Say what you want about Genesis, ot didnt slap the face of the entire franchise by killing John Connor. And if that wasnt bad enough, SJW bs had to tag in. A shame too.
Yes John was trash. He never does anything that makes me think he has any kind of leadership skills. The new girl only give a small speech, but it's hella more believable then john standing around with a scare.
I feel like I enjoyed this one but I also ...feel like they didnt need to make so many so close together. It deffinetly suffered from franchise fatigue

I dont think they need to stop doing them but they need to stop repeating stuff or trying to capture t2's magic. Make the machines the good guys and the human target bad or even bad but willing to change. Make the machines less murdery and more 'they live-esque.' Make the machines take over human bodies, body snatcher style. Just something else involving machines coming back in time to avert something. There is alot to work with if theyd stop repeating themselves or undoing/redoing other films.
Arnie should've said that he was getting too old for this shit and dropped the franchise. I'm sure Dark Fate would've struggled to be greenlit without him unless James Cameron ordered a creepy digitally rendered model a la Tarkin.

Hey, you want a full circle ending for the franchise? An alternative ending to Judgement Day. The terminator lives and John and Sarah go into hiding. Skynet keeps sending back terminators to kill him, but only find the hero terminator, who calls himself John Connor. He eventually leads the rebellion against skynet and wins the war. Because John Connor was always a terminator.
Awesome idea to wrap up a terrible (minus the amazing first 2 films) franchise. It had exactly 0 chance of happening, though, because the purpose is not to make a good movie, but to milk a franchise dry. Both of the first 2 films could have wrapped up the series, but the bad movies (3 and every film after) left it open for more movies, because the goal for those films was to make money, not good movies.

It bugged me so much how Grace was so antagonistic towards Sarah for no reason other than to seem tough. Like come on, she saved both their lives, has experience killing terminators, and understands that Dani is the key to humanities victory over the machines so she'll protect her no matter what.
Except she's not the key because we JUST LEARNED no matter what you do, the future will not change. They can't stop it, everything is hopeless. What stupid writers.
I kind of understand her antagonism, though. Sarah wants to kill the Rev 9, while Grace wants to run. And given that the Rev 9 doesn't take any damage until the final sequence, I'd say, yeah, wanting to stand and fight was pretty stupid. The only reason they manage to fight at all is because the movie makers make the rev 9 push main characters, rather than stab/cut like he does with everyone else.
She came from the captain marvel school of characters. That being rather than writing a strong female character that also feels genuine and likeable we will just make her an obnoxious nasty argumentative brat and we have our default label for anyone who doesn't like her.
The intro is hillarious. So, the whole Terminator events were around person of John Connor. But Dark Fate is like "nah, he's dead and he's useless. It's not important now and everything you've seen is in vain"
It makes perfect sense that all the stuff they did would screw up the timeline, and to the point where it follows: "Your savior is no longer your savior because Skynet, which you'll recall was on the verge of defeat in T1, ended up basically causing itself to be retconned out of existence, and the only reason why it's still aiming at John is because that's the information they had when they spammed all these T-850's, but no, one of their robots combined with John's mother and the lead scientist for Skynet to Pogo-paradox Skynet out of reality". What doesn't make sense to me is that it causes the exact same concept to happen almost _exactly_ the same way. And I gotta agree with Doug, which doesn't often happen lately, that the fake-out that Danni's gonna give birth to the leader of the resistance instead of be the leader? That was so freaking obvious I could see it a mile away.
Honestly the thing about Sarah thinking it was going to be Danni's kid, makes more sense when you consider she was a airhead waitress in the 80's and now she's beating the NSA. Her life got RUINED, and it wasn't even about her. It makes sense that she's bitter and that she thinks this poor kid is just collateral.
But it was about her because she raised him, John even states that his mom raised him to be a soldier. But I guess people have an issue with not being the center of attention. So no her assuming that it would be Danny’s son makes no sense.

