Some of these artists, i.e. Al Green, did a BeeGees cover, but BeeGees didn't specifically write for him. They did write the Kenny Rogers album with Islands in the Stream, Streisand's album Guilty, Warwick's Heartbreaker, Ross' Chain Reaction, and Dion's Immortality. Way back in 1959 (I think) Wayne Newton bought one of Barry's songs :)

It is pretty moving to see all three of them here. These days, to see Barry interviewed alone, it’s downright heartbreaking. He carries the weight of a lot of loss being the oldest brother and yet the only one left.

The Bee Gees are from Isle of Man, England. Raised in Manchester. They migrated to Australia in 1958, where they were launched out from.

They're music goes back to the 60s. "I Started A Joke" "Words" "Massachusetts" are some great examples of the early music they were referring to in the interview. The one in the white shirt is Robin and sings lead on many of those early songs. He has an amazing vibrato.
They're from England and moved to Australia when they were kids. Tom Jones is from Wales.

These guys were sooo hilarious! Actually Robin was my favorite voice! I was in Heaven anytime I heard him sing! His vibrato was intense! Soooo beautiful!! You need to listen to the early sixties, and early 70’s. There will never be another Bee Gees. There will never be a never Robin! Never!! I also adored Maurice. He was sooo talented, sooo funny...sooo outgoing soooo gorgeous! His fashion sense was impeccable!!❤❤❤

They wrote "Grease" sung by Frankie Valli, "Woman in Love" (which Barry quoted the first couple of lines) for Barbra Streisand, "Islands In The Stream" for Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, "Heartbreaker" for Dionne Warwick, "If I Can't Have You" for Yvonne Elliman, "More Than A Woman" for Tavares, "Chain Reaction" for Diana Ross, "I Just Want To Be Your Everything" for their little brother Andy Gibb among many others.
Kenny Rogers like to tell this story about Islands In the Stream. Barry wrote it for him and was producing it. Kenny said he sang that song for four days and couldn't come up with a take that either of them liked. Kenny told Barry he didn't even like the song any more. Barry said "What this song needs is Dolly Parton." She was in the studio and agreed to sit in. Kenny said from the moment she walked in, it was a totally different song. Of Barry, Kenny said "That man is a visionary."
Yvonne Elliman... yes she was on the Saturday NIght Fever album.. wonderful singer.

They wrote most of the Saturday Night Fever album and some of their songs were given to other artists to sing.
And Emotion for Samantha Sang /Destinys child, Only One Woman for The Marbles, I Cannot Give You My Love for Cliff Richard, I Will Be There for Tina Turner, Heart (Stop Beating In Time) for Leo Sayer, Runaway for Carola, Immortallity for Celine Dion and many more.
Andy Gibb was their younger brother who had a solo music career. Some of his songs to listen to are: (Love Is) Thicker Than Water, Shadow Dancing, I Just Want To Be Your Everything.

It’s not so much that they had “a disco era”; they pretty much singlehandedly *defined* the disco era. They just wrote music and it basically became a genre.
Well, they definitely contributed. But, the Father of disco is Giorgio Moroder.
@@davidcapote7061 I’ve never heard of him but I just looked him up…he is only known as the “Father of Disco” in Europe (mainly France, Germany and Italy), and specifically of “Euro disco”, which is a sub-genre of the actual disco musical movement that preceded it. So no. He’s not the father of disco itself. PS: I must say that he’s had an amazing career though. Didn’t know he had composed all those film scores for Top Gun etc, and I feel like I should’ve heard of him. Will definitely look more into his work now.

"How Deep Is Your Love" actually falls into their R & B / Disco phase. Their earlier ballad phase includes songs like "To Love Somebody" and "I Started A Joke".

And of course, listening to the radio. I looked up some of their songs and was surprised that Massachusetts was their 5th hit song? Spicks and Specks was their first, followed by NY Mining Disaster, To Love Somebody and Holiday.
I do think Massachusetts was their most popular, tho' ,at that time.

