  • HI! We're back with Part 17 of the Fury rebuild! This time I'll get the left 1/4 panel dialed in and we'll have a look at tidying up the engine bay and swapping in the correct wheel wells ahead of the firewall. The engine colour has always bothered me, so what better than a Poly Dust-in to sort it out? Also, Agent 223 dropped in to show me his "new" camera and I figured we should have a look at his sweet 1951 Mercury pickup which has been put together just the way I like to see them!

Hey! Thanks for checking out the latest installment on our Fury project! This week we'll finish fabbing the left 1/4 panel sheet metal, and start swapping and painting the wheel tubs so we can swap out the ones from the Dodge donor car. Also: Time for a quick engine dust-in this week on "Poly Talk"! Then, Agent 223 stops in again; this time to show off his sweet old camera and take us for a spin in his lovely 1951 Mercury M1 farm truck, and Frankers is getting quite muddy...
****Please hit the ol' "like" button if you want more Fury vids, ( It really helps the vids get seen) cheers!******

      You know Scott,
As long as you were there, with such great access, you could have rebuilt the engine. And as long as you're doing that, the trans coulda got a freshening. And, as long as
................. lol It'll only take a few minutes. (Air time) lol
Glad you're still producing. Looks like you've got yourself a regular job.

Scott, thanks for posting this. The Merc pu was a gem. Flatheads are IMO highly underrated and tough as nails. Might we get a revisit from that bitchin 383ci HiPo Newport 4dr with the black cop wheels and true Flowmaster duels? Until I saw 1 of your much earlier vids... I hadn’t even heard of a Mercury pickup until the cold start compilation with the blue Merc pu. And the Cooper Mini... always wondered what happened to the blue Mercury pu. I’m bias and prefer a physical picture via: 35mm Japanese SLR camera’s as well as tube powered amps Hiwatt, Vox, Fender, Marshall, Orange. Same with vinyl and home audio. If can’t get good sound out of a 2 channel amp theirs something wrong. McIntosh tube power amps and component pieces are the best investment for listening pleasure and value. Paired with vintage reference monitors

This reminds me of the good times I had as a child. Every day at 5:00 just before supper brothers and sis would sit down and watch reruns of the Partridge family while mom was making supper. We all knew all the jokes by heart and how the story ended but enjoyed it all same as the first time we saw it. This car is an amazing story. Very inspiring as well.

YOU BASTARDS!! I love ya! First I wasn't going to watch a full 45 minute video tonight but I thought "Hey just take a short look at how the Fury's doing". BUT NOOOO>>> I start to just want to be a part of everything you're doing that next ting I know that I'm having massive emotional flashbacks of my grandfathers old Fargo truck that he took us grand kids to the Taber Dump with in Alberta. Mind you he had one of the steering balls on his wheel. Suddenly, There I am. I am. Sitting in the truck with you guys just loving the ride and the experience!! Hearing that Flathead sounding almost like a train engine and a dog whine while going through the long straight cut gears. Wow. YOU BASTARDS! Now it's almost Midnight and I gotta get up for church in the morning. But seriously Thank you for this great trip down memory lane. I just feel grateful for the life I've lived and those that I grew up knowing and now missing. That was a time and those WERE the days!

The fury is coming along nicely. You are good at making those lower panels and wheel arches. I made the top of the B pillars on my 1990 Toyota pick up (extra cab) with the recesses for the door and side window all in one piece so I can appreciate what you are doing with the fury. The ford pick up is tidy and has that used and worn but not wrecked look No one at ford ever thought they would last for 50 + years and still be on the road.

Agent 223(talking about the truck): "239 Flathead."

Great seeing how much progress you have made on the Fury. The old Mercury truck brings back some fond memories of a 1950 Ford F1 that my buddy's Dad had, back in the late 60s. They owned a body shop so it was restored like new. The Flathead ran so smooth and quiet that only way you could tell it was running from under the hood was the fan was going around. You could sit a glass of water on the hood and there weren't even any ripples in it. I got to drive it from their house to the body shop and back several times, with the owner of course, when I just had my learners permit. I was a farm kid so I had been driving tractors and trucks from the time I could reach the pedals. So he wasn't worried to let me drive it. In the early 70s they decided to turn it into a drag racer and put a modified Mustang drive line in it. The last time I saw it was in the mid 70s sitting outside the body shop with a blown engine.

In New Zealand that model were always popular and for some reason were known as a 'Bonus built' .Even into the 70's they held their value because folks realised they were a quality truck and easy to live with.

Mercury truck Canada only so Mercury dealers would have a truck to sell, if there was no Ford dealer in town. They were made from 1947 to 1972.

I would make that truck into a replica of the Sanford & Son truck! Watching that show when I was a kid made me want to have a yard filled with old "junk" to play with and if that dream came through for me, I wouldn't have become a hermit that fixes up small things that clutter up my apartment. I'm suffering from depression from the sheer lack of human contact and no big projects to work on while having a few beers and a few joints with friends. If I lived in Canada I would love to hang out with you guys, but I'm stuck in the USA.

That hit the spot...great episode! Jim scored a very nice camera. The OM series is a pro level camera, I have a bunch that I've gotten for 20-30 bucks a pop. Marvels of engineering in their time...light, compact, dependable. The lenses are awesome, you can get those pretty cheap, too. When I finally got around to building a shutter speed tester, I discovered why I couldn't seem to control my exposures, which was because every damn OM I owned, the higher speeds were all hovering around 125 or so. They're very much worth getting overhauled, and it's not too pricey. I recommend mailing it off to John Hermanson in NY, though I'm sure there's someone up in your neck of the woods.

The fury is looking great guys!! Looks to be nearing the home stretch. Wow what a lot of great work done on that car. A true rescue of a beloved automobile.
That truck tho!! A celebration of Canadian manufacturing. So good to see. I envy to no end the fellowship and comradery of some good car guys having some beers and picking away on an old car slowly bringing it back to life again. No Dean or Stella this time around. We'll see them next time im sure. I'll be watching for sure. Take care fellas!!

Olympus OM-1. Sweet. Oly made relatively compact & lightweight gear, very nice handling. The 50 mm f/1.8 lenses, while being more compact, are often even better than the f/1.4 lenses, at all apertures except of course f/1.4.
