I'm black, and I approve. He was a legend. No one was safe, and the reality is that he wasn't attacking people - he was attacking stereotypes. People could laugh at themselves back then and move on together. Now, people are more polite, but walking on eggshells and segregating ourselves. We ended segregation only to be more segregated. What makes Don Rickles great is that he ripped EVERYONE a new one, but was sincere and complimentary immediately afterward. I love his comedy, a true legend.

Me too! I saw him 6 months prior to his passing. He was so funny and so sharp minded. I blew him a kiss at the end of the show and he gave me a great big smile. The man seated next to me said he and his wife met him that night getting out of a car.Don was very friendly to the both of them.He really was a nice guy like the song he sang that night."I'm a nice guy".I really miss him!

I was at one of his final shows in Vegas before he passed. Got lucky and snuck into the front row seat that was empty and he ended up picking on me shortly after the show started... honor of a lifetime, sadly many in my generation don’t know who he is!

A class act and hilarious. One of the greatest comedians to ever live. Back when people could laugh at stereotypes about one another without taking it as an act of hatred. When people love one another they can poke fun without it being personal. There's not much love left in the world.

They knew that they could laugh at each other and had so much respect for one another. Sure some of the jokes hit below the belt and may have some racist tone, but everyone there knew it was just jokes that were in good humor. No one was trying to be offensive against the others. Just about every nationality is up there and all are laughing. Everyone love and respect Don Rickles. Everyone thought Abe Vegoda was dead many, many times. He finally passed this year. Makes me want to watch episodes of Barney Miller. The show was so funny.
And the comedy of this era makes you laugh as hard 50 years later...as it did those on the night it was recorded. That's a testimony to some solid comedy.

Its great to see people laughing, joking and having fun together as one! There was love in that room! Don was a fun loving kind of guy who loved to make people laugh and wouldn't do anything to hurt anyone! But today everyone seems like they got there guard up against eachother! People, places and things, things that have happened through out the years from people who don't know how to think or act! Has caused racism to fluctuate! My Dad used to let my brothers and I stay up and watch the Roasts. Rickles and Foster Brooks were his favorites. You could never make this show today.

It's GREAT to see talent... and, to me, a roast has always been the best platform.
When Don Rickles was gonna roast someone - everyone who showed up was getting it too !!!
Don was such a funny guy a Great person and loved by everyone.
Its great to see people laughing, joking and having fun together as one! There was love in that room! Don was a fun loving kind of guy who loved to make people laugh and wouldn't do anything to hurt anyone! But today everyone seems like they got there guard up against eachother! People, places and things, things that have happened through out the years from people who don't know how to think or act! Has caused racism to fluctuate! If the whole world had the kind of people that were in that room that night! The world would be an amasing place to be! We can still make life amasing but we have to adjust our own thinking and keep it dialed in, we cant change any one elses thinking. We have to accept the negative and be grateful for the positive! We choose how are own lives our and learn to live with and love the broken people that just dont know! God's are leader and he sees the defiant ones who want to control everything through pride, ego, evil, greed and selfishness! And nobody is getting away with anything!

What happened to us? It's really sad, I'm an old school brotha, I miss these guys and how they were with each other. We're living in a world where we can't laugh at ourselves or poke fun at each other like we used too. I don't think I ever laughed as hard as I did at RDJ in Tropic Thunder, we all need to lighten up.
I was in high school in the early to mid 1970's and I watched Sanford and Son,All in the Family,the Flip Wilson Show and Barney Miller and all kinds of jokes were thrown around and yet nobody talked about cancelling anyone, we just laughed

When no one is safe, everyone can laugh. With Don, no one was safe, and as always, he ended with some honest love. People forget that. It's what is missing in today's comedy, not the humor, but the love.
It was odd to see his routine toward the end of his life, cause he still maintained his style of comedy...though in a world of spineless amoebas. The awkward part was me still keeling over in tears while seeing others not sure if they should laugh.

Rickles is and forever will be the best roaster in my opinion. He's a pro! I could watch this 1000 times and still laugh. His way of humor is an example of pure positive comedy! Great roast!

Those were all legends sitting there!! The one roast that was the best was when Dean Martin was holding Sammy Davis Jr and said I would like to thank the NAACP for this award that was hysterical.
