This video shows you how to install a new serpentine belt on your 2011-2019 Ford Fiesta. The serpentine belt delivers engine power to a number of your vehicle's critical accessories, like the alternator and water pump. Over time, the rubber belt can harden or crack and begin to slip or break. It's best to replace your serpentine belt at regular intervals.
This process should be similar on the following vehicles:
    2011 Ford Fiesta
    2012 Ford Fiesta
    2013 Ford Fiesta
    2014 Ford Fiesta
    2015 Ford Fiesta
    2016 Ford Fiesta
    2017 Ford Fiesta
    2018 Ford Fiesta
    2019 Ford Fiesta

Ugh it doesn’t have a tensioner? FML

Ya know, I always appreciate people who do videos on how to do stuff. So thank you for taking the time for this.
With that said, my question is.
What if someone were changing the alternator out. The belt is good and your only option is to cut the belt off.
Here is my suggestion/revision. Using a large screwdriver, "guide" the belt off while turning the crank as you showed for installing the belt. This way the belt can be reused when finished.

Why on earth would you not design it with a belt tensioner?!?!? God dang it Ford

Perfect guide, managed to do this in the gas station parking lot, stretch belt tool made this an easy job. In a hurry racing against some rain I learned to be *patient* when putting it on and do little turns while pushing the belt onto the smooth pulley with the screwdriver as you showed. Thank you!!

Great video, I followed these steps today and I appreciate how concise and clear this was. After 2 trips to parts stores (the rented tool wasn't working out for me) I bought the Lisle 59370 Stretch Belt Remover / Installer in the video and we got it figured out (I didn't know about the magnets, super handy feature). A couple notes for anyone in the future watching this:
0:13 You can also used a slotted/flathead screwdriver on these, T27 works super well but if you're in a bind you don't need it
0:43 The Lisle 59370 has a remover portion of the tool, if you have a good belt that you want to reuse you don't have to cut it. If it's due for replacement though either by age or mileage regardless of how it looks just replace it anyway
But yeah, I'm warning my friends who have these, change the belt before it breaks! Not a fun install, certainly not the worst but I'd preferred not to have done it in a parking lot :P

Thanks for this. I didn't have that nifty tool, so I used my hand. Turning the "correct", clockwise direction that you demonstrated, whenever the belt popped on the crank it popped off the rounded (?!) idler. When I turned counterclockwise, I could get the belt on everything at the same time. Then I turned clockwise to get all the ribs seated in all the slots. Be careful when using your hand that you don't get a finger pinched between the belt and the compressor pulley!
I didn't know what was wrong with the car initially, and I drove it enough to learn that the only reason you *have* to have this belt is to drive the alternator. If your battery is charged enough, you can probably drive a couple of miles. Eventually the transmission stops shifting correctly or the engine shuts itself off.

I just did the thermostat on my 2015 Fiesta ST. 1.6 ecoboost. I found a tension pulley for the belt just back and up front the crank pulley. Used a wrench and easy peasy.

Thanks for the video. I was getting frustrated with the belt slipping off of the water pump pulley, then saw you pushing it back with a screwdriver every 1/8th turn or so on the crank.

Thanks! Took the guesswork out of it, changing the belt wasn’t as hard as I thought, and O’Reillys had the stretch belt install tool

The serpentine belt wants to walk off of the water pump pulley so you have to continually work it back over the pulley or it will pop off

Hey if you want to reuse the belt I took out too two bolts of alternator and loosened the bottom one. Took a pry bar and pushed it towards the bumper. Gives u enough slack to pull it off. And put it back

I have the same part belt same car and bought the same tool, the belt in no way shape or form will stretch to fit over this. I tried heating up the belt it's really not even close. Not sure why it's called "stretch to fit" it does not stretch. Maybe I'll try a stretchier after market belt?

I ended up using a short flat head screwdriver on the alternator pulley from above. Go with the screwdriver from the back side going over the top towards the front of the car (that’s the direction the engine runs) Try to get it started and then you can keep trying to rotate the engine by pulling on the belt. You’ll definitely damage the pulley and the belt some. I hosed mine down with belt dressing and crossed my fingers (both hands).
Shame on these engineers for creating a situation that causes more breaks and then making it impossible to repair…

So do you need to re time the crank? You said you turned it five times and your dot was not TDC I’m confused 😐

    • @akaadamrg
      @akaadamrg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

This belt does not control the cams (so will not effect timing). No worries there.

    • @jordancapps9521
      @jordancapps9521 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Everything still moves in time, and the sensors will tell it where it is in the firing cycle at start up. The computer checks the cam and crank positions, for the ignition timing, on every start.

Is that belt also called the drive belt?

  • @chewie-pv6ex

As cool as it is to see the tool designed to do this....i cut the belt off, fit the new one on as best you can over all the pulleys, and zipetie the bit that doesnt fit to the crank pulley (just enough to hold it in place, i do like 2, maybe 3). Now, turn your key and let the zipties and crank pull the belt on, the ties will break before your belt. If you want, unplug the spark plugs before turning your key to prevent a full start. Done in 10 minutes or less.

How'd you get the guide to stay in place?

  • @josedejesuszarzoza4809

Would not recommend doing by yourself alone.
If you decide to say F it, I'll do it myself. HAVE TWO PAIR OF HANDS READY TO WORK ON THIS REPLACEMENT. I couldn't do it myself, had to call in a favor. It definitely helps to have a wrench with a swivel AND the "engine belt guide" peice of metal.
    Engine belt guide
    1/2 18 mm socket piece
    A swiveled wrench
    Flat head
    The engine belt
If you don't have any of these tools, be prepared to spend at least 120 smackaroos. F this car.

this happened to my belt a slight piece came off the side and I cut it off. Its not as wide as it was but it still seems to be running. Anyone know if this is an emergency to fix right away or if I could drive a few days with it in this state? Also if not wondering how much it would cost to have it replaced.
