    You give Katie WAYYYY more credit than she deserves. Derrick tried throughout the marriage and she wasn't into him so she spent their marriage attacking him. She also definitely cheated on him and is trying to cover her ass

    Katie is an awful human being, and I’m tired of everyone going easy on her when they nail the guys for their issues. She is extremely verbally abusive, manipulative, and was never fully in it because her “love” for the ex which led her to cheat. I’m so glad Derrick is out of that-years down the line he would be such a different person after all of her abuse, and he’s really a happy nice and loving guy from what was shown.

    Um... I don't see Katie as being a "sweet person" at all. I find her toxic and foul. She berated Derek constantly for the dumbest crap. Everything was about her feelings and her perspective, it's like Derek wasn't allowed to have a point of view. And I don't believe for a second she friend zoned Derek first, THEN took up with the ex. Pretty sure she's been talking to the ex the whole time.

    I grew up with three grandparents who are all licensed and practicing psychologists (two of them do couples therapy!) and I love hearing your perspective on these shows. I'm lucky that I grew up in a family that did not pathologize talking to a professional and put an emphasis on paying attention to your mental and emotional wellbeing in the same way you would your physical health. Not everyone had that experience and I think you are opening the door for a lot of people to see that therapy shouldn't carry a stigma and that it really is for everyone.

    Katie and Zach was my 1st guess, being they both were cheating. I feel like Dr Honda has a biased opinion of Katie for some reason. She has seemed toxic since day one imo

    • @johnreed4401
      @johnreed4401 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      totally agree.. he seemed to excuse every toxic thing she did.. I surmised it was because she was a supossed therapist

    • @qwandary
      @qwandary 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@johnreed4401 Yeah I think he does have a slight bias to be supportive to other therapists.
      I love how Dr Honda is in general, I think he's a great judge of character, but I noticed he was more forgiving of the therapist on 90 Day Fiance too, and she is an awful interviewer. She'd sit there while people were having communication issues, with the translator not helping out, and wouldn't say anything. She's let someone be bullied in front of her and do nothing.
      But Dr Honda would still support the very few times she did anything, whereas I was just disappointed in her.

    • @qwandary
      @qwandary 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      RE Katie, I didn't think she was toxic in the beginning, but to me, it was pretty obvious Derek probably is aromantic or aro-spec, and he wasn't supported.
      He did indicate he didn't think he needed fixing I'm sure, and I was happy with that. But Katie was PUSHING him to change himself and force love, and that's horrible.
      As an asexual, I can confirm how damaging it can be for someone to try to change your sexuality or romantic orientation.
      I didn't like her once she was doing that. One time she was a bit drunk but I still didn't think she was unable to control herself, she was just trying to control him and making it a sob story about herself.
      If she's a therapist, she really should have took a step back and remembered she's not the only one with needs. And just because she's 'more romantic' it doesn't mean Derek has no emotions that can be hurt and that her emotions mattered more.
      And I honestly believe she thinks that he has minimal emotions, and would try to hurt him just to see if he had emotions. Then would be frustrated that he was capable of being hurt and upset but not capable of loving her.

    I'm late but I agree with your analysis of all the couples except Derek and Katie. I think the fact that Katie is a therapist biased you slightly to her, maybe subconsciously. Katie did nothing in or for their relationship. Derek was not the issue at all, he is lovely and I think given the right person and enough time he would have fallen in love. Dr. Honda you have a much more glowing assessment of Katie in this relationship than me. I think she went on the show to make her ex, who she knew full well that she was still very much so in love with, mad, cheated on Derrick after the honeymoon, berated him for not being like her ex, dissed him repeatedly on national television, and appeared to do absolutely nothing kind for him from what we saw. Yes, he said it would be hard for him to fall in love, but he also put her on his insurance very early into the marriage. Finally, to pursue a possible romantic relationship with another cast member who couldn't even be bothered to move in with his wife was in very poor taste and all she should've needed to know to not date him. During the reunion I think she downplayed the relationship with the ex, because he declined a relationship with her again. She clearly has questionable taste in men. I understand why Derrick felt the need to get some things off of his chest at the reunion especially after seeing how critical Katie was of him every chance she got during filming.

