Loved your Q&A video, Corey....you could film/talk all day and I would never get bored. Thanks for great information!
Thanks so much!...I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
I love the Q&A. It doesn’t bother me how long the video goes for. I could easily listen to 40mins🥰
I'm so glad you enjoyed it...thank you for letting me know!
Q & A's are nice because a lot of people that start quilting are new to sewing, not everyone started out garment sewing like I did. A lot of people can't always fit scheduled classes into their personal schedules and sewing isn't being taught in most schools these days and it's not a skill handed down in the manner it used to be. I love that videos are available on the internet, but the assumption is made the viewer already has a minimum of sewing knowledge, so I can see why newbies would have questions. Thanks for answering their questions!
I think it's so interesting the questions I receive! Sometimes it's not anything I would have previously considered and it makes me think and learn!
Always enjoy your videos because you have such a warm personality. So thank you. I would like to share something I discovered for my needles that I have found to be a game changer in keeping organized. It's called My Pad from Schmetz. Basically it's a 3/8" -ish thick felt pad with rectangle boxes lined and labeled. The purpose of it is for when you remove your (still has life left) needles from your machine you put it in the rectangle that indicates it's size and type (ie. Jeans 90/14). This way the next time you need that size needle you go to your mat (which measures 6-3/4" square) and use whatever is there first before grabbing a new one. Also you put a pin or alike in the box in which indicates the needle currently in my machine. So at a glance looking at the mat you know exactly what needle is currently on your machine. Looking at those color on the needles isn't the easiest thing and this method of storing and marking is (to me) the best thing EVER!
That's a great suggestion! I wasn't aware of this notion & am so glad you mentioned it!
Another great Q & A! I always learn something, and I’m always given a few minutes of pleasure listening to you talk about my favorite hobby 😊❤️♥️
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I always enjoy chatting about quilting. =)
I would love to have more chatty, Q & A videos. You’re presentation of information makes it easy to understand, and the personal anecdotes you add are priceless. Yes - please show us Frances! We would love to see her, even briefly. I would also love to hear a little about your Amish heritage/connections, if you’re willing to share. Thank you for your videos, fabrics and expertise! ❤
We need to get her on camera!...she's so shy. =)
I'll add your question/suggestion to my list!...thank you!
Corey is fabulous. She’s so personal. I hope to meet her one day. I love her energy. Her fabrics are phenomenal and so are her patterns are never fail. Easy and fabulous.
Schmetz has nice online information, including which needles are for different applications, color photos, etc. Thanks for the video 😊
You're so welcome!...I always enjoy a fun Q&A. =)
Thank you for a great video. Your Q & A videos are very helpful to me. I’m relatively new to quilting and I like to hear not only how others do things, but why they use those methods.
You're so welcome...I'm so glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful. =)
I enjoyed this Q&A video and would enjoy seeing more of them in the future. I was taught quilting using an 80/12, but I have heard a lot of quilters such as yourself use a 90/14 needle and I am going to try that the next time. Thank you for all your wonderful videos and sharing your fur-baby updates 🐈😺
And I think I need to try out an 80/12! =)
Is there a difference between the two considering it’s a very short jump from 80 to 90?
@@dccd673 Yes, the 90 is a larger needle than the 80. It would be a stronger needle and also makes larger holes in your fabric.
Thanks for this q&a! I think videos like this are helpful to quilters of all levels. I would certainly like to see more of them.
Thank you for letting me know!
Just love the chatting about quilty things, can we have these q&a's more frequently? Yes we need at least a photo of Miss Frances shy kitty. Have a great week Corey nice way to start my Saturday with time in this group.
I need to get shy Miss Frances on camera...she's never been seen on video yet! =)
I really enjoy this type of video as well...I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Love the Q and As. More often would be great!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
I would love to see videos of quilts you make with your fabric lines.
You'll want to look through the Trunk Show videos I share here on TH-cam. They show the various quilts I design for each line of fabric as well as other trunk shows that feature my fabrics.
