I will never ever regret quitting drinking alcohol back in December 2018. The bars and club scene used to be a major part of my personality, after I quit drinking I realized how meaningless it all is. The benefits absolutely outshine any negative consequences. I see how heavy and bloated I was and surprise I made it out alive. Send lots of love and encouragement to anyone that wants to quit drinking for good
Very cool. I stopped drinking 7 and a half years ago after 15 years of drinking... it was crazy how much better my life got. There is a quote that always stuck with me. "I quit drinking because I wanted a better life and now I don't drink because I have a better life".
I decided to quit just 2 weeks ago. I hate the way alcohol makes me feel physically and mentally. This is a helpful motivator for me. Thanks for sharing.
Props to you brother, keep it up! When your boys come with the temptation, use the most powerful word in human vocabulary "no" (advice from a guy who been there)
100% correct. I have been sober for almost 6 years. I'm a different person. Look different, act different, feel different, everything. I was worried i couldn't have fun without it but i have more fun now and i am around a better crowd of people. It's better in every shape and form.
As a former binge drinker who hasn't touched the stuff in over 4 years, I have a lot of respect for anyone who takes the step to overcome, especially with the social stigma. My drinking years took such a toll on my body, and although I've taken back my health, it took years to recover from the damage I did. Good luck on your journey! ✌️
Good on you for posting this and having the courage to do it. I quit myself almost a year ago. The changes weren't as profound, but I feel better and I know it is helping my longevity.
This video popped up on my suggested videos and I'm glad it did, thank you for sharing this. Congrats on the lifestyle changes you made. It takes a lot of strength and determination to do so, much respect
I had this problem for a long time. I used to binge drink on the weekends. Got bloated af and felt like crap. I drink way less now and lost 10 lbs + feeling much better
Congrats! That back drop could be a place to show off more comic books and other books.
Kudos for making this, takes guts, i stopped just over 2 year's ago and oddly enough it bought me too comic collecting, that time i use to spend drunk needed filling so i returned too my boy hood passion of comic's, I'm 62 and still had all my old books so decided to build from there .
Congratulations on over a year of sobriety. You touched a lot of important and uncomfortable points here that we should all consider.
Really appreciate you sharing this. You keep it incredibly real and honest and these words can be very helpful. Once you have a child it can really change your priorities in a good way. Awesome job staying sober that long.
Thank you for making this video. I quit drinking 15 years ago or so. Best 15 years of my life and it keeps getting better. Thanks dude!
Great job Daniel and kudos too for having an open approach to this. Having lost a couple of very close friends to substance abuse related causes, it’s a topic that doesn’t get discussed enough.
I used to just drink on the weekends and maybe have a beer or two after work, but during covid it became a problem, like a 6 pack of strong IPA a day problem. I've cut way back, but I know ultimately I need to write off alcohol for good too. It has way too many bad side effects. Thanks for sharing man and keep up the great work!
You are absolutely right. It is a crutch. Awesome job on stopping.
I was a third generation alcoholic and finally stopped drinking at age 34 in 2004..I had to change many things in my life to even get to that place where I knew I had a chance to truly quit. My friends and my job were the first to go..My wife has been with me threw it all and without her I never would have been able to quit.. I owe her my life literally. She is my eskimo..some will get the reference and it is a positive one for those that don't.. My son and two daughters have never been interested in drinking and that makes it worth it. I also started collecting comics again when I quit drinking..Good luck to all.Thank you.
Congratulations! I'm happy that you made the decision early in life. It took a near-death experience (from alcohol-related illness) to make me finally admit that I needed a change. Everything in my life is better now. Great message.
Sticky don’t need Goosey to get Loosey no more! I remember you telling me this before we did the live show. Super proud of you buddy. I drink to de-stress or for courage. I’m gonna make you a promise, I’m gonna quit now for the next 3 months and see how it makes me feel. Hoping I have the same results as you. A bit of a different video today, replace those bottles on that backdrop with comics!