Except that her being bitter that it's not her, doesn't really work here, although it does make a convenient segue into what would have been a better film. The whole thing was set up so that the leader of the resistance was a woman anyway, so why not just make it Sarah Conner? Hell, you could have her fall apart, be depressed and angry, then decide to get her revenge, finding new purpose by tracking down and killing the terminator that killed her son. You could even have the movie end with her surviving judgement day and being the one who leads the human resistance. Besides, there's two big holes in this film with the t-800, established in previous films. 1) the t-800s learning computer is locked down and can only be reactivated by shutting him down and resetting his cpu, as shown in t-2) I hate that I'm calling back to t-3 as that movie sucked, but one of the things that it got right was that skynet would have had some sort of secondary mission for the t-800 once it completed its mission to kill John Conner., most likely to insure that nothing interfered with skynet's own creation. There's a third hole, but that one goes back as least as far as t-3 and arguably even t-2, depending on how you wanna look at it, so I'll leave it alone for now.
I think it kinda makes sense considering the Terminator killed John and not her, that after all she's done she is not even considered as a threat by skynet. She's also must be really upset to have survived to her kid, so I can picture her thinking that way after all this years. But the excecution is not good, I don't see why Grace would not reveal that information to them (at first I though it was because she was in love with Daniella and it was just hard for her to reveal about the future, but no...)
I'd love a sequel that does an army of darkness which accidently sends the terminator to medieval times which just so happens has Johns very distant relatives
Sarah Connor: It's like a giant strobe light burning right through my eyes. Somehow I can still see. Children look like burnt paper... black... not moving. And then the blast wave hits them. And then they fly apart like leaves. Somehow Linda Hamilton's thoughts on the Dark Fate script made it into the movie.
And there it is also shown that he actually picked up another job in pest control, calls himself the ex-terminator God dammit they already made that joke
5:39 actually the other films ARE still canon. You see, thanks to the existence of time travel, all the films in this franchise are simultaneously in the same continuity and different continuities. There’s actually a scene in the film that hints at this, when Grace states that Skynet doesn’t exist in her future. The implication is that there are multiple possible futures, the evidence for this being the fact that, despite Skynet not existing, the original T-800, manufactured by Skynet, DOES exist, which it couldn’t without Skynet. Coupled with the fact that, in Genisys, it was established that there are other timelines, this means that the ORIGINAL timeline does, in fact, still exist.
Even Cameron and Tim Miller were at each other's throats during production. Despite promoting the film at San Diego Comic Con 2019, they hated each other.
Can Miller ever work on a project that doesn’t have behind the scenes issues? Deadpool, Overestimated the budget and had to rewrite the climax Deadpool 2, Got into arguments with Reynolds about the scale the movie should be leading to him being removed Sonic, He allowed that abomination of a first design to be green-lit Dark Fate, got into arguments with Cameron and ended up hating the guy
Considering my own feelings about the Deadpool film... I suspect I'd be on Camerons side. Now, Cameron himself does have a reputation of being... opinionated... when it comes to on set politics. But again. If I'm to judge them by their works... When it comes to filmmaking. I'd listen to his cooky ideas. At least take the suggestions under heavy consideration.
@@NeoConnor1 No, in the theatrical version the Terminator says his CPU is a learning computer, which is why John started teaching him stuff later in the film. The Extended cut said it was set on said it was a read-only mode so they don't do too much thinking, which why the had to whole scene with them resting the switch. They eventually cut it because replaced it with the theatrical version because it gets the same idea across.
I think having John be replaced with just someone else who happens to be an ethnic female feels a bit pandering. What could be an idea is that Sarah rises to be the leader of the resistance. How is this the case? Bootstrap paradox (which kinda what John was). Why is there a new threat? Sarah went after the precursors to Skynet, not knowing about Legion. BOOM! Fixed
In terms of the real-world movie makers, I can't disagree, that was almost certain a calculated decision. But "in-universe," roughly half the population is female and the majority of the planet is "ethnic." Quite frankly, making the savior Caucasian is more pandering.
Or maybe sending more than one terminator to each timeline might work better. Seriously, can you imagine how much problems Kyle Reese would've had if they had sent like 5 or 6 terminators back to the 80's to kill Sarah Connor instead of just sending one? He'd be dead for sure.

@@thewolfofwallstreet627 i don't think Skynet ever knows there were terminators in the history. because the biggest secret about time travel is that it could be done. if Skynet knows there were terminators, he would instantly know 'time travel is possible', then it would devote way more resources into time travel, and gets it way faster. then, there would be a terminator army sent back in time to kill the entire human race, rather than one John Connor. so, what i think is, terminators do change the future, each terminator is actually sent by a different Skynet, and each Skynet never knows there were terminators in the history, or doesn't even know time-travel could have worked. instead, every Skynet does time-travel blindly, out of desperation, as a final struggle before gets destroyed by humans, so every terminator always is under-prepared and working alone, because they don't know there are/were others to cooperate with. this hopefully could explain all those sequels.
Or...send different Terminators to kill the precedent of EVERY LEADER/ESSENTIAL ASSET of the Resistance. That way, even if only one or two are successfully erased, that would be enough to undermine the Resistance's efforts. Or sent a Terminator that has an added database of known Resistance members and the first (and/or only) order of business: ERADICATE THE TIME TRAVELER. Removes the possibility of being thwarted AND culls out the most threatening thorns in Skynet's side. Two birds, one stone.

The "heroine" was so unbelievable that I actually got distracted from Arnold and Sarah being whack. I even started using the word "whack" to describe them.
My favorite part as a Mexican is that they tried to say the beginning was in Mexico City but it’s sure as shit that’s not even close to Mexico City lmao
With Skynet and Judgment Day gone, so should John Connor. Because the time loop has ended. However, I do not think John getting killed by a Terminator made sense, because Terminators are the reason why John existed. What would've been more sense is John disappearing and Sarah always seeing the visions of John here and there, talking to here. Sometimes she has visions of herself inside a padded cell. Sometimes she is being hunted by a lurking stalker. A psychological thriller. Then end it with her realizing by ending Judgment Day, she messed up the timeline. Should she cause Judgment Day to happen, sacrificing 3 billion lives so time would stop collapsing onto itself?
John was an artifact in time. As were all the Terminators Skynet may have sent. So we have a world full of things that should not be hunting the man who should not exist. The once saviour, now must find a new purpose while being pursued by unknown numbers of killer machines whose core function remains: Find and kill. What can a lone Man, abandoned by the Future that never will be do in an uncaring World without a set path to follow? Never come and see: TERMINATOR: UNCERTAIN FATE
I love this idea. There are familiar elements in other science-romance movies, but highlighting the time-traveling aspect of this franchise could be feel nuance and authentic in the same time!
One part that I always found difficult to believe is that the terminator would start a family, I find it more likely that if the task was done it would just stand on the spot waiting for the next instructions.
Well, it is an infiltration unit designed to mix with the crowd. It can learn to mimic human behavior, notice that a lot of people are married and old single dudes just standing places is considered suspicious, so he could learn the standard date algorithm, find a desperate woman and make a decoy family. Would he develop self awareness or compassion though? Doubt it.
A better idea could've been to have it do just that. Have it power down and go pretty much catatonic. Then have Sarah take the non-functioning chassis and put it into storage to study/keep from Cyberdyne. Then when Grace and Danni come alone, have Grace help her power it back up and then reprogram it to fight for them so they'll have a new drone. Eliminates the family element and gives Sarah and the Terminator more weight in the story.
I get she is half robot half human but I can't take her threats serious when she sounds like shes about to burst into tears like when I'm angry and trying to no cry at the same time
In something like Tully or Izzy Get's the F across Town, where she is meant to be a bit obnoxious, her acting works well, but in this, she seems to mistake obnoxious for tough! Something which is made more painfully obvious when she has to act along side Linda Hamilton.
@@Dargonhuman Even then, kid John Connor's outbursts always felt genuine. In T2, when the T-800 refused to rescue Sarah, and John responded by hitting him while shouting, "Yeah well FUCK YOU, she's a priority to me!!" You knew he wasn't bullshitting. When Grace told _Sarah Frickin' Connor,_ "I will fuck you up," she just came across as someone overcompensating for their own insecurities. So, yeah, even without cybernetic enhancements, I'd say kid John Connor could be "more intimidating", in the sense that you knew he _is_ prepared to backup any threats he makes. He has the bite to match the bark.

