    You should NEVER use that plastic spacer with a disk, its only to be used when no disk is installed (rim brakes) it is to prevent damage to the coating on the hub from the bolts, and to stop the bolts from going too deep in to the hub

    Great info. I did a DIY conversation to an old junk bike and love it. I'm with you on the PAS and at first I disconnected it but later I wired a couple of micro switches so I can switch on the speed limiter and turn on the PAS and it's just right when I want to get more exercise and pedal at a comfortable speed of about 12mph, or I can turn off the limiter and the PAS for just tooling around town on it doing errands. Mine is a front wheel hub so a little nose heavy 🙄. Next time I'll use a back wheel hub with a cassette like you do 👍. 10ah batt gets me about 16-20 miles if I'm conservative so I have a 20ah coming in the mail to be the main battery, and an A/B switch so I can throw this current one on the back rack and have it as a secondary to run longer trips. Thanks for all your tips though man 😎👍

    13:41 great to see an mt60 connector being used for the phase wires. I would for sure advertise that as a feature over the standard connector block used on cheaper direct drive motor kits, which tends to not be great long term. plus you have a quick and easy quick disconnect.

    • @phillyd2018
      @phillyd2018 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      however a criticism that I would make for Andy is to sell proper torque arms on his website, the ones he sells are not ideal. The company which made them has said so themselves. A v2 style torque arm would be much better.

    Nice to see someone fitting the torque washers correctly on the inside, just file a little off the front side of the dropout then it'll fit in without a hammer 🔨 😉 ,it needs to come out easily at the side of the road incase you get a puncture .

    • @DudeStuff
      @DudeStuff  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Not sure what mean are you suggesting filling the dropout? I'd rather have it tighter and tap in with a plastic mallet. The tighter the fit the better. The mallet isn't needed for the dropout tightness anyway it's more likely the dropout width and spacers being tight filling wouldn't do anything to help that just loosen the axle fitment which isn't good! It's a gentle tap that doesnt damage anything to ensure its fully down as far as it can go. Steve

    • @ianmangham4570
      @ianmangham4570 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@DudeStuff Yes you file the front end of the drop out where the most metal is 17:03 where your left index finger is,,only a few points of a millimetre /0.2mm ,so it glides in smoothly.I been fitting these kits since 2013 and if used daily they pick up punctures because of the weight even with kevlar guard tyres. 🙏 so much easier to fix a puncture at the roadside with the wheel out, Ian 🤠🤟🇬🇧

  • @markbennett6658

    A generally good guide. I did a Yose Power 350w conversion on a Scott Sportster hybrid bike. That has an integrated controller in the battery mount which looks a lot cleaner. I’m guessing it’s not possible to do that with higher wattage conversions because the controller needs to be bigger to cope with the extra load? I did fit the triangular bag anyway. Excellent for a puncture repair kit, a few tools and a mini air compressor for roadside puncture fixes. I personally fitted the cadence sensor to get some exercise and extend the range. Probably less likely to attract attention from the plod if you’re pedalling a bit. I didn’t do the brake cut outs though for similar reasons and because my gear shift and brake levers are integrated. Thumb throttle is useful for getting away if you stop in too high a gear and ….15mph looks like warp speed😂

    • @DudeStuff
      @DudeStuff  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yeah that's right you generally have smaller less powerful controllers built in to battery bases. Grinn make a reasonable one but they can be a bit off with tech support and warranty on my experience. Plus you can only use their over priced displays with it, their ugly as hell and too over spec'd I don't need to programme throttle curve on my handle bars for 300 quid

    Nice video Dude, although I will say why not leave the nut on the axle for protection against the mallet / floor, if the threads do become damaged you just unscrew the nut and it reforms the thread.
    I've been watching your uploads for over a year now after I was forcibly reintroduced to cycling after a break of over 27 years, I've converted an old Giant hybrid bike with a Bafang mid mount kit which I now use to commute 4 miles each way, covered about 2,500 miles in a little over 12 months.

    @ProfYC 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Hey Buddy,
    Im new to your channel, and I have to say that you're doing a great job in explaining things.
    Just a few questions to ask.
    1. I can't see the £40 discount code nore the link?
    2. There are several restrictive laws on ebike speed limits but surely a 2000W 20ah ebike kit can do a tone more than 15mph?
    3. If I want to apply a front motor wheel hub and a rear motor wheel hub. Can I do that to a single battery and a single controller unit?
    4. How much would that cost roughly because from memory, I recall you done that to one of mountain 29" black bike with a combined power of 5000w?
    I hope you can help me out with my questions and give me a little guidance.
    Thanks, buddy.

    Are there any reasonably priced MTBs u recommend for conversions? I’ve tried about 5 different ones and none had a dropout wider than 135mm

      I found the 1kw-1.5kw hub motors fit easily into 135mm, so do you need 2kw if so it is harder

    Does the P.A.S settings 1-5 limit the speed on throttle or does the throttle over ride the numbered P.A.S setting.

      Default settings are that the throttle gives 100% power and ignores the pas setting.