Awesome video. I recently stopped drinking, too. It was due lack of sleep and then drinking late Friday. It would take me 2-3 days to recover from the hang over. After 40 age everything starts slowing down. Plus I see of the drinks like jose Guevero is bad tequila😂. Good luck in your journey. 😊
Now, I need to stop next addiction buying too many comics.
I quite drinking 5 years ago. I was a daily heavy drinker for 2 decades. I’m now 70lbs lighter and in better shape than I was in my 30’s. I wouldn’t go back. I can’t go back. I want to live.
Quit drinking 7 years ago and haven’t had a drink since 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks Sticky for the video. It's something I needed to hear today. Love your Videos. 😊
Hey, I've never been a drinker, although I've had my own faults like we all do. But I will tell you this, if you are really serious about not drinking then you've got to toss out ALL your bar stuff (you can use the shelves for storing or displaying things). Because sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, you are going to fall and suffer a relapse if you don't. It doesn't matter if the bottles are empty, it's just the fact they are there before your eyes. God bless you and keep you; make his face to shine upon you, and give you peace.
I understand your point about tossing out all of the bar stuff. When I quit smoking pot, I needed to put my few pipes and other miscellaneous paraphernalia in a small box and gave to my friend for safe-keeping. This helped me a lot because I have that type of personality that you described - out of sight, out of mind. But, not all people are like this.
I was in a band with a guy who was a recovering alcoholic (five years sober) who almost lost his marriage because of his drinking. Now, when you’re in a band, 98% of the venues where you perform are clubs, bars, pavilions, amphitheaters, etc…. Basically, they all serve alcohol - and if you’re in a band, you usually get to drink for free. Another thing about being in a band is that you need to arrive at the venue early to get all the last minute business straightened out, get all of your equipment set up, set up your merch table, sound check, etc…. After that, you have hours and hours of boring down time before the show and you’re at a place with a bar.
At first, we told him that he could arrive at the venue later or leave after the sound check and come back later so that he wasn’t tempted to drink during all of that down time. He did that for a little bit, but then he realized that he could be around all of that alcohol during that down time and not be tempted. He always had a Starbucks or some other coffee with him that he would hold and drink slowly throughout the night. While the band dissolved after five years, he still plays in other bands and has not had a drink in about 15 years.
Long story short (too late), different people have different ways that they handle things. I needed to get rid of all of my pot stuff because that is what worked best for me. Other people might not need to be that extreme. I’m sure that if StickyGoose needed to toss out all of the bar stuff to get sober, he would have done just that. But, he was even able to hold a glass of beer and smell it and not give in to temptation. There’s more than one way to skin a cat. 🙂
P.S. “Four. There are four ways to skin a cat.”
(If you get that reference you get a gold star) ⭐️
Thanks so much for sharing. That was really brave of you to open up about this. I'm sure that it will help more than a few people.
Quit 2 years ago, best thing I ever did for myself
Much respect for putting this out there. It's very hard to admit something was becoming a problem and do something about it.
This was a great video. Thanks for sharing. I quit drinking over 8 years ago and would never go back. I do recommend removing the bar or find a way to repurpose the space to remove the temptation to drink. You are in the 'pink cloud' stage of quitting a habit. This is when its easiest to resist because you feel good physically and empowered by your willpower. You may soon start playing mind games to justify drinking again and staring at it daily won't help. As far as 'drinking class' its actually almost every adult in all walks of life, but like you said its a spectrum on how much it takes to get them there.
Congratulations! I (Brad) was a massive alcoholic for many years. I got sober 3 years ago and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Thank you for being so brave to share your story. Maybe I’ll do the same soon. You’ll be surprised by all the positive feedback you’ll get from opening yourself up. Keep it up bud!
Not quite the video I was expecting from you Goose, but I really applaud your message here. It's a difficult journey for a lot of people and I hope the message gets taken to heart.
That's how I am about Mary Jane. I quit it over a decade ago and would never touch it again regardless of the push for legalization. I drink a few beers during weekends and football season, but I don't drink anything like hard liquor.