There's a lot of rumor that in script it was, but it was changed last minute for unknown reasons, with even the staff suggesting to the audience that "maybe Dyson's son changed his name" near release to compensate for it. It very clearly was supposed to be him.

You know what. I would actually like to see a TV show where a terminator meet a family and needs to keep his identity secret and also take care of he's new family.
Grace didn't have health issues because she was sick, she had health issues because the cybernetics rapidly deplete her system when overused. Makes sense. Not saying she's the best character, but it is worth mentioning. Also, the, "also, this is Texas," line cracks me up every time I hear it.
I hear that line and think "are all those guns there actually guns legally allowed to be sold?" there's probably a lot of loop holes and being a machine T 800 exploits all of them but still I find it odd how he got through all the background checks since he isn't even a citizen, maybe he can forge nigh perfect fake ID's or something being a machine and all

7:07 she has health problems BECAUSE she's a cyborg. Her cybernetics are ULTRA taxing on her body, it's basically like super adrenaline. You get a huge surge to strength, speed and reaction time but it strains your body so much that over-usage would kill you.
Love the disgust of how they say “some man who saves humanity”, it’s like they don’t care if humanity is saved if it’s to be saved by a guy. Like it’s not important that humanity is saved, only the gender of the one who does. It also goes against Sarah’s character, considering she was so broken up about her boyfriend and son this entire time, and now she’s like “ew, men”.
Be it SJWs or poor writers what I can’t handle is these people who want to make a girl power movie don’t understand and diss on the movie that actually does it right. Sarah Conner didn’t just give birth to the leader she raised that leader. Her role for the future was just as important as her son’s, John would be nothing of it weren’t for his mother who taught and raised him to be a soldier. In T2 even after she had given birth to John, her role in The story wasn’t finished, she needed to guide and protect John for the future. Even Skynet, a machine which doesn’t understand emotions and philosophy, knew she was still a threat. If the T-1000 fails to kill John then plan B was to kill Sarah, killing her means John losses the guidance he needs to become a leader. Wether Sarah or John dies, the leader is never born and Skynet still wins. Sarah Conner wasn’t a womb, she was a mother
If the T800 from T2 decided to live and then Sarah and John had gotten him on a highly viewed news program, they would do a better job at averting every pathway to Judgement Day than merely surviving would ever provide. Just putting that out there.

No, it's exactly what I wanted to hear from a Terminator film - an acknowledgement that for all the hype about Sarah Connor as a strong female character, she doesn't matter. She's just a uterus to birth the man who does matter. As soon as she gives birth to John, nobody cares if she lives or die or what she does with her life - she has served her purpose. She's the Virgin Mary, and nobody cares about the Virgin Mary beyond her role as a babymama. And this motherhood obsession is in a lot of Cameron movies. He retconned Ripley to make her a mom and retconned the xenomorphs to give them a mom as well, after all. So Dark Fate actually wrestling with that idea is one of the movie's good point.

Yeah me too. A future war movie was really the only place to go after T2 and they kept not doing it. T3 or Salvation would have been great beginnings to further future war movies, but I lost hope after they both failed to get sequels. During the production of Dark Fate, the producers said the movie was going to "finally give the fans what they've wanted since T2" and I seriously thought they meant it was finally time for a future war prequel type movie, since it's literally the only thing I've seen fans asking for since T2. Instead we got...a T2 reboot? I don't even.
As a fan: I totally agree, the visual call out would have been awesome! But in reality: NOPE! This young boy (Danny) witnessed an assassination attempt on his father's life and even put himself in between his wounded father and the same woman with a gun pointed at his head. Then, he was ushered into a room by a slightly older kid to calm him down but never saw the robot arm nor hear the explanation about Skynet and the future. By the next morning Danny finds out his Dad was made to leave the house with the assassin and is now dead?! It's not like John could've filled him in on any of that information later because he is also dead (from the beginning of Dark Fate). There's no amount of explaining Danny's mother could do where he doesn't hate Sarah forever. From Danny's perspective, that wouldn't make sense. The only contact he would make would be to sabotage her.
A sitcom about Arnold and his family. “Honey I’m home” “That’s great how was your day hunting Terminator’s?” “Very tiring, what’s for dinner?” “Your favorite, bolts and motor oil.” “I love you dear.”
They should had given her a personality flaw instead then. Given her a character arc - Like, literally everyone in T1 and T2. But oh well, that takes effort! Quick! Fetch the medicine!
I mean, they literally explain why she needs medicine. Because the machine implants that let her fight a Terminator in hand to hand combat overclocks her biological systems and basically burn her out unless she gets medical treatment to stabilize her. As someone who has enjoyed a great deal of media where a character has an ability that figuratively or literally risks killing them when they use it, it did not come off as odd to me personally.
These movies just ruin his sacrifice. As we now know, if he hadn't died, nothing would have changed. Well, except he probably would have stopped John from dieing from the Terminator sent back by the Skynet...that doesn't exist...anymore...
@@EvanTomiko And lets better not think about it too hard or we may remember that T2 actually defined why this wouldn’t happen as Skynet doesn’t allow the terminators to evolve in any way (Skynet had some level of intelligence after all and didn’t want any competition from an evolved terminator in the past).

