Ray Charles what a great human being. He was born dirt poor, went blind at 8 years old. His mother, not able to support him with no money, sent him away. He learned to play the piano and performed in clubs. He was booked at a club in Georgia, but refused to go on because it was segregated. He was a drug addict and kicked the habit cold turkey. After he cleaned himself up, he was welcomed to Georgia as their fellow Georgian. He went ont to become a philanthropist donating his money to poor countries. God rest his soul.
I am white,British from Liverpool,UK ,and in the 1960's my late father who was a merchant seafarer brought back a stack of Ray Charles and Sam Cooke records from a voyage he made from Liverpool to Jacksonville,Florida. I was seven years old at the time, but these two wonderful singers and their beautiful music have stayed in my heart and mind ever since. Thanks Dad,you had great taste.
I saw an interview with Billy Joel on tube. He said he (and many artists) feel/felt like Ray had the best voice and many singers wanted to sound like him. He said of all the people that tried, Joe Cocker pulled it off, more than anyone else. And that's interesting, because the two performed together and Joe even said himself that his body language is such that he tried to be like Ray... and it took on a life of its own. Anyway, I love this tune. I think it might be one of the best written (and sung) songs ever. Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderful World's got to be up there.

OMG listening to this and I’m in high school again….the best! I saw Ray Charles live at the Greek Theater in 1961 and it was magic. RIP sir and thank you for enriching my life ❤️❤️❤️
Not many people know Hoagy Carmichael wrote this song for his sister Georgia. So many think of the state, but I suppose that’s what made the song popular. Ray sings it very well, but I still prefer to hear Hoagy sing it.
It's all about what the PUBLIC likes. Ray is known worldwide. I just learned about him today. He wrote this song because he missed his sister whose name was Georgia. Soooo it's all good.
@Georgia. I'm so glad for you! I also was fortunate enough to see the incomparable Ray Charles live in SF in the 70s with the Raylettes and Merry Clayton who later sang Give me Shelter with the Stones. My granny from Georgia helped raise me when my father left when I was 3. Her favorite song was Georgia on my mind! RIP granny and Ray! GBY always. Jim
This song sends chills down my spine everytime. Makes me want to move to Georgia, name my first daughter Georgia and be as passionate about and love something as much as Ray loved Georgia. I feel like I don’t even deserve to listen to this song it’s so perfect.
Hi from the U.K. Loved this song since I first heard it as a child. Ray was one of America's finest. Thanks to my dad for listening & passing on his love of great Music. R.I.P dad & missing you. 💝
Something so moving about a black man singing a love song to a red state, particularly a blind man. I think this song touches our highest aspirations as Americans: united, grateful, but still this longing for something or somewhere. It should probably be our national anthem (if only we could all sing it like this)

You have great taste in music, your and old soul in a young body, and believe me ,that is a very good thing. Take care and God bless !!
Long before Georgia graced the state with this classic Ray Charles song, it topped the Billboard top 100 on my birthday in 1960. I love it as much now, as then. 🎹🎙🎶
Had to listen as I keep singing it in my head. Ray Charles is touching my soul with this one. The back up singers bring life as well. Love it!
My mother used to play this record when i was a child; so it engrained in my memory; unlike rest of my generation, i was lucky to have been exposed to Ray Charles, his beautiful music and violins. Loved and miss him.
I am from Georgia, a little country in Europe near the Black sea (invaded by Russia many times, last in 2008). I often listen to this song. It is great!
The fact that this makes you think about your homeland as well is what makes music so special….Love to you Nana. Be Safe 💯❤️
abkhazia 4 life!!
When a Song that Appreciates a Hometown is THIS POPULAR , its IMMORTAL
What a voice, what a live, what a career, what a achievement... what a man. I love you, Ray.
Smiles, hi Leonore 👋

Georgia What A BEAUTIFUL STATE 🙂
This song works 3 ways:
For a Girl named Georgia, for the state of Georgia and the country of Georgia
ნახსენები საქართველო!!!
The Ukraine girls really knock me out.
This is like the most beautiful I’ve ever heard in my life
My Mom turned me on to Ray Charles as a kid in the 60's. When we were adults, I won tickets to see him and took her! We were far from disappointed!
OMG listening to this and I’m in high school again….the best! I saw Ray Charles live at the Greek Theater in 1961 and it was magic. RIP sir and thank you for enriching my life ❤️❤️❤️
Hello how are you doing
@@LukeXuanNguyen Fine thanks
@@dianalee3059 you’re welcome…where are you from?
Extraordinario.
Hoagy Carmichael is one of the most under-appreciated composers and songwriters of all time.
Not many people know Hoagy Carmichael wrote this song for his sister Georgia. So many think of the state, but I suppose that’s what made the song popular. Ray sings it very well, but I still prefer to hear Hoagy sing it.
I agree
It's all about what the PUBLIC likes. Ray is known worldwide. I just learned about him today. He wrote this song because he missed his sister whose name was Georgia. Soooo it's all good.
By the way, Willie Nelson recorded it too!! Amazing really!!
SO TURE!!!
GBY always. Jim
i love how these people turn the commnt section if these songs into a place to share stories, troubles, and commemorations. its so heart-warming.
The GOAT of Blues : Ray Charles !
The talent of today is nothing compared to this music...the music of MY generation. Ray Charles; no one quite as soulful.
I am s Welsh man and very old I only visited Georgia once but it stays in my mind a beutiful.facinating state
Nieustannie unosisz moja wrażliwość w prosty do gwiazd - nieba, w którym jesteś nadwornym muzykiem aniołów.
Classy, smooth,
elegant and beautiful….brought tears to my eyes. Classic..
Thank you, Georgia!!🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉
Meravigliosa, solo Ray la poteva interpretare nel modo che ascoltiamo!
Thank you Ray!!!!!❤❤❤❤ Georgia is on my mind today as well… 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
This song sends chills down my spine everytime. Makes me want to move to Georgia, name my first daughter Georgia and be as passionate about and love something as much as Ray loved Georgia. I feel like I don’t even deserve to listen to this song it’s so perfect.
Smiles, hi Shane 👋
This changed popular music forever
all love
Hi from the U.K. Loved this song since I first heard it as a child. Ray was one of America's finest. Thanks to my dad for listening & passing on his love of great Music. R.I.P dad & missing you. 💝
Música ouvida por vários Presidentes Americanos
Obra prima de Ray Charles😂❤
MIraculous...Mellifluous...and most of all....lyrically and melodically perfect! Ray Charles is just incomparable in every way:)
Something so moving about a black man singing a love song to a red state, particularly a blind man. I think this song touches our highest aspirations as Americans: united, grateful, but still this longing for something or somewhere. It should probably be our national anthem (if only we could all sing it like this)
Classical legendary ICON Ray Charles!!! 🙏♥️🌹