Nice I've been clean for 11 years I got tired of detox and rehabs. It's a vicious cycle. This is great hear stay strong.
Thank you for sharing. This video will help a lot of people.
Haven’t stopped drinking on occasion. But I’ve dialed it wayyyyyy down from my early 20’s.
Good video Sticky Goose. I have always appreciated honesty and introspection. I also enjoy comic creator content that isn’t about comics - gives us a better look at the person creating content as a whole. A++ video!
I’m still drinking for now (maybe once every week or two on a Friday or a Saturday), but I might completely stop after I move. Like you mention, in certain high-stress careers, drinking tends to be married to the profession itself. I feel like there’s also an aspect of regionality and sociological factors as well… for instance, I don’t know a single person within driving distance from myself that isn’t a drinker. I really have no idea what people do to socialize outside of their home that doesn’t at least have some minor aspect tied to drinking. It’s probably why I find myself on TH-cam or IG looking at comic content so often.
Anyway, just wanted to reiterate that I am absolutely a big fan of your candor and the content provided in this video. 🤘
Atta boy Daniel. I cut back on my drinking 2 years ago. Lost ten pounds and am feeling a lot better.
This is awesome Stick. I need to get back to exercising as well.
Respect.
Good for you dude. I still drink on the weekends but temperately. I’m into fitness and it doesn’t effect me really. I’m still able to work out 4-5 days a week. Really happy for you though and the more sober people we have the better. Hope you have a strong relationship with God too and prioritize Him. Being spiritually healthy is the chief ingredient to overall well being.
Congrats to you brother for sharing your experience. I have never been a big drinker but did my share of drinking in my early 20's. Once I became a father it was just something that I didn't really want to do anymore just because I always wanted to set a good example for my son.
Nice from the heart video. Congrats on your sobriety. As an alcoholic I get everything you’re saying. I’ve cut my drinking down significantly, but you gotta crawl before you can run. I enjoy all your vids and you are genuine in your style of collecting. Keep em comin. - Manny
Congratulations brother. Been going back and forth with the idea of quitting as well. I haven’t yet, but I feel like I may eventually make that decision.
Wow that's a great success story Goose! Congratulations!
Thanks for sharing, and congratulations.
Awesome my man !!! Congrats !!!
You look and sound great SG. Good on spreading the message of not drinking being a cool thing to do :)
I was a heavy pot smoker and drinker sr year hs to sophomore year college, had my fill and was the only one in my circle to say to myself, "why am I paying people to slowly kill myself?" Stopped... haven't really picked it back up (2 very small and short "relapses") for about 20 years, good idea to stop brother
Mass respect and great advice!
Good for you! Smart move, you will see how the quality of your life will greatly improve now! 👍
drinking and a women....short list of what consistently ruins good men...
I really expected you to down that pint at the end of the video. 😂
congrats brother. 🎉
I quit Coke and started buying comic books 😂😂😂
23 years ago I quit drinking
Congrats on being sober. I have the same outlook on alcohol as you currently have. I commend you on your growth.
Next logical step is to get rid of the bar 😉
Very thoughtful and poignant video. You showed a different side of yourself, and we’re all the better for it!
i drink once a week, sometimes i skip it. beer is to be enjoyed with a pleasant chug
This video made me love you even more
I’m straight edge and have it tattooed on my face and I love that you were able to overcome addiction
Congratulations and good for you sharing this.
Great video. I have cut my drinking down to a shot of whiskey every one to two months. Now I just need to cut out the salt and sugar in my life…
I’ve only ever had *1* alcoholic beverage in my life. That’s all I wanted, that’s all I needed, that’s all I plan to keep it at. Good on you for giving up that liquid rubbish Mr. Goose, I salute and congratulate you!
I had a routine ortho surgery. I came out of it and it's been a couple months. Something happened to me. I couldn't drink alcohol anymore. I tried and got sick. What happened?