@@SakuraAvalon Exactly, that chip would prevent the T-800 from Dark Fate to depart from his original programming. So who removed it and why would he have allowed anybody to do so? It makes no sense in the original context (and it’s supposed to fit in the original context).

OMG, the Dyson's son thing would've worked SO well, like the supplying EMP for Sarah could've been him paying her back for sparing his father's life and the work they did before he died. That could've been such a great addition to this film!!
I actually saw a decent idea on a review of Dark Fate of instead of Arnold, it's John that Sarah goes to instead. This idea that they grew apart because John believed they had finished the fight and saved the future so they could relax and be a family again but Sarah could never let the idea that Skynet could never be stopped. Or maybe she'd spent so long preparing for Skynet and the apocalypse that the idea of it finally being over leaves her feeling empty and unable to be a normal mom. It kinda seemed neat in a 'What can a savior do, now that there's nothing needing saving?" kind of way. They meet up again, John talks about the family he's made for himself, the normal life he's managed to live up to this point that Sarah never had. Like Sarah picks up a photo of John and his family and has to struggle not to cry. Sarah: "Cute kid, what's his name?" John: "I named him Kyle, I...may not have known my dad but at the very least I felt like I should honor him somehow. I felt like you'd approve too. I would have named him after...well you know, but he never had a name, did he?" Sarah: "He didn't...but I think they'd both be proud of you if they saw you." John: "Well...I had a great role model." Sarah: "Yeah, that tin can was more of a father figure than anyone I ever tried to be with." John: "You know that's not what I mean. I missed you Mom, it took me years to finally understand but I get why you couldn't go back to a normal life. Do I wish things could have been different? Of course I do. I wish you could have been there to see my graduate college, or there when I got married, or there when Kyle was born, but I know you've been lurking in the shadows protecting me from any possible threats. I just wish I could've been strong enough to take the reins and protect you and let you live your life." Sarah: "Honey, I was a waitress at a two bit diner before I met your Dad. I didn't have much of a life before or after." They reconnect after Sarah finds out that John still did his prep work too because she had drilled it into him so much and he still had those fears that Skynet may come back in some form too, he was just better at hiding it and tried harder to move on. John helps them fight the Rev-9 until he heroically sacrifices himself to save Dani, symbolically remaining humanity's savior just by passing the torch. Is it perfect? No, but I just feel like it would have been different in a good way.
You must feel as frustrated as so many others that you can just casually come up with more creative and interesting ideas than Hollywood can put out with huge budgets.

@@jsveterans6949 As a Trekkie who has been living that with the Trek franchise since 2009, yes, it is incredibly frustrating watching incompetent ideologues ruin successful franchises because they keep wanting to shove their personal politics ahead of writing a good story. It's clear that the people writing these new entries (be it Terminator, Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who or whatever) have no clue what they're writing, are not fans of the franchises and have zero idea of what made them popular and successful to begin with. When the fans can come up with better elevator pitches in 5 minutes for a franchise than all of the writers could with all of the months and years of planning they're given, you know something in the Hollywood system is fundamentally broken.

It's like with the Halloween franchise. Halloween H2O which ignored Parts 3 through 6 had a great ending and they retconned it in Halloween resurrection, killed off the main character about 15 minutes in, and the rest was shit! However Halloween 2018 which was a direct sequel to the original did unquestionably better then Resurrection. So who knows? If dark fate is the Halloween resurrection of the series, there could be a Halloween 2018 in the franchise!
I don't like how this is the dark future that was essentially the goal of Social justice. Find the manliest stuff that men like, and then turn it into stupid preachy garbage.
@@casesoutherland4175 All Halloween sequels are crap except the original direct sequel, Halloween 2. 3 tried something new but failed and Michael Myers turned into a joke. With 2018 (nice name for a sequel...) I laughed at scenes that were meant to be taken seriously and just sighed when they tried to be funny. Myers as an old guy wasn't threatening at all. Hollywood should just leave these franchises alone. I liked Prometheus though, it was interesting side story/prequel and then Covenant fucked that up.

Seriously though, I know that they wanted a racial minority female to be the savior of humanity this time around, and that is perfectly fine with me, but having that be the case and having the character of John Connor retain all dignity is NOT "mutually exclusive". This is even possible if John is dead just so long as this new protagonist is his daughter. This is actually fully possible since the racial origin of Hispanics in the first place is that racially European men from The Iberian Pennindula reproduced with indigenous women from mainly Mesoamerica and The Andes Mountins, so, in an infinitely better explanation that what the hasbeen creator of this movie came up with, have it where John met and fell in love with an Aztec, Mayan, or Mixtec women, having the protagonist with her, until one day when she was six or seven, five fricken terminators show up and try to kill not him, but his daughter. The Mesoamerican mother manages to kill one with a javelin that she grabs off the wall under some metals before being killed, and John being mortally wounded while killing the other four, living just long enough to tell his daughter how, in a dead timeline, he was the warrior who led an army of the last humans against the machines that had killed nearly all other humans, and won, and for this reason, they sent machines to the past in order to kill him before he could ever oppose him, and yet, this very action made it so he, his mother, and a few others were able to prevent the apocalypse from ever occurring. Going on, he told her that the very fact that they tried to kill her could only mean that SHE was now the one to lead humanity's army, and the future thought averted was merely delayed by a few decades. In addition to preserving John's dignity, this also serves to make the new protagonist a much better character than what we got, as that kind of trauma before the age of ten, the pressure she feels at being humanity's savior, and the fear of more robots coming would leave her paranoid, an expert at hiding and sneaking around, and to have spent the last decade looting the corpses of those dead from The Mexican Drug War and using these weapons to train, becoming rather good, though not quite an expert, at guns, unforchunately also preventing her grandmother Sarah from finding her. This would have led to her being a much more interesting character from the get go, the heir to her father, and would have also made the interactions between her and her grandmother much more meaningful. Hollywood should hire me to fix their scripts for them.

