I’ve recently switched to iced chai latte, the caffeine content is much less and I don’t get the withdrawals I usually get when I stop drinking coffee.
I have the same tendencies. I indulge myself with some "real" coffees once in a while. Rest of the time, I use good decaf and like you enjoy other drinks like chai, or cacao (funny thing is that even though it contains caffeine, it doesn't have the same effects on me).

Im a little over a week coffee free and my skin inflammation has calmed down dramatically. Also my dreams are way more real and lifelike. I only drank one small cup in the morning. I think the cortisol response is the main culprit
Over the last 4 years I've given up almost all the foods and drinks that I used to love. Coffee is my one last 'treat'. I never have more than 2 a day and I never drink it past lunchtime. I know, I'm justifying the addiction, but I really do get great pleasure from grinding the beans and making the perfect espresso each morning after I've walked the dogs. I don't get sore or jittery, but if I miss a day I get a headache, so I know I'm an addict!
I quit coffee for a while last year. Then discovered bulletproof/fat coffee and saw how much better I handle caffeine w all the fat in it and figured it’s prob a great fuel for brain and gut health with all that ghee and mct. But now just quit again bc hearing how much it Can affect muscle soreness is a big factor for me. I get way too sore from workouts so If I can improve that I’m willing to quit lol. Thanks guys for doing this podcast
Here's my take on coffee after a year or two of consistent drinking: coffee persk me up, but I never go above my toelrance level. Even when I'm below what I can tolerate I still get a pick me up. It doesn't effect my sleep, but it does likely increase cortisol - by how much I do not know. But the spike in stress-cortisol doesn't appear to be extremely damaging; maybe just a bit of anxiety, which I can mitigate successfuly. I can drink two cups of medium strength coffee per day with one or two cups of decaf with no problems to sleep. Another thing I've noticed with coffee drinking is the facial skin. Despite drinking 2Lit sparkling water per day my skin feels a bit more sensitive and puffy, but no visible sign of acne. I've not noticed any brain-fog and only minimal jitters, sometimes none at all. The dose and knowing your tolerance level is obviously key when it comes to caffeine negative effects. Personally, I enjoy coffee and the problems I'm getting from drinking it can be mitigated. I'm sure if I stopped drinking coffee I would reap the benefits, but then again there are benefits to be reaped from drinking it too, namely, the perk-up the resultant increase in physical vigor for fat burning.
i feel the same way... i think the benefits coffee give me still outweigh any potential downsides. The only time it affects my sleep is if i have some too late in the day, like between 4pm or later. Plus, i just love the taste, as well and even enjoy decaf from time to time. I like to brew my own coffee because i grind significantly less beans than the average cup of coffee. Whenever i order a coffee at a restaurant, i instantly notice the caffeine jolt after consuming only a half-cup.
Interesting take. I have many of the same sentiments. Regarding the bit with your skin. I wonder if it’s a hydration issue? I usually start my day with electrolytes first thing when I wake and if using caffeine that day will drink it an hour or 2 later. I don’t really notice any negative effects when using it this way. Im very sensitive to caffeine so I’m careful with how I use it. If I drink it after 12 I’ll have trouble sleeping. Obviously everybody’s body chemistry is different but I think if you experiment, don’t abuse it and get it dialed in it’s incredible tool.
I grew up drinking coffee ☕️ as a Puerto 🇵🇷 rican kid we Latinos love our coffee ☕️ beverage. Just like any other thing to eat or drink the caffeine in the coffee effects people differently it varies. I have a cup of ☕️ each and every morning that's my go to .🤓🥊🕊
Interesting. I was never a coffee guy. But when I tried it it really seemed to control hunger for the first half of the day. Everything Dr. Saladino said though makes me wish there was another option for the affects coffee caffeine has!
Some of the reactions to coffee can be moderated by properly blooming the grounds in a pour over device, using manila filters, and discarding the first bloom before pouring the serving steep.
First, I’m amazed that the doctors interviewed. Second, caffeine might be the hardest addiction if not second hardest to quit. Sugar being the first. I’ve only been drinking coffee about 20 of my 48 years. It’s going to be a difficult process but I don’t have allergies to mold so right now it will remain. Thank you for this information and ONE OF THESE DAYS I will kick the habit 🙏🏼
Tbh coffe helps me before working out and has helped me tbh but i understand if people dont drink coffe as i believe you shouldn't need coffe to get energy but it can help for some people
Another thing is caffeine's effect on the th1 and th2 system. Also the release of dopamine and serotonin, I believe just a sip of clean coffee can pick peoples spirit and happiness up. Just a microdose can stimulate so many things in the body, including the th1 /th2 system. I've experimented alot with all of it and have alot to say. Thanks for your work Paul..

