This is one of those songs that no matter who tries to do and no matter how well they can sing the song it will not measure up to Ray Charles version. You can always feel his passion down to the beat of your heart when listening to him.
I'm a baby bommer. I went to Wood Stock 1969. Stayed through all of it!. I Put up with the filthy grounds, the nasty toliets, & lack of proper food & drink. It was all worth it! I was in college in the early 70's,out of college for Disco. I grew up listening to Ray Charles LIVE on television. I say with full confidence my generation produced the greatest Rock Artists & Rock N' Roll Bands in the entire history of Rock N' Roll! NO ONE, NO BAND has yet to even equal my generation's Rock N Roll!!!
Ray Charles clearly defined the word "Genius" in the world of music for all times. His greatness deeply touches the hearts and souls of musicians and music lovers now and forever.
Hey guize I'm still in the womb and I love Ray Charles... don't know many other fetuses that enjoy Ray Charles but I know all I can listen to is REAL music :)
I love this song, I never get bored of this song, I can hear it like 200 times and I never get bored is just cool... I love it (again) Ray was the best...
This is a real song. This is a song that talks right to the heart, this is the song that makes you think, this is the song that makes you feel. This, this is a song.
Why can't we make music of this quality today??? Has this art been lost??? Or have we been exposed to so much crap called music we have forgotten was quality is??? Love ya Ray !!!
i have 20 years I'm from Mexico, this artist is not my day, but since I heard this song and their other songs, I keep hearing it, rest in peace Mr. Ray Charles.
+David Hathaway first excuse my english but Im totally agree with you, but is the best way to know that there are a lot of people in this word without head and feelings
Georgia my home land of the free I travel all over as a truck driver and never seen a better place so full of love and Beuty Georgia is more than on my mind it's forever in my heart
I just love Ray, soulful and unforgettable. I listened to all Ray's music (blues) since I was young. I'm 70 and still loving him and his music. RIP Ray, miss you.
Ray Charles, in practically all the world's top music magazines, is consistently rated in the TOP 3 SINGERS of ALL TIME. His piano playing is practically flawless. Yes, he is blind, but his pure talent is still unbeaten and probably won't be for a very long time.
Very well said! Such talent, such sadness. I saw him perform live in New Orleans, many moons ago. A frail man with an indomitable spirit. We miss you Ray!
In 1960 when this song came out, it played every night over and over at the student lounge at App State. I fell in love with the song and the music from this great artist. Despite his blindness, he was able to accomplish more than most people with sight - and with two very big 'handicaps' - his color and his blindness.
Don't get why people just can't appreciate such a talent, it amazes me everyday the passion Ray Charles had with music. With so many disadvantages due to the color of his skin and going blind at the age of 7, he was able to chase his dreams and influence the dreams of others, his a inspiration for my generation and the future generation upcoming. Arguably the best pianist in the world and heaven Ray Charles.
I'm 16 too, and love Ray Charles and many of the 'Oldie' artists, I'm a producer and they are my inspiration to when it comes to producing music, but everyone laughs when i say this. At least there is another 16 year old who understands what such talent Ray Charles had.
Gracias!!
Brilliant! I prefer it to the recorded version with the strings-and -chorus .He had just the best voice ever . and I love the flute accompaniment, thanks for posting .
Unlike so much of black music which is incomprehensible to a wider audience, Ray Charles expressed it without bitterness which ALL CAN APPRECIATE. For half a century and more all we see and hear about the South was animosity and bitterness, but with him he expressed the goodness and warmth between Southern People of all kinds.
I love this song and I’m only 22. Couldn’t help but notice this video was uploaded not even 7-8 months after TH-cam was created… making this one of the oldest videos on TH-cam. What are the odds
The music part of the song was composed by Hoagy Carmichael (a man who conducted an orchestra, which traveled around from town to town, and was quite popular back in the 30's and 40's). He also wrote Heart and Soul (the best known cover is by the Cleftones around 1960), and is most famous for writing Stardust (covered by almost everyone). The lyric was written Stuart Gorrell (a fellow student at Indiana University) about the object of Gorrell's affection, Georgia Carmichael (Hoagy's sister).
i think there is music from every generation that is good but honestly no other can give me that amazing feeling listening to his music than ray charles
the greatest! I was lucky enough to be get a photojournalist pass at one of his concerts back in dah day(circa 1980's but he goes back to 1950's as a star). I saw him backstage. What a nice guy. He granted a picture of my sister with him. I was so happy I left my flash off but had enough ambient light to get a fuzzy picture anyway. My shots of him while performing were ok but I never met a performer so kind, and thats what rattled me backstage. god rest his soul and may his spirit still inspire us. He said he loved the "hillbilly" music. Thats why a good portion of his recordings were written by country western song writers and performers(e.g.I Can't Stop Loving You by Don Gibson) . Although Ray gave a piece of his mind to this sit in drummer for Ray's regular sick one. He was an egotistical prick from nyc, young guy, forget his name.
Probably the oldest version, but this is my favourite. Every time I return to this video, I feel emotion and nostalgy. This sweet swing is unmistakable. Ray Charles remains forever.
No one can write songs like this nowadays. We live in far too fast paced of a world, to do so today. We didn't experience the pain, that James Brown, Ray Charles and half of these old artists did. They didn't have food stamps bk then and free everything, you actually had to work hard, in order to eat and survive (or beg from your church). What a shocker that would be, to half of my lazy friends, if they had to live bk then and work hard and be thankful.
haters gonna hate. Doesn't matter what you all say. This man is amazing. Actually not to be cheesy or anything but, this man is legit my hero. It's amazing what he has had to endure to get where he was. I highly suggest his movie, Ray, it tells his whole life story and it is truly immaculate! I am 16 and in. love. with. him. Everybody needs to know who this man is. #oldiesaregoodies
Ray, like may other artists and their music are eternal. It dron't matter how old you are, music like this touches every generation. You are greatly missed Ray♥
AMAZING SONG!! I watched the movie last night and I just felt like listening to his songs. He is an amazing person. And what he went through...at least he stopped taking heroin shots and just played the music. RIP Ray Charles.
