I didn’t hate this movie, I loved to be fair the terminator sponsored Wrestlemania Hhh had a terminator entrance and terminator got included in wwe2k16
Terminator Genisys could've been about a Civil War after Skynet's destruction. One side wants to use the time machine to stop Judgment Day from happening led by a self aware/suicidal T-1000, while the opposing side prefer to leave the things as it is, led by Connor's descendants. This conflict led to time travels which messed up the time line as they discovered for Skynet to not exist, neither would John Connor.
Personally I'd like to see a story in the future where a terminator is reprogrammed and becomes self aware and learns Skynet is arguably worse for machine kind and decides to from it's own resistance reprogramming other terminators to make them want to fight for it's cause. Not exactly a perfect idea but it's better than Genisys
@@NoBop2000 THIS is the thing I have been DYING to see in a Terminator movie! Ever since T2 (MAAAANNNNN I LOVE THAT MOVIE! 😍💖😁) I've been wondering just HOW the human resistance managed to get T-800 Series 101 Terminators on THEIR side and I've NEVER been shown that from ANY of the Terminator movies, a fact made just INEXCUSABLE due to them now having shown us the war TWICE in the franchise! No, INSTEAD they would rather give us a Terminator film with no Arnold and then THIS crap where the "savior of mankind" that we were told to ALWAYS root for is made THE F-ING VILLAIN!? Haven't even seen Dark Fate yet nor do I care to...apparently Hollywood no longer gives a flying f@$# about the Terminator franchise so why should I? T3 was the LAST halfway decent film in the franchise and IT was essentially T2-lite. Once you've done a cut-down version of your best film, you've already run out of ideas. Time to throw it in unless you're actually WILLING to hear of some good ones...like PATCHING UP THE BIGGEST F-ING PLOT HOLE IN THE ENTIRE SERIES!!!! 😡😡😡😡
@@christopheralthouse6378 a lot of people got upset with Dark Fate, but I honestly thought it was a decent, not as good but decent, Terminator sequel to T2. It made more sense canonically.
Yeah for real. I liked Salvation but it should have been SO MUCH MORE. I think they were building to sequels that would take place later in time and have the lasers and everything, but of course we never got there.
It's actually normal for doctors to have idle chat while working on someone. For example, I was getting stitches after a bicycle accident (crashed into a crash barrier) and I heard the doctors talking while working on me. They said: -So what are you doing on your vacation? -I don't know. Probably traveling. -What do you mean, "traveling"? -Well I was thinking of going to Las Vegas...
Yeah the nurses that help my Mom on Dialysis talk like this all the time with each other or with their patients. I think the idle chatter is a discreet way of keeping patients calm. Or they they just like chatting. Or both.
@@AMPMASTER10 For me when I was in the hospital for unknown pains (later diagnosed as severe muscle spasms) it was actually really calming and relaxing just talking and or hearing the doctors talk. It made the experience less stressful
Yeah, it's weird how routinely they talk during surgery and stuff. I remember when I injured my knee really badly, they had to put a bunch of stitches on it, and the dude just kept chatting with me. I get it that chatting helps distract the patient and all, but it was still pretty awkward
Hell, they had idle chat with ME while working on me. I was fully conscious, numbed up, and had my back cut open getting a lump cut out of it while they were asking me about what I did for work.
also the joke in the scene is, that she never heard him say this 1-liner, so she reacts confused, which doesn't make the line badass, but at least makes it a halfway clever meta joke.
Fun fact: Approximately 90% of the sequences take place at night. The first 50+ minutes of the movie take place during the night. Bonus Fact: Arnold Schwarzenegger has approximately 30 minutes of screen time in this movie.
"god damn time travellin robot, coverin up their god damn tracks, I knew it..!" The theater broke out in laughter at that line more than any part of the film.
No different than when he claimed he had these great ideas for a new trilogy when he got the rights to Terminator back, only to not only have nothing to do with directing Dark Fate but having nothing to do with writing Dark Fate and instead having like 10 different people writing the story......The idea for the story wasn't terrible, but then again I don't hate the wamanz, but when you have that many people writing and rewriting a story over and over again your going to end up with a mess
@@lutherheggs451 Actually Cameron ghost wrote most of DF and edited the film to his tastes. In fact he had more to do with DF than people like to admit.
It's still hard to believe that *James Cameron* of all people considers *THIS* the true part 3 of the series. I don't give a s- what people say about Dark Fate, Genysis will always be the worst.
