This is my favorite BeeGees song. They rarely sang it live because of all the recorded layers of their voices was hard to replicate live. Fanny was also their Mom’s favorite song.
I read they had a hard time trying to figure out the name to use and then their maid walked in the room and boom! Her name was Fanny. And it's funny they wouldn't sing it live yet I saw a BeeGees "cover' band this summer and they sang it and did a pretty darn good job.
Actually, this song was never performed live because of all the overdubs and multitracked vocals..I know people point at the 'video' of this song, but it's just them lipsyncing to the actual cut from the Main Course album.Far too many voices for just three men..
They had so many great songs! I love the back & forth between Robin and Barry at the end. And then the blending of all three. Very talented brothers! Their music never gets old💛💛💛
Absolutely, they always talk about BeeGees being disco but, they are so much more. 2 decades of music before SNF.... How Can You Mend a Broken one of my faves. (I know they heard it already, just saying) I think they should watch one of the concerts (I like the one where Andy sings with them)
Barry is the deep voice you’re hearing. The ‘60’s had Robin & Barry singing more lead together. Maurice pronounced Morris hit some killer hit notes in this song 🎶

Y’all need to a reaction to their documentary “The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart”. These guys are just incredible, and it’ll make you appreciate their music even more, IMO.
The deeper voice is Barry, too. One of the reasons why they never did this song live was because all brothers layered their vocals multiple times in this recording, with the record obviously being Barry's voice, both in his lower as his falsetto register. All brothers (including Andy) could sing falsetto, but Barry had the strongest falsetto and took it to a way other level. After several years, Robin stopped using his falsetto, but you can hear the difference between his and Barry's falsetto because Robin's vibrato was much faster than Barry's. Maurice (pronounced Morris) either sang the deepest or the highest harmony parts in songs. His and Barry's voices sounded most alike, with Maurice's being a little softer and deeper overall.
Our favorite Bee Gee’s song. My wife and I would blast this song before we went to the Dance Clubs in NYC! 🎉 Another great pick and fantastic reaction. Thank you❤️
Jay/Amber, you'll love their "To Love Somebody", "I've Gotta Get a Message to You" and "I Started A Joke" !!! More pre-disco Bee Gees!! edit- That's Robin using his falsetto, sharing the lead and backing vocals.
exactly, as little children they wrote, sang and performed their own music- and could play any style, as for their harmonies- heaven on earth...then there is Andy!!!!! RIP Maurice, robin and Andy, Barry we love you..I mean that as gratitude btw, your music is so so special..
Finally! Finally you have come to this point and visit this song. It is THE song. I have loved Bee Gees music from its beginning and four decades thereafter, but this is a highlight. Thanks!

Main Course 1975 Barry first started using the falsetto on this album Big come back And set the tone for the Saturday night fever era Which is great But IMO The early stuff is amazing
I just wanted to tell you guys that I like you. You are all right in my book. As an older fan of the BeeGees I am so happy that the younger generation is now discovering the talent that these gentlemen had together and you are presenting for more to hear. After disco was fading out they had kind of a backlash of listeners and DJs on the radio stopped playing their music for quite a while. It wasn't until later in the 80s that some folks started listening again. (That downfall broke my heart.) I think that now with the internet and younger fans, their talent can be appreciated once more. The song "One" was a song that was brought out in the 80s. Their album "Still Waters" that they did in the 90s is a real treasure. Hope that you can give it a listen sometime. We enjoy the work that your doing. Thank you so much.
All the brothers got to display their beautiful barritones here. Barry and Robin switching back and forth is amazing. Oh and this was their mothers favorite recording of theirs.
Wow I'm surprised you haven't gotten to this one until now. One of their most complex vocal arrangements hands down. And Morris' roaming bass totally drives the song.
This is my favorite Bee Gees song, it's such a lovely one! You should check out the video of this, it shows all 3 of them and their parts and how they all can go up and down! Barry starts out with the high, Maurice is the tenor in the lower and toward the end, it's Robin going high! Check out the video!
Totally in my top 5 of Bee Gees greatest songs!! So glad you’re getting into some a of their lesser known songs! Now you gotta go on and on Into their unknown songs! The wonders never cease!!❤❤❤