As a coffee connoisseur and lover I will never quit coffee, but a severe reduction was in order. i drink about 8oz per day about an hour after I wake up. It’s also important to make sure your coffee is free from micotoxins and other contaminants… and processed in the correct way and from a high elevation.
Harman and Norharman are constituents of brewed coffee, and are potent MAO-A inhibitors. The literature considers them weak inhibitors, and for people without MAOA or COMT polymorphisms, they are weak, and actually feel great. For the small number of people who have polymorphysms (SNPs) at both MAO-A and COMT, these constituents spike norepinephrine to an uncomfortable level. This is why when he takes a pure caffeine pill (as opposed to brewed coffee), he feels great - he gets the activation at the adenosine-dopamine complexes, without the norepinephrine spike. About 3 to 5% of the population carry the MAO-A + COMT double homozygosity for the low activity variants.
Not triggered. I’m drinking coffee to see if it will affect me today. I usually just drink some water every morning. I love to experiment and see what works. TY Doctors.
Drinking coffee for one day afte as a non-coffee drinker is not a real experiment. It's the cumulative effects of the body being backed-up with toxins that creates the inflammation. Try drinking it for at least 7 consecutive days to really experience the difference and feel how bad it can get.

Bullet proof changed the game. Always had issues with regular coffee. No jitters and no crash with bullet proof. Huberman actually talks about it - how the fat helps with slow and effective release of caffeine.
i have been on carnivore for 3 months, I tried to add honey and some fruit and ended up gaining weight back. I would eat like a tablespoon of honey and a few bananas, apples, and on some days plums and it made me feel bloated. Coffee I cycle 1 month off and 1 month on. Less head aches with not having coffee but no other difference . Including fruit and honey just made me feel like I was always hungry and I dont get that on just carnivore.
Did you go from carnivore to adding in all that at once? I think that would be hard on anyone. Also your activity level is so important on how many grams of carbs to eat. Another thing to keep in mind is that you may react to specific fruits. I do. I can’t eat the skin on anything. I can eat more than 100 grams of carbs a day. I can’t do citrus. I do fine with apples without skin and I can do avocado and watermelon. The point is is to listen to your body and to go very slow. Add one thing in at a time. Try starting with only glyphosate free raw honey. Do that for a week or two and see how it goes. Then add in an apple without the skin. Then add it with the skin.
@@TheTalkShytShowi can perfectly eat a whole watermelon and still be hungry, so I dont really know where you got this info. Theres not a damn piece of fruit that satiates me. If I start, it's pretty easy for me to eat much more fruit than I really need.
@@le_boucher , one problem could be you're not eating mindfully or concentrating in food enough (this includes chewing the fruit at least 20-30 times) if you eat it rapidly and without even paying attention to what you're eating ( a lot of people watch TV or their phones while eating) then you'll never feel satiated.
Does anybody know the effects of caffeine pills vs coffee? I do have a number of stomach issues and are in the process of removing a number of items from my diet. I can do without coffee, but I’m curious if caffeine pills could be a possible replacement, or do they have a number of issues?
Just experienced intense anxiety that I believe is due to what is in the coffee. Same brand for 20 years that has now been changed, somehow. So . . . I don't trust the honesty of manufacturers to sell unharmful products; they'd put a substance in a product whether it's harmful or not. I experienced a product change with their butter, as well . . . I'm pretty sure they'd added seed oil. The texture went from butter hard out of the fridge, to a softer form. After two weeks of eating it my knees and hip joints were inflamed. Just sitting was painful.
I’m 45 years old and literally just started using caffeine this year and think it’s absolutely incredible performance enhancer. I’m very sensitive to it and coffee always gave me major anxiety so I never understood what the big deal was and just thought everyone was crazy. I started with Yerba Mate and eventually coffee and it’s been life changing. I only utilize caffeine 3 times per week and some of those days I drink even less than one cup. I think if you have enough self control to pull back on it when you notice yourself starting to develop a tolerance you can seriously leverage it as an incredible performance enhancing tool. I’m big into mountain biking and it’s crazy how much of a difference it makes in decisiveness in split second decisions plus just blasting through moments where I would be completely fatigued. Even though I use it so sparsely I’m still planning on phasing off for a month here and there bc I absolutely love the effect it’s having and I don’t want to develop a tolerance. If there are long time addicts out there that need it to just be at baseline it’s a different story. Just my 2 cent from my recent experience.
I used to tell myself the same thing particularly with diet sodas. Never knew that caffeine alone spikes your blood sugar which gives you that constant grogginess without it. I had no idea I was always tired ON caffeine until i quit cold turkey. Our natural energy levels are high af. Caffeine is a crutch.