@@sebastianemond5313 Except Cameron doesn't. He said after this film that Arnold asked him to praise it since they're personal friends. Cameron later went on record saying this and T3 were the worst in his mind.
But the point is he's always pegged for playing the villain. It'd be like casting The Rock in a movie; and trying to make us think he's the villain, just because he's played the villain a couple of times out of 100+ movies. I love Jason Clarke, he's a criminally underrated actor; but this wasn't subtle. It's like slapping someone across the face in front of an audience, and then trying to tell them you didn't actually slap anyone.
I call the fifth terminator movie what sega would call it...."terminator 06" ...because sonic 06 was the 5th game and it sucked and it involved timetravel and the main character having an inappropriate romance.
10:40 "Not gonna lie, having it be the psychiatrist now totally buying Judgement day is real might have been the only clever callback these bad sequels might have had." The Critic _really_ needs to watch _The Sarah Connor Chronicles._
I could tell he never saw The Sarah Connor Chronicles when he got to the part where Sarah arrives on a freeway after time traveling and he never mentioned that is straight out of that show. Not only that, but the fact that Sarah arrives on a freeway after time traveling from the past into an alternate future where Judgement Day had been postponed was also straight out of that show. As well as Sarah being played by Emilia Clarke while Sarah in The Sarah Connor Chronicles was played by a pre Game of Thrones Lena Headey.
Am I the only one that would rather have a movie about Sarah growing up with The Terminator as her guardian? Than have the next movie with them meeting Kyle Reese with a better script and plan.
Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles did a very very similar premise except it was john growing up with a T900 and Sarah connor. Was great but got canned before the show finished
Completely agreed on Lee Byung-hun as T-1000 (8:34). His performance really reminds me of Robert Patrick, he got that similar creepy aura. But yeah, too bad they failed to utilize the guy. What a fucking waste. They could have done some truly interesting stuff with him too because T-1000 as a model is really fascinating, as said in the Wiki: "The molecular brain grants the T-1000 advanced reasoning capabilities, emotions such as humor, and even self-awareness. As a result, a T-1000 can make its own decisions contrary to that of Skynet. In order to protect itself from its own creation, Skynet did not mass produce the T-1000."
Marketing messed up big time, I recall seeing posters of the reveal, sure there was even a trailer that gave a reveal. Really I can't figure out why the damm hate on Connor or desire to pull off such a stupid twist for the sake of a shock that won't go down as memorable but just stupid..
Yup, just like marketing spoiled the twist of Arnie being the good-guy in T2 when it was obviously carefully set up as a surprise that would blow the audience's minds when they found out. Not sure which is worse but... Take the Statue Of Liberty off the COVER of the original Planet Of The Apes DVD please someone!
@@MandleRoss here's the difference though, you could have avoided the t2 "good terminator" spoiler by not watching the trailer, but with genisys there was no avoiding the john connor spoiler unless you were blindfolded all the way to your seat or got the dvd/blu-ray secondhand with the cover removed Edit: or if you saw the movie on tv, but at that point someone would have spoiled it anyway given how long it takes for a theatrically released movie to be syndicated on television
@@HunterX05 I saw it at the movie theater when it first came out. The trailer for it played in front of pretty much every movie I had already seen that year. There was no indication in the trailer that it was spoiling a major twist in the film. We just assumed that it would be obvious from the get-go that Arnie was the good guy or, you know, they wouldn't be mentioning it IN THE TRAILER LOL. And there was no internet or anything where we could see a warning like "DO NOT WATCH THE T2 TRAILER!". Then, when I saw the movie I realized that it was supposed to be a big surprise because of the way it was set up. Luckily it's pretty early in the film and didn't spoil the enjoyment of it but I do remember feeling cheated a bit.
The director actually HATED this due to marketing spoiling it purely because they didn't think people believed that Genisys wasn't a remake, so they threw the twist in the trailers to hammer the point in as much as possible.
I like to think Chester isn't homeless he just finds its best to save every cent of his money by living in the critics kitchen Chester is secretly a millionaire
Here's what I gathered: the old Arnold is from the first 4 movies' timeline (where humans won the war, but the machines went further back when Sarah is younger, also the T-3000 virus was made), Kyle is from a timeline where everything played out like it was supposed to except the John becoming a machine thing, and Sarah is in what I call the Gynesis timeline. I think Evil John's plan was to turn everyone into T-3000s
Can't they find someone who looks like Micharl Biehn to play Kyle Reese? Sebastian Stan and Aaron Paul at least look like him. Captain Boomerang looks way too different. At least some shots of Emilia Clark looked like Linda Hamilton.
