- President M. Russell Ballard, acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023. He was 95.
This special memorial video, titled “A Loving Farewell,” features Church News interviews with President Ballard from recent years.
“It all comes back down, in my judgment, to an unwavering, through and through, belief that Jesus is the Christ, that He is the Savior, Redeemer of the World, and that this is His Church and that He is watching over it,” testified President Ballard. “So He does live. And I know that.”

Man, it really hits home: thinking about how much of a spiritual anchor Elder Ballard has been since my youth, as young missionary years ago, and in the years since. I can easily think of several of his talks that have meant so much to me and others, and also recall his voice giving them. He will be missed!

As a child I would look through the christmas cards every december and one day I noticed one of them was from the Ballard family. I asked my mom why one of the apostles and his children and grandchildren where on this card and why they would send it to us of all people. My mother then told me that before she was married she had babysat some of the grandchildren and their family then sent us a christmas card every year after that. That impressed me that they would remember my mom so many years latter. I made more of an effort to listen in general conference to what Elder Ballard and other speakers had to say which was hard for me at such a young age, but I wanted to hear what he had to say since his children had gone to the effort of sending a card out to us each year and it made me curious. Thank you!

Russell and Barbara's romance was so beautiful. You could tell how smitten he was every time he talked about her or was with her. After she died his love for her just continued to grow. To the Ballard family, I say "God bless you" and thank you so much for sharing this wonderful man with the rest of the world.

A very powerful testimony of a Living Apostle of Jesus Christ about tha Savior Jesus Christ and His Grandfather Ballard who became an Apostle and now Him. Talking about His wife Barbara and His children and grandchildren that soon he will with Her. We are grateful for His powerful testimony of Jesus Christ and that families can be together forever.

Although I dont agree with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints beliefs. I like how these 15 men love on one another. When one of the 12 was struggling to stand at the podium 2 of these men stood up there with the brother so he could finish his speech. RIP Mr. Ballard
The humility and testimony of the leadership inspires me and encourages me to look forward with gratitude no matter the trials and fears life brings. That I have been lead to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by the Holy Spirit has been my life's greatest joy.
What a inspired man, a good example of a apostle and dedicated to God. I would like to understand and see the things as he did one day . I thank him and all of the Lord's services in our behalf. In teaching us the Lord Gospel. We Love you Elder Ballard!
Elder Ballard visited our ward once and came to our deacon’s quorum meeting. That was 36 years ago. I don’t remember what he said but I’ve always thought about it since how he cared enough about us to visit and talk with us. I’ve never forgotten it.
What a great tribute to a great man. He will be missed. And what a wonderful testimony he has of the gospel and best of all his testimony of Jesus Christ is pure and true.

Another great one bites the dust so to speak: Everytime we lose a great man, we want to keep him alive a bit longer, by watching his video talks, etc we don't want to let them go, but their gone and it really feels fantastic that we kind of knew them through general conferences every six months for years and years, then they leave us! Don't we all get a thrill of his beautiful ✨️ talks and hearing about his exploits and his journey! Thank you brother Ballard!

What a beautiful farewell tribute! I am thankful for Elder Ballard's words of wisdom and unwavering testimony throughout the years.
I loved President Ballard's counsel on how to lead in a way that puts the family first. He was my resource when I was a "young" young women's president, struggling to balance that calling and being a newer mom myself. I have leaned on that counsel repeatedly in my callings in the church. He really brought home that the church is the scaffolding on the family and not the other way around.
I am daily amazed that l, somehow, was blessed to be tracked out by missionaries who taught me about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I love Him, and l love the Prophet Joseph Smith. Each day it dawns on me that l am incredibly blessed to be a part of this marvelous work and wonder.
We will miss you Elder Ballard but l am thrilled for you as you are reunited with Barbara and all who have gone before you.
Whenever he came to speak to us at BYU he always referred to himself as “Grandpa Ballard”! ❤️ It feels crazy to lose another one of what feels like the old guard of the apostles. So happy for him to be reunited with his wife and be having that talk with his own Grandpa Ballard!

I remember shaking his hand on my mission, I was really struggling, it was obvious, but he still shook my hand looked me in the eyes and said "good luck elder", lol

There is always someone who inspires us since my youth Elder Ballard has been a light and a great inspiration, thanks to our beloved Heavenly Father who has allowed his apostles and prophets to guide us, so long Elder Ballard, you have already reached your beloved wife and companion for eternities.
One of my favorite talks that have impacted us as a family is Family Councils. This has been life changing for us as we’ve implemented this in our family. You will be missed!:)

My wife and I had the opportunity of taken some pictures with President Ballard during a stake general conference in Switzerland couple of years ago.

Such an exemplary life! ❤In September I finished his biography, "Anxiously Engaged." It was SO inspiring! It reminded me of goals I had while I was at BYU that I lost sight of. I still live a good life but after reading his book I was on fire, remembering my goals and wanting to be better. Elder Ballard, you have made such a remarkable mark on millions of people.❤
