The scene of the "smiling Silver" cloud at the end had me choking back tears. I've watched this movie so many times as a kid I just can't live with the fact that it's so underrated
"Treasure Planet" is definetly one of the most underappreciated movies Disney's made and not only because of the great musical performance it contains. The studio took a very bold approach with its original interpretation of the novel and a closer examination of the relation between Silver and James Hawkings. Well done, for posting this!
Silver: "What say you ship out with us, lad? You and me, Hawkins and Silver, full of ourselves and not ties to ANYONE!" Jim: "You know, when I got on this boat, I would've taken you up on that offer in a second. But I met this this old cyborg. Who taught me that I could chart me own course... that's what I'll do." Silver: "And what do you see, of that pal of yours?" Jim: "A future." Silver: *Chuckles* "Why, look at ya. Glowin' like a solar fire. You're something special Jim. You're going to rattle the stars, you are!" 17 year old me: *Chokes up like a small child.*
When I found out Silver was the bad guy, I wanted to cry. When he ended up a good guy again, I wanted to cheer. When he left, I cried, begging for him to come back. I'm not the only one who went through this right?
Turbo7334 quite possible there could be, it won’t be made in the same way though. Disney’s live action remakes are being really successful at the moment and there’s a good possibility that treasure planet is in line for one. If it’s successful I bet they’ll make a sequel. Also there’s a game which tells the story of the sequel that was never released.
@@randyvines1497 I call bullshit. Considering they released this clearly summer movie in winter next to the first Harry Potter movie and The Santa Clause 2, they wanted this movie to fail at the box office so they could have another reason to shut down the traditional animation studio... Besides they are only doing live action versions of movies that did good at the box office. In short. WE. ARE. NEVER. GETTING. A. SEQUEL. IN. LIVE. ACTION. Let alone a game!
My grandmother recorded Treasure Planet and Atlantis on one old video cassette and everytime my familiy visited her, my sister and I would watch both movies in a row, because we loved them so much! Great childhood memories :3
I'm writing a book right now, and as I listen to this track I keep thinking, and hoping, that when my book gets made into a movie the soundtrack will be as special as this one. I know it's a long shot for so many reasons, but an author can dream, right?
I can totally relate! I myself am a writer, and I want to make something of my dreams. Just keep going for it, and let no one hold you back. I myself will not stop until my work is successful, or I will die trying.
Reyna Stevenson I am also writing a book! But since my career is game design I’m wanting to turn mine into a video game one day. Of course that’s when I finish it, it’s suppose to be a trilogy. But don’t let man that is what you will get I can promise you work hard. We’ll get there some day.
I am going to graduate in May, but I have gone to my school since Kindergatern and all my classmates are like my family and best friends. As much as it hurts me to leave them, this song will always play as the happy memories we had together. Class of 2023, I hope you realize that you were the highlight of my day, and you always put a smile on my face, like this song. I will miss each and every one of you dearly.
both Silver and Jim became such pure spirits of freedom, the embodiment of a wild frontier full to bursting with unsung potential and abundant futures. How like Morphy they were, shapeless and unbound, masters of their destinies no matter what the great starry skies said.. really gets me right here, this part, 'cuz I mean.. we'll be out in the great adventure of discovery again soon, once we dirt-clung earthlings leap to the stars and skies~!
Thanks for the kudos! The waves of adventure come and go, but to catch them and turn their strange pace into music.. Jim-bo Howard really found it in this time. Glowin' like a solar flare~
When that flute hits at 1:26, I cry. And when I say "I cry", I mean it! This year was so rough to me, and this remind me of the time life was simple to me. Even as a child who loves music and have study it all the time, I could never comprehend the truly sentimental feelings this song can transmit.
+Super Hooper It was going to have a sequel, but it ended up bombing at the box office (it had Harry Potter AND Lord of the Rings to compete against) and because of that the studio lost about $79,000,000 and became one of Walt Disney Studios second biggest losses, so the sequel was cancelled unfortunately.
Do you remember what did you feel when you were dreaming in the middle of the night? When you have tried to fly or when you were scared of falling and then suddenly you woke up? For me this music is real embodiment of that feeling
2020 and I don’t yet understand why this movie was a failure🥺. It’s one my favorites of all times♥️. 3:15 still makes me cry. Silver leaving but now Jim has a smile:’)
Why do all the movies that deserve sequels don't get any? Why not Iron Giant 2, Treasure Planet 2? Why are we stuck with Little Mermaid or Aladdin sequels? It just isn't fair.. :( 4:26 my fave part
Well actually, in order for Treasure Planet to get a sequel, they needed to make $110 million in the box office, but ended up making $109.6 million. I got so upset when I saw this. They got so unbelievably close but in the end just didn't make it.
+TheFunPop Exactly, same thing here. And what makes it worse is that it was made in 2002, so there chances of there being a sequel is basically slim to none. :'^/
Silver had to leave. He was a wanted man, and upon returning to the spaceport, he would have been tried as a pirate, and either imprisoned for the rest of his life, or hanged. If the parallels to 18th century England are as close in this universe as they seem, he would almost definitely have been hanged, as he was the leader of the mutiny. And that's not counting the crimes he committed prior to the events of the movie. He had to leave, or he was toast.
My favorite Disney movie ever. Bugs Life was my 'go to' film as a child but when this came out I fell inlove with it. If anyone asks whats my favorite Disney movie today, this is it here. I think this is where i got my sense of 'adventure' from.
Don lovely, I know you’re now resting peacefully, no more pain in your lungs, But I’m sorry I wasn’t there in the end. you always saw me as your adoptive son, And taught me everything a man must know, from cooking his own meals, shaving, driving and even tying a tie. I never stopped thinking about you and not a year goes by when I am not in tears missing you. I didn’t grow up with a father but you’ll always be my dad. I’ll rattle the stars for you. just wanted a small corner to show my appreciation for you. This song always reminds me of you. Thank you, for putting up with this crazy kid. I love you dad.
That full OST playlist was one hell of a ride, just the music already made me feel so many emotions much like the film. Damn. i knew it was good, but THIS good is amazing.