This makes me think - what about spices for food? Are spices causing inflammation/soreness/stiffness? What are we supposed to put on our steak and chicken?
Spices can be huge triggers. Best way to find out is eliminate them all for a while, just use salt, and then one at a time try adding them, see if you notice anything.
Coffee is absolutely the lowest hanging fruit / bean for me to give up for my health. Clearly addicted - I know it makes me feel anxious, among some other problems, but still I haven’t been able to give it up. I do plan to though…. 😬
Am easy way is to do it on some days off, because if you sleep more, eat more to offset the way coffee raised blood sugar and that will crash, hydrate and take electrolytes, it's not so bad.
I think I tried 6-7 times already, longest I went without was a month or so.. to me the taste is a huge part, I stopped any drinking so the realm of tastes are reduced to tea/coffee.. At this point you ought to ask yourself whether following another person's perception of what to eat/what not to eat, and religiously so, is a good idea. Remember, this aids in his income in a major part, and so does signing up to his supplements etc.
@@Erudiri it’s 100% my own thinking - I notice negative effects from drinking coffee on myself, personally. Doesn’t matter what Saladino and Chaffee recommend (and indeed, many carnivore “authorities” say coffee is fine, as do most people in general). If it’s working for you then that’s fantastic. I wish I could drink a gallon a day - there are definitely benefits to it, including the taste for me and the temporary mild euphoric effect. Unfortunately, it tends to cause my social anxiety to increase, unless I’m very careful to hydrate beforehand, drink only a small amount, and have all the other boxes checked like diet sleep and exercise. It’s taking more than it’s giving from me, unfortunately
I think histamine is a big factor w coffee problems, I learned this from former problems w opioids/kratom, both substances r very involved w ur gut mood, and possible problems
I thought coffee lowers histamine? Coffee definitely lowers my symptoms of high histamine after I drink it. It improves my digestion via increasing HCL acid production and promotes a healthy bowel movement. Ground meat is very high in histamine and gives me itchiness and hot flashes. Coffee lowers these symptoms.

I’ve recently switched to iced chai latte, the caffeine content is much less and I don’t get the withdrawals I usually get when I stop drinking coffee.
I have the same tendencies. I indulge myself with some "real" coffees once in a while. Rest of the time, I use good decaf and like you enjoy other drinks like chai, or cacao (funny thing is that even though it contains caffeine, it doesn't have the same effects on me).
u can still drink it sometimes, just not daily, yes youre heavily addicted to it
I'm eating like 90% animal based, but still drinking few cups of coffee a day. I'm having some sleep quality problems, had em for a while, now considering doing a 30 day no caffeine pause, just to see if it helps.
I tried to do this, got to 4-5 days and couldn't do it any longer BUT my sleep was noticeably better during those days and has now got me thinking that coffee is definetely effecting my sleep a lot more than I first realised
Try no artificial light at night or only candles and red light. Get your eyes set on the sunrise outside daily. This sets circadian rhythm and way more important than cutting out the coffee though admittedly coffee isn’t great
@@Farawaylander try just drinking half a cup in the morning, seems to be the sweetspot for me!
Was abusing pre workouts and caffeine in the past, had two.weeks withdrawal symptoms from caffeine, lethargic, headache and laziness. Looking back caffeine should definitely not be a crutch for drive focus and energy. Also got leaner and my energy levels returned, my sleep improved and after like a month or two my performance was back to normal. Coffee definitely not worth it long term! I had to basically go twice through the withdrawal period to realize coffee is BS
@@liverpoolfc1445what worked for me was not having any Coffee after 11am. Now it depends what time you go to bed, but I aim to be asleep by 10pm. Works great for me, even if I have 3 double espressos in the morning.
I was feeling constant nausea for months with no medical reason that the doctors could find.
I cut out coffee and tea from my daily intake and never felt better.
Thanks good to know!! Seems like I am fine if I do half green tea and half black tea in a cup.
Interesting… I just started having decaf tea with cream. I heard that including a calcium-containing substance counteracts the oxalic acid that is present in tea. (Coffee supposedly doesn’t contain oxalates but has a lot of other junk.)
Love you, Brother.
Wowwww... Ok thank you for this video. I'm struggling with getting off coffee but I'm stopping now! Today's my last coffee day! ❤
I’m going to try cutting out coffee starting today. My sleep is horrid right now, I guess it could be the caffeine in my system.
Thanks for the pod
It could be myriad of reasons tbh, even psychological that are not conscious to you. So yeah, I think the most important part is to do a full halt of any caffeine earlier in the day, to see if that has any helping function..
I just LOVE my morning espresso! But this makes sense so probably need to try it 🤗

