  • This is a stretch-to-fit belt. Meaning there is no tensioner to keep belt tight. Must be "walked" on/off And yes I did slipped with my pry bar and hit my own head. Edited that part out.

    Thanks for your tutorial which I found so much easier to do than using the Ford "proper" tools, lol. My son and I took five minutes to get the old belt off his car once I got a little help from him (a spare pair of hands to hold the belt in place while I picked up my pry bar) ten minutes to refit the new one in situ. I didn't have the resources to pre heat the belt before fitting unfortunately but we managed. Thank you very much.

    This is the number 1 video to watch... the others saying cut the belt off... bot a good idea. Many parts suppliers give you a way larger belt. I ended up cutting the belt and to find out my replacement was the wrong size loosing a day of work due to that mistake... the belt is only 40.8 inch long.

    Very helpful video. I would like to add that you will want to use a ratchet that has a 12 inch or longer handle on it. After each small turn, you will want to adjust the belt to make sure it doesn't slip off. Take your time. The overall job ran me about 45 mins and only cost $55 for the belt. I am a handy guy but not a mechanic at all. Thanks again for the Video.

      Thanks for the vid ..i ended up starting the belt on top of the bottom pulley and going counter clockwise as it kept slipping off. On a side note there is no reason to design this engine this way when all they need is to make the alternator swing out like we have for over 50 years. This system is is sheer stupidity of a design or even an afterthought of the engineer. So much so i feel like this car is from the future and will probably run on brawndo because it had what plants crave. Its that bad of a design

    Here's another way of fitting the water pump stretch belt on a Ford Fiesta or Focus without using specialist tools.
    First remove 3 of the 4 water pump bolts. Then loosen the last bolt just enough so the pulley can be twisted off the water pump central locator . Fit the new stretch belt onto all the pulleys leaving the water pump pulley til last. If the belt seems too small to go onto the water pump pulley turn the pulley so it pivot on the remaining bolt until the belt goes on (if at this point the belt will still not go onto the water pump pulley check it's fitted correctly onto the other pulleys or check the belt is the correct size).
    With the belt fitted onto all the pulleys turn the water pump pulley until the position of the remaining bolt is at 1 o'clock. Now first make sure you have a 10mm spanner within reaching distance, then using a pry bar or long screw driver lever the water pump pulley using the crank pulley as a rest until it twists back onto the water pump central locator now tighten the one water pump pulley bolt. If the pulley's on correctly the 3 removed bolts will screw back in easily.
    Hope this helps. It did for me and was a lot less stressful than even refitting the belt with the correct tools.

    • @Steve4x4
      @Steve4x4  ปีที่แล้ว

      "Won't start" is a general and vague description. I mean no disrespect with what I have typed here. But trying to put it in perspective is all.
      And with me not there seeing what you did I can't answer your question.
      For an engine to crank, and then run. It must have a sufficiently charged battery to enable the starter to crank the engine over at enough rpm. Then the engine computer must see signals/ information from various sensors. At the same time the fuel pump must be operating and supply enough fuel both in volume and pressure to the fuel injectors. The computer can then command the ignition coils to generate spark to the spark plugs, and command the fuel injectors to open just long enough to allow fuel to mix with air.
      All that has to happen in one second of time at the right order for combustion to occur. NONE... NONE of that is related to a serpentine belt.
      So if any ONE of the above failed the engine wont start.
      If the engine ran before you did anything I would retrace your work. That's the best I can answer your question. It's not helpful I know. But that all I can do.
