@@lwmson Are you kidding? He won Emmy's and Grammies before 1976. He had 4 concert films before 1976. He had starred in several other movies in the early 1970s.
@@keepsake327 I never said that he wasn't successful, and yes he did win Grammies for three of his albums. He did appear in numerous movies during the early 70's, but they were all blackxpliotation films. However, he didn't start making concert films until 1979. But he was still considered an underground comic largely because of his constant and intense profanity, which made him a danger for prime-time TV and it's censors. When he hosted SNL in 1977, he created problems for TV censors, as well as the time when he hosted the Academy Awards. That's why his TV show that aired in 1977 was short-lived. It required too much censorship, and Pryor was unwilling to modify or tone down his material for TV. It really wasn't until the 80's that he became a mainstream comic. By then he had earned a hall pass for his profane material, because of the enormous success and appeal he created with it over the years.
See, that’s what I was asking myself, too. Maybe Rickles jokes would be misunderstood by Ali, since he always fought against the struggle the blacks in America went through
Im sorry but I miss everything about the old days. Sports was better, tv was better, movies were better and all of the divisive bitterness of todays sterilized PC culture sucks
Love how Floyd was laughing so hard through the whole show, nobody had more fun. Great show thanks.

I'm sort of surprised that Richard Pryor isn't/wasn't there to roast Ali.
Richard Pryor be everything
He probably didn’t wanna go
He was just as popular as Ali was
I wish he did come instead of Georgia
This was in 1976 and although Richard had success in underground comedy, he had not quite yet become that popular in the mainstream.
