    For the record, MHQ is Mobile Headquarters, and is used if using the optional Battlefield Intelligence rules, which basically allows forces with an adequate number of tactical computers(MHQ) to get an initiative bonus.

    Nice battle report! For indirect fire, it looked like the Longbow had line of sight to the Highlander so IF would not apply, it would just be a regular shot with partial cover. Additionally, unless you have a particular SPA, using IF requires a spotter to designate the target. There's a +1 modifier for using IF, and if the spotter also makes an attack an additional +1 applies to their attack roll for spotting in the same turn. Variable damage should definitely apply.
    Our group does not use variable damage for melee attacks. That's usually the advantage of using melee over just shooting when you're in melee range, as you get a guaranteed amount of damage on a single hit.