Cory you’re like a RAY OF SUNSHINE!☀️
That is so kind...thank you!
I love the Q & A videos, the length of them doesn’t bother me at !
So informative 😀
Oh good!...I'm so glad you enjoyed it. This one went a little bit longer than I planned. =)
Newbie here, glad I found you, thanks so much for all the info!!!
I'm so glad you found my channel!
Corey, thank youfor your answer to the submitted questions❤❤
These are always fun videos for me. =)
Q&A is awesome! I chuckled about having a collection of your fabric…I don’t want to cut into mine, either, because only the most worthy patterns qualify! Once sewn, it’s gone😢! I have preordered a bunch of Peachy Keen…it’s going to definitely be a favorite. ❤❤❤
I can't wait for Peachy Keen to hit the quilt shops. =)
Thank you Corey, great video. Longer length of videos are just as good. We can always pause and come back. Hello to Tiggs enjoy the outdoors. 😊
He's just meowing at me to let him out right now after coming back in from his morning jaunt. So, after typing this comment up, out he will go! =)
Love these videos. You are a joy!

Thank you!...I'm so glad you enjoy them. They are fun to share. =)
I really enjoy this type of video. Thank you🎉
Thank you for letting me know!...I really enjoyed sharing it!
Thank you Corey for the Q&A. Always fun. I use a Schmetz 80/12 topstitch needle. If I'm doing a bag, I'll use a denim 100. I used to always cut my bindings on the bias but have switched to straight of grain at 2-1/4". I sew onto the front, bring it around to the back and machine sew in the ditch of the front, catching the binding on the back. If I miss a spot, I either hand sew it or if it's a wall hanging, I'll glue it.
These are all great suggestions...thank you for leaving them!
Thank you for these practical, informative tips!
You are so welcome!
I love your Q & A videos. Thank you for taking the time to answering these questions. I always learn something. You are amazing!

I love you Q&A video and I don’t care how long it is I love to listen!
Thank you so much!
I've really enjoyed this Q and A video! I've been quilting for about 2-1/2 years and appreciate the extra information. Love your fabric lines!
Thanks so much!...I really enjoy Q&A videos as well!
This was fun thank you!!!!
You're so welcome...I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I love your machine binding video! It is my go to method and I pull it up every time I bind a quilt!
I'm so glad that video has been helpful to you! I'm so happy to have a machine binding technique that works well for me.
Love your Q & A videos , you were so helpful with the hand quilting supplies, it opened my eyes to some beautiful threads and needles so thank you ❤ and you are a natural at explaining, another great video, please keep doing them!
Thank you so much!...I really enjoy these sorts of videos!
I love Saturday Coffee with Corey! 😻 I need to rewatch that binding video and get busy on my binding pile.
Those bindings add up!
Love your videos ❤
Thank you!
Enjoyed your Q&A. Thanks for video
You're so welcome!...I'm glad you enjoyed it!
love the Q and As
They are a lot of fun to share!
Yes more Q& A. I love stripes for binding.
Stripes for the binding are the best!
Thanks for another Q & A; yes, I love these and would appreciate more -- what a treat to get answers and advice from you! Love all of your eye candy fabric in the background as well. Thanks for all you do!
Thanks so much!...I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed your video. Thank you.
Thank you!...I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It was a fun video to share. =)
Thank you, Corey! I enjoyed hearing your thoughts answering the questions. It's interesting to learn how others do things!
We all do things so differently don't we! As I am reading down through these comments today it's been interesting how many people have mentioned that they use different sewing machine needles for the different parts of quilt making.
Love these q and a's! Really enjoy all the questions. Apricot and Ash, my favorite! But I could keep going cause I like them all!
I'm so glad you enjoyed watching. It was a fun one to film as well. =)
Q and A vids r great. I always pick up tidbits. But I do love seeing how you make quilts, choose fabrics and design.
There are so many fun aspects to quilt making!