And Wedding Day (a pledge to their wives, and with Barry & Linda just celebrating 53rd anniversary on 9/1 Barry’s birthday how fitting). Love your reactions ❤
After many years studying the Bee Gees I have come to the conclusion that the key to their disco era sound was singing harmony in falsetto. All 3 sing harmony in falsetto. Its unusual and brilliant.
Realize when the bee Gees recorded Main Course it was a straight forward R&B album. They didn’t know anything about disco. Now mind you at this point disco was underground in black and gay clubs and influencing R&B artist so it’s natural. They would be influenced. Also maybe not even realizing it it was an R&B album..
I realize it. I was there. My comment was about their singing style not disco. I only use the term because most identify them as that. I really dont. They are just The Bee Gees to me. I'm a singer not a dancer. LOL@@jgg59

That deep voice IS Barry! His falsetto is not his normal voice. That really high voice is Maurice's falsetto (pronounced Morris) and Robin. There is a version of this on TH-cam that has them doing it live where you can see which brother is singing each line.
I am pretty sure that video that shows them singing this is fairly misleading. They don't really show who singing what part. It's a lip sync version or the studio version played over the live cut. It is my impression that both the high falsetto and the low is Barry.
I feel like Barry discovered his “real” voice when he discovered his falsetto. In live videos for these earlier song he is really working his neck and shoulder muscles. But his falsetto is effortless.
@@heidichristensen7919 No, Barry has a deep chest voice in many of the early songs, Lonely nights, Every minute every second, tomorrow, tomorrow.....long. long ago before he discovered his falsetto voice!!!
No, Barry is singing here lead, the "deep" part is Robin (and Mo), and the highest notes is also Barry, a bit with robin. Robins falsetto sounds very different from Barrys, you can hear it in the song living together, there is also a video from this song with Robins isolated voice (falsetto), where you can here very good the difference to Barrys!
@@nelerhabarber5602 no I know, but again his chest voice does not look comfortable. His falsetto is. I don’t believe he ever went back to his chest voice, except when singing the older songs. That also speaks to him being more comfortable in falsetto
It's amazing how they switch their voices from a regular voice to a baritone and to falsetto in one song and it has many remarkable layers. producer Quincy Jones called "Fanny" one of his favorite R&B songs of all time.
I had the pleasure of attending the Buffalo stop in their Spirits Having Flown tour (Sept 14, 1979). This was one of many great tracks they performed that night. Pure Heaven. They will always be one of my all-time favorite groups.
I love your Bee Gees reactions and have been watching since the initial hearing of "Too Much Heaven" when Jordan first discovered them and started his journey into their catalog. 4 and a half decades of writing and producing great hits is unmatched anywhere. They truly are a once-in-a-lifetime talent. I do want to point out, though, that Barry;s last name is Gibb--not Gibbs. It's the Gibb Brothers, not Gibbs Brothers. Just thought you'd want to know as such a big fan. And Barry lives in Miami on the coast of Biscayne Bay, in case you're ever headed that way. He's been known to come out and meet fans who occasionally gather at the gate of the driveway entrance which is visible from his home, assuming he's there at the time. His home is located at 5820 N Bay Road Miami Beach, FL 33140. If you don't make it down there you might try sending him a card or writing to him. You two have so much more of the Bee Gees yet to hear. Keep going! You've only just scratched the surface. You'll never run out! You should see them perform as kids! So cute, and already that talented. Anyway, thanks for all the great reactions!
This is such a brilliant mix of the most beautiful voices that become one and many. It is the most soulful sound they’ve done. It so indivisibly and inextricably the BeeGees all together, always.
Sublime magnificent stunning simply. The greatest song they have ever produced written and. Sung a total masterpiece so happy you finally got to listen to this as I knew you would love it
I would love to see you react to some 1960s BeeGees. They had many hits then, but some that come to mind are 1) Words, 2) Massachusetts, and 3) I started a Joke. The last one features Robin's lead and is haunting. Barry did Words with Dolly Parton on his recent Greenfields album in which he did early BeeGees songs with country artists.
I remember when this song was regularly played on the radio. Even as a young choirboy and piano student at age 10/11, I became fascinated by all the Bee Gees' signature vocal arrrangements after hearing this song. Jay, I agree with you Barry's voice is captivating! I guess we must say the way the members' voices uniquely blend is the magic of their signature sound.
I’ve been waiting so long for your reaction to this song. One of my favorites! Please please react to a Bee Gees song with Robin on lead vocals. Barry’s voice is undoubtedly great, but so is Robins…there’s a sort of aching to his voice. I also think Amber will really like their earlier stuff “I Started A Joke” and “Massachusetts”.
I had a college room mate who was a major fan of the Bee Gee’s. She had their posters on the wall and would play their CD’s every single night. I never got tired of listening to it!
I started showing my 7 year granddaughter some old songs, I've shown her a few now, but as far as the Bee Gees were concerned, there were three songs that were at the very top of my list, Too Much Heaven, I started a Joke, and Massachusetts. I'm sure you'll get to them in the end, but as somebody who's heard just about every song the Bee Gees ever recorded, I really feel that you guys need to do I started a Joke, and Massachusetts, because without doing those two, where Robin shows of his fantastic talent, your Bee Gees playlist is missing two classics
My favorite BeeGee’s song! Never heard it until 2010. It’s an underrated masterpiece. Love it more than “How Deep is Your Love”. They never performed this song live because Barry said it was impossible for them to recreate live all of the multiple layers of vocal overdubbing they did in the studio version.
I always like their early songs, "Holiday," "I've Gotta Get a Message to You," "Words," "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?," "I Started a Joke," "To Love Somebody" and "Massachusetts."
I'm looking forward to when you guys finally go down the '60's Bee Gees rabbit hole. It will be an eye opening experience! So different, but just as good.

