    Sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s singing what unless you can see them. Barry said in an interview that Robin’s falsetto is slightly higher than his. But sometimes Maurice sneaks something in there. You got a Bromance dude. Love it!

      @Erizedd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It isn't Maurice, it's Barry. Maurice harmonizes on this track, but the baritone and falsetto is Barry, with Robin joining him on the chorus. EDIT: Sorry, Robin joining him on the bridge and chorus.

  • @katie-didellis2437

    In an interview Maurice said that they seldom do this live because of its complexity. He went on to say there was 26 layers of Harmony on this particular song. I think the reason it is the favorite of so many is 1 the outstanding Harmony and 2 each of the Gibb Brothers sang the lead/solo on the recording. I haven't seen it mentioned in the other comments so I'll go ahead and mention it now. Fanny was their maid when they had first come to the United States to record. They rented a house and it came with a housekeeper / maid and her name was Fannie. The Story Goes that when she found out that they had this song named after her she actually cried. I think I would have too.

    • @DianaJG8
      @DianaJG8 3 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      The maid/housekeeper/cook was actually the lady that came with the place they rented that Eric Clapton also got when he went to Miami to record at Criterion. When they were rehearsing the song, they weren't using an actual name, and Maurice mentioned that they should pick one and the song would have a better flow. That's when they decided on Fannie as a "Thank you" for such great care and meals, and brought her into the studio, and the tears flowed. ❤😊❤

      I think this is another indication that the brothers were just really nice guys and sensitive to people's feelings. (Well they weren't sensitive to reporters feelings. LOL.) She probably had never had such appreciation bestowed on her before or since. I bet she's a fan. If I'm going to have a hard crush on a group I'm glad it's the brothers because they're just nice people. They don't yell at or cuss out the audience like I've seen rather heard other groups do.

    My dad ran WOW-AM in Omaha during this time which they promoted the Bee Gees concerts there.. But more important to me - this song - I was just a small youth then and it was on the PA speakers anytime you went to any nice restaurant, shop, park (lobby area, etc) so when I hear it it brings back all those memories. The best moments in my life.. My dad said of every band that came through Omaha from Elvis to ABBA, The Bee Gees's were the nicest back stage of them all. Their parents were always there too. My dad said in particular Andy Gibb was the most memorable. He was these three packed in one. Nicest guy of all people he's met since 1967 all the way to today.

    I love watching these reaction videos because I've been listening to this music for over 4 decades and it's so much fun to see people loving it all these years later. Robin and Maurice (Mo) are twins. Barry is the older brother. Their youngest brother Andy died suddenly when he was 30 of heart failure. Watch the documentary just out. "The Bee Gees:How Can You Mend a Broken Heart". It's great and will tell you the story of their lives. This song, Fanny is one of my favorites.

      Robin's voice is actually known as vibrato because of the way it sounds like a vibrator is on his throat making it vibrate. It really comes through when you listen to "I started a joke". I really don't remember it from my youth but it is now one of my favorites! Hold down the fort Barry. We love you

      beesee Will - FYI - Robin could play piano, organ and a bit of guitar. He used them to compose and also on his early solo albums. Of course his amazing vibrato voice was all the instrument he needed. Both of his brothers called him "the voice". Robin's voice suited some songs, Barry's suited other song.

    Every single song in the Main Course album is fun or great! I loved the songs on Night Fever too but stopped following them due to Chicago, Stevie Wonder, Boston, ELO, Tim Weisberg, Chuck Mangione, Ramsey Lewis, George Benson, Seals& Crofts, Crosby Still, Nash, Fleetwood Mac, the Frampton Live album, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, then Bob Marley & Madonna for me in the 80s.. & then there were my friends' albums... Journey et al. So much music , so little time. Only a few months ago did i discover Spirits Have Flown & been hooked again on the BeeGees. Every day I have to hear some or a lot of the BeeGees!😂🥰❤😂😍 Thanks again for reviewing them. Love your reactions!❤

    Robin could play multiple instruments same as his brothers, he preferred not to on stage. Songs in the late 60's early 70's, Robin sang lead in many songs, Maurice usually sang lead on one or two songs on each album. They did break up for a short period of during that time frame caused by teenage egos between Barry and Robin but they said they never felt complete and came back together after about 2 years. They continued working together and also did separate projects on their own through the years. Once Maurice died in 2003 they found it difficult to perform as the Bee Gees

    Maurice, pronounced Morris, also had a beard. Robyn was blond with the beautiful tremor in his voice. Robin and Maurice were twins. They started singing and harmonizing at about 5 and 9 years old and made it to Australian t.v. just a few Years later. Their mother made their little outfits. Their will never be talent like this again. We have witnessed real genius!

