    I followed this video and was able to successfully repair my Note 4. It charges perfectly now and everything still works. I was quoted $230 to fix this phone and was told that there was a 99% chance I would destroy it if I tried to fix it myself. This video was a lifesaver.
    I will emphasize that it is SUPER important to take your time with the heat gun and let the adhesive get nice and melted before you try to force anything. Go low and slow, get in there with the plastic guitar pick tool, and it will pop right out of the frame, but if you try to apply force before the adhesive is softened then you will probably just end up breaking your screen.
    Remember the one screw on the motherboard and the one screw on the charge port. Remember to disconnect and reattach all flex cables and antennas so you don't break things while trying to fix your phone.
    Be careful removing the connectors for the old charge port as they're probably stuck on there pretty good. Go low and slow again with the heat gun, gently pry the screen away just enough to give yourself room to work, and slowly and carefully peel away the connectors. Make sure you don't tear the flex cable/rubber attachments away leaving the sticky contacts stuck to the inside of the phone, or you will have to scrape them off to be able to attach the new charge port.
    The contacts for the new charge port need to be placed just right in order for the phone to charge. If you reassemble the phone and it's not charging, or it's trying to charge but displaying an error symbol on the screen, then the contacts are not placed correctly. You will need to carefully take the phone back apart, fold the charge port back down (being extremely careful not to tear the flex cables), peel the connectors back off to remove the new charge port, and try to install it again, taking great care to line up the two holes on the charge port with the two raised areas on the phone and to place the contacts exactly where they're supposed to go.
    If you've installed your new charge port but your screen isn't turning on, don't panic just yet. There's a good chance that your screen is unplugged from the motherboard, and applying gentle but firm pressure to the upper portion of the motherboard over the two connection sites will allow it to reconnect.

    1:59 You glazed over the critical LCD removal step. Understand you've done it before and it would have taken a little effort to cover how you did it. Just saying "give a little heat" and popping your previously completed example apart doesn't convey how to perform this step without ruining the cell phone. I only watched this video as it had the most views. Thank goodness there are much better videos on TH-cam.

    Sadly I agree with a number of others, the area that is important (the bit being worked on) often drifts out of frame so we can't see what is happening, and the camera auto focus hunts in and out making the working area impossible to see clearly.

    NEVER watch just one video of how to do any repair. There are several reasons for that. This video demonstrates one by just showing fingers instead of what is being done for part of the repair, which should have caused the person to edit the video, but he apparently thought the work in question was obvious. What is obvious though to an experienced repair technician is not obvious to everyone. The other reason to watch the repair being done by different people is you may discover convenient shortcuts or tricks. One I looked at without audio was so unclear and speeded up that I couldn't tell if the technician was using a rubber tool to break the glue seals or a heat gun. It is also a good idea to watch at least one of the relevant repair videos before buying the parts, since it is clear I should replace the glass at the same time and the part did not come with glue to reseal the front of the phone, which no doubt provides some protection from such as light rain.

    I followed this tutorial (in addition to one other which showed more clearly what to do) as precisely as I could. I took my time with EVERY detail and somehow my screen won't turn on now. In addition to that, my phone seems to be in an infinite boot loop where it pretends it's turning on but simply can't. Unfortunately, the phone is now trash. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND GET THIS REPAIRED PROFESSIONALLY! I understand this won't happen to everyone, but damn... I thought I was doing it exactly right!

      Everyone learns by doing repairs, including the professionals. The repair would have cost you as much as to buy the same Note 4 over again, so you have lost only the cost of the part even if you do not figure out what you did slightly different. (Those black screws are almost certainly grounding screws that are vital to reinstall. I learned the importance of grounding on my very first computer which came in kit form and did not include enough grounding cables.) It also pays like some viewers did to watch more than one video of the repair, since each may have different emphasis and failures in recording the actual key work. My own guess is you did not properly align the buttons before the glue step. If so you can salvage the phone with a new part and more care, or spend the cost of the professional repair to replace the phone. Phones improve so fast even the cheapest new one is likely faster, but I want to do the repairs to learn, since I already on one phone spent $60 just to get an estimate when in fact the type of repair needed was not even a service offered by the shop.

    • @walterjohnson5602
      @walterjohnson5602 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scottbrackett5033 I suspect it is also possible he did not check the alignment of the buttons before glueing the part down since what he is describing I believe can be caused by a stuck button, which even causes problems on soda vending machines.

    Great video, Just what I have been looking for. This is what separates a normal tech from a smart tech. Most people I asked said I would have to separate the entire screen assembly from the midframe, which if you have had to replace the screen assembly on a note 4 you have seen the copper foil on the s pen sensor is glued to the mid frame and it is a pain to remove without damage to the foil.

    After chaning the micro USB board, fast charging not appears. And the charging is very slow. Slower than normal charging. Perhaps only 400mA, 500mA "safety charging"?!?
    Slower charging than discharging with active system and energy safe mode O_o.

    Hi, I have a question. I picked up my phone (note 4) from repair (professional place), charging port replacement. I am not very happy. Entire bottom of the screen is lifted above the frame, it is flexing and home button is below the screen surface. Can something be done with this?, or entire screen has to be replaced. Thanks in advance.

    Damn. Broke my digitizer doing this. My sammy was 100% working minus the back camera. Oh well.
