  • Hope, Alaska is home to Resurrection Creek and the ideally-located Seaview RV park, which backs right up to it. About a 100-minute drive from Anchorage, this beautiful stream pulls in massive quantities of salmon every year.
Sometimes there are so many fish, you can almost walk across them.
We spent several August days with my brother and his wife's family, fly fishing for Pink Salmon. Also known as HUMPIES, due to the spinal hump that forms when the males hit fresh water, pinks have a delicate texture and flavor, and they're easy to catch and cook right away.
We roasted a couple over the fire shortly after catching them. Yum.
I grew up in Alaska, but hadn't fished there in years. A master teacher, my brother reminded me how to catch, land, and clean these excellent trout-like fish.

I like pinks as well but I catch way nicer in the salt water in front of creek way better fish

The nice thing about that creek in Hope is it's literally one or two hundred yards from the saltwater of Turnagain Arm, so these pinks have probably been in the fresh water for less than 6-12 hours. But agree: if you can pull them out of the saltwater, they're going to taste better and have better texture. Thanks for the comment! - Dave
