As he grew up in the L.A. area, Daniel was heavily influenced by the blues greats Albert KIng, B.B. King, and Albert Collins. As a kid, Daniel would hang outside clubs like the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach to hear these blues legends perform and wait for a glimpse of them through the curtains. After cutting his teeth in South Central L.A. blues clubs with “Mighty Mouth” Delmar Evans, who worked with the Johnny Otis Show, Castro backed other great artists from Otis’ band, including Pee Wee Crayton and Little Esther Phillips. He also recorded and toured with many other artists including legendary Small Faces singer-bassist Ronnie Lane.

The thing that a lot of people don't get or understand is just because it's called the blues doesn't mean you have to be in a sad or depressive state to listen to it or play it. Sometimes even the "bluesiest" blues song can be one heckuva pick me up. It's definitely a genre of mood music and the same song you listen to one day to really pick you up may very well be the same song you want to listen to when you're down and out. There's no other music like it in the world!!
True, in my native tongue we say "mwamuna sama Lila" means it's alright for a man to cry. We have a lot of people with emotions that can't let it out.

I went through the typical high school pop rock band stage in the 60's and then I heard Albert King on the radio at a party. I still remember the song "Laundromat Blues" and I was hooked. Been playing and touring the blues ever since. That was45 years ago, still on the road

I’m 77 years young and have been listening to the blues since I was 13 years old. I had an older sister who was into it so I stayed up listening to music. She was a record fanatic plus we could get the King Biscuit Flour Hour on the radio. The blues will last forever