Good work brother! Proud of you 🫡
Social lubricant, that's exactly what it is. I stopped drinking 6 years ago after a life of addiction and I feel so much better now.
Kudos for posting this.
Right on, brother! More people would do well to follow suit
I’m proud of you Goose; and I bet Mother Goose is too. I’m proud because you quit drinking and also for having the guts to talk about it.
Drinking sucks.
I quit 4 yr ago, my life was a disaster! Thank god i still have a house , life is better, did it all on my own thsnks sticky!
Good Video! 👍🏻
The hangovers you fear will become a reality after 40
Daniel you are a good man. Jess
Props dude!!!
Teetotal for 17 years, respect
Gave up drinking at 34, (53 now.). Feel great, much more engaged with life... now just need to kick the cocaine and the crack... those i can live with, it's the comicbooks that will do for me..😊..
Im not sure if @Stickygoose is serious or tongue in cheek! Since his videos run the gambit between the two! Anyways, if true good for you Sticky!❤
Papa goose'es wall is much different to daniels.
It's my time.😢 I hate this shit but I can't stop
respect man…
Congratulations on your sobriety!
So many programs out there that promise you'll quit drinking from one day to the next and feel great for the rest of your life. Listen, Steffon Barkload's Quit Drinking Forever takes a lighter, safer approach which you decide to go with at your own pace. Best shortcut I go’ogled that only took days to rewire my brain to continually experience mental peace.
To get stronger, you need a solid training program and set goals to help motivate you. Dropping the booze helps as well as high fat snacks. I dropped 30 pounds and was faster on the bike than ever.
Quit drinking and started training Muay Thai, best decision ive ever made
No one likes a quitter
I respect your opinion but your views do not apply to everyone I've been drinking since I was 13 retired arborist drank every day after work made it to work the next day very fit person very strong when I was younger I enjoyed the camaraderie at the bar with the Ironworkers plumbers fitters all the union guys. My man life is Short do what you want if you have a problem quit if you don't enjoy yourself I'm happy you're enjoying the new you thanks for the comic knowledge. Sorry that I always get you confused with mint Hunter maybe that's from drinking who knows just kidding don't roast me people.
I have a drinking problem... I can't afford a beer.
Slow day at the office for sticky goose comics topics?
Personally, I think it all depends on what you drink. As a wine drinker, I don’t feel the symptoms a beer drinker will experience. Beer is just bad for us in general. Barley is no good for the gut. Wine on the other hand, a glass a few times a week proves to be healthy.
But not that cheap shit. Good wine is usually $50 and up a bottle. You will feel good the next day. Have a glass, strap-on!
I feel like I'm back in rehab.
Fun Fact I'm still not better. I still have Autism and can't live a normal life.
The girl i saw in rehab that was R is still not better.
The Veteran that tried to K himself 2 times still isn't better.
Just saying. For a Drug and Alcohol abusers there is hope for them to get better but when society only helps those people because they can relate and not others with need that's when those people get left behind and normally things happen. But when it comes to Drugs and Alcohol abusers. There are many steps to contribute to your problem and when I personally saw even myself get left behind just to help those people abusing drugs and alcohol. I do feel a certain way
Damn it, Sticky!! You better get back to talking shit about ComicTom, GemMint and Bry’s Comics or I’m unsubbing!! I signed up for the shit talking, not this wholesome 🗑️
In all seriousness, I drink 4 glasses of wine every Friday or Saturday and the next day I always regret it. But like clockwork each week I hit the store and get my wine. I don’t do anything crazy or get blackout, throw up drunk, but like you described, the next morning I’m sluggish and tired and I don’t like it.
@@AngryStraightWhiteMaleAll in moderation my friend. Drinking 4 in a night won't help spread it out throughout the week or none at all. 😅
From this vid it appears you are free of it. Would have been nice to see you pour that one down the sink.
so your a quiter
not drama, unsubbed, disliked, reported to DHS
Hahahaha
One of life's Losers...