How did you deal with the headache?

It's a good idea to test food and drink. I often wonder if Paul quit fruit and honey for 30 days, how he would feel. Right now he reminds me of me when I drink coffee. It makes me move fast, talk fast, think fast and can't sit still. I'm quite different when I quit coffee, I'm calm, think better and actually accomplish more since my brain is not flitting all over the place.

@@tallcedars2310 Dr Paul Saladino began as a strict carnivore. Then, after a few years, he started having some issues from this long-term ketosis (muscle cramps, poor sleep, low hormone levels, etc.) and decided to reintroduce fruit and honey. That helped, the negative symptoms were gone. Just FYI
I'm new to Paul's site. He is well known in the carnivore circle that I joined in Jan23.
To date I've not heard of anyone having those symptoms on the carnivore diet, all people have said is it cured those symptoms. I experience all of the same issues if I drink coffee. Joint pain, generalized inflammation, my skin feels hot and I get dry, flaky skin.
Same, coffee is a diuretic. Causes Vasoconstriction which causes blood to not fully flow to skin, aka dry flakes.
A collab that we've been waiting for a while 😳😳
Coffee is good for your liver and kidneys, has antioxidants that kill cancer and has neuroprotective properties. Also it makes me feel great, I love the taste and helps to start the day. I will never stop drinking coffee.

Im a little over a week coffee free and my skin inflammation has calmed down dramatically. Also my dreams are way more real and lifelike. I only drank one small cup in the morning. I think the cortisol response is the main culprit
I love that Mr Anthony Chaffee teach us about Coffee
Having a great result with a carnivore diet, but I draw the line at removing coffee. Works for me! Nothing but upside!
Coffee is a strong diuretic. Can cause Vasoconstriction which causes blood to not fully flow to skin, aka dry skin, muscle pain, etc.

Then discovered bulletproof/fat coffee and saw how much better I handle caffeine w all the fat in it and figured it’s prob a great fuel for brain and gut health with all that ghee and mct. Don't workout
@@lileav I’ve got to stay strong I have MS and I can’t let myself get weak. My strength is too important to me
Maybe you are overdoing the workouts?
You can workout hard or you can workout long but not both
Here's my take on coffee after a year or two of consistent drinking: coffee persk me up, but I never go above my toelrance level.

I quit coffee for a month. Felt no benefits by quitting it, but I felt like my mind was sluggish.

First, I’m amazed that the doctors interviewed. Second, caffeine might be the hardest addiction if not second hardest to quit. Sugar being the first. Hi. Should I stop taking Chamomile and Ginger tea ?
Thank you for this!

Drinking coffee for one day afte as a non-coffee drinker is not a real experiment. It's the cumulative effects of the body being backed-up with toxins that creates the inflammation. Try drinking it for at least 7 consecutive days to really experience the difference and feel how bad it can get.

i have been on carnivore for 3 months, I tried to add honey and some fruit and ended up gaining weight back.
Bananas make u feel that way.. Exchange bananas with water melon and apples with avocado and coconut water

How about decaf coffee?

Am easy way is to do it on some days off, because if you sleep more, eat more to offset the way coffee raised blood sugar and that will crash, hydrate and take electrolytes, it's not so bad.
Me to I want to quit