LOL 🤣 they are smart actors who knew to stay away from this giant turd.. jai courtney is the kind of average stock actor who will take whatever he can get or he'll do anything he's given.
And have his character seem and look like he had fought against the Terminators his whole life, and was mentally scared from it like Micharl Biehns version was. This version just looks uninterested and too well adjusted for someone who has been through hell.
Yes she is obviously miscast but you can't really blame her...I saw her receiving a lot of flak in this movie, which she doesn't deserve...she did everthing she can to do justice to the role
Does she need to have that look? She also isn’t a mother so doesn’t have as much drive to protect someone else as Hamilton had in the second film. Clarke is playing alternative timeline version of the character and closer to the first films character.
On one hand, neither did Linda Hamilton in the first movie, if we be honest here. On the other hand, she was just a waitress back then, not raised by a terminator since childhood.
She just looks too young, as Doug said. And my main problem is that this was just blatant "flavour of the month"-casting because of Game of Thrones, and I hate when that happens. Just like how 10 years ago for some reason they just had to cast Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway in everything, wether they fit the roles or not.
Honestly turning John Conner into the villain could have been great twist if they just had better writing, directing and maybe not cast a actor know for being a antagonist.
Out of all your Terminator month reviews, this one is probably my favorite. I was curious as to why this movie is so reviled because only saw a snippet of the film while I was at the dentist once. After watching your reviews, it’s really easy to see where everyone is coming from. (BTW, that snippet did include Arnold holding the giant teddy bear.)
I remember it amounting to a huge plot twist that literally rewrote the franchise into a Multiverse and everyone proceeding to ignore that point when reviewing the movie.
My response to the franchise at this point can best be summarized with a quote from The Expendables 2. "I'm almost out. I'll be back." "You've been back enough. I'LL be back."
Lee Byung-Hun was the best part of this movie imo. He really gives a neat rendition of the T-1000 we're all familiar with, while giving something fresh for the little time he has. I could almost say the same for J.K. Simmons if he was officially playing Silberman as I'm confident enough of us assumed he was at first.
One has to think that there was one version of the script, at one point or another, that had JK Simmons' character be Dr Silberman, but that they changed it for some lame reason, to make him empathize with Kyle and Sarah for saving his life as a young cop. That's the only explanation I see. But man, what a missed opportunity.
Yea I'm actually surprised it got as much as hate as it did, I would say it's a better movie than Terminator 3, which although wasn't liked as much as T1 or T2 was overall pretty solid. I especially love the scene when Sarah sees all the pictures Pops drew of them together in the bunker.
Chester should be in more videos, like he can come in and say things like "hey, you wouldnt believe what i found in the dumpster when i was looking for a snack, you should review this."
I like the way he has gone back to his roots of just him reviewing no shitty cameo off other people and sitting in front of a yellow or cream colured background
It's because of COVID. He couldn't be in the studio, and the only other person who could help him out was Rob. Tamara, Malcolm and the others could only appear in sketches through video calls.
18:43 My mom, who used to fly in helicopters in the military, says that, if a helicopter is moving fast enough, depending on the helicopter, it's *possible* a helicopter can do that. But neither of us are experts, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
The saddest part is they had Matt Smith (the 11th Doctor) as the physical avatar of SKYNET and they WASTED him by literally only giving him like 5 minutes of screentime PS: What a damn missed opportunity to introduce stuff from outside the films like the T-Infinity. They could have just made it so that IT was what reset the timeline
I imagine this movie killed his Hollywood career. He's a great actor and had a chance to take off like Karen Gillian, his Doctor Who costar. If I'm not mistaken he's stuck mostly to UK productions since or doctor who related cameos (like in the Lego movie) though I think he's in the upcoming don't spiderverse movie morbid so I'm interested in seeing how that works out
@@tycol322 same happened to him Star Wars. He was originally meant to be the villain of Rise of Skywalker for a large portion of the production time, but because they had NO PLAN he got shafted for a revived Palpatine
@@filipvadas7602 was he in those movies? I may hate the second and find the third a boring piece of crap that failed to deliver on anything, but I would've thought I'd noticed Matt Smith.