    These reaction videos are how I found Psychology in Seattle, and I've looked for uploads every day since. I have been watching the earlier seasons and they had 4 experts that tell more about how they put people together.
    About this season, I was surprised by Derek and Katie because Derek seemed into Katie, whether being in love or not. I think Katie checked out, so it's weird to hear Dr. Honda keep saying Derek just wasn't in love. I feel bad for Meka and Michael, Taylor and Brandon. They would've needed therapy and to not be on camera trying to work out their issues. I think that added to the stress. Zack needs help and I hope Mindy finds her confidence through this and finds someone that will treat her like the beautiful person she is. The other couple is just too cute and I'm glad they found each other.

    Dr. Honda, I think you have a blindspot when it comes to Katie and how rude and manipulative she is and sometimes you seem to jump the gun and make exceptions to the way she acts. She's spoiled, rude and full of herself and that's my take on her behavior this whole marriage. I don't think Derek was perfect, but she sure as heck said a lot of rude and hurtful things to him and I don't see you taking her to task about that.

    • @jesmeyer732
      @jesmeyer732 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I agree he has a blind spot. I think it’s because she is a fellow therapist. I really think she either just wanted to move her life forward and was trying to jump the gun or she did this show to get back at her ex. Either way her intentions didn’t seem good. I don’t think it would’ve went well for WHOEVER they matched her with.

    Derrick had a spark. He didn’t fall in love right away just like Austin and the other cast mates but he was attracted to Katie and did a lot of romantic things for her. Katie wanted him to immediately fall head over heels for her and didn’t even like that he wrote love poems as a teen or that he was kind and jovial to others. She wanted him to be 100% absorbed in her and that’s unrealistic.

    I actually think Derrick could have fallen in love with Katie. But she kept bringing up the issue and pressuring him to fall in love with her all the time. Everyone knows the more pressure u put on someone and constantly bringing it up, the opposite the effect has on them. I just don't understand why she needed him to fall in love so fast. What is the rush? Why does she need him to be in love with her by a certain date? I just don't understand that way of thinking. It's too much pressure and a high/unrealistic expectation, imo.

The new season is really interesting and I have already wondered what kind of things you have to say about it. If you want to watch an older season, I definitely recommend season 6! All the couples have many interesting dilemmas and situations, and I can't wait to hear your take on them (especially Ryan, Jephte, and Molly). It's not as clear-cut as this season, you have to wait to see which couples will make it (here it was pretty obvious since the honeymoon that J&A would stay together and at least B&T, Z&M and M&M will break up).

    They have 92% failure rate and people still sign up to these shows and then claim they hate cameras 🤦🏾‍♀️ ( Brandon). Why would anyone sign up to this show if not to be on TV, get paid and have a free trip. If they cared more about the couples than the ratings, they would allow the couples to date and choose their own future husband based on looks at least ( because many couples are just not into each other) and match based on common values and hobbies. This new season just proved that they don’t know how to match people. They chose a man that dated 49 girls in a month according to him and hit on the strippers before the wedding. They should’ve pulled him out and replace him with someone decent.

      I agree, but he was dishonest when he accused Taylor of being there for the cameras when he did the same thing. He could’ve also quit the show without fighting with the production. I just find it annoying when people go there acting like they didn’t sign up to marry a complete stranger. The experts do a crappy job matching people, like this season, they matched a shy guy with an outgoing woman, a guy who can’t stand his wife making more with a woman who makes more than him. It’s like they don’t care about their values and hobbies. Or the couples tell them what they want to hear because they want to be on TV

      Brandon definitely didnt do it only for the cameras. He went to see her outside of filming all the time, even when he couldnt stand doing normal filming time. To me it seemed like she was moreso there to promote her Instagram, etc than he was.