The issue with Dark Fate's Arnie learning emotions and developing empathy goes back to T2. There's an entire scene in T2 explaining that the T-800's ability to think for itself and learn is hindered by its AI chip inside its skull, and John and Sarah literally had to cut his head open, pull out the chip, and shut him down in order to turn on his learning ability. So how in the hell did Dark Fate Arnie ever do that? Or even choose to do that? So the whole point of Skynet hindering a Terminator's ability to learn and empathize becomes moot.
Deleted scene. It's only in the extended version. It was a very well shot scene but I agree with the decision to remove it. It makes no sense to have a Terminator unable to learn certain things.
@@FutureDeep That's explained in that very scene. Skynet prevented them from leaning too much because they risked becoming self-aware and going rogue against Skynet beyond their intended programming. They could still attain basic information, but could never learn enough to go beyond their own programming. Makes perfect sense if you ask me, especially seeing as it's exactly what happens by the end of T2 where it developed its own moral compass. It learned the value of human life through John and chose to sacrifice itself to ensure that Skynet could never be created even going against John's orders despite being programmed to follow his command. Plus if all Terminators could just gradually learn on their own and form more human traits, it kinda goes against what was established of them in the original. Remember what Kyle said? "It can't be bargained with! It can't be reasoned with! It doesn't feel pity, fear, or remorse! And it absolutely will not stop, EVER! Until you are DEAD!" If anything, it makes more sense to keep that scene in, otherwise you'd have to assume its newfound learning capabilities was due to it being reprogrammed by John and not a default capability that all Terminators inherently possess.
@@chukyuniqul That could be easily explained by adult John and the Resistance not being able to predict what the Terminator would do once it was no longer bound by its programming and figured it would be safer if the Terminator would only pursue the Resistance's intended goal. What if the Terminator came to the conclusion that humans were an oppressive cancer that needed to be wiped out? You know, like in nearly the majority of movies about artificial intelligence? They were fortunate enough that young John taught it good human values.

i was pissed at this movie the second they killed john connor. that just basically said that all the movies we've seen and loved mean absolutely nothing. i have a hard time getting past that.
You’re hardly alone. What made it worse was that they clearly had nothing worth replacing it all with. It wasn’t “we have this other character who is so awesome that you’ll get over the loss of John Connor.” It was a grown adult who is less of a charismatic leader than the ten year old who died. Not to mention that it makes no sense. If they stopped Skynet, how did it send another T-800 back after being stopped? If they didn’t stop Skynet, why was Legion there instead in the future? But, plot holes like that take all of ten minutes to notice, which is more thought than the writers gave this script.
What makes it even worse is that they did nothing with it. It was like "O hi we killed this chosen one only to replace him with another chosen one whose only defining quality is that it's a girl." Bruh! Like NC said maybe it could have been interesting if it was just about Sarah and the Terminator dealing with John's death but nope, they had to insert another chosen one there.
I feel like Grace could’ve been fine without the medical issues if they made her like an emotional person or at least someone who can easily be flawed by her human qualities. After all, the terminators have amazing computing power so make her less robotic should have been enough.

I dont think they need to stop doing them but they need to stop repeating stuff or trying to capture t2's magic. Make the machines the good guys and the human target bad or even bad but willing to change. Make the machines less murdery and more 'they live-esque.' Make the machines take over human bodies, body snatcher style. Just something else involving machines coming back in time to avert something. There is alot to work with if theyd stop repeating themselves or undoing/redoing other films.

Hey, you want a full circle ending for the franchise? An alternative ending to Judgement Day. The terminator lives and John and Sarah go into hiding. Skynet keeps sending back terminators to kill him, but only find the hero terminator, who calls himself John Connor. He eventually leads the rebellion against skynet and wins the war. Because John Connor was always a terminator.
Awesome idea to wrap up a terrible (minus the amazing first 2 films) franchise.
It had exactly 0 chance of happening, though, because the purpose is not to make a good movie, but to milk a franchise dry. Both of the first 2 films could have wrapped up the series, but the bad movies (3 and every film after) left it open for more movies, because the goal for those films was to make money, not good movies.

It bugged me so much how Grace was so antagonistic towards Sarah for no reason other than to seem tough. Like come on, she saved both their lives, has experience killing terminators, and understands that Dani is the key to humanities victory over the machines so she'll protect her no matter what.
Except she's not the key because we JUST LEARNED no matter what you do, the future will not change. They can't stop it, everything is hopeless.

I kind of understand her antagonism, though. Sarah wants to kill the Rev 9, while Grace wants to run. And given that the Rev 9 doesn't take any damage until the final sequence, I'd say, yeah, wanting to stand and fight was pretty stupid. The only reason they manage to fight at all is because the movie makers make the rev 9 push main characters, rather than stab/cut like he does with everyone else.