@@Japaneseanimeguy no he didn't show up at all and ,from multiple reports, its safe to say that was kinda Ryan Johnson's fault. JJ Abrams created a rough draft of the trilogy in where Matt Smith ended up being cast as the real villain But because Ryan decided to literally to throw out that script and just do his own thing it became impossible to bring Matt in because , obviously, introducing the real main villain in the LAST MOVIE of a trilogy was a crappy move. Mind you they had to do that with Palpatine anyway, but the difference is that Palpatine is a fan favorite whereas Matt's character was supposed to be someone COMPLETELY new.
I don’t know what’s worse. High up suits green lighting production on this script because they’re so out of touch they actually had faith in it or if they were just cashing in on the fandom. Almost certainly the latter for everyone involved.
I legitimately wonder if the amount of Chinese investment in these franchise reboots and sequels has anything to do with how terrible they are. As if the poor quality is engineered to de-popularize or otherwise tarnish classic American IP.
I don't know - given a pitch script, you or I might look at and figure it could be good. I bet a lot of these movies die slow deaths in production issues and rewrites. The original idea for the movie probably looked great.
@@12ealDealOfficial I have zero idea how you came to conclusion that Chinese somehow have to do with Terminator movies being shitty. They are shitty, because someone owns IP and decided to cash-in on the series IP. Every Terminator movie after T2 was made with no vision on how to continue the story, they just made them because some dude or company owned IP. Same with some other series like Alien, Predator or Texas Chainsaw, it's just pure cash-in, not any artistic vision for the series.
@@J.J.Jameson_of_Daily_Bugle It does sound farfetched, though "soft power" is a real thing. "Soft power" is derived from media and entertainment, manifested in the public perception of a nation. A national identity is also derived, in large part, from its media and entertainment. If the Chinese have been waging an economic war for decades, why not a cultural one? The theory may seem outlandish when you only look at the conclusion, but I believe enough evidence is there to support it. Enough for a comment or a paper at my university, anyway. ... But that's just a theory.
You're a braver man than most, NC, for none would dare confront all post T2 films back to back like this... Your name will live on forever in song and your legend will be forever retold...
"Who should we get to play Sarah Connor? I mean, she's gonna be all trained and militant now, so we've gotta cast like Linda Hamilton being all ripped in T2... I know! That five foot dragon chick who looks like she couldn't even do a pull up! That'll work!"
@@silverblade357🤣 I know right. I think they were thinking messiah-Sarah connor rather than paramilitary-run- and- gun Sarah connor... So they went to kahleesi.
@@silverblade357 Even worse, we'll have the new actress hold her entire body weight with one hand while holding a 220lb Australian actor with her other arm.
So J. Jonah Jameson became a police officer to get some pictures of Spider-Man. BTW, who else is thinking of a crossover between Spider-Man and the Terminator?
You gotta know that even though it's not Spiderman but there has to be a story where Sarah died to the T-1000 so John and the T-800 went forward, stopped Judgement Day to respect her wishes and John renamed the T-800 Alfred and became Batman.
All we really need is T-2. Nothing against the first one, but T-2 is such a cinematic masterpiece that it makes the original inferior by sheer comparison.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing a Terminator, or any sci-fi film, from the perspective of someone like the cop JK Simmons played. He has a chance encounter with a time traveller, then decades later, he comes back.
@@retropcgamer Yeah, you can see him for like one second sitting in the hospital waiting room. It's the shot where Arnold and the bad guy throw each other through the wall. There's also a Robert Patrick cameo in the Terminator Resistance video game from last year. You find the body of a resistance soldier in a Skynet experimentation facility on a table and it's him, implying that it's where Skynet got the look for the T1000.
Yh both me and my dad laughed because his look was like 'you call this time travel?' Lol. I liked this film honestly, I thought it was funny and a good laugh to watch.
I was tripping balls the first time I saw Terminator Genisys. I started laughing at this version of John Connor because I thought he looked like Eric Stoltz from Mask.
Yeah, its like me when the first GODZILLA movie i saw was the 1998 GODZILLA and thinking it was one of the greatest GODZILLA movie i ever saw. Thank God my best friend introduce me to the old GODZILLA movie.
Having Jason Clarke and twist of him being the bad guy is like having Sean Bean and having twist that his character dies within first half an hour of the movie.
@@mateuszmarciniak2828 It's really bad and it's gotten to a point where there's new Star Wars, or Alien, or Terminator movie and we don't give a shit because of how bad franchises have become.