They were born on the Isle of Man midway between England and Ireland, from there they moved to their fathers home city of Manchester where their brother Andy was born in 1958 and shortly after emigrated to Australia. Due to lack of commercial success they returned to England in 1967 to try their luck, the rest as they say is history.
Nice to see someone get that timeline correct instead of people insisting they were Australians. Never heard anyone think they were Americans or born in Wales though 😄

On your comment,they were were not British/Australian,they were British,and lived in Australia nearly 60 years ago. As for Barry,I’m not sure if he has US Citizenship or not,so he’s a Brit still.

They were born on the Isle of Man, located in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland. When Barry was about 6 and Robin and Maurice were 3 they moved to Manchester, England. Later the family immigrated to Australia, arriving there on Barry's 12th birthday. This is when they formed the Bee Gees, made records and appeared on local tv. When Barry was 20 and the twins were 17 they decided to return to England to try to make it BIG...and boy did they do that!!
The Bee Gees moved to Miami in 1974 to record an album. Robin eventually returned to live in England, but Maurice and Barry made their homes in Miami Beach. Barry and Linda had 1 son born in London, and 3 boys and finally a long awaited daughter all born in Miami Beach. In 2009 Barry, Linda and the eldest son became American citizens...and have live in Miami Beach over 45 years.

Diana Ross's early career with The Supremes was Motown. You'll like her duet with Lionel Richie - "Endless Love".
The Supremes were up there with the Beatles during the 60s in terms of popularity.
I was a huge Andy Gibb fan as a little girl. My big sister introduced me to his music because I had an interest in Barry. She didn’t want to share Barry posters with me. LOL. I was quite happy being a fan of Andy’s. One of my favorite songs of his was “Shadow Dancing”. He always looked a little bit like Barry too. He was so young when he died and so shocking.

I was lucky enough to live in Southern California when Andy was doing lots of TV shows and got to meet him a couple of times I mentioned him looking like his brother and he was so gracious to look surprised I'm sure he heard it a million times

I LOVE my Bee Gee Boys!! So many different songs, and styles. So sad at the loss of Andy, Robin, and Maurice. They started singing at a very young age.
Their brother Andy Gibb had several hits of his own before his death. He rivaled Barry with the falsetto...you may want to look him up as well.

My twin brother and younger brother used to sing together professionally as kids... The Bee Gees were our biggest inspiration. Our favorite thing was taking their songs which lend themselves to harmony and building our own arrangements to them. Love those guys.
As an Australian, we claim them as our own given that the most influential years (about 10 years) as performing brothers learning their craft were spent in Australia.

@@akiram6609 the Gibb brothers formed the Bee Gees when they lived in Australia and in its early days the band had three Australian- born members. I guess if you take these 2 points into account the Bee Gees can be viewed as a British/Australian band. However the Gibb brothers were never ever Australian citizens. All three kept their British citizenship. The only one who has dual nationality is Barry who is British/American.
There is no higher than Barbara Streisand! She is the best of the best. Her voice is beyond amazing. She is a living legend.

If you want to go deeper into their personalities & stories, I'd suggest 'The Anecdotes of...' each of them on TH-cam. I'd recommend you view them in this order: Maurice/Mo, then Robin, & finally Barry. I love the distinctive laughs that both Barry & Mo had...it'd be great if someone did an entire video of just the 2 of them laughing. fyi: they're British [born on the Isle of Man (between England & Ireland)]; then moved to Manchester, England; emigrated to Australia after Andy's birth; back to England about 8-10 years later; then Miami Beach, Florida, USA. All 3 had houses in Florida 2+/- blocks apart; Barry & Mo's primary homes were in Florida; but Robin's was in England.
The songs you’ve heard so far were 1975-1978. They had songs from 1968-2001. The ‘early’ stuff Robin referred to was their 1960s-early 1970s. Like “I Started a Joke”, “To Love Somebody” or “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart”. The song at the start of this interview was “Ordinary Lives” from 1989. They had many albums up to 2001s “This is Where I Came In” (their best video). Their sound changed many times over 45 years. And you might also like their tv appearances as kids in 1960 & 1963.
"This Is Where I Come In" is also one of their best songs of the last 20-odd years, IMHO.

