  • In this video I show you a quick and easy way to remove and install a stretch belt. It involves using a stretch belt removal and installer tool linked below.
    Stretch belts are becoming more and more common on automobiles. These are belts that do not require a tensioner to make them tight as they have to stretch over the pulleys that they run. In many cases using a special tool to assist in installing these belts can make life a bit more easy.
    Note: Vehicle's engine should not be running. Vehicle should be placed into park with the parking brake applied and vehicle should be on a flat surface before performing repairs.
    ***Note: The vehicle featured in the video is equipped with an automatic transmission. If your vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission it will be necessary to place the transmission into neutral in order to rotate the crankshaft as shown in the video. Warning: Be sure that the parking brake is applied and that the wheels are chocked when the vehicle is in neutral.

    As an FYI, when your stretch belt is on the back/inside part of the pulley, this tool is useless.

    Never knew they came up with something different than belt tensioner. When did they start doing this?

    Can you use this to get a normal serp belt to go on if it's being stubborn/ the tensioner doesn't allow much room for movement?

    • @BarboursAutoHelp
      @BarboursAutoHelp  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't use it for a regular belt. They are not designed to stretch like stretch belts are..

    So how does this tool work if the belt is riding on the inner most crankshaft pulley?

    • @BarboursAutoHelp

      It doesn't. Most likely zip ties will be needed.

      @@BarboursAutoHelp I think it’s an awesome tool? Especially when I have to get to my tensioning screw, on my Chrysler Concorde LXI? Pain in the ass! Absolutely no room to get a wrench, in there? I love it!

    • @BarboursAutoHelp
      @BarboursAutoHelp  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just to be clear. The belt is designed to stretch. It's a belt that is made differently than your standard belt. It would not be appropriate to use this tool on a regular serpentine belt.

    Okay to use on V belts for AC and alternator?
    Replacing alternator belt 84 Alfa spider can lead to removing radiator!

    • @BarboursAutoHelp
      @BarboursAutoHelp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This tool is made to be used specifically with "stretch belts". Unless the belt is a stretch belt then I'd say no. I'm not aware of any "V" style that are "stretch belts". It's my understanding that stretch belts have only been around for a decade...ish....

  • @racyfreeman317

    Wouldn't a screwdriver or something similar do the same job?

    • @BarboursAutoHelp
      @BarboursAutoHelp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be done. But it's hard to do without damaging the belt or a pulley. The tool makes it a lot easier and helps to do a better job. But, heck, even zip ties work too.