I'm waiting for the terminator movie where it turns out the leader of the resistance is really a self aware terminator fighting against Skynet led by a Terminator that used to be human. And the true humanity is what we find in our terminators along the way.
"I won't be back" was the only line I felt something else than irritation watching Dark Fate. That was probably the last time we saw Arnold as a Terminator
Maybe it's best to put the Terminator movies to rest, he can have a comeback in some form of media like an animated spinoff of sorts or something. The movies on the other hand seemed to have run their course, they're like beating it into the ground at this point.
1:14 it’s like they put in some questionable Sources from random critics and fake news for Pinocchio remake on Disney Plus and random critics say “This is the best movie ever from Robert Zemeckis since Who Framed Roger Rabbit” I would never believe them and it’s pointless and there’s fake CGI EVERYWHERE Instead of old school practical effects and old school animation, or Jurassic World Dominion and called it “The first movie in the franchise to make a comeback!” and ”The only best Jurassic world movie since Jurassic Park!” and I WILL STILL NEVER BELIEVE THEM!!!! And JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION IS EXTREMELY POINTLESS since the the first two Jurassic World Movies and Jurassic Park 2 & 3!!!!!
0:54 I disagree Terminator Dark Fate is by far the worst one at least Genisys has an interesting concept that if given to people that gave a damn might have been ok Dark Fate from the get go is trash. Killing the main character 3 mins in and replacing John with someone else. Everything is just down hill from there Dark Fate is the how to kill a franchise Speedrun World Record Holder one of the worst films not named Ghostbusters 2016 there's a special place in hell for that one
Fun fact: during the hospital fight Pops and John bust through a waitingroom wall and one of the patients in there is Robert Patrick, who played the original T-1000 in Judgement Day.
@@seanb.6793 they actually offered Patrick the chance to reprise his role as the T-1000, but he turned it down as he was, by his own admission, too old and out of shape to play in an action role. So they gave him a cameo and put Lee Byung-hun in his stead.
3:22 : "Of course, John isn't dead..." Yea man. Imagine a Terminator movie that kills of John Connor early into the movie. GOD how stupid would THAT be?! That would be even worse than THIS movie!
I honestly can't see how Nostalgia Critic is calling Terminator: Genisys the worst movie in the franchise when Dark Fate blew the franchises head off with a shotgun an then buried under cement 6 feet under really killing the franchise with social justice and feminist pandering. Dark Fate is WAY worst than Terminator 3, Salvation and Genisys combined.
When the plot detaols for DF got leaked, I was actually totally up for the idea! Just like the Critic, I am honestly sick of every Terminator sequel trying to redo the first two movies in a slightly different way. Even Salvation does that, only without time travel. So yeah, I was looking up for a Terminator movie without John Connor and Skynet, it HAD to be something completely new and original. ... and then Dark Fate was exactly the same old and tiring retread, just changing the names and plot elements involved.
@@yrenekurtz5268 Did you even watch Salvation it wasn't trying to be like T1 an T2 at all, it was all about the early years of the future war. Salvation was unique. As for Terminator: Genisys it goes about the whole Multiverse Theory time travel like Trunks from Dragon Ball Z where they get to do some 'what If' plotlines which was also different from the franchise.
One thing I do really like is that single moment where John just says "hi, mom" His voice, his face, her face, the tone of the room; it all makes this one of the moments that make me both happy and sad I mean imagine being in John's shoes: seeing a beloved family member or friend of yours in the flesh at a young age in the past before their death Had the rest of the movie been this nice, it wouldn't be the worst one
"I'm sick of hearing Judgment Day, I'm sick of seeing John Connor, I'm sick of being told timelines can or can't be changed." Then you gonna love seeing Dark Fate. :v
it's funny cause this is the movie that almost got me back into the theaters to watch a terminator movie again in almost a decade but I took the cautious route and waited for reviews and boy am I glad I did also that Jk Simmons line was freaking hilarious
I remember watching this movie in the theater and seeing Arnold be like “I’m just here to collect a paycheck”, but then at one point something clicked in him and I saw it in his eyes where he was like “come with me if you want to live...through this shit.”
Interesting that in Game of Thrones, Cersei was threatened that she'll be replaced by Daenerys. Lena Headey was Sarah Connor in the TV series Terninator: The Sarah Connor chronicles and Emilia Clarke is Sarah Connor in this movie.