Honestly the thing about Sarah thinking it was going to be Danni's kid, makes more sense when you consider she was a airhead waitress in the 80's and now she's beating the NSA. Her life got RUINED, and it wasn't even about her. It makes sense that she's bitter and that she thinks this poor kid is just collateral.
But it was about her because she raised him, John even states that his mom raised him to be a soldier. But I guess people have an issue with not being the center of attention. So no her assuming that it would be Danny’s son makes no sense.

Except that her being bitter that it's not her, doesn't really work here, although it does make a convenient segue into what would have been a better film. The whole thing was set up so that the leader of the resistance was a woman anyway, so why not just make it Sarah Conner? Hell, you could have her fall apart, be depressed and angry, then decide to get her revenge, finding new purpose by tracking down and killing the terminator that killed her son. You could even have the movie end with her surviving judgement day and being the one who leads the human resistance.
Besides, there's two big holes in this film with the t-800, established in previous films. 1) the t-800s learning computer is locked down and can only be reactivated by shutting him down and resetting his cpu, as shown in t-2) I hate that I'm calling back to t-3 as that movie sucked, but one of the things that it got right was that skynet would have had some sort of secondary mission for the t-800 once it completed its mission to kill John Conner., most likely to insure that nothing interfered with skynet's own creation.
There's a third hole, but that one goes back as least as far as t-3 and arguably even t-2, depending on how you wanna look at it, so I'll leave it alone for now.
I think it kinda makes sense considering the Terminator killed John and not her, that after all she's done she is not even considered as a threat by skynet. She's also must be really upset to have survived to her kid, so I can picture her thinking that way after all this years. But the excecution is not good, I don't see why Grace would not reveal that information to them (at first I though it was because she was in love with Daniella and it was just hard for her to reveal about the future, but no...)

5:39 actually the other films ARE still canon. You see, thanks to the existence of time travel, all the films in this franchise are simultaneously in the same continuity and different continuities. There’s actually a scene in the film that hints at this, when Grace states that Skynet doesn’t exist in her future. The implication is that there are multiple possible futures, the evidence for this being the fact that, despite Skynet not existing, the original T-800, manufactured by Skynet, DOES exist, which it couldn’t without Skynet. Coupled with the fact that, in Genisys, it was established that there are other timelines, this means that the ORIGINAL timeline does, in fact, still exist.
This sounds like a Kingdom Hearts plot

The Extended cut said it was set on said it was a read-only mode so they don't do too much thinking, which why the had to whole scene with them resting the switch. They eventually cut it because replaced it with the theatrical version because it gets the same idea across.
I think having John be replaced with just someone else who happens to be an ethnic female feels a bit pandering. What could be an idea is that Sarah rises to be the leader of the resistance. How is this the case? Bootstrap paradox (which kinda what John was). Why is there a new threat? Sarah went after the precursors to Skynet, not knowing about Legion. BOOM! Fixed
In terms of the real-world movie makers, I can't disagree, that was almost certain a calculated decision. But "in-universe," roughly half the population is female and the majority of the planet is "ethnic." Quite frankly, making the savior Caucasian is more pandering.

if Skynet knows there were terminators, he would instantly know 'time travel is possible', then it would devote way more resources into time travel, and gets it way faster.
then, there would be a terminator army sent back in time to kill the entire human race, rather than one John Connor.
so, what i think is, terminators do change the future, each terminator is actually sent by a different Skynet,
and each Skynet never knows there were terminators in the history, or doesn't even know time-travel could have worked.
instead, every Skynet does time-travel blindly, out of desperation, as a final struggle before gets destroyed by humans,
so every terminator always is under-prepared and working alone, because they don't know there are/were others to cooperate with.
this hopefully could explain all those sequels.

With Skynet and Judgment Day gone, so should John Connor. Because the time loop has ended. However, I do not think John getting killed by a Terminator made sense, because Terminators are the reason why John existed.
What would've been more sense is John disappearing and Sarah always seeing the visions of John here and there, talking to here. Sometimes she has visions of herself inside a padded cell. Sometimes she is being hunted by a lurking stalker. A psychological thriller. Then end it with her realizing by ending Judgment Day, she messed up the timeline. Should she cause Judgment Day to happen, sacrificing 3 billion lives so time would stop collapsing onto itself?

I love this idea. There are familiar elements in other science-romance movies, but highlighting the time-traveling aspect of this franchise could be feel nuance and authentic in the same time!

One part that I always found difficult to believe is that the terminator would start a family, I find it more likely that if the task was done it would just stand on the spot waiting for the next instructions.
Yeah, that seemed like a not-funny-at-all joke and a bullshit excuse to involve Arnold.
Well, it is an infiltration unit designed to mix with the crowd. It can learn to mimic human behavior, notice that a lot of people are married and old single dudes just standing places is considered suspicious, so he could learn the standard date algorithm, find a desperate woman and make a decoy family. Would he develop self awareness or compassion though? Doubt it.
A better idea could've been to have it do just that. Have it power down and go pretty much catatonic. Then have Sarah take the non-functioning chassis and put it into storage to study/keep from Cyberdyne. Then when Grace and Danni come alone, have Grace help her power it back up and then reprogram it to fight for them so they'll have a new drone. Eliminates the family element and gives Sarah and the Terminator more weight in the story.

When Grace told _Sarah Frickin' Connor,_ "I will fuck you up," she just came across as someone overcompensating for their own insecurities.
So, yeah, even without cybernetic enhancements, I'd say kid John Connor could be "more intimidating", in the sense that you knew he _is_ prepared to backup any threats he makes. He has the bite to match the bark.

Love the disgust of how they say “some man who saves humanity”, it’s like they don’t care if humanity is saved if it’s to be saved by a guy. Like it’s not important that humanity is saved, only the gender of the one who does. It also goes against Sarah’s character, considering she was so broken up about her boyfriend and son this entire time, and now she’s like “ew, men”.