The one song that features all of the boys showing off their voices would definitely be ' Fanny be tender ' live . First off it's an absolutely underrated masterpiece and it features each member doing their thing so much so that it leaves you unsure who is actually singing each note. Just a fabulous piece of work. Do try this...you will be singing along b4 the bridge like the other reactors have that have reacted to this song.
They never performed Fanny live..vocals far too complicated.I saw the Bee Gees in concert twice(saw a lot of concerts),and have to agree with Barry Gibb..he himself said Fanny was one of those songs just impossible to do justice on stage.

Many years ago I watched a documentary on the BeeGees. They actually are from Manchester England, and their mum told a story about when they were little boys and she and their dad would take them on outings, they would be singing and harmonising in the back seat of the car, lol. so one day Mum said to Dad, we should do something with these boys' voices.
What you've listened to is mostly the R&B stuff (How Deep Is Your Love" "Jive Talkin: "Saturday Night Fever", etc). They have older songs like "How Do You Mend A Broken Heart," "I Started a Joke" and "There's a Kind of Hush." Those were more love ballads and Robin Gibb was usually the lead singer. Barry started taking the lead in their Disco or R&B era.

1986 Barbra Streisand did a concert from her home in California. It was an HBO special but TH-cam has a concert from her home in 1986, she brings Barry on stage to do two songs with her. Unbelievable!The whole concert was unbelievable. I was so glad I found it on TH-cam. I remember watching it on HBO and 86

Woman in love - Barry and Robin.
Life Story - Barry and Robin.
Run Wild - Robin and Barry.
Promises - Robin and Barry.
Guilty - Maurice, Robin and Barry.
Most of the others were written by Barry and Albhy Galuten who also was a co-producer.

@@fatherman9 - No worries. I just find that so many people tend to think Barry was the sole songwriter. When the twins were young he definitely was because 3 years age difference is a big chasm for kids but once Robin turned @13 he hit the ground running with songs like Massachusetts, Got to get a message to you and I started a joke which were pretty much his ideas. About 90+% of Bee Gees songs were written by Robin and Barry or by all three. together. Each had their forte, Mo arranging and third harmony, Rob and Barry lyrically and melodically. Barry often makes a point of fans knowing that. Robin composed a few great songs even as a teenager like "I am the World" with lyrics way beyond his age and he had several solo albums (How old are you, Magnet, Secret agent, Walls have eyes, Robin's Reign, 50 St Catherine Drive) and solo songs that were huge in Europe, Australia and elsewhere but the Bee Gees and him were blackballed in the US after the disco backlash which was stupid and their loss. Very unfair. One thing good that came out of that was their developing their composing skills for other artists like Celine Dion (love "Immortality"), Dionne Warwick ("Heartbreaker") and others. The later Bee Gees albums were excellent but also ignored. Cheers. 😉

OK I am 60 and my husband and I just celebrated our 35 year wedding anniversary. I am actually in Gatlinburg Tennessee as I’m writing this. But I wanted you guys to know that we got to see them in 1978 and let me tell you it was one of the best days of my life. Of all the reaction videos that I’ve watched I don’t think I’ve seen anybody that gets into them as much as you do. I’m so glad I found your channel. I love the Bee Gees I am obsessed.
Started in the 60’s. Continued after they had a short breakup in the 70’s. Shunned by the music industry because they were so beyond successful, they started writing and producing for others such as Diana Ross, Barbera Streisand, Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton and others in the 80’s. Then felt comfortable writing for themselves again in the 90’s and 2000’s.
Btw, they were born on the Isla of Mann but moved to Australia very young and had their first musical success there. Then moved back to England and signed with the same recording company the Beetles were with. Later, Looking for a new spark, they moved to Florida and the rest is history.
Their latest documentary was on HBO a year ago. It was amazing! Called “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,” you must see it!