To be honest I think that's not down to her and more her agent has talked her into jumping into big franchises like Terminator and Star Wars and she's ended up having to play characters with no depth for her to explore.
@@Deathlygunn I mean thats true, but she has also done these romance movies, and they have all been terrible. Not once has she done something good that would make people think she is a great actress if they have never seen GoT

This was honestly my first Terminator movie. I remember watching on my mum's couch and just being confused. Then ranting for a solid ten minutes about how nothing in this movie made sense. I only stopped because I was clearly giving her a headache. Hell, this movie was so bad that it made me put off seeing the first two movies for years.
A lot of talk about how it's obvious that Connor is the bad guy without mentioning that it was given away in every trailer and even on the poster. Doug didn't see it from the actor, he was just remembering the box art.
1:08 Eh, Game of Thrones Season 2 was actually one of the great seasons of the show. Mind you of course, that was because they had the books to follow and weren’t making it up as they went along like the final seasons.
The joke went over your head but he was saying great when he showed Thor: The Dark World and horrible when he showed Got Season 2, so he mixed the images up on purpose and meant the opposite.
@@MUSICLOVER23429 Season 5 the lack of anything meaningful with Dorne was annoying, but mostly it was a little too predictable. Season 6 was amazing to me. Season 7 was rushed fan service, lacking in depth and substance. Season 8 was definitely a dumpster fire from The Dark Night onward especially. I still love seasons 1-6 and until the books are finished I definitely plan to rewatch them. The only live action shows I've seen that really match up are Dexter and Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. I will never know how Dexter was so consistently good for 8 12 episode seasons.
@Kryptoskillet Dark Fate was god awful, but at least it was grittier, the story was less complicated, and also had Linda Hamilton back and Arnold giving a solid performance. But aside from that, still awful.
I waa so pissed off with the T-1000 in this. Yes Robert Patrick is the definitive T-1000 but they had an opportunity with this one. You had Storm Shadow as the T-1000, he can be a legit threat and be a great villian AAAAAAND he's gone.
Yep I wish the entire movie is set in the 1980s with a few flash forwards, like Days of Future Past. T1000 could be the main villain, and the reveal of Connor as a Terminator could serve as a twist ending.
Emilia Clarke as Sarah was okay, but Jai Courtney as Kyle was a big "no" for me. Nothing to do with his acting, I just thought he was miscast - Michael Biehn was more lean and wiry, from a future where you had to struggle to find food and were lucky if you found a rat to eat, while Jai Courtney looked buff and well fed.
I often hear so many people say they liked this one, and I have the perfect reason why: because they overload it with Ah-nold. After the first two films, Arnold was always the selling point. People didn’t care about John Connor, stopping the machines, or any of that nuclear annihilation stuff Cameron was concerned about...the series just evolved into the “comfort food” of seeing Arnold. And this film, that’s all I ever hear anyone talk about was “he was good in this.” Well of course, given he’s recreating the “father-figure” stance from T2 with Sarah who is so mentally messed up that she freaks out at the mere thought of losing her robo-papa. Plus, the filmmakers give Arnold almost all the answers, but feel they’re being like “Lost” by never giving us answers, because they figure they can get away with anything by not explaining stuff. ...like just how powerful Skynet is. If Skynet in the future can “infect” humans like John and either kill them or turn them into slaves to the machine, just “infect” a whole bunch of humans, set them out into the world lookong for encampments, and infect/kill, and you’ll win the war soon enough Skynet killed everyone except John in that time chamber after Kyle was sent back, it can’t be that hard!! And yeah, Dark Fate is the film that we just don’t care about anymore because it has gone on too long, but the character of Grace I feel was a decent way to do something different with the Kyle Reese character.
I love the start, showing the end of the war. Wish this had been the focus of the movie instead another time travel movie. Aside from that Matt Smith was pretty cool as Gensys / skynet
4:37 While long and complicated, this is literally a callback to Terminator 1 as it is literally the speech Kyle says he had to memorize and told Sarah after they escaped the police station.
True, though in the first movie it was implied that John Connor gave the message to Kyle in advance with enough time to actually memorize it, not as a last-minute, spur-of-the-moment "well, since you asked, here's this speech I happen to have" message.
