      What's going on?

Just use a aoolocker and Group polcies to control the settings. the problem with Linux is that most windows apps dont work with it + if you intend to have a job behind a desk, linux will not do it.

@@HauntedBranch- I'm doing the same. My distro of choice is endeavouros (EOS), but I used Ventoy to make a multi-distro live USB drive to try out a whole lot of options. Of all of them, "out of the box" Zorin saw my printer and monitors with the live USB, Garuda had all the gaming programs I wanted set up, and Mint couldn't get my graphics card/monitor and was low resolution. I'd say Zorin is the way to go.
Used to be all about Ubuntu back in the day, but I gamed a lot and gave it up. I hear Ubuntu likes to harvest data, and is becoming the Microsoft of the Linux platforms (but still way better than MS). Also, I technically would use kububtu because I don't like a Mac like interface.
If I were to recommend a distro for beginners, I'd say Zorin. However, if you want to learn to tinker with your OS then Arco Linux could be a good choice.

AV, FW kept me out of trouble along with backup regularly, so not to worry about security update when it dies. Just in case also, Linux is getting more popular and many programs will need to adapt to Linux too and MS scares of it. So no panic here.

That is strongly implied. You could give it a try and see as it is unlikely to break anything and you can always switch to manual if you like. I think the manual install was chosen simply because so many people are looking for more fine grained control over what gets installed and when.

My question is (so far this has worked fine) when I get notifications for updates, can those be offerred for other than the settings I've made to stay on 22H2? So far everything I’ve accepted (letting the updates install and then doing a winver check that still tells me I'm still on 22H2), but since I've made this change, does Microsoft’s downloading policy check on that, rather than offering “wrong“ updates (ones that don't comply with my 22H2)?

I do remember that when will is 10 first came out, there are two operating systems out at the same time Windows 10 and Windows 7
Microsoft might be having a change of mind about the end of support for Windows 10 pictures of the backlash on Windows 11, like they did with Windows 7 when Windows 10 came out because the backlash Windows 8 and 8.1.

I was meaning to do this for a while, spotted this video and got it done, thanks! Subbed. I expect MS will try to push more AI stuff down peoples throats just to get it out to the public and maybe add more advertisement and profiling data features since MS is becoming an ad driven company as well it seems. If you're a glass half full type you might think MS is making a U turn and keep supporting W10 for longer since no one wants to throw out their perfectly-functioning-but-not-supported-by-W11 garbage thing.
I have a non profit volume license so I'm hoping to get security updates for little money. If not I'll probably move my latest PC to w11 and try to strip it down. I may even just delete or rename copilot files or block it using a firewall if I have to. Other PCs (one for electronics, one for CNC and a couple of laptops) I'll probably just block everything except local network access and keep w10. One can be loaded with Linux probably, if it supports the electronics dev kits that I sometimes use. The others have non compatible software that can't run or are glitchy at best on linux.

I think you can still follow the steps, yes, me saying this as a software developer. It's likely some settings have already been made. It's hard to tell what those settings could be, but you can take a look and decide to just ignore or disagree with them and do your preferred settings anyway.

DWORD should be enough. It's just a data type, the choice between DWORD or QWORD (32 or 64 bits) tells the range of the data the entry allows holding, so it does not have anything to do with your CPU's data with which is 64 bits these days.
