My method has been to “Ship of Theseus” the Mantis ship. I’ve managed to rearrange the engines and landing gear to allow me to have a ship that is three bays wide and two 2x1 bays long with the cockpit in the front On the back left I have living quarters, with the all in one on the bottom, crew quarters in the middle and captain’s quarters on top. In the back right I have an armory, the workshop and a science lab. The middle section is a single level with engineering and then in front you have the control deck and then the cockpit. Add in some cosmetics to make everything less boxy and you get what I think looks like a pretty badass ship. Perfect for my space pirate/smuggler. (Example: on the front of the top hab spaces on the left and right, I added one of the “awning” type of module that hangs over the empty space and under those I have two cargo bins. Between those and the way I have the engines splayed out, it keeps the cargo from looking just tacked onto the side of the ship) I tried no ladders and I was able to do it and my ship looked cool enough, but I found it limiting for having all the crafting stations and living space I wanted for my crew. The didn’t want people sleeping in my bed I’m over 70 hours in and haven’t really touched the main quest. This is a truly great game.
Hey Fudgemuppet! Thank you so much for this guide! Can't wait for the ship sections of each build!! I'm planning to make an "Optimus Prime" inspired character, so I'm looking for ideas on what his ship would be like. I'm thinking a battleship type where he can have a crew of "Autobots"

I already have a day in this game and ended up making…damn, you know that “shieldbreaker” ship that the technician sells in atlantis? I made that but upgraded with the ship you get from the ranger questline. It has an A class core, decent shields, but its firepower is where it stands out. It flies, and has maxed cannons, lasers, and missiles. It’s basically a flying battleship with the mobility of a destroyer.
Remember people, Turrets are your rear engines best friend. One on each side and one on the rear will keep enemies in pursuit occupied while you focus your main guns on your forward targets.
Random thing: Sarah Morgan's Leadership skill means she doesn't count against Crew count, as long as you have a station for her. For Example: I need Sam, Barrett and Vasco for combat on my vessel. But Sarah provides a nice benefit of extra jump distance. Normally to have a 4th crew member you would have to have the Social Skill, Ship Command. But so long as you have 4 crew stations, you can assign Sarah, whether you have Ship Command or not.
I just wish you could determine where the ladders would be when stacking habs onto each other you can only determone where the docking and landing ladders are
Hi @FudgeMuppet. Thank you for this video. Can you make a video for the ship at 12:48 please? I'd love a step-by-step video of the construction of this beauty.

It’s amazing how many hours I have in this, and only completed a handful of missions! There’s so much more to do

2 days in game and I'm hooked
It's morbin time
Crossing my fingers for a Guardians of the Galaxy Milano ship build guide
Should note when you switch between ships all of the cargo including the misc items come with you. So if you using a lot of ships your hold starts filling up with misc items quickly.

Anyone remember the helghast cruisers from killzone? They had a badass design. That’s what I’ll be going for when I build my first character who’ll be a pirate warlord.
Wow I haven’t watched a fudgemuppet video since the Skyrim days
Do you think you could make a video showing all possible hab interiors and also cockpits if they look different? Ik its hundreds of possibilities but I want to see all different Captians quarters. 😭
There isn't that many possibilities actually...
@@Jhovix i dont care about videos, im playing the game currently. There isnt that much variety.
