1960 Dodge Dart Donor Found!

  • Hi! I bought this 1960 Dodge Dart at a classic car auction last week. I am going to use it as the donor chassis to make the 1960 Plymouth Fury project solid again!
    I thought we could have a look at the Dodge before we take it apart and show why and how we can use this very similar but not identical car as a big piece of the puzzle when we rebuild the Fury. The splice job will be very similar to the job I did on the 1969 Fairlane a few years ago.
    A splice like this is not super easy, but can be done to make otherwise unrestorable cars whole again. The Dodge Dart is not a particularly rare or valuable car in 4-door sedan guise, so I have no problem with taking it apart to save the Fury hardtop, which is to me at least, a way cooler and more interesting car.
    Thanks again for watching this stuff! Please subscribe if you haven't already; I'd like to have enough subs to do YT full time and show more detail in the videos about how to do this stuff.
    All the best from us here; more very soon!
    Thanks also to everyone who helped support our channel by ordering a shirt and some stickers! I am 2/3 finished shipping the first run of shirts, and then I will be invoicing anyone who wrote me about getting in on the shirts after my initial deadline. I learned a lot about how to do this stuff, and I think we will continue to offer different shirts and whatnot in the future!
    All the very best from me and Miss Frankers and the rest of the Agents who help out on these cars just for a laugh! Cheers...

    It sure has come a long way. Few things. I would love to see a compilation video once the 60s all done. And it would be great to get a video of you going out to the original family and taking people for rides. 👍🏻😊👍🏻

    My first car was a 60 Dodge Dart. My dad bought it new at Jacobson Young Dodge City in New Orleans for my big sis to go to school. Sis gave it to me in the late 60s.

    '60 Dodge Pioneer 4 door! EXACTLY the same as my dad bought new...his was brown with a 318 automatic, I hated the color, but that's what mom picked. ✌😁

    Very solid Dart Pioneer. It brings back memories. Neighbor traded in his 52 Plymouth Cranbrook 4 door for a new yellow with white top 60 Dart Pioneer 2 door sedan , slant six, pushbutton Powerflite, heater, white walls, full wheel covers. Pioneer was middle trim level. Seneca was the stripped version. Phoenix was the fancy one.

    Oh Lordy, that LTD takes me back, lol. We had one just like it bought new in '77. Gold color, same interior. I believe it had a 351 Windsor, but I could be mistaken on that and it might have been a Cleveland. Nice score on the Dodge.

    The engine in that Dodge is a Canadian 313 cubic inch, not a 314 as written on it. I learned to drive in the exact same model in Ontario, my father's 1960 Dodge Pioneer 4 door sedan. Those engines were actually significantly more potent than the later 318's, an physically they really filled out the engine bay; not quite as wide as a hemi but still way larger than the later 318's. I was with my brother one time with 7 people in that 1960 car and he laid rubber all the way through an intersection from a dead stop. I was only 13 at the time but was never-the-less impressed. My dad had the 1960 and a 1964, both with the 313's followed by a 1967 with a 318. The first two were really pretty quick while the latter was an absolute slug.

    Yet another car from my youth, my father drove a 60 Dodge Dart Seneca 4 door until the spring came through the floor of the trunk. I admit I hate to see any vintage vehicle in that shape cut up, but watching you turn it into a 2 door Fury will be sufficient consolation.....even though the Cuban Taxi idea was interesting.

    What?? An old car thats runs immediately after turning the key? Never seen this on CWM before! So actually this time: NOT the same old shit! ;-)
    Can't wait to watch Fury restoration, I just love the style of those cars. In my opinion one of the best looking automobiles ever.
    Frankers is so full of joy, bouncing while running with the leach like a giant black bunny with permed hair. ;-) I just love to watch this.
    It's a pity that you didn't get the second car but this one was a very good deal. Congrats. It's solid and a very good base. Best regards.

      William Schleicher -and not even necessarily an OE cruise control. Back in the 80's when cruise was still kinda rare, one could buy an add-on kit from JC Whitney, complete with vacuum diaphragm, brainbox, wires and turn signal stalk contraption that would fit over the stalk. The stalk on this car looks like the one from jc whitney

    I have a 61 Phoenix 4 door hard top and the sheet metal change between those two years was HUGE! Funny how the Dart was Dodge's way to get into the 'compact' market with a 118" wheelbase 😄

    • @01trsmar
      @01trsmar 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      J O ....Nope,the 1960-1962 Dodge Dart was a fullsize car !
      1963 The totally different 1963 - on Dart was a compact car...Confusing to many people not just you...
      1962 Dart was a smaller than the 60-61 but still a fullsize..

    • @__J_O__
      @__J_O__ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Beg to differ. 60 & 61 were the same size 118" wheel base. Polara the FULL size car had a 122" wheel base. 62 was a one year only size Dart, some people call it the 'intermediate size' Dart. And yes the 63 is what what people think of the Dart today. So hence the first two year Darts were a quasi compact version of the FULL SIZE Polara.
      I read an interesting article about how Chrysler came to the realization that they had to start getting into smaller cars in the late 50's and the first Darts were the beginning.

    • @1575murray
      @1575murray 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The early Darts were introduced as a less expensive and slightly smaller version of the full size Polara mainly to try to compete with Plymouth and other similar sized GM and Ford models which were selling very well at the time. In the years 1961-1962 Dodge had the Lancer as a true compact car which was similar to the Plymouth Valiant. In 1963 the Valiant was completely restyled and its badge engineered Dodge equivalent was renamed the Dart.

      @__J_O__ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      murray1575
      Can't deny that logical statment. I guess should of said 'smaller car market' to avoid all this confusion. That article did state the fact that it was the smaller domestics that they wanted a piece of that market. Yes the Lancer was a smaller rig during that time.

If your Dodge came from there, it must have spent it's winters in the garage. It would not be that rust free if it were driven around that area in the winters. hey Scott,
    Love everything you do, I have been a mopar fan since the first time i remember stumbling into my grandmothers garage and seeing the '59 Dodge coronet. It was two tone blue, four door, 2 speed push-button. BASE BASE BASE.
    I remember sitting in the passenger seat as my father fueled it at the gas station one saturday. It was idling so low I had to get out and put my ear to the hood to see if it was running. We would occasionally swap rims and tires around with our 70 challenger or our dodge van, wearing every tire down to the belts, including the snows. "good" times the energy crisis...
    Sadly, it was already rusting by the 70's when i was born, and then moving it out of the garage, and into our driveway in the 80's didn't help the tin worm problem. It was uncerimoniously scrapped sometime in the 2000's.
    Cut that dart to pieces my friend. After watching the video of what you did to Agent 8771's Fairlane, I have no doubt the final result will be sculpture.
    Are you trying to collect a fury coupe from every model year? cause if you are I see your game...
    BTW... did Dean say he picked up a 72 mercury with a big block-c6 for free? 'cause it might look press sweet in that Fairlane, just saying....

    Great find! Above the standards of some of the rusty relics you have hauled home. Its a pity such a solid survivor has to become a donor but that Fury needs to get finished.

    It looked like Francine was pulling up the car on the trailer right hand drive style! Love that steering wheel.

    I used to own a Canadian 2 door 3 on the tree 53 Chevrolet. Mustie1 does things on the cheap, he's a retired mechanic and is in New Hampshire.

    The water damage "side boob" on the front drivers side door at 10:27 is a Canadian Dodge only feature.

    Frankers is still 100% puppy. Love watching her run and jump like that! So cute!
    Really looking forward to seeing the Fury project -- love me some old Plymouth Fury!! Back in the golden era of Plymouth, no doubt!