My all time favorite Bee Gees song... Followed by Spirits Having Flown and Alone... 🩷
It's amazing how they switch their voices from a regular voice to a baritone and to falsetto in one song and it has many remarkable layers.
producer Quincy Jones called "Fanny" one of his favorite R&B songs of all time.
Maurice said that they rarely ever did this song live because there are 26 harmony overlays!
I had the pleasure of attending the Buffalo stop in their Spirits Having Flown tour (Sept 14, 1979). This was one of many great tracks they performed that night. Pure Heaven. They will always be one of my all-time favorite groups.
Bee Gees have always been one of my favorite groups
My Favorite ! 🥰
One of the most...if not the most Harmonious groups of ALL TIME ! 👍
Maurice was the secret sauce between leads Barry and Robin.
Robin sings lead on this song.
Sublime magnificent stunning simply. The greatest song they have ever produced written and. Sung a total masterpiece so happy you finally got to listen to this as I knew you would love it
Love this song love Barry love his beautiful voice ❤
I would love to see you react to some 1960s BeeGees. They had many hits then, but some that come to mind are 1) Words, 2) Massachusetts, and 3) I started a Joke. The last one features Robin's lead and is haunting. Barry did Words with Dolly Parton on his recent Greenfields album in which he did early BeeGees songs with country artists.
The Bee Gees take you to another place
I loved this song the first time I heard it back in 1975. It is incredible.
I was in high school in the late 70’s have loved the BeeGee’s forever.
They’re the best
“Cause it’s all that I’ve got and my love won’t desert me..” That is Robin Gibb. He had a fantastic voice.
Robin has that special vibrato
I started a joke and Massachusetts are both so great!
Oh, yes, that is a good song.
@@jambrunelda and Words
All time favorite song by the band. By far
It was actually Barry on lead vocal and him and Robin sharing falsettos in the chorus and backing vocals.
I had a college room mate who was a major fan of the Bee Gee’s. She had their posters on the wall and would play their CD’s every single night. I never got tired of listening to it!
That deep voice is Robin.
❤One and only Bee Gees❤ So good to hear Mo's lower Range. Spelled Maurice, pronounced Morris. Love love live this song
One of the best songs they ever did!
My favorite of all time from these guys. They were never better. Controversial, maybe, butt truly a beautiful piece of music.
Nobody sings like the Bee Gees...Bee Gees forever!!!