    When you thought you heard Robin (the middle) go into another voice, I'm not so sure that was entirely him. Maurice may had joined him for that switch there. I'm not sure I've heard Maurice ever sing solo. You will notice, that Maurice is VERY clearly singing when the camera focuses on him with the words "Because it's all that I've got, and my love won't forsake me". But notice something else too. If you had closed your eyes then, you would think Robin was singing that. A more detailed look, shows, I think, that just before the camera entirely pans to Maurice, you will notice that Robin appears to start singing when Maurice does there. So perhaps Maurice and Robin are singing various non-chorus bits together like that? If this was Maurice really by himself, he sounds exactly like Robin in this clip. Yes, I'm right, Robin bends his head down, and clearly starts singing the part Maurice is getting into. So, to answer your question, Robin probably wasn't switching his voice at all, but what you heard was a Robin solo, then Maurice joined and the sound changed a bit. Assuming I'm right, Robin and Barry both had some solos, while Robin and Maurice joined in to give a duo sound as well, and of course a trio sound at the choruses. Having said all of that, this film may be entirely lip sync, and in lip sync, I'm not sure the guys were all so staunch that the correct singers should be moving their lips at the right times. for this is precisely the studio version sang here, and I doubt they filmed the studio version.
    I am a bit mystified though, because on another Maurice solo clip, Maurice is singing when "with my love, you made a promise to always love me forever" and yet that sound seems entirely Barry on the surface. This may suggest, assuming they're lip synching where they actually sang the studio version, that Maurice was joining both Robin and Barry during the verses for short stints, going back to a duo song again, and, of course, Maurice isn't soloing at all.
    This was the song, BTW, that got me to buy almost all their albums. Their earlier work was harder for me to swallow, for it was more ordinary, but this song showed their potential, and they lived up to that potential on a number of later songs. At 6:35, you may have just caught a brief glimpse of Maurice hitting a small solo, and quickly afterwards, you hear Robin join in. Yes, they were switching singers back and forth even within the same verse. Robin is either dominating when the two sing together, so it sounds much more Robin, or Robin is switching his voice, but I think it's Robin and Maurice switching back and forth. I can only wonder how much the guy that's not on camera is singing at any one time, but at least we saw one Maurice seeming solo for one portion.

    Thank you so much for bringing back my favorite music memories when I was younger. I am so grateful for you and really enjoy seeing your generation appreciate the quality music of my day. I wish you could have been there in the days when this music was originally on pop 40 radio. We were so fortunate and didn’t even know it. This was just everyday normal music to us. I guess you “kids” (no insult intended) now days are not fortunate enough to have music like this. I feel sorry for you all. As far as the group, Barry is the one with the beard, Robin is the one with the rounded face and Maurice is the one with the longer face and no beard. So wish I was alive in the 70s! Honestly I think Harry Styles is turning out strong, his falsetto is a lot like Barry Gibb. I hope you can do a reaction for his song "Sign Of The Times" it's a powerful ballad

      It was a great time to be a music lover. Including the 80’s. It’s all we knew and we didn’t think of it as being special music. It was just great music. Had we known maybe we would of listened with more heart or intent or something. This kind of reaction as well as so many more help me to appreciate it more. Knowing when I tell my kids that we did have the best music it was really true!

    I think that what some people don't pick out is that sometimes Robin and Barry will sing a lead at the same time and it sounds like one voice that is slightly different from what each of theirs is alone but it's them together. I love them and all the ways they chose to make their music different. They will be missed greatly as a group but their music will live on forever. Thanks for your help.

    Thanks for playing one of my favorite songs! Maurice (pronounced Morris) plays bass and Robin's in the middle (they were twins). Isn't this group the very best?! Fanny was a song they almost never played live in concert because of its difficulty (I've read.). They wrote all their own music--incredible writers as well as musicians. I enjoyed your reaction again! Have you seen the Stayin' Alive video yet? Such a great song for these turbulent days. God bless!

      Maurice [pronounced "Morris", nickname: Mo; the youngest BeeGee (born 30 minutes after Robin, his twin)] played many instruments & was the musical genius; he also sang the high harmony, above his brothers; & he was the 'man in the middle' acting as referee between his brothers, both lead singers. Mo was so vital to the group, his tragic & unnecessary death ended the BeeGees. FYI, Mo said this song was 'just a bitch to sing'; it's intricate vocals is why it wasn't performed live.

    This is the quintessential Bee Gees song because it showcases everything that made them great. Great story about this song. Maurice met Quincy Jones and Quincy said that Fanny was one of his favorite R&B songs of all time. He told Maurice that he tried for years to find someone that could cover the song and that the search was futile because he couldn't find anyone to come close to this performance. That says so much.

    I was in 9th grade when this came out. This song is raw. It fills my soul. It brings me back to my old bedroom listening to it and belting out the words with them. If you didn't know better you'd think there were 8 people singing this song. I don't know many artists now that have this talent. They all have been or were married for a long time, had children, and produced music for many many others. Yes, they drank and smoked pot... and sadly Andy did his share of cocaine, but they functioned. You rarely heard them curse, they were alway super polite when being interviewed, smiled to their fans.... These guys were one of a kind and I really think this song is on my top 5 songs. So much range and feeling. Okay, I"m done. Thanks for listening.

      I believe Barry was nine and the twins were six. Barry got a guitar for Christmas. The may have sang together before this, but Barbara (mom) heard them singing later. Such a great story they have. Born to sing, for sure!

      I have heard Barry say in several interviews that they were singing together when he was 6 or 7, the twins 3 or 4. He was writing lyrics when he was 8 and by the time he was 9 and got the guitar, the twins were joining him in creating lyrics and they had figured out harmonies. It’s mind-boggling to me that those three little boys were working together musically at such a young age! Then they stuck with it and had mastered their trademark harmony enough that they were performing professionally when Barry was in his early teens, the twins nine or ten! Think they signed a recording deal while still in Australia! Just incredible!