Sarah Conner didn’t just give birth to the leader she raised that leader. Her role for the future was just as important as her son’s, John would be nothing of it weren’t for his mother who taught and raised him to be a soldier. In T2 even after she had given birth to John, her role in The story wasn’t finished, she needed to guide and protect John for the future. Even Skynet, a machine which doesn’t understand emotions and philosophy, knew she was still a threat. If the T-1000 fails to kill John then plan B was to kill Sarah, killing her means John losses the guidance he needs to become a leader. Wether Sarah or John dies, the leader is never born and Skynet still wins. Sarah Conner wasn’t a womb, she was a mother

No, it's exactly what I wanted to hear from a Terminator film - an acknowledgement that for all the hype about Sarah Connor as a strong female character, she doesn't matter. She's just a uterus to birth the man who does matter. As soon as she gives birth to John, nobody cares if she lives or die or what she does with her life - she has served her purpose. She's the Virgin Mary, and nobody cares about the Virgin Mary beyond her role as a babymama. And this motherhood obsession is in a lot of Cameron movies. He retconned Ripley to make her a mom and retconned the xenomorphs to give them a mom as well, after all.
So Dark Fate actually wrestling with that idea is one of the movie's good point.

Yeah me too. A future war movie was really the only place to go after T2 and they kept not doing it. T3 or Salvation would have been great beginnings to further future war movies, but I lost hope after they both failed to get sequels. During the production of Dark Fate, the producers said the movie was going to "finally give the fans what they've wanted since T2" and I seriously thought they meant it was finally time for a future war prequel type movie, since it's literally the only thing I've seen fans asking for since T2. Instead we got...a T2 reboot? I don't even.

This young boy (Danny) witnessed an assassination attempt on his father's life and even put himself in between his wounded father and the same woman with a gun pointed at his head. Then, he was ushered into a room by a slightly older kid to calm him down but never saw the robot arm nor hear the explanation about Skynet and the future. By the next morning Danny finds out his Dad was made to leave the house with the assassin and is now dead?! It's not like John could've filled him in on any of that information later because he is also dead (from the beginning of Dark Fate). There's no amount of explaining Danny's mother could do where he doesn't hate Sarah forever. From Danny's perspective, that wouldn't make sense. The only contact he would make would be to sabotage her.

As someone who has enjoyed a great deal of media where a character has an ability that figuratively or literally risks killing them when they use it, it did not come off as odd to me personally.
The terminator living in the cabin in this looks like a peek at what might have been if the T800 from the second movie was allowed to live.
These movies just ruin his sacrifice. As we now know, if he hadn't died, nothing would have changed. Well, except he probably would have stopped John from dieing from the Terminator sent back by the Skynet...that doesn't exist...anymore...

OMG, the Dyson's son thing would've worked SO well, like the supplying EMP for Sarah could've been him paying her back for sparing his father's life and the work they did before he died. That could've been such a great addition to this film!!
I actually saw a decent idea on a review of Dark Fate of instead of Arnold, it's John that Sarah goes to instead. This idea that they grew apart because John believed they had finished the fight and saved the future so they could relax and be a family again but Sarah could never let the idea that Skynet could never be stopped. Or maybe she'd spent so long preparing for Skynet and the apocalypse that the idea of it finally being over leaves her feeling empty and unable to be a normal mom. It kinda seemed neat in a 'What can a savior do, now that there's nothing needing saving?" kind of way.
They meet up again, John talks about the family he's made for himself, the normal life he's managed to live up to this point that Sarah never had. Like Sarah picks up a photo of John and his family and has to struggle not to cry.
Sarah: "Cute kid, what's his name?"
John: "I named him Kyle, I...may not have known my dad but at the very least I felt like I should honor him somehow. I felt like you'd approve too. I would have named him after...well you know, but he never had a name, did he?"
Sarah: "He didn't...but I think they'd both be proud of you if they saw you."
John: "Well...I had a great role model."
Sarah: "Yeah, that tin can was more of a father figure than anyone I ever tried to be with."
John: "You know that's not what I mean. I missed you Mom, it took me years to finally understand but I get why you couldn't go back to a normal life. Do I wish things could have been different? Of course I do. I wish you could have been there to see my graduate college, or there when I got married, or there when Kyle was born, but I know you've been lurking in the shadows protecting me from any possible threats. I just wish I could've been strong enough to take the reins and protect you and let you live your life."
Sarah: "Honey, I was a waitress at a two bit diner before I met your Dad. I didn't have much of a life before or after."
They reconnect after Sarah finds out that John still did his prep work too because she had drilled it into him so much and he still had those fears that Skynet may come back in some form too, he was just better at hiding it and tried harder to move on. John helps them fight the Rev-9 until he heroically sacrifices himself to save Dani, symbolically remaining humanity's savior just by passing the torch.
Is it perfect? No, but I just feel like it would have been different in a good way.
You must feel as frustrated as so many others that you can just casually come up with more creative and interesting ideas than Hollywood can put out with huge budgets.
Yea, not bad... I dig it, good angle, new concept for a story, less rehashing and most importantly... Doesn't crap all over the fans and one of the most beloved movies of all time.... GG

It's clear that the people writing these new entries (be it Terminator, Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who or whatever) have no clue what they're writing, are not fans of the franchises and have zero idea of what made them popular and successful to begin with.
When the fans can come up with better elevator pitches in 5 minutes for a franchise than all of the writers could with all of the months and years of planning they're given, you know something in the Hollywood system is fundamentally broken.

