I love this movie! The idea of taking the classic novel Treasure Island and turning it into a sci-fi adventure was a stroke of genius. Not to mention Jim Hawkins is probably one of the Disney guys I have the biggest crush on (he's voice by the awesome Joseph Gordon-Levitt come on).
I know this comment is 5 years old but I totally relate to this. :D I would never tell my husband but now that I revisit the Story I see he is very much like Jim ;D ♥
I knew a guy at uni (who was in the same major) who looked EXACTLY like Jim Hawkins! ☺️ I mean he has the SAME haircut and everything, so I have the biggest crush on him! 😍
Those first seconds reminded me of How to train your dragon sooo badly. Absolutely beautiful and peaceful. A very underrated movie though. It's so sad. This movie taught me lots of things when I was a child.
emeline t I personally think this movie is WAY better than How to Train Your Dragon. 2d animation is always better because it's more painstaking work than 3D, that just shows all the effort they put into it.
@@1993seanmcg Funny enough, this film used both 3D and 2D animation to its benefit. Many of the most amazing and breathtakingh scenes are made using a technique called Deep Canvas, where a 3D surface is painted over by 2D artists. Its very expensive, but worth every penny.
***** i know. i admit it. maybe frozen it's an -good- movie, but full 3D animations aren't cool anymore (for me). it's like we are getting a lil bit older, remember our parents saying "80's? Yeah, that's was such great music! Not like now". Well, that's happening :( haha
There wasn't very much advertising for it because a director quit. However, the movie is still under his name, so the new director didn't want to show off what seemed like someone else's work. Shame. This is one of my favorite movies of all time
The release was effectively sabotaged. Treasure Planet was critically acclaimed but used a lot of very expensive traditional animation and Disney was eager to move on to 3D animation, so to avoid interest in the old ways experiencing a resurgence, they released it alongside Christmas blockbusters that it couldn't hope to compete with and spoiled much of the plot in its trailer, losing tonnes of money and effectively shooting themselves in the foot. Which is a shame - beyond the obvious reasons - as the creators had in fact been promised the opportunity to make a sequel before it bombed.
those first 30 seconds certaintly give off that inspirational vibe. It makes me wanna go to the beach and watch the sunset. i wish it were a real celtic melody
@@vanishingpointpro.7616 It's weird to say that the advertising was bad. I was immediately hooked by the first teaser trailer (The one that came on the Monsters Inc. VHS). I also remember playing the battle at procyon demo that came with the McDonalds happy meal promotion for the movie.
I'll never forget seeing this film back in theaters when I was 9. Sadly, I remember being the only one in my class who saw the film, and some kids told me I was "lame" for seeing it. Oh how they missed out on such a great film...
I was about six seeing this in theaters. This film was breathtaking to watch. 2:02 really felt badass when Jim Hopkins is blazing through that automatic grind machine .
Hey man, same. Wish I had met someone like John Silver. Or, had someone with a treasure map crash down in our very small garden, hah. Or... just a hover board would've been nice. Hope I can make my mom proud too some day, like Jim.

Ari quinn lol well I still want a spacey board, and breathable air in space would totally make my day so that I could actually use my spacey board and AWWWWWW GOSH DANG IT! I NEVER MENTALLY PROGRESSED FROM AGE FIVE!
Actually, it wouldn't be that hard. I can't really back this up, but I reckon we're only maybe a century or two off. The bit that I had the hardest time figuring out the purpose of were the sails, but I came to the conclusion that they are some form of helium collector, and then the engine is essentially a fission reactor, converting the helium-4 gathered with the sails into helium-3, which would create a LOT of energy, which could then be used in conjunction with Ion engines to create the propulsion. This also supports the colouration of the expelled fuel, as the majority of ion engines (we have currently) use Xenon as their fuel, and this creates a blue glow, similar to the one in the movie. However, Ion engines aren't particularly powerful, and so wouldn't create the acceleration found in the ships in the movie. This (as well as the fact that the crew is still alive by the time they reach any other planet) means that there must be some way of FTL travel, however, judging from the lack of any indication of this, it seems that the universe that the movie occurs in is simply much smaller.
Matthew Gavin Yeah, that's the main flaw with my theory. It's the only thing I could think of though besides solar panels, and they really don't seem to work like solar panels with how the ship accelerates when they're unfurled.
Osiris Black Its a good song but not really like the first 30 seconds of this one, its really the violin that makes it. Silver Leaves is more wind instruments. Thanks for suggesting it though.

if I have ever in my life heard a more beautiful instrument than the violin, i do not remember it. The sound of the violin, it touches your soul, the few heavenly sounds you can hear in this very song, make you grateful that you can experience such a sound... we have gone too far away from our senses, with technology and everything, we have forgotten what it is like to touch, smell, see and even though these are not all of the senses... to hear, for I think that music and sound, just like our sight, is a way to our soul... I wish every single person who read this, a most beautiful life and a wonderful day! :)
