Interesting that you can clearly see the difference in color between the steel barrel and cylinder vs the aluminum frame at 2:57 My model 37 made pre 1962 has colors that match almost exactly.
Interesting. Do you know if your model 37 has steel cylinder or alloy? I’m not sure about the J frames, but there are a few rare S&W model 12 airweights that had alloy cylinder in early production. I’m not sure about the barrel. They quickly changed to steel after experiencing failure due to cracking. Just a thought.
@@HillbillyNitroUSA Steel cylinder, it's magnetic. The very rare (and very valuable) aluminum cylinder models were marked 'air crewman' or something like that, were made for the Air Force, and almost all of them were recalled and destroyed or rebuilt with steel cylinders.
Thanks brother! 👍🏻 Yep, it’s definitely a great little kit gun. They’re out there, just keep an eye out in your local pawnshops/ gun shops. Local online firearm sites are great as well because you can let people know what you are looking for. Good luck on your search! 👍🏻💪🏻👊🏻
That is absolutely beautiful. I have a 3" model 36 that is a bit worse for the wear, but it is still very nice. I like these in a square butt better, but they all are sweet shooters. The J frame is probably my all time favorite gun.
I have the same Model 36 with the 3" bull barrel which I bought in 1992. Still in very good condition and my favorite bedroom gun. I also have the original box and manual. Nice video.
mozzberg Awesome! Im glad to hear that.👍 Yea, there's just something about the older Smith's that I love. I really like the craftsmanship that went into making them back in the day. It was a lot more hands on and I personally think they are better than what's being manufactured today.
@@HillbillyNitroUSA I have the same gun! But VB mine is a 36-1,I want to trade for a snub-nose!! Anybody has a snub-nose let VB me know! 832-630-9080 Thank you.
Nice Model 37. My EDC is a Model 36 from 1971. I found it at a local gun shop in what looked like unfired condition. I carry it daily and it’s a sweet shooter. Enjoy your Model 37.
Stephen Kohnle Thank you! 🖒 I bet your model 36 is a real dandy! I'm planning on finding a vintage model 36 some time in the near future. I can definitely see it going in to my EDC rotation. Thanks for the comment!
@@HillbillyNitroUSA I have a 36-1 I will trade you!! It's a 3in just like the one in the video! Question? How do I get my speedloader to work with out getting stuck on the gun?? Shave something down VB on the gun??
Thanks brother! I really appreciate it. Yes, I love the older vintage Smith’s! They are true works of art in my opinion. A lot of people turn their nose to them, but folks like us get it and see the beauty in the classic revolvers. 👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻
Buy the Smith & Wesson if available there. I have the Model 36, same gun in the video but with a heavier steel frame and matte black custom finish. This is California saying hello to Poland.. Nice video.
Looks like a terrific gun to use in self defense. Easy carryable too. Let me run this by you. Years ago I carried a gun. I was gonna use it that night too, Lord knows I had reason. If ever there was a case of Just Cause and Utmost Provocation, that night was it! The lowlife I was supposed to meet that night who attacked me days before never showed up. I was actually disappointed as can be. Then I realized years later what was I going to do if I ever got caught and all fingers were pointed at me for doing something like that. I was probably going to go to jail the rest of my damn life. But as God is my witness I would have used it that night believe me. People always go off about how bad guns are and we should never have them in our lives ever. But I tell you people, guns are not the reason why people are evil. It is your god-given right to have and carry and use a gun whenever you are in a situation where there is no peaceful way out of it and there is no other way to leave.
Man is that sweet! I love a 3 inch barrel on my most revolvers, it just feels good! I have a 1975 Rossi double action .22 lr that is pretty much a copy of this mdl 37. You can't beat that bluing on Smith revolvers.
That's a great way to get into revolvers! I have 2 Mod. 36's myself, both snub, one nickel, one blued and both are square butt. I highly recommend trying the square butt on either a snub or 3 inch, they fit my hand so much better than the round butt. The difference is crazy. Glad to see you have the original style stocks on it. They look terrible when people put rubber grips on them. It ruins the classic classiness of the gun.
Thanks man! Yea, totally agree! I have my eye out for a nickel J frame. I have since scored a square butt model 36. If you get a chance, check out my latest S&W model 12-2 video from a few days ago. I compared the two in the video.
That means is would be a newer production than my no dash in this video. I’m guessing that would be in the 1980’s but im not 100% sure. You should be able to google it and find out.
Really beautiful little revolver. The whole layout on the table is very pleasing to the eye. Those vintage Smith boxes were pretty handsome in their own right. The hammer to my eyes looks like someone may have taken a pair of pliers and tried to bend it upwards, and possibly broke it in doing so. I've seen a lot of custom jobs were guys turn the hammer spurs up. The 3 inch barrel is a really fine configuration for the J frame. I like the square butt ones myself. What are the knife models you showed in the video? They look like old Case knives to me. Also, the Silvertip rounds I believe go back into the 80's, possibly even 70s. The FBI offered Winchester silver tip, I believe 145gr, .357 ammunition as optional carry for their M13 K frames, though it was not standard issue (that was the 158gr .38 +P LSWCHP).
Happy 2019!! Very nice video!!! Great revolver in perfect condition. I'm a proud owner of a pair of SW 36: one of them with heavy barrel. Please.. could you tell me which is the exact weight of that precious SW 37 3 inch? Thanks a lot
Thank you! Very nice to hear about your model 36's.👍 Yea, I love these older S&W J frames. A lot of history and they just don't make them like they used too. I just weighed the model 37 for you. It's 15.834 oz / 448.8 grams. (unloaded)
@@HillbillyNitroUSAThanks a lot! And.... what a feather weight for such mix of power, beauty and precision! I'll put a SW 37 3" as my future next gun, not only for display. In my opinion and test, there's no bulky difference between 2" or 3" but there's a real better ballistic performance. And... what a jewel! Thanks again. Huges from Madrid (Spain)
I don't think Teddy Roosevelt had one of them, he died in 1919. Maybe you're thinking of Eisenhower. Shouldn't dry fire them, if something goes wrong you may break the firing pin.
Could be..? Or I can give you a lesson on tagging a TH-cam video. You save your last couple of tags for common spelling errors. Then your device remembers them. That = typos... 🤫 It gets better! Oh, and people will click just because a word is misspelled and then people like you comment about it. Clicks + comments = engagement = win/win 🤷🏻♂️💸

Interesting. My wife has a line of family members in the Air Force. I’ll have to do another Uncle Deans video talking to him about that. 👍🏼😎
Inherited the exact same gun from my Dad last year.