Great video. Really enjoy the Q & A. Thank you
You're so welcome!...I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hi. Thank for your info Q/A. info on needle is very helpful & all the rest of this video... always great to hear tips on how to use & sew thanks again ps love your cats , story
Those kitties!...they are fun to chat about. I never thought we would be a cat family. =)
Anytime I try to hand quilt or bind something I'm pulling up your videos so I can reference them easily. They are so helpful going step by step, very clear and concise! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
That's wonderful to hear!...I'm so glad you find those videos helpful. =)
I appreciate these shorter you tubes. The others are getting way too long. Yours are short and sweet.
Did you find this Q&A to be too long? It did go longer than I had planned with my update at the beginning!
Corey I enjoy your Q&As. I learn a lot and like your ideas of ways to approach a part of quilting. Keep up the great work. Thank you for all your work. I love your fabrics. Apricot and Ash was one of my favorites.
Thanks so much Sue!...I really enjoy these Q&A sort of videos. They are a lot of fun to share.
Apricot & Ash was a favorite of many!
I used to need to prewash all of my quilting fabrics because I am very allergic to fabric sizing. Lately I have been able to sew my quilt blocks without prewashing. I am not sure what changed, but I am happy to dispense with that step!
That makes sense...I have actually been noticing the opposite and have been getting just a little bit "sneezy" when I work with fabric for many hours in a day (where I never used to). I haven't determined if it's the actual little fabric bits themselves or something different that is causing that. But I've noticed it!
I have always used a schmetz ,microtex needle 70/10 for everything, piecing and quilting, only because when years ago I was new into quilting and was confused about which needle to use,I happened to watch a video of Edyta Sitar and that’s the needles she uses, they work great for me and they are quite fine but strong enough for quilting too❤
Edyta does beautiful piecing, doesn't she!
Yes I like the Q&A videos
Thank you so much for letting me know!
I use remnants of my quilt sandwich to try out binding techniques. I’ve been quilting for a year and a half and found this to be beneficial. I LOVE your binding tutorial Corey!❤
That's a great suggestion Gloria! Thank you for leaving that comment. =)
Thanks, Corey. The Q/A had some really good info. Next on my new technique queue is trying machine binding.
You're so welcome!...it was a fun video to share. =)
We can all use a refresher of current sewing techniques! I didn’t know about the 80/12 microtex needle till I started watching the videos.
There are always new tools and techniques popping up all of the time. We might be happy with our current tools and techniques but we also might be happy with something new!
Thank you for all the useful information! I use an 80/20 microtex needle for piecing my quilts.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for sharing the comment to let your local fabric shop know when they are interested in a fabric line.
It is overwhelming choosing which fabrics to bring in each season. Much appreciate your previews of new fabrics you have designed.
Q&As are great, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Of course!...I don't know how you decide what to choose and what to let go. So many decisions!
I was lucky enough to get a jelly roll in Apricot and Ash. Love it! One of the prettiest quilts I've made. Corey - your fabric lines are always my favorite.
Thank you so much!...Apricot & Ash was such a fun line to design. =)
I finished a quilt a couple of weeks ago and decided I would do it all. It was a very easy quilt so I just did the stitch in the ditch for the quilting and I followed you video for the binding. I could not have done it had I not had that video. I watch it at least 10 times but it got me through it and it looks pretty good if I say so myself. Thank you so much for all you do do us.
Oh thank you so much for letting me know Pam!...I'm so glad that video was helpful for you!
Thank you for the Q&A. Always can learn something new and would like to see you do more videos like this. Also enjoyed looking at your Picket Fence Cottages quilt. I have the pattern and Beautiful Day bundle…just have to get to sewing! I always use an 80/12 needle which is what my Singer Patchwork recommends. However I have a collection of Schmetz Universal 90/14 needles from different subscription boxes so might have to try them one day and see how it works in my machine. Thank you for letting us know about Tiggs routine. Guess we will have to wait for cooler weather. Lol. Would love to see Frances one of these days. See you next time Corey.