However Halloween 2018 which was a direct sequel to the original did unquestionably better then Resurrection. So who knows? If dark fate is the Halloween resurrection of the series, there could be a Halloween 2018 in the franchise!

With 2018 (nice name for a sequel...) I laughed at scenes that were meant to be taken seriously and just sighed when they tried to be funny. Myers as an old guy wasn't threatening at all. Hollywood should just leave these franchises alone. I liked Prometheus though, it was interesting side story/prequel and then Covenant fucked that up.

Seriously though, I know that they wanted a racial minority female to be the savior of humanity this time around, and that is perfectly fine with me, but having that be the case and having the character of John Connor retain all dignity is NOT "mutually exclusive". This is even possible if John is dead just so long as this new protagonist is his daughter. This is actually fully possible since the racial origin of Hispanics in the first place is that racially European men from The Iberian Pennindula reproduced with indigenous women from mainly Mesoamerica and The Andes Mountins, so, in an infinitely better explanation that what the hasbeen creator of this movie came up with, have it where John met and fell in love with an Aztec, Mayan, or Mixtec women, having the protagonist with her, until one day when she was six or seven, five fricken terminators show up and try to kill not him, but his daughter. The Mesoamerican mother manages to kill one with a javelin that she grabs off the wall under some metals before being killed, and John being mortally wounded while killing the other four, living just long enough to tell his daughter how, in a dead timeline, he was the warrior who led an army of the last humans against the machines that had killed nearly all other humans, and won, and for this reason, they sent machines to the past in order to kill him before he could ever oppose him, and yet, this very action made it so he, his mother, and a few others were able to prevent the apocalypse from ever occurring. Going on, he told her that the very fact that they tried to kill her could only mean that SHE was now the one to lead humanity's army, and the future thought averted was merely delayed by a few decades. In addition to preserving John's dignity, this also serves to make the new protagonist a much better character than what we got, as that kind of trauma before the age of ten, the pressure she feels at being humanity's savior, and the fear of more robots coming would leave her paranoid, an expert at hiding and sneaking around, and to have spent the last decade looting the corpses of those dead from The Mexican Drug War and using these weapons to train, becoming rather good, though not quite an expert, at guns, unforchunately also preventing her grandmother Sarah from finding her. This would have led to her being a much more interesting character from the get go, the heir to her father, and would have also made the interactions between her and her grandmother much more meaningful. Hollywood should hire me to fix their scripts for them.

Dune (1984)
The issue with Dark Fate's Arnie learning emotions and developing empathy goes back to T2. There's an entire scene in T2 explaining that the T-800's ability to think for itself and learn is hindered by its AI chip inside its skull, and John and Sarah literally had to cut his head open, pull out the chip, and shut him down in order to turn on his learning ability. So how in the hell did Dark Fate Arnie ever do that? Or even choose to do that? So the whole point of Skynet hindering a Terminator's ability to learn and empathize becomes moot.
Deleted scene. It's only in the extended version. It was a very well shot scene but I agree with the decision to remove it. It makes no sense to have a Terminator unable to learn certain things.

@@FutureDeep That's explained in that very scene. Skynet prevented them from leaning too much because they risked becoming self-aware and going rogue against Skynet beyond their intended programming. They could still attain basic information, but could never learn enough to go beyond their own programming. Makes perfect sense if you ask me, especially seeing as it's exactly what happens by the end of T2 where it developed its own moral compass. It learned the value of human life through John and chose to sacrifice itself to ensure that Skynet could never be created even going against John's orders despite being programmed to follow his command. Plus if all Terminators could just gradually learn on their own and form more human traits, it kinda goes against what was established of them in the original. Remember what Kyle said? "It can't be bargained with! It can't be reasoned with! It doesn't feel pity, fear, or remorse! And it absolutely will not stop, EVER! Until you are DEAD!" If anything, it makes more sense to keep that scene in, otherwise you'd have to assume its newfound learning capabilities was due to it being reprogrammed by John and not a default capability that all Terminators inherently possess.
@@chukyuniqul That could be easily explained by adult John and the Resistance not being able to predict what the Terminator would do once it was no longer bound by its programming and figured it would be safer if the Terminator would only pursue the Resistance's intended goal. What if the Terminator came to the conclusion that humans were an oppressive cancer that needed to be wiped out? You know, like in nearly the majority of movies about artificial intelligence? They were fortunate enough that young John taught it good human values.
@@windowsVD oh come on, that plot point was hackneyed even back in the 90s. The only explanation is that since the timeline can not be changed in t1 and 2 connor knew he would have to do that himself as a child to...idk, see how the 'nators innards work.
i was pissed at this movie the second they killed john connor. that just basically said that all the movies we've seen and loved mean absolutely nothing. i have a hard time getting past that.
You’re hardly alone. What made it worse was that they clearly had nothing worth replacing it all with. It wasn’t “we have this other character who is so awesome that you’ll get over the loss of John Connor.” It was a grown adult who is less of a charismatic leader than the ten year old who died.
Not to mention that it makes no sense. If they stopped Skynet, how did it send another T-800 back after being stopped? If they didn’t stop Skynet, why was Legion there instead in the future?
But, plot holes like that take all of ten minutes to notice, which is more thought than the writers gave this script.

What makes it even worse is that they did nothing with it. It was like "O hi we killed this chosen one only to replace him with another chosen one whose only defining quality is that it's a girl." Bruh! Like NC said maybe it could have been interesting if it was just about Sarah and the Terminator dealing with John's death but nope, they had to insert another chosen one there.
I feel like Grace could’ve been fine without the medical issues if they made her like an emotional person or at least someone who can easily be flawed by her human qualities. After all, the terminators have amazing computing power so make her less robotic should have been enough.
