I’ve listened to Ray Charles nearly all of my life. I’m seventy eight and when he was a young man he sounded like an old man. That was part of his appeal. Listen to his songs from the fifties like DROWN IN MY OWN TEARS, MY BONNIE, A FOOL FOR YOU..etc You will see what I mean. No one has a voice as soulful and filled with joy and sorrow like Ray. Truly a genius.
I use to sing it to my Chispita, how she smiled and held her arms out to me. I also lost my beloved, but I know she waits for me in a better place. I know by your words that you probably had that type of smile. Take care and God bless.
Mommy yes... the only girl... my hold life through... what are we living for... if not for you😌 amen God bless... You've been loved darlin' 🙏's God Blesses everyone... And your still his nobody else but you... 😇🫡😌
In, oh, ‘85 we went up to Albany for the Oregon State Fair. Ray was scheduled to perform there. Just after noon we rounded a tent corner into a small stage and there was Ray pounding on a big black piano. We sat right down and only a few others were there. Later in the day we watched his big tour bus bouncing and lurching through the fields on the way out of there. We figured Ray was driving.
Ray charles is one of my favourite singers, I love this song in particular, it brings back alot of memories. Ray charles has this romantic voice this is the only way I can describe his voice. He gets me in such a mood of fantasy.
Have heard many versions of the song including the original by Chuck Willis but after listening to the Genius' cover, nobody else will do for me. R.I.P. Ray
For God's sake, it's Ray Charles ! Jazz Hall of Fame, Blues Hall of Fame, Country Music Hall of Fame, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ! Ray Charles music is American music !
I got to see Ray in Atlanta, with the full review including the Rayletts. What a time it was, when you could hear Ray or Elvis for $20.00 Elton John and Joe Cocker, for $6.00. A lot of bad things happened during the 60s an early 70s, but the music, was the best. Every generation has their art and their artists, but I believe that when the smoke clears this song and so many others from the time "Darlin do I ever cross your mind",will be the next great american songbook.
Great song. I love the Chuck Willis and Jerry Lee Lewis versions too which are excellent too and listening to them, I said this HAS to be a Ray Charles song too. Thankfully, I found out it is and Ray does it excellent.
@fayeroe1009 It's Chuck Willis and I'm sure glad there are others that remember Chuck Willis. He wrote many other songs before his un-timely death. "CLOSE YOUR EYES" by the Five Keys ESPECIALLY
Darling ....I'm Living Just for You ... forever ... to feel your lips on mine ....I want you close to me that's all I know .... ..... nobody else will ever do ... we will live~laugh~love~pray together as long as we both shall live .....yours always ....Sherri
so man good versions , I started with Percy sledge , but its an awesome song , and done by no AMTEUR but all great singers , either Ray , Conway or others
The Animals sound lazy like they don't care most of the time, and Chuck sounds like he was singing a song he didn't know how to feel or one that someone else explained to him. Not knocking your preference, but Percy Sledge... the man was heart wrenching, heartbreaking soul in every breath. It doesn't always matter which came first, or who wrote it. Take it easy, man.
Sad he cheated so many times, there is a whole school of ray Charles jr s snd same with Sam Cooke, couldn’t keep his pants up , they both broke their wife’s heart , Sam wax killed, ray died of old age , sadly missed, I love them both but Sam was so sexy

The original is by Solomon Burke, but you should hear the Van Morrision/Tom Jones verison, which is also a tear jerker.
Have heard many versions of the song including the original by Chuck Willis but after listening to the Genius' cover, nobody else will do for me. R.I.P. Ray

Clarence Gatemouth Brown's version on which he plays a fiddle solo is my favourite version. Even though Ray is one of my all time favourite singers.
You should hear Conway Twitty rock this song.I love his version.
this is such a beautiful song. Taj Mahal did a great job on a remake of this song.
So good
can anyone name me an artist who comes close to Ray's genius,,,,,, no thought not.
So good!

We need more Sam Cooke and ray charles
Rita Malik Leon bridges

Ray rocks it. Chuck Willis owns it.

Lovely song. Chuck Willis wrote and did it first, and Ray along with Jerry Lee Lewis, Clarence Brown and others did great versions.
We all have different taste in music and there are many versions out there to this song . The two I prefer is Millie Small's and Percy Sledge
I first heard the Millie Small cover back in 1960.
awesome Ray , but painful to.
@fayeroe1009 It's Chuck Willis and I'm sure glad there are others that remember Chuck Willis. He wrote many other songs before his un-timely death. "CLOSE YOUR EYES" by the Five Keys ESPECIALLY

As long as different versions are being proffered, might I mention the Eric Burdon and The Animals' rendition? No? Okay.

Just The Animals, 1966: "Animalism".

y guess at this point is that TH-cam doesn't always allow the posting of some original releases!
Eric Burdon of the Animals did a great version of this song:)
Nobody else will do
Percy Sledge.
Good Night 💤🌙
😊 Sweet Dream
🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠
I have no idea
Where is Chuck Willis!!
I have posted about him sweetie
🤗😘🤶
Ray had a different original version with more prominent background music
Sometimes they just don’t get it
I wonder who was playing guitar on this..?
Me too. It kind of sounds like Johnny Guitar Watson.
What am I living for? I really wonder.
Don't give up buddy.
Sad he cheated so many times, there is a whole school of ray Charles jr s snd same with Sam Cooke, couldn’t keep his pants up , they both broke their wife’s heart , Sam wax killed, ray died of old age , sadly missed, I love them both but Sam was so sexy