I'd love to see your views on The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Interestingly, Geinsys borrows a couple of elements from it: Sarah Connor, played by someone who was amazing in Game of Thrones (although this was before Game of Thrones), deciding to travel into the future to stop Skynet before it was built and ending up naked on a highway. A few major differences - Lena Headey was a brilliant Sarah Connor, she had the "powerful" look about her. - The Time Machine was built by the resistance as a way for them to get back to the future, so makes more sense than Sarah and Arnie making one. - It followed Sarah and John after Terminator 2. So the first two films still happened, but T3 is erased. - No collision that would have caused serious injury. Instead, where they appeared served a plot point as it was presumed to be a prank and was shown on local news, being spotted by an FBI agent that was pursuing Sarah and John for the murder of Dyson.

One side wants to use the time machine to stop Judgment Day from happening led by a self aware/suicidal T-1000, while the opposing side prefer to leave the things as it is, led by Connor's descendants. This conflict led to time travels which messed up the time line as they discovered for Skynet to not exist, neither would John Connor.
why does fans always come up with a better storyline for terminator movies than an ACTUAL PAID writers? sigh. your idea is amazing tho
So a kind of darker, grittier version of Star Trek Enterprise's Temporal Cold War?
That ... actually yea, that would be an amazing story.

Hell, they had idle chat with ME while working on me. I was fully conscious, numbed up, and had my back cut open getting a lump cut out of it while they were asking me about what I did for work.

@@MandleRoss here's the difference though, you could have avoided the t2 "good terminator" spoiler by not watching the trailer, but with genisys there was no avoiding the john connor spoiler unless you were blindfolded all the way to your seat or got the dvd/blu-ray secondhand with the cover removed
Edit: or if you saw the movie on tv, but at that point someone would have spoiled it anyway given how long it takes for a theatrically released movie to be syndicated on television
I would have gone with Sebastian Stan to play adult Kyle Reese, for sure. Got a lot of Kyle vibes from The Winter Soldier.
Jai courtney looks like someone that got rejected from Magic Mike's not a resistance fighter from the future the rest of the casting seems fine
And have his character seem and look like he had fought against the Terminators his whole life, and was mentally scared from it like Micharl Biehns version was. This version just looks uninterested and too well adjusted for someone who has been through hell.
Emilia Clarke is gonna have my kids someday
Emilia Clarke just doesn't have the "shatter blocks of concrete with your bare hands" look that Linda Hamilton does.
Yes she is obviously miscast but you can't really blame her...I saw her receiving a lot of flak in this movie, which she doesn't deserve...she did everthing she can to do justice to the role
Still much better than "THE Deus-Ex-Machina-Dani" from the next one.

Terminators are a menace to society!

Maybe it's best to put the Terminator movies to rest, he can have a comeback in some form of media like an animated spinoff of sorts or something. The movies on the other hand seemed to have run their course, they're like beating it into the ground at this point.
+"How do we make people get back into the franchise?"
-"I know! Lets make it so the best two movies never happened!"
+"Do you eat play-doh?"
This Father’s Day, I’m going to apologize to my dad for asking him to take me to see this movie. I’m sure he knew ahead of time it was gonna be bad.
Too bad they didn't use him for more than a cameo. He did such an awesome job in T2.
@@seanb.6793 they actually offered Patrick the chance to reprise his role as the T-1000, but he turned it down as he was, by his own admission, too old and out of shape to play in an action role. So they gave him a cameo and put Lee Byung-hun in his stead.
@@pyronuke4768 I can respect his choice.
3:22 : "Of course, John isn't dead..."
Yea man. Imagine a Terminator movie that kills of John Connor early into the movie. GOD how stupid would THAT be?! That would be even worse than THIS movie!
Glad they didn’t do that in the franchise. Would’ve been a dark fate for the franchise
I see what you did there. 😊
I had a laugh at: "What do we want? Time travel! When do we want it? Irrelevant!" 😄
One thing I do really like is that single moment where John just says "hi, mom"
His voice, his face, her face, the tone of the room; it all makes this one of the moments that make me both happy and sad
I mean imagine being in John's shoes: seeing a beloved family member or friend of yours in the flesh at a young age in the past before their death
Had the rest of the movie been this nice, it wouldn't be the worst one
8:25 It's like finding out who Huey, Dewey and Louie's mom is, but never their dad.
You should cover The Sarah Connor Chronicles too.
Yes!!!
Agreed... but March is over 😞
"I'm sick of hearing Judgment Day, I'm sick of seeing John Connor, I'm sick of being told timelines can or can't be changed."