I was hoping I might have an 80/12 from one of those boxes to try myself! =) I'll see what I can do about getting Frances on camera but it might be a little tricky! LOL
I got :2”” from you long ago and that made my day
For the binding?...isn't that such a nice width. I find that works so well for me!
Corey I watched that binding video and do mine the exact same way! I love it! 2” strips are the best!
I think that width makes such a difference. =)
We will miss you Tiggs! Have fun with adventures 🐱
He is an adventurer!
Good morning, Corey! I always enjoy Q&As! I am excited to see the trunk show of the quilts for shelter. Sadly, I think they will be in need of beautiful comforting quilts for a long time. Thank you for going in depth on the needles. I have actually just been pondering this! I generally just use a universal because when I have time to sew, I might be patching a pair of jeans, and then going straight to piecing, etc, and I don't want to take the time to change the needle, but have been telling myself I would probably have better/finer end results if I changed that needle, lol.
I was just getting back into quilting when Apricot and Ash was running out of stock. I agree, I would love to see sister line 😉 I LOVE your machine binding tutorial, and have watched it over and over. Your method for the joining the ending and beginning makes my quilt bindings look so good! I still have trouble with my corners, but on my last project, only had to rip a few stitches out of one corner, so improvement is happening, lol.
Have a great weekend!
Hi Amanda!...It'll be fun to share those quilts once I get them back. I'm afraid, too, this will be an ongoing need.
The needle chat was interesting to me...I hadn't given too much thought to my needle choice and now I think I want to try out some other options!...I've always used a universal for all parts quilt making and it's been interesting to see how many change needles depending on what part of the quilt they are working on.
Hi Corey. What a treat today. I’ve had a tray of ironed scraps that have been calling my name. So when I got home I started your video (glad it ran a bit longer 😂😂) I almost got through that tray. You are MUCH APPRECIATED thank you. Have a great weekend. Oh I love your binding video but I settled on 2-1/4. That works best for me 🤷♀️
It's so nice to have something to listen to while piecing or trimming! I'm glad you discovered that 2 1/4" is the sweet spot for your binding. It's wonderful when we discover what works best for us.
Corey....thank you for the Sunny Patches Block 4.....I LOVE it....already made it using chicken fabric (so darned cute) and I have cut it out in Christmas fabric for a table runner. You are the best!!!
I'm so glad you like that block!
Thank you so much Corey! It was very helpful, and I am going to look at the article you posted. I am finding out about the thread, and I think I have found one that works well (of course the more expensive kind-LOL) and am doing better. I have started using a tape that has 3 lines on, for helping line up the corners of the blocks that I have enjoyed using so far. Thank you again! Love the Q&A's.
I'm so glad you found it helpful!...I've wanted to answer that question ever since we didn't get to it in the last Q&A. I'm so glad you've found a thread that works well in your machine. My juki is very happy with Aurifil in 50 wt. so that is what I tend to use. It is more expensive but there is also more thread on a spool due to the thread being finer. I sure appreciate not having to change my spools/bobbins as often!
And you're probably talking about diagonal seam tape!...that is such a great notion. I use it all the time!
Thanks for the Q and A. No prewashing or heavy searching for me. I just use Best Press. I see the advantage of heavy starch, but I would rather just get to piecing. Yes, I love Schmetz microtex needles. Thanks for the kitty update! Happy kitties equals happy quilters. 😻
I typically dive right into the cutting and piecing as well. I do all of the cutting right up front and then all of the piecing next. I often wonder if others do the same or if they just cut portions of their project out at a time.
I pre wash my wide backing only. I enjoy the Q&A, thank you.
That's interesting!...now I'm curious as to why only the backing (and just the wide backing at that!)?
Good morning, I always find a tip or two pin Q&A s! Always good to hear how other people sew! aim for sure going to try that 2inch binding on my next quilt finish! Cheers!
