      Wiki - Although Randy Bachman was the more widely known name because of his years with The Guess Who, Robbie Bachman stated in numerous interviews that there could have been no "BTO sound" without Turner's contributions: "The first Brave Belt album was very country-rock. Everything changed when Fred joined the band. We had Fred Turner's heavy, rough voice. We evolved because of Mr. Turner." Said Turner himself, "I think I brought a hard edge to the band. It was pretty countryish when I joined."

  • @taun856
    @taun856 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +35

    Apparently Fred Turner sang lead on this song. I found an interesting note on Wikipedia about the song, here's the quote: "The tune was inspired by a traffic incident. While on tour in 1973 supporting The Doobie Brothers, the band was on a highway in their tour bus and got boxed in by a couple of trucks. When the bus and the trucks reached a rest area, the musicians confronted the truck drivers, who responded by saying the band members should settle down and just let it ride ".

      Not quite correct there, Neil encouraged Randy to hire Fred in his band Brave Belt in 1972, Fred added a harder edge to Brave Belt's country rock sound. In 1973, Brave Belt changed their name to Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

    I've floated the Illinois River a number of times, that's so great to hear that. Also really it's been awhile but I really also love the Current River and the Jacks Fork, and the Buffalo was really kind of nice. I hit the Illinois once in springtime when a lot of rainfall occurred, and it was pretty intense.

    I remember going to the Van Halen concert here in Atlanta in 1986 I had front row to the 5150 tour and bachman-turner overdrive was the opening act and this was the song they opened up the show with. It was great watching them as the opening act It was April 1986 and I was only 20 years old at the time it was awesome.

First band on stage was Journey,followed by Aerosmith and last but certainly not least BTO . It was just so amazing!!!!!

    BTO was an incredible band. The Bachman boys: Randy, Robbie (1953-2023), and Tim (1951-2023) were awesome and when you add Fred Turner on killer guitar they were explosive on stage. Thanks for showcasing them.

    Randy Bachman is from my home town Winnipeg Manitoba Canada he was one of the founding members of the band The Guess Who. Then he went to Minnesota and started the band BTO. His name is actually pronounced BACKMAN vice BOCKMAN. Just thought you'd like to know that.... and I love you guys you're one of my favourites! I was in high school when The Guess Who was big in the 70s and my friends and I would see them at a small pizza place near my school and spoke with them often... it was their fav place and mine too.
    Please do some reactions to The Guess Who and also the lead singer who left and went on to have a great solo career. His name is Burton Cummings!
    Keep up the good work!

      1) The Entertainer - Marvin Hamlisch
      2) Dancing Machine - Jackson Five
      3) Let It Ride - Bachman- Turner Overdrive

      @@Carrie-so3ro nah, just never got the same airplay south of the border. We got hammered with the Canadian Content (aka CanCon) there was a certain percentage of CanCon that HAD to played if you wanted a radio licence up here. I think the policy actually served it's purpose (unlike almost everything else government sticks it's nose in)

    That was Fred Turner on the gritty lead vocals with Randy Bachman on the harmony. Since you like "grit" in your vocals, I suggest your listen to Gregg Allman, who some consider to be the greatest white blues singer of all time. His work with the Allman Brothers Band is legendary but I think his voice got better with age. It has grit and a smoky, road worn edge like an aged bourbon whiskey. Maybe something like the track Rendezvous With The Blues from his later album called Searching For Simplicity would be a good example of what I mean about what a great singer he was. Keep enjoying all these classic tracks that I grew up with... so nice to see a younger generation discover why I think the older music is still the best music!