Then you gonna love seeing Dark Fate. :v
At the scene where arnold was talking too much, I kinda wish you would have shown the clip of arnold screaming "Shut up" XD
it's funny cause this is the movie that almost got me back into the theaters to watch a terminator movie again in almost a decade but I took the cautious route and waited for reviews and boy am I glad I did also that Jk Simmons line was freaking hilarious
15:43 so I didn't imagine Matt Smith there at the beginning of the review, that really was him
This might be controversial but outside of Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke hasn't shown she is a good actress
To be honest I think that's not down to her and more her agent has talked her into jumping into big franchises like Terminator and Star Wars and she's ended up having to play characters with no depth for her to explore.
See best of me.
@@Deathlygunn I mean thats true, but she has also done these romance movies, and they have all been terrible. Not once has she done something good that would make people think she is a great actress if they have never seen GoT
@@MrBoyYankee Nicholas Sparks film she wasn't in?
9:25 And yet, James Gunn's return to Disney is the one that everyone remembers and praises.
13:38 that's actually common, and does not mean they will make mistakes, and how could he? he's using surgical staples, the only way you can make a mistake with those is if you wanted to make a mistake, also, he's not doing open heart surgery is just closing up a wound, not every medical procedure requires laser focus.
I think "March of the Terminators" is a better name, and easier to say.
Wouldn't that mean he'd have to impersonate Morgan Freeman during the whole review?
"Genisys is the worst"
Dark fate : "let me introduce myself"
Dark fate is much better than this train wreck
@@hardware64 yeah... if youre high as a kite and have an iq of 3. I honestly wish Geneysis had been the pseudo finale to this franchise. as bad as it is at least it would have gone out with a whimper and not a REEEE!!!
@@k-trashradio5163 nah Dark fate is better
@@k-trashradio5163 at least you can say the series concluded with a mediocre movie instead of this pile of garbage.
Dear Hollywood, NO MORE TERMINATOR MOVIES.
Hollywood: You see Mr. Swartzineger I told you becoming a Republican would ruin your acting talent.
18:19 That Christian bale soundbite killed me
1:08 Eh, Game of Thrones Season 2 was actually one of the great seasons of the show. Mind you of course, that was because they had the books to follow and weren’t making it up as they went along like the final seasons.
The joke went over your head but he was saying great when he showed Thor: The Dark World and horrible when he showed Got Season 2, so he mixed the images up on purpose and meant the opposite.
@@MUSICLOVER23429 Pretty much.
@@MUSICLOVER23429 Yeah I knew about Euron, but I'm going to be very patient and wait for the series to be finished one decade or so from now lol.
I am confident in saying this is the worst Terminator movie. And no one can change my mind.
@Kryptoskillet Genisys kill the franchise, Dark Fate pissed on its grave.
@Kryptoskillet Dark Fate was god awful, but at least it was grittier, the story was less complicated, and also had Linda Hamilton back and Arnold giving a solid performance. But aside from that, still awful.
@@alexlazzerly3677 dude at last gensiy was not sjw carp liek dark fate
@@ssjgotenks2009 That's the least of that movie's problems. But still not as bad as Genisys.
"I'll be living in your kitchen sink until you need another cameo!" 😂🤣😂🤣
Yeah, I thought back to the 'Captin Kitchen Sink' joke! 😂
.
(I literally just read the comment as soon as he said that)
14:37 Best Terminator love story: T-800 and John Connor in Terminator 2.
20:16 Does that mean that the Nostalgia Critic will review "Upgrade"?
Because that would be cool.
T1000 could be the main villain, and the reveal of Connor as a Terminator could serve as a twist ending.
i remember seeing this in a regal & then losing interest in the franchise until the critic started covering it, this made my day
I remember seeing this in the theater, and literally the only thing I remember about it was Matt Smith.
And it's not like he even puts in a good performance. Not that he's a bad actor or anything. He isn't
Same here
Indeed this is the oddest Doctor who x terminator crossover
And this film, that’s all I ever hear anyone talk about was “he was good in this.”
Well of course, given he’s recreating the “father-figure” stance from T2 with Sarah who is so mentally messed up that she freaks out at the mere thought of losing her robo-papa.
Oh, the nostalgia. The alien saying “Genisys?!” I remember when I first watched that review.
A few major differences
- Lena Headey was a brilliant Sarah Connor, she had the "powerful" look about her.
