    I'm no novice for phone repair. I've worked on every generation of Iphone, S3-S6, and the Note 2 and 3 along with a handful of HTC and Motorola phones. I was a little intimidated by the daughterboard replacement because I didn't want to risk getting a new screen when I still have the factory screen in my Note4. Thanks to your tutorial I'm more confident in this repair. Thank you very much!

    Jerry, 1st off thanks for doing this video..it is much more concise than others I watched, you speak clearly and describe things well, with confidence. Unlike that guy (android blah blah),, not sure what I am doing, etc. scary.. Ok, so here is my question for you, or any viewers(or phone repair professionals): I dropped my Samsung Note 4, face down with no cover or protection, other than a thin flimsy screen protector (cheap one) the screen had a hairline crack, very thin and about 3 inches long ..all the buttons still worked , and the phone rings, but I had no display.. I ordered a lcd/digitizer/glass from a phone repair store,, and it was guess what CRACKED, either they sent me junk, or it was damaged during shipping.. in any case, that one has a smaller crack than mine, and the phone was already apart.. I connected it, and I have the same issue,, touch screen SEEMS to work, but has no backlight.. so I ask is backlight a separate issue? or is there is even slight damage, do they not light up? thanks in advance..

      NJtrainer With Samsung screens the back light is built into the LED. So if the LED ever cracks, there is a good chance that the backlight will go out with it. It sounds like you should send back the one you bought, and tell them how it arrived. If you need new replacement parts, check in the video description for my suppliers.

    Great video.... However
    I noticed how you edited and shorten the video @ 6:19 where you connected the touch & LCD connections to the back of the main board. I'm stuck there.
    What's the best way to get them connected?

    Thank you so much for this video. This is very informative. I dropped my phone in the toilet but I got it out quickly and tried to dry it as much as I can. The phone still works, but the speaker is obviously damaged. Which part would you recommend to replace the speaker? I tried to replace the midframe (with a new attached loudspeaker in it), but that did not help. Hope you can help. Thank you.

    Hello. a great video and I really appreciate how clear you make things. My Note 4 is cold dead and I don't think it's a charging port issue because a local shop tried a new battery and it won't boot up. Any suggestions of what to replace? Or should I just sell it for scraps. It's in beautiful cosmetic condition otherwise.

    Jerry, first of all, thank you very much for your video! I came upon it searching how to replace parts on my SM-N910C, and yours was completely in-depth, which is nice!
    I have a question, my friend: I lost my IMEI through some flashing of ROMs, and someone suggested that I replace the motherboard to get a new IMEI. Would replacing the motherboard work - and, if so, where can I find one? Is there anything else that I should replace?

    Question: For the previous models such as the Note 3. The frame for the verizon and sprint models are identical, as well as t-mobile and at&t models. With the note 4, people are saying that the sprint frame version does not fit on the verizon one, basically making the CDMA versions non interchangeable. Is this true? Or can we still use the Sprint Version on the Verizon phone?
    Thank you

    I ‘successfully’ replaced my screen however the new screen doesn’t work. The first time I restarted the phone, I cut it on without the s pen foil installed because I didn’t see it under the old screen. Does s pen foil provides like electrical grounding? Phone works fine connected to tv. Should I buy a new screen or could it be a motherboard problem even though everything except black display works perfect?

    Hey, I know this video is already old, but it brought me some great insight on how the Note4 is built. So thank you for that. I also like that Lego comparison ;)
    I have a serious question though. I have a Note4 in front of me which suffers from random reboots and sometimes losing data, e.g. reboots and wants to make a new setup. I have sent it in for repairs, but the shop told me they cannot get a hold of the spare parts needed. They tried to replace the motherboard.
    The question I want to ask is: Do you know a good place where I can get this? I am sure I can exchange the board myself, but I want a quality part of course. Perhaps you can help me with this endeavour.
    Thanks in advance for any response.

    +JerryRigEverything I followed your steps but my screen is not turning on. Could you tell me if the torn copper film is responsible for it or that is for s-pen? Phone is getting charged and the capacitive buttons are also lighting up and it is giving a vibration when I swipe the home button(for fingerprint sensor) but the screen is not lighting up. Please let me know at the earliest. Thank you.

      Inspect your display panel for any hairline cracks (not the screen, the LCD under it). If it has so much as a microscopic crack, it will malfunction, or fail altogether. If there are no cracks, check that the ribbon cables are sufficiently connected to the motherboard.

    Thanks for the very helpful video. I noticed that the Galaxy S4, S5, Note 3, and Note 4 (perhaps others) have their own specific charging port model. Why is that? I've used a Sprint charging port on the Verizon S4, S5, and Note 4 motherboards, and it seems to work fine. What's different about these carrier specific charging port boards?
    Also, I've just done my first couple of Note 4's. After reassembling both units, it looks like the S-Pen is unresponsive (can't write on screen), but both phones detect when the S-Pen is removed and replaced from its slot. Can you tell me what I may be missing here? Also, what's the easiest way of putting the motherboard back into a new housing without having to separate the AMOLED screen from the middle frame? I believe the only reason this needs to be done is if you need to replace the charging port or if you want to make sure the 2 ribbon cables at the top is securely attached to the board. Is there an easier way to attach the 2 ribbon cables at the top?
    Thanks again for your tutorials!!! Very helpful indeed!

