    I was pretty excited about this. Then I watched your video... I'm going back to LMC. I tear out and reinstall dashes all the time at work (mechanic), all OEM and I even hate that so I could only imagine my raging impatience while attempting this! More power to you for tackling that!

    My dad has given me his 2000 dodge 1500 Laramie and I have been slowly restoring the interior. This may be a bit out of my league due to time as well as the truck is my main driver but damn this is pretty awesome to see.

  • @robertzajkowski3971
    @robertzajkowski3971 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Probably this ran through your mind as to doin it . But wouldn't it be easier to see how the dash and the air box and the interior assemblies are in the new Dodge, copy all of it into your ram, including the metal subframe for all of the dash. But it would include some welding at least.

    • @rickmarchion
      @rickmarchion  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the complete metal subframe of the new dash. And the new dash stuff arnt even in a similar location or size.

      @@rickmarchion kudos for doing it bro.its a helluva job to mod all that to fitting cause it's a totally different truck....with difference in dimensions.....what I saw from your window and it took a little bitt of visualizing....it might been easier to make a custom dash from scratch. But it's your project, kudos for doing it and I'm sure it will look awesome when done. Upload a video when done :).

    I just wish someone made a quality carbon fiber dash thats true to the oem fitment.

    • @rickmarchion
      @rickmarchion  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be cool but the price would be more then any one would pay

    • @rickmarchion
      @rickmarchion  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be cheaper to do a carbon fiber fabric over the plastic it will hold 10 times stronger then stock and look good. I seen a post of some one doing it before

    • @Creaky_Candle
      @Creaky_Candle 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rickmarchion well couldn't be that bad if someone mass produced them like hoods and trunks. But i can see a one off being alot of money. Hell ill take one thats made out of a stronger material. Just tired of the cheap thin plastic. Ive been looking around for a bolt in alternative. I have seats done and alot of interior parts swaped out to better stuff. But if anyone knows where to get a good quality dash point me the way.

    • @rickmarchion
      @rickmarchion  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Creaky_Candle yea those options are limited you can buy a used untracked one and reinforce it and wrap it in fiber that's should hold up

    I am trying to swap the steering wheel with a 3rd gen wheel, but the wiring is different for the air bag, is your airbag functional? I see that there are 4 wires on the newer wheel, but looks like only 3 one the 2nd gen....

    LMC truck sells a replacement dash for the 2nd gen...$280. Boom, done!!! This seems like ALOT of work for no real gain.

    • @rickmarchion
      @rickmarchion  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      True but LMC doesn't sell bottom dashes cup holder glove Box That part of the Dashboard was broken on mine. Plus I wanted to do something only a handful of people have actually done And to the best of my knowledge no one else has working AC original gages or 4 by 4. But the best part about all of it it's my truck so I can do what I want to it

      LMC doesn't sell the most important part, which is the abs sub assembly. Without that, nothing can go together. Used ones are goi g for a grand a pip, and that's if you trust shipping a brittle piece of abs plastic.

    Yor truck is a 3rd generation. 1st Gen is from 1974 to 1980 . And 2nd Gen is from 1981 to 1993 . 1994 to 2003 or 04 is a 3rd generation. I don't know why people don't know that. I guess because they see so many other people saying even though they are wrong

    • @rickmarchion
      @rickmarchion  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      People base it off the term ram being used on the truck before that was dodge w100 not dodge ram.. the 1st gen ram was 1981 to 1993 and 2nd gen was 1994 to 2001 with the 1500 2002 for the 2500 and up.

    Why don't you just mock-up a diamond plate steel Dash that's what I was going to do that way I can make it look like the original but made out of steel you know a Dodge Dash that might be able to withstand day-to-day activities and it's still 100% functional

    • @rickmarchion
      @rickmarchion  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cause this one is a 100 percent functional now besides radio and final install of the light switch

    • @rickmarchion
      @rickmarchion  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Plus I dont want the look of a race car or mud truck in a daily

    • @dillan2.032
      @dillan2.032 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or you could just mock-up some thin sheet metal and have it painted the same color as the truck like in those old 50s pickup trucks that would be pretty cool and it look pretty fancy idk ?

    • @rickmarchion
      @rickmarchion  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably would look cool but to far in to this.

    • @robertzajkowski3971
      @robertzajkowski3971 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because of the weight of it, your probably making it about 200 lbs heavier. Still awesome idea....you are thinkinking like a Nascar dash. But Dodge dash, new or old has a lot of curves, so to make it functional and good looking it be alot of welding, and metal fabrication and metal forming to shape.
