Goldtop and Ashes - 1954 Gibson Les Paul

  • Today we meet John, Pam, and a beautiful 1954 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop that John was given by his dad years ago - a guitar he grew up watching his dad play. A couple of weeks ago John and Pam had a fire on their property causing tremendous damage, with both of them thankfully unharmed. Though the guitar was safe in the main house, it was a close enough call that they decided it was time to find a new home for it, and contacted Emerald City Guitars to help find that new home.

    A good clean-up, electrical contact cleaner and maybe scrape/bend the jack socket on the Guitar and a new cable . The sound is just incredible , that amp was made to go with a P90 Les Paul. Top marks to the Mrs for teaching Hubby to play!!

    This reminds me of my journey to Eddie's house. We were near each other at a bar drinking draught beer and tomato juice. We started chatting and music came up. He said he had a guitar he might want to sell. We finished our beers and went to Eddie's house. From under the bed, he slid the tweed case. Blonde 1959 Fender telecaster with slab rosewood fingerboard and clay dots. Original strap, cord and his sales slip from January 1960. Then he went to the closet and pulled out a Fender Vibrolux with the original slipcover. This was in the mid 1980s. I returned the following day and bought the pair.

    Fantastic video Jay & Trevor! So good to see you both on the big screen (well on my computer screen at least...). Heart tugging story of their family's loss to the fire but a heartwarming story of their musical history with his father and their own story as well. Amy and I were in Lynden last Saturday ourselves visiting David and his wife Alexis, Whatcom county is beautiful indeed. As is the '54 Goldtop you share with us here! I especially love the vertical checking lines and the yellowed trapezoid markers, so sweet! This video is super, please give kudos to your camera person and as always the very best to you both. Peace to you and yours, Scott

    I absolutely love this! All too often the stories about the people are lost and that's what makes these instruments truly special is learning about where they've been and appreciating their history.... then when you pick it up you realize how insignificant you are... how brief life can be... and that one day someone else might be playing that guitar, thinking about you after your long gone... I dunno what that experience is exactly, but I'm brazen enough to say what whatever that is..... I think that's the whole point.

    I found this video deeply saddening. I wonder if these guys had insurance or, if they did, whether they expected that the insurance would not cover them. It otherwise seems very premature to sell such a treasure only a week after the fire. Perhaps they are really desperate for the money and are totally out of pocket. The website shows the guitar and amp already discounted and priced lower than I’d expect so maybe they just need money, even if it means taking less than they should for the guitar.

      @badtweed2087 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not going to be worth more once you modify any part of it. However, if you convert a 52 trapeze type to a 59 spec then you would have a very nice playing and sounding ax that would be as close to a real 59 if done properly with the neck angle reset. A 52 conversion done right can be worth a good amount but usually less than it being left along.