    I'm replacing a charging port because the recent apps button has a damaged flex cable. The entire screen assembly is good but my concern is removing it from the midframe without tearing the stylus flex ribbon cable (the big copper foil adhered to the midframe). Can you link to where I can purchase the stylus flex ribbon cable and even better, show how to replace the usb charging port and two flex buttons without damaging the existing stylus flex cable? Or is it just inevitable that the stylus flex ribbon cable will be damaged during this process?

    Don't forget to keep the camera window clean of fingerprints. I thought I was doing swell. Replaced the SIM card reader, the USB charging port and the home button. I tried to reboot it to test the components by just plugging in the screen before reassembly. Bummer no boot screen. Just a blue flashing light and the vibration buzzer chiming start. So my guess is that I was too rough on the mother board when I attached the charging port wire harness. I heard a click while I was trying to attach the harness. I did not heed your advise to remove the board first. I ended up doing it the way you said but I think that is why it won't boot.

      JerryRigEverything I have three batteries, the Samsung original and two after market batteries. I've tried to turn it on with two of them but not the third. I'll try that next.
      The charging port DOES allow the phone to charge, I think. However now that you mention it something has changed about charging the battery while it's in the phone. The large battery symbol that should appear on the screen while it's charging does not do so any longer. A green light does appear in the upper lefthand corner of the phone though, after the battery has reached 100% charge. At least I'm assuming that's what the green light means. I'll charge the battery inside the phone and then take it out and plug it into the base charger and see if it reads 100% charged.
      Is it likely that the mainboard is bad? Is that fairly common? Have you ever heard of that happening?
      Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be that something with the charging port is messing up. That would explain the lack of 'battery charging' indication. Its really hard to say though. Charging port would be my first guess... but if the phone is semi functioning right now, I wouldnt risk opening it up until stops working completely and you have no other option. (Just keep all your stuff backed up.)

    Great video and much better than that one that someone else made that was 44 min long!
    I cracked my back camera glass and I finally got the replacement (it was back ordered) - even though it was just the glass that broke I bought the entire camera, just in case. It was $33 in total with shipping.
    Question - I do not have a hot gun, would a hair dryer suffice?
    For those who want to know where I got the camera it was from parts4repair.com

      Did you have a hard time putting the phone back together? I got a replacement camera too but now my phone wont power on. I've watched the video a million times and reassembled the mother board like 20 times!

      Davendra Upreti Hi. Were you able to put your Note 4 back together?
      Did you need double sided tape or some kind of adhesive?
      Thanx

    Hey, my screen cracked but the LCD and touch still works. Is there a way of replacing the screen without LCD? I bought a screen though realised it did not have the 'Lego' wires after - could I use my old screen connectors to attach them together?
    thank you

    Hi, I replaced the power, volume and home button and changer port all at once. Everything works now but the touch screen. Any idea what to check? Never had that problem before. S pen also still works, just not touch.

    I have a question. ...for some reason the back light on the "back button" of my note 4, no longer lights up. It used to, before I opened to make repairs. Every other button lights up fine and eveything seems to be working properly. .including the back button. ..just no backlight. What do you think it could be?

    Appreciate the detailed video but if only it were this simple.... I bought the charging port board on Amazon for about $9. But I just bricked my Note 4 after carefully following this and other charging port replacement videos. And I'm pretty adept at detailed repair jobs, but it all went wrong after heating up the screen then trying to pry to backplate off - that's when I realized I had separated the glass from the LCD which I now know is a big no-no, and must have broke a connection because now my screen is dead- glass is not cracked but screen is dead. Then in desperation I tried to complete the backplate removal process but the glue on my Note 4 is too stubborn and I made it worse. Since I had everything backed up prior, I'll just fire up another phone. Take my advice and don't attempt this unless you have all your data backed up and are prepared to shitcan your Note 4.

    My note 4 screen got cracked but fortunately, my touch is absolutely fine and working well at each corner...So do I need to replace the whole LCD + Digitizer and front glass(Damn! it's costly) or only front glass would work (10-15$)??
    Thanks!!

    It's 2018, and I need another Note 4 motherboard. It's the T-Mobile variation, SM-N910T. I'd like a nice, solid replacement source, please. RepairsUniverse doesn't carry one, unfortunately...

    in the process of me separating the screen from the body of the phone i ripped the copper foil. is that a problem ?? or would everything still work ?

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** It should still work, just piece the copper back together as best as possible. (copper touching copper.)

    • @Max.527
      @Max.527 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also ripped copper, doesn't really matter. It's used for spen functionality. Doesn't hinder anything.

    After replacing new screen , its not sealing properly. May be have to put sealing tape inside to stick the glass to chasis.?

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Menuka Gunawardana Yes! Putting tape on the back of the LCD and the back of the glass to stick it to the frame is important.
