I'm not for slabbed books. I wanna read my books, flip thru them, smell the old pages. What I find really dumb is sending last week's new releases off to cgc. People are slabbing anything just for a 9.8 and they end up spending 40$ to grade a dollar bin book.

It was the COVID-19 stimulus money that drove up the prices . Now that the money is gone the prices are adjusting back to reality . It's like how a lot of people were stock investors on RoninHood but once the checks stop coming then many sold their stocks ( mainly at a lost ) just to get back some of their money . The hype had a good run , but now it's back to reality for many people concerning their finances 🤷🏾‍♂️ . They should of sold during the inflated prices . Haven't they learned from the 90's how fickle comic book values can be 🤔 .

Here’s the thing. I’ve owned over 200 graded books and never read a single comic book in my life. I have zero desire to as well. While I don’t have any currently, I bought keys for Cover ART. CGC presents the cover art well. Not everyone into comic books reads comic books. Some of us are in it for the artistic style.

Ignore those trolls. Some people take this all too seriously and feel like getting over on people to make a living is what they do best. When that gets exposed they lash out.

I don't collect anymore, but have my whole childhood collection I've been contemplating getting books graded (specifically this one) and this pretty much made up my mind not to do it. Even though I don't collect anymore, I would be physically ill if this happened so I can't imagine how you feel!

Very interesting… oddly I have felt the lack of love to my own slabs and sold pretty much every one of them… I have enjoyed them… but visually raw bagged and boarded is much more appealing to me..

You like the art you like the comic fine you like tidy books fine collect 7+ raw this grading should be for very expensive books to match price only compared to other copies (as a magic the gathering player i would grade nothing under 2k) nm revised duel exception because they are all destroyed like if its 9.4+

Thumbs down bud. Slabbed books are still good for one thing. Is this book legitimate or not? You're finding slabbed books don't sell at auction but opening a slabbed book and auctioning it raw does? That makes no sense whatsoever. Just auction it slabbed. Literally all of the advice and commentary on here is some of the WORST anyone could ever follow. If your purchase decisions were made on financials like you had said then the items remaining slabbed doesn't affect that now. Only your emotional bias has shifted and you've now undermined your previous decisions. Misallocated capital, look it up.

DC and Marvel have reprinted so many things, that grading is irrelevant. Most people just want to read the story. And the fact that something is so old that it has value is just an obstacle. Especially in today's economy. When it gets reprinted, that obstacle has been removed.

Back around 1993, I was selling at a con in Harrisburg, PA, and I gifted a FN/VF copy of ASM #129 to a young kid who kept coming around & around to stare at it. His mother insisted on paying me something, but I politely refused. The joy I received from the kid's reaction was enough for me. I'M OLD SCHOOL, y'all. 😀

I hade a 6th grade teacher who had a friend that worked were comics got returned every month if they din't sell they tore the cover off ,my teacher get a box them for reading exercises...I got hooked then that was the late 70s.. I had a complete run of silver surfer, inhumane, x-men 1thru l Iike 140 with only like missing 4, 6. A ton thor an god a boat liad of iron man issues an a lot legion of super heros Full run new titans an some d teen titans an all frank Miller.dare devils an of them a lot doubles an 5 issues with Electra had hulk that I beleave first appearance of Thanos,,whole bunch Dazzler (mistake) I sent like what I thought would be the hot issues to be graded..there idea of grading is whack had a teen titans issue that got like a 9.2. An the hulk issue when I purchased it was grade like 9.5. AN TO ME I BELEAVE IT WAS BUT THE TEEN TITANS ISSUE MADE NO a sense because they had a graded so high but there was you open it up and I put a thumbnail through it when I was a kid any the the the the the the the evaluator that I sent him off to knew it but he said that didn't matter because it was all about the the cover play nitpick the the s*** out of the Hulk issue because the Staples running super tight and one other blemish. But I noticed anything to do with selling comic books especially as to another shop they all want 50 cents on the dollar and I had one guy try to offer me $2,000 for my whole collection and I walked away laughing

I'll be honest here. Inflation and WOKE culture killed the American comics industry. No matter how rare that comics is no one buying that. Right now Americans are boycotting comics as a whole and are buying Japanese manga instead.

I'm a card collector, but if I see card in slab and raw for same price, I'm buying the raw. Graded stuff is so cringe unless it's some really special piece, something that can be counted in single digits on the entire world, something for a museum. Nowadays everything is graded and it doesn't feel special. It's just nuisance to store and show off. Once you grade something it's locked behind that plastic, you can't do anything with it any more. Even if it's like an item that defined your childhood and holds large amount of personal value and nostalgia, you can still put it in a good protective case without having it be graded and assigned a rudimentary number to something you don't plan on selling anyways. Grading in general is just an exceptionally elaborate scam, a premium tax to fulfill vanity.

Being a collector of comics isn't for the money. As you mentioned/as well as other commenters, it only as good as the next person willing to pay the price of it. It can be collectable cars, stamps, coins, jewelry, art, stocks, property. If no one wants to buy it, it just ages and collects dust. There are lots of good art/stories in the past, now and in the future, that will come out that will be enjoyed but unless people have access to it, people don't see the value of it. The famous paintings of European art masters are valuable to people because for generations, people have seen their art out and appreciated seeing how great it is. Same for the literary giants of writers long gone but still read today. The comics today are longer versions of the comic strips in the newspapers. Some long forgotten and discontinued. How many people remember Prince Valient? Dick Tracy? Blondie? Peanuts? Some have been around for decades, others gone & replaced with newer/younger more current strips. Same for comics. Some have condensed story arcs for graphic novels, which cover the same stories. Now digital, they can be read but not kept. Only the hardcore collectors might seek something that has meaning to them. But a single issue? If one had a signed document by Abe Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, people might clamor to have that signature, a comic book signed by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Neal Adams, Jim Lee, I'm not certain about that.

What I do with comics is I get one that is Grated because I like the Art the story. I get the same one for retail price because I am interested in reading it. My collection isn't about making money it's about a Passion. The 1 thing that does make money for anyone interested in that or seeking something worth it. It's getting a Limited Release. That's where it counts & if a person is willing to go after it how ever they do it. Also if a person wants something that is signed by the artist.
