    Cool video, I wish I could have done better with my C-rats back in the day, we tried to get rid of all the shit, but it was still bulky. This is helpful to hikers and campers, grunt tested and approved. Thanks as always brother!

    I have less than pleasant memories of MREs. I served when they first switched over to them. Back in the early 80s I had canned C Rations from WWII and Korea that were better than the early MREs by a long way. I had a friend recently give me one of the new ones. It was a lot better than back in the day. I might invest in a case. I prefer to heat over the coals of a fire or an alcohol stove. If I want hot food. Like a 20 degree day in the bush hot food is a blessing

    i recommend keeping the creamer/whiter because ive heard how some sas blokes survived off their creamers for a week when they had no mres left

      +Fantastic Apricots you can do what you want. Im showing you what we did. We carry lots of weight/ out in the field for long periods of time. Ounces = lbs and lbs = pain. We carry a lot more life sustaining equipment and don't fret about a sugar packet/creamer or two.

      That's perfectly fine, weight is a killer. Search up 'SAS - Survival Secrets: Behind Enemy Lines Scenario 1 [Full Episode]' and skip to 7:10. No doubt an interesting documentary to watch as well! Keep up the good work bro!

      I remember that. The way they field strip is to redistribute everything so it carries better. From memory, it was the recon patrol at Goose Green (Falklands) that ate the creamer. It should tell you something that the creamer was the last thing left. But, those SAS guys were on a patrol lasting weeks and on cold rations. For an outting of a few days, I like the way Black Scout's video shows MRE field stripping because I could keep track of it easier. Incidentally, my survival ration has a packet of milk biscuits because they're cheap, store well and have good energy density.

      Burn that creamer with a lighter just long enough not to set it aflame. Peel and eat dat ranger cookie.

    No need to toss the coffee creamer packet. Us US Army Infantry guys made Ranger cookies with the sugar and creamer packets. Mix the sugar and creamer together in about a 3"x1½" piece of aluminum foil. Back in my days the creamer packet was lined with aluminum foil so we mixed the sugar in with the creamer then folded the opening to seal the packet. The creamer packets are currently lined with plastic so you need to make a cooking packet with aluminum foil about the size of the creamer packet.
    Cook over a fire about a minute or so. The sugar and creamer melt. Will harden as it cools down. It's more like a toffee candy than a cookie.
    I worked in the heavy mortar teams so we had vehicles to move that heavy mortar & shells, M-30 (four-deuce). Didn't have to carry stuff in a rucksack so much like you recon guys.

    Ok, question, if you're putting this in bob or get home, etc. does stripping affect the life of the meal? Will it decrease the life of the components enough to worry about? I know about food rotation.

    I'm thinking of switching over to mre's instead of freeze dry. I like the weight of freeze dry but eating on the go is me. I do that everyday at work because time is money doing what I do. in a bug out or get home situation it's the same for me. I went with the tac bars in my b.o.b

    I always wondered how you guys were able to carry a substantial amount of food that you needed and all your gear/tools. And how preppers packed all those meals in their bag(s). Glad you made this...seems like common sense really hehe..too bad the Military hasn't took note of this yet to cut down on waste. Anyhow good info man, thanks!

      No one correct answer: think about your own situation. I would stay at home until home became compromised. Good shelter, more gear, good community (has come together in previous emergencies), more food storage, elderly parent at home, stable government with proven good emergency response (civil defence), local culture will delay NOLA/Katrina violence and my outdoor skills aren't _yet_ up to wilderness living. I'm not expecting an extended SHTF/permanent collapse scenario. #ymmv

    • @PatOutdoorify
      @PatOutdoorify 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      because non military people design and order those things. even in the military you have desk warriors.

    • @eturnerx
      @eturnerx 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess because: people are going to field strip the MRE anyway and it's harder/slower to produce a varied menu in tight packaging. If MREs were only about nutrition then you'd probably get a brick of lifeboat ration. But, morale is an important part of the MRE too.