    Also, could you react to Are you the one (s8)? It has the same matchmaking idea except that the people will have to identify their match from a big group. Season 8 is especially good because all the contestants are either bi- or pansexual.

    I know I´m late but these shows aren´t a thing where I live besides me not watching any tv. This would just be way too painful to watch, but with your analysis I´ve just been watching all 42 videos at the last 3 nights. Very digestable and great advice, I really like all the perspectives you bring in. Especially when you phrase better ways of adressing things etc. helps a lot to grasp healthy communication in conflict situations when you´ve never learned how to handle these. Thank you!

    I have a recommendation! There’s a YT channel called “The Skin Deep” and they host (ex)couples, (estranged) family, friends, roommates, etc., to play a card game with prewritten personal questions by the staff for the participants to ask each other. It usually prompts deep conversations about their relationships. I think it’d be really cool if you checked it out to decided whether to commentate on it for the channel too! For example, their most popular video features a heavy conversation between a formerly incarcerated father and his daughter (Mia &Khalil) which I recommend watching with a box of tissues. But I think the channel posts lot of different relationship content that I hope you’d find interesting. Reacting to the video(s) that you find the most intriguing, would be so cool! Take care 🍻

    Dr. Honda, I have enjoyed every journey you've taken us on. I've listed to all your videos on MAFS, 90 Day Fiance and Love is Blind as I follow all 3 of these shows. Also listed to all your Game of Thrones podcasts twice. Now I'm running out of material from you. Please start on the new season of MAFS and the 90 Day Fiance The Other Way episodes too. When you mentioned Love is Blind and I realized how many reality shows you'd covered since then! I enjoyed every bit of your commentary, and want to thank you for teaching me to be more differentiated! Like you said these videos shouldn't replace therapy, however I'll take what I can get 😉. Recently I'd binged Atypical on Netflix about a family that has a son with ASD. I absolutely love it and thought the conversation they have showed a lot of differenciation!😄love to hear your take on it, especially the potentially their relationship with the son's therapist! ♥️♥️♥️♥️

    I've watched all of the Married at First Sight videos you made, even though I never watched the show. They've been really informative and made me think about the concept a lot more. I think the Western standpoint, matchmaking seems weird, but it's common place in a lot of communities. I do agree that it's not the matchmaking that is important, but the help you get after the fact that can save a marriage.
    As for your question about whether you'd be a part of the show if it means you have a higher rate of divorce....I've been thinking about the question. While I may not ever do the show, I think if the opportunity came forward I might take it. I think it would provide a meaningful experience and you'd get to see yourself on TV and hear Dr. Honda react to how you deal with things lol. You'd also get everyone else commenting on you too, but I think it might help people who are looking for love see where they are going wrong or what they need to work on. As long as they don't have thin skin, since the internet can be a cruel place.

    Married at First Sight in in Poland it is also very interesting. There are three pairs in our version and they do not know each other as in the American version. In the latest 4 seasons, 2 couples stays with each other. There were so many emotions that I was not sure that anyone would stay with each other. the program is recorded six months earlier, because if a couple resigns, they inform the 'backup' couple about the possibility of participating in the program.

    Did he just say 2 weeks into the marriage she said we should be friends? Does that mean before decision day? I don't get the timeline.
    I do not understand why dr honda is way too biased towards katie?

    I've enjoyed this journey a lot even though I'm not even watching that show. I started watching your video because one was recommended due to the facts that I watched Love Is Blind. Then I kept watching your videos. I always thought about seeing a therapist because lately I've been kind of "sad" and anxious. But your videos made me realize that I do need to see one for tons of reasons lol
    One day when talking about breakups you said "The person in control doesn't get what they deserve because they have to always be the competent one instead of relaxing and occasionally letting the other person take care of them" And I was like "OOOOOhhh that's me!" And another time you were talking about people who doesn't "voice" their anger because as a kid they were not able to express it and I completely related. If as a kid I would have expressed my anger, my mom would have whooped my ass lol.
    Anyway all this to say that I freakin love your channel. Take care of yourself Dr.Honda ;)
