On the plane for Philly tomorrow, sitting in meps I've had to help two other people cram for the test. Know your general orders so you and your ship-mates don't drag behind.
I don't know how I got recommended this video but it is excellent stuff. Wish I had something like it when I joined. I came in January 08 still active duty but TH-cam wasn't as big as it is now so it's nice the new recruits can find stuff like this. Good job!
My son just arrived last Monday. I went through OCS so I don't know how enlisted boot is but I know that it's difficult, just under the USMC. Good luck bro!
Towards the end of basic training, you will get to choose your top picks on a list, but put your number one pick as number one. In the comments, you must write why you desire that specific location. The more convincing you can sound to the detailer, the better! Always write in the comments when choosing billets.
@@Henry_Fargo can you bring a married CGMan to the channel to talk about their life? how often do they be apart from their wife, what are the chances of going underway and how is their routine like. thanks bro!
@@antoniofonseca1891 Depends on the Rate they choose. Out of boot camp its a crap shoot could be sent to a boat right away etc. Some jobs get underway less. I am an IT been in 16 years and haven't been underway once. Chances are my next/final billet I will be underway but IT sea time is not required to advance. Some jobs it is required. Again the routine depends on the rate and the cutter type. Also the higher ranking they go the more free time they generally have. (not always true as they do get more responsibility)
Nope. Everything you can study for is in the helmsman book. Once you get there, they will give you a pocketbook with more required knowledge, but you won't get it until then.
Am leaving for BC December 3rd. Going active duty. Do you know if your first duty station is for the full four years? Or are you at a duty station til A school and then have to relocate to another station once you graduate A school?
You will only be attached to your first duty station until you get the order to A School. At Apprenticeship school, you will get orders to your permanent station:) Good luck in boot camp!
@Henry_Fargo thank you for the reply..another question I had, once you're done with your active duty contract, is it possible to switch over to the reserves and continue working the 20 years til retirement?
@@favianrodriguez2813 Yeah, you can, but it will take longer to retire. The reserve years don't count the same as active duty. It takes about double the time to retire as a reserve, but some people do it:)
@Henry_Fargo gotcha, I'll do more research about that..I was thinking about going the Gunners Mate route because it's a rate that works both for active and reserves. What are your thoughts on the GM rating? Is it a fun rating or a boring one?
Mmmmm, I would say "Watch coordinator" or "Historian." Some do enjoy being Yeoman, but you have to be confident and squared away. And nine out of ten, you will get smoked and sweated regardless, lol. Good luck 🍀
@@Henry_Fargo thank you! do you remember how to respond to shoulder insignia/collar devices? Like how would I answer "what is the collar device for a o-7?
Good luck! I just graduated on the 30th, and the best thing i can tell ya, is to take it one day at a time. Just make it to the next meal. The days are going to feel like years, but the weeks will fly like minutes.
I ship october 8th and can manage around 18 pushups, i can do the mile and a half run in 12:20, and still working on getting 38 sit-ups in a minute, which im able to do, just not in a minute. If by any chance I don’t meet those requirements when i ship, will i get sent home if i don’t meet said requirements on the first test?
You should be okay; they will put you in a program to help you pass the fitness test. But you won't graduate till you pass, so train hard so you don't have that extra stress!🍀

Loved the shoulders portion. Hold something above your head for as long as you can. Can be something as simple as a water bottle...

Where do you get the book from?
If you go into any recruiting office, they have them.
Where can I get the helmsmen book
You should be able to ask someone for it when you go into a recruiting office. Have you reached out to a recruiter?
Would you recommend volunteering for a job, if so which ones, to get out of smoking haha
