A little warning for those who enable this via Wintoys on unsupported hardware: you better have a restore point first as you WILL get a neverending blue screen if you enable this. Not even safe mode will help.

I would love to use it. But I have a i5 14400 /ASRock 760m wi-Fi Riptide. After current Windows update I rebooted and had driver incompatibility error messages on reboot. It was all tied to Core Isolation settings, as well as Memory Integrity setting.
When I turned it off I rebooted without issue. The main program incompatibility was ASROCK Phantom Game Tuning which includes Fan Curves. I'll stick to it off, I'd rather not have all the errors that come up after booting.

Thanks for this, I have just moved to Win 11 and was wondering what this was. I think a lot of "gamers" who might be complaining are often unaware of other things that can and do affect their gaming experience, and latch on to things like this to blame the "Big Bad Microsoft".

Yeah, I've tested this as well with similar results (using PresentMon). Looks to be just overhead that affects processing time, bandwidth, and access time. Depending on the game (like Fo76), it can introduce microstutters, which can be very noticeable. Games with more sophisticated engine architecture are less affected, however.

Hi Brian, thanks for the video. Yes, I have Core Isolation turned on in Windows. It's a great feature for added protection and enhanced security that is included in Core Isolation. But as you say, Brian, you can turn it off if it affects your computer when you play games and so on, but I also recommend keeping Core Isolation turned on in Windows. Take care Brian and I wish you a lovely Sunday evening. Greetings from Nils.

I'm not arguing with your premise that disabling these things will not increase your FPS because we both know it won't. I'm just saying that doesn't mean disabling these features will not improve your computers responsiveness and overall performance. For example if your a user an your on a low end machine and you disable these 2 settings an notice that after doing so your pc is now taking only 30 seconds to do what was previously taking 10 minutes to do that's an improvement. And once you've had that experience no one is going to be able to tell you that disabling those settings make no difference what so ever! This phenomanen makes it hard to steer users in the right direction.

I do get small fps hit when turned on. I ran it on the Black Myth Wukong benchmark and lost 1 frame. I got 44fps min when Core Isolation Protection was turned on and 55fps min when turned off.
I think the main reason to turn it off I have heard of is that some hardware device drivers conflict with it. I think it was some exotic audio hardware.

I remember when I got my new PC a year ago I turned this feature on and played a single game with no impact, then I decided I was ready to play another game which was more of the fps kind and holly molly it was bad like 2 seconds per frame bad. I didn't understand what the issue was until I remembered the only thing that I changed was the enabling of Core Isolation Protection, I reverted it and voilà, no more stuttering. I don't have a potato that's for sure, so I don't know how the game it's impacted by this but I suspect that the game may be running something and this feature may be constantly checking what it's doing so the game cannot access smoothly the resources. Kind of like an antivirus checking a file before you open it, but in this case it is locking it from running until it's in the clear and then release it for every little change.
So I don't think it's only old computers, there must be something else going on. I have a Ryzen 7 7700x 8-core processor, 16 logical processors, ASRock A620 Pro mobo, Radeon RX 7900 XT GPU, running Windows 11 Educational edition.

I'd have this turned on but there are incompatibilities with a certain driver and that driver belongs to Shadow Defender, a reboot to restore security solution I've been using for about 15 years. To turn core isolation on would mean I would need to stop using Shadow Defender, which isn't happening because Shadow Defender is the most important security software I use.

Best things you can do is install custom OS made for maximum performance like ghost spectre for example, without defender if you want own AV.

@@NotEvenDeathCanSaveU the days where you needed to be tricked into clicking on something to get malware are long gone. Most malware is delivered through zero-click exploits, look at the WannaCry ransomware and how that was able to run on the vast majority of systems, no clicking at all, you didn't even need to have anything open for it to happen. If your antivirus was a good one that actually works your system would be protected, if your antivirus was a shitty one like crowdstrike or norton, your system would be infected.
A tiny difference in loading times or a tiny difference in framerates is not worth having your whole system toasted when you least expect it.
All this horse-crap about framerates is definitely some kind of propaganda to get people to turn their security features off. No security on your system means that anyone can plant whatever they want on there. Always use a VPN, always use antivirus, always use all your core isolation features

Less someone is making 5 figures or more per year as a professional gamer, anything over 100FPS is plenty. The people that need higher than that are just being ridiculously overly competitive for no real reason.
You might see more fluid game play in a competitive FPS shooter but just the human response time is orders of magnitude slower than even 100 FPS, then you have latency from all sources added in, etc.
If you are playing games offline then 60 is plenty but, obviously 100 looks nicer.
The 1% lows / min / average fps during a drop is what matters.
I'd take 60 FPS steady all day long over 120fps average with periodic dips into the 60s. Those drops / stutters are infuriating.