It's interesting how we all approach quilt making just a little bit differently!
Hi Corey, I've been doing your sewalongs and watching your videos for along while now. I love the machine binding but wonder if you use minkey for the backing do you need to cut the binding a little larger due to the thickness. Would 2 1/8 or 2 1/4 work?
Thanks Sharon
@@sharonanddickfewkes5477 I have used 2" on minky backing but it's a tight fit. You might find that you'd like to go up just a bit.
Thanks so much for all the info Corey!!! I used 90/14 for fpp blocks and have used them for all quilting but I also use 80/12 also!
I need to try an 80/12 and see what I think!
I go between an 90/14 & a 80/12. My preference is for the 80/12, as it leaves smaller holes. I’ve loved starching my fabrics before cutting it, so much more accurate than without for sewing and cutting.
Thanks for the video! I love the Q&A!
I really think I might have to give an 80/12 a whirl just to see what I think. =)
Corey! I love all of your videos! I look forward to each and every one!
I use 80/12 needles most of the time. I use. Bernina machine and a 1/4 inch foot and it doesn’t have a bar. I loved your recommendations for other feet! Have and use them all!
With binding and 2 1/2 inch strips I cut a 1/4 inch away from the edge of my quilt top. Sew my binding to the back and flip to the front. It fills the space nicely and looks beautiful! Gina Tell of thread graffiti and Kimberly Jolly of FQS both have videos on this.
Thanks so much!
That would help fill the space...great tip!
Thanks Corey. Lots of good information. I typically use an 80/12 needle. I’m hoping to improve my machine binding skills to do it more often especially on big quilts that take for ever to hand bind!
I really like having a machine binding option that works well for me. It took quite a bit of trial and error to land on a method that I enjoy and that finishes as I hope.
Binding with a flange has become my favorite method.
It's such a nice finish!
In regards to binding, I saw someone using a stiletto when topstitching the binding on the front. This was a game changer for me. I no longer have to take the time to pin 😊
Stilettos are a wonderful tool! I don't pin my binding but I sure do like using a couple wonder clips and moving them along as I go.
@@CorianderQuilts I use clips too, not pins😳 I had never used my stiletto until I saw that video.
@@lynnmcentire4014 Stilettos work wonderful in small piecing to help guide the pieces through. They are so nice!
Great Q & A👍… yes, i would like to hear more sessions in the future. I was watching the interview video with you and Kimberly when Tiggs ‘popped’ in… i chuckled and recalled you mentioning in past how ‘you just never know’ about Tiggs and Frances is the shy one…they are living a great life… thank you for rescuing them. I will have to try the 2” binding… but first the tutorial😉🪡🧵
He had been outside all that morning and I didn't realize that my daughter had let him back in...and then suddenly, there he was! =) He's so funny...and such fun to have in our family. =)
Hello Corey, Good Afternoon 🥰👏❣️ Thank You for all the support you have provided to everyone today. Very Helpful❣️ Thank You So Much. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and upcoming weeks, 🥰👍🥰 Chris
Hi Chris!...it's been a fun chatty day, hasn't it. =) I always enjoy chatting in the comments on video days. You have a wonderful weekend too!
I use a 60/8 or 70/10 needle. I find the others create holes that are too large. No prewash or starching.
Thank you. I do love you answering the technical quit questions. I enjoy the longer videos. I use 90/14..but also use 80/12. Basically I buy whats on sale. I have a Janome and it likes Gutermann. If I ver from that, it acts crazy. I also think its the sewer and how they handle their machines.
My Bernina also tends to get along great with Gutermann and I use it primarily for machine applique on that machine.
I use a 90/14.
I often machine bind and find that wearing a quilting glove on my left hand helps me keep control of the bulk. This helps reduce wear and tear on my hands and back. Thanks for sharing all your tips and tricks. Love your fabrics and patterns.
Thank you for this tip!...I will use a quilting glove for machine quilting but I'd never considered doing so for machine binding. I can see how it might be helpful.