Truly a pity it wasn't appreciated for the masterpiece it is
couldn't agree more.
This is 1 of my most favourite disney origins and I don't care what people say only think about this film I love it
Maybe with Disney's return to 2d animation treasure planet can be revived

Hikaru Hitachiin Well said
+Hikaru Hitachiin If you had read the book.... You would have known these things xD
Hanna Person All this was when I was like... 6 xD I hated reading back then
Silver's evilness actually gets exposed numerous times before those touching scenes with him and Jim Hawkins.
They cancelled Treasure planet 2
Every time when silver says “your something special, Jim.” I start to tear up
Whoa.
This movie is so underrated that it's just depressing ;n;
Would have loved to see a sequel..

+GranthTheGreen dam shame cheers for info perhaps if Disney make star wars work they can invest in some old gems like this film.
+GranthTheGreen what was Disney's biggest loss then if Treasure Planet is only the second one?
Mars Needs Moms was their biggest loss, lost them about $130,500,000 I think.
ouch...
Silver, the father figure Jim needed. To chart is own course. 19 years old, and having tiny tears...
Im 21 years old and will probbaly never stop tearing up on this moment.
The father figure we all need, at times
Jim's growth process and his friendship with Silver were so beautiful!

The trailers apparently sucked, focused too hard on Ben as if he was a main character from the start, and gave away Silver being the twist villain.
to say i bawled my eyes out at this scene is an understatement. :'(((
Thanks Brian Murray 🕊️

I dont understand how can such a great movie be so underated and is one of the biggest losses... :(
cause of a few other filmms which came out the same year before it and got head starts which left this masterpiece behind
Not enough people that wanted the demand to see it. That and what zeoking silver has said.

Catching the rays off of this movie still today!
criminally underrated film and soundtrack
Watching this years ago as a young boy it was pretty touching. Even now this movie holds a special place in my heart.
My favorite Disney movie and score since childhood. This movie inspired me to keep following my dreams in art. I'm rusty, but I'm still trying.

This is much sadder than mufassa dying because the relationship between Jim and Silver is much more developed
4:24 best part where I start dancing
by far
I like the transition from emotional to upbeat. Great transition from crying inside which I hate to feeling happy again.
