I needed a little increase in HOPE today!!! Prayers answered. Such a Beautiful day trip. Lauren, I suppose you might have hit a little wall of Wisdom in this vlog. Sometimes a bit of Hope lies in places you have never gone before, back in time. Hope, Alaska seems to be a testament of time, a place where they have been prosperous/emptied, Community/Refugee, Teachers/pupils, Dismantling/ Preservation.
The place where the Fireweed was 7 Ft tall was so beautiful. Watching Everett was so much fun. The Dump Truck Sandbox looked like a 5 Year olds dream. The Fishing was a thrill, and Weston at #8 is stepping it up a notch. What a nice day of Dad's taking you fishing. Seeing the Boys master their skills.. And just going on an unexpected beautiful Adventure. With Summer nearing its end, it was a great reminder to savoir the bit of time left. It is so beautiful Late Summer, Thank you for taking us along.

We visited Hope and loved it! The road to Hope was beautiful in late May. We especially enjoyed delicious pie and a great tour of the old school house by a fabulous young gentleman who was very knowledgeable. It was one of our favorite stops in Alaska.

Boy do I wish I was fishing there right now! I haven't been fishing in 10 years now, since I lived up in Washington. Loved fishing, caught a lot of Trout lake fishing, but spent many hours in the freezing cold trying to catch a Steelhead. They were being caught all around me (not like your video, every once in a while), but it was never ment for me to catch my own. They are definitely mighty tasty fish, for sure!!!
Loved this video so much, thank you, Lauren for taking us all along!!! 🌼

So glad you enjoyed coming along. I had not been fishing like this in a long time and really enjoyed it. I have caught a couple of steelhead before (in Yakutat Alaska), it was really tricky. Have a wonderful weekend!

Hey Hamm Family. Thank you Lauren for sharing these little excursions. So much fun. Bennett is Fisherman Extraordinare. All the boys are. Watching them fish with their Grandpa and Dad made me think of all the fishing (Widemouth Bass) I did with my Dad in the lake they lived on. Good memories. Sadly, we lost him, age 86yo, last September. I really miss him. Cherish every moment your Dad is with you.
It was so nice to hear the history of Hope. I love historical sites. We have many historical sites in Virginia, like: Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. Always fun to learn the history around you.
Glad you made it home safely. Take care. Yah's Blessings and Shabbat Shalom ❤️

Bennett really got into the fishing this trip! He was so excited to show off his skills to us. I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. I am sure the grief is still very strong. Thank you for the reminder to cherish this time we have with Grandma and Grandpa. Did you know I was born in Virginia!? We moved when I was one but we went back several times when I was younger to visit. I hope to take the boys when they are a little older. So much history. Thanks for watching Susan, I appreciate you being here. I also enjoyed reading your e-mail back this week!

@@ThisAlaskaLife , thank you for your kind words. The pain never goes away, but the memories make it not so bad ❤️
I remember you saying you were born in Virginia. What part? My Husband is the Virginia boy. He was born and grew up in the Hampton Roads area mostly. We've lived in North, Mathews now Chatham. We have Family in Newport News, Gloucester/Ark, Blackstone, Stuart's Draft to name a few. I'm a Georgia/Florida girl. Born in Covington, Georgia, the home of The Dukes of Hazzard and In the Heat of the Night. I was raised in Jacksonville, Florida and my folks had lake property in Hawthorne. I still have Family in Georgia and Florida, including my Mom. Nice to visit, but in no hurry to move back. I hate hot, humid weather. During the hot summers I insist that we move to the North Pole. LoL. I have an Autumn Soul 🍂
Okay, well, that was a mouthful. Y'all take care and have a lovely weekend 🙂

You are amazing. Your video on Hope Alaska was so wonderful. It brought back memories of when I was younger fishing with my dad in Utah for trout. We never threw the fish back. We took all that we fought and froze for later. We also cooked some of the trout over the campfire for dinner or breakfast. I wish some day to go to Alaska.

Hello Rhonda! Thanks for coming along. We donated several salmon to the wildlife conservation center to feed to the bears. Pink salmon that are not out in the ocean are not very good meat. The meat is mushy and does not freeze well. We have so many other options when it comes to salmon ( we catch kings, reds, and silvers) that we choose not to keep the pinks.

Like the wood burning pot belly stove also the wood burning the cook top and oven. He did convert the cook top and oven to oil in the seventies. Makes me miss home.😥😢😭 We also do not like pink salmon 😒 We are not aloud by law that we cannot use a barbed hooks for salmon fishing. Curious are you able to in Alaska 🤔🤔🤔

When we are out and about I use a gopro, it’s the most durable with having kids use the camera. I use a program called Camtasia to edit

Boy would my guys love to go to hope and catch all the feisty pink salmon. They love to muskie fish for that reason. Lauren what's the name or type of go pro do you use? It's a really good one whatever it's called. Thanks for sharing this video with us.

Hello! It really was so fun to catch the pink salmon, now I know why the boys are so excited to go all the time. My personal favorite is the gopro8, I have 2 of them. They now have the gopro10 but I have not got one of those yet.

Beautiful country you have over there. In New Zealand we only eat pink salmon. Red salmon too expensive.

Beautiful road trip! Your little one isn't secure in that carseat with his straps all twisted like that. And I know as a momma it has broken my heart not to bring one of my kids home. I'd absolutely be devastated for you to experience similar.

Thank you for the important reminder. I need to be more diligent, every time we get in the car. I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for reaching out with kindness on such an important topic!

Appreciate the tour and beautiful landscapes. Good there isn't a canner close by to deplete the salmon population.

Thankfully Alaska salmon are highly regulated to keep the populations healthy! Thanks for watching!

I love all your videos. May I ask why you do not eat pink salmon?

    • @ThisAlaskaLife
      @ThisAlaskaLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hello! It is a personal preference for us. We fish a lot in the summer and king, red, and silver salmon have a much better taste, texture, and last longer in the freezer. Pink salmon is just not as good in our opinion when we have so many others to choose from. We will eat a really fresh pink salmon that is fresh out of the ocean but other than that, we choose to pass.

Why don't you eat Pink Salmon? Never mind, you answered it just as I typed it! Pink salmon seems to be the kind that I buy for salmon patties.

Just a preference. The other salmon taste so much better, especially when frozen. Thanks for watching!

We have enough king, red, and silver salmon. We didn't need to keep the pink salmon. It doesn't stay as nice in the freezer. Get's really mushy and not as good of flavor. It is just our personal preference.