I do like this format because you get questions that maybe wouldn’t cross your mind. Cannot tell a lie I do enjoy it when Tiggs decides to help you out 😂 we had 4 strays (long story) for 15 yrs and anyone that visited never saw them. The minute they heard strange voices they would disappear under a bed so I totally understand camera shy Frances. Enjoy your weekend
It's interesting for me too...like the sewing machine needle question wasn't one I had really thought too much about. Looking into needles made me think that I need to try out an 80/12 and see what I think!
That sounds like Frances!...I know there are people that only think we have one cat. She's so shy. Some of our friends have seen her but not that often and usually briefly. My daughter's boyfriend pet her on the head a couple weeks ago and we were so surprised that happened!
I found this chat session incredibly helpful!
Corey
I just love watching you and enjoy sewing with your beautiful fabrics. They inspire me to make gorgeous quilts. I wonder if you have any tips for joining quilt rows that don’t use corner squares to line up blocks. I struggle with keeping my blocks aligned when there are no corner squares to keep me on track. Thanks in advance for your help. Keep putting beauty into the world. Many blessings to you and your family.
Thank you so much Sandy! This is a great question and I've added it to my list of questions but thought I'd answer here as well since I don't know how soon I'll get that next video up!
Those are trickier to line up without that extra guidance. I will often let mine fall as they do and don't worry about it too much. But, If I wanted to be a bit more precise you could finger press to find the center of your blocks horizontally and vertically (just a little center crease on each side). When sewing together the blocks into rows, you can use those little crease marks to make sure the centers of your blocks are aligning and pin to make sure they don't move. Same goes for when joining together the completed rows with the longer sashing strips.
@@CorianderQuilts thank you for the suggestion- I truly NEVER thought of that and will totally be using this on my quilt. I appreciate you taking the time to answer. Have a blessed day.
@@sandykaras2270 I'm glad that was helpful! You have a wonderful day too!
Love the Q & A videos. Curious , do you starch before cutting your fabric and if so, which method, dip or spray???
I typically do not starch. If I do, it is spray.
Love the Q & A. Also I often wonder why shops don’t order more of the background white on white fabrics they come in a line. They always seem to run out of that.
The white on white prints in my fabric lines are always my top selling prints. I'm so excited to have Coriander Seeds in my line-up of fabrics so shops have 10 of my popular white on white prints that they can re-order when they need to.
@@CorianderQuilts Good to know that. Thank you.
Question: Have you used the curved pins to hold your blocks in place? What are your thoughts on this? Please continue the Q & A very interesting information, thank you very much for taking time to answer our questions. Anxious for Peachy Keen to come out!
Thanks so much for this question!...I'll add it to the list for the next Q&A. =)
I like both. 80/12 I’ve used for piecing. But for quilting I like 90/14.
Thank you for weighing in!
I have been quilting for almost 40 years and up until 3 years ago I never had any fabrics bleed. But 3 years ago I made a disappearing hourglass quilt with white background. I chose a hot pink batik for background. The first time I washed the quilt it bled horribly. Every bit of white was now a medium pink😯😯. I ran out and bought Shout - a color catcher. I had to wash the quilt 7 more times with the color catcher before the Shout strips came out an undecernable light light pink and the background appeared white.
I now always wash my quilts the first time with Shout. And if I suspect a particular fabric might bleed I do a first wash with Retayne to set the colors.
Note: I have always only purchased my fabrics from a quilt shop!
Oh that's too bad! I haven't sewn with batiks but I have heard that they tend to bleed more than regular quilting cottons.
Thanks so much. I plan to be at your trunk show in August in Berlin and would like to check out some quilt shops in the area. I can't find the video where you referenced your favorite shops. Was it perhaps with FQS trunk show?
It might have been this blog post: corianderquilts.com/local-shops-and-restaurants-to-visit/ I would also add Chestnut Ridge Sewing to this list.