Nope, you haven't touched their old stuff. They started producing records back in the 60's. Back when some videos were black and white. They sang more what you would consider "Beatles" style back then.

Robyn is definitely the comedian, and Maurice the laid-back, serious one, and Barry was the eldest and leader of the family group who always looks out for them all. Andy was the baby brother that was much younger, and the one Barry couldn't protect, which still bothers him, from what I gathered from watching several recent interviews he's done. He misses them all a lot, and keeps going for them all.

@@ellenmontgomery8533 - Yes Mo was funny. He was more of a joker and family friendly. Robin was very acerbic, quick and sharp and often off color and he would crack his brothers up. A lot of Robin's wit flew over people's heads. He often used references that people didn't even understand because he was so clever. Both funny but in different ways. Barry was often stick in the middle.
My all time favorite song by the Bee Gees, and is an earlier older song from back when they were compared to the sound of the Beatles, was "Lonely Days".

So many terrific interviews. They are so funny. Maurice, in black is hilarious. Watch a couple of live concerts in Australia. I laughed so hard. He used to drink a lot. Sometimes he'd lay down on stage and go to sleep. All three are comedians.
When you can, watch the documentary on HBO about their life(lives) with Barry called 'How Can You Mend and Broken Heart'. It's really great.

When the music started to shift in the 80's, the BeeGee were still writing music and and singing in the background for Diana Ross, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Patron and Dionne Warwick.
Then the late 80's, early 90's they came back with new material and new music they were singing upfront again.
The more you get to know about them the more you will love them, always the jokesters but very down to earth! They are definitely one group that will never be duplicated!!
Still watching- paused to say...please start with the one they just mentioned of Barbara’s- “Woman in love.” My favorite of hers- Massive hit that they wrote for her, as they just mentioned- Also, people that stutter, can sing with NO stuttering- amazing!💝💙👍✌️
They are the only group that could literally compose a hit at the same time they got into a studio and record it then and there.
They were born on The Isle of Man, they grew up in Australia and returned to the U.K. in their twenties. I loved them when I was a kid, then when I was in the nursing home for 2 years I reintroduced myself to their music and their music got me through the time of my Uncle’s death, because I wasn’t capable of being there. Their music was like a balm to my soul at that time. I am now a Bee Gees superfan.
Wonderful reaction!! Please react to TO LOVE SOMEBODY - the 1967 black and white tv appearance. Barry is 20 and the twins are 17. Definitely R&B, and one of their most covered classic hits. Also... Barry announced at 8yo that he was going to be a pop star, and the twins asked if they could be pop stars, too. They started singing together then, always looking for an audience. The family immigrated to Australia to keep the boys out of reform school, landed on Barry’s 12th birthday, and within months had been heard by a DJ and connected with small scale management and started working professionally. Shortly after that they became the sole financial support for their family of 7 with their father managing them and their mother doing all the laundry. All dropped out of school before turning 15. Their mother said they only had 1 or 2 weekends in the 7 years in Australia that they weren’t working. The passion and dream and work ethic is incredible. They did a lot of live tv performances which are wonderful. The earliest is TIME IN PASSING BY from 1960 at ages 13 and 10. You have sooooooo many great discoveries ahead. Diana Ross and Barbra Streisand were both mega stars for years and are still active. Two Female Friday musts. Barbra's an incredible singer and is also an Academy Award winner, having starred in several big movies. But her voice is probably her most outstanding talent.
The Bee Gees first hits were around 1967 with such songs as "Massachusetts", "I Started A Joke", "Words", and "I've Gotta Get A Message To You". They were more soft pop ballad type songs. In 1975, their so called disco era began with "Jive Talkin", "Nights On Broadway", "You Should Be Dancing" and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack songs. In their post hit years, they wrote and produced many hit songs for other artists, such as Barbra ("Guilty", "Woman In Love", "What Kind Of Love"), Kenny and Dolly ("Islands In The Stream") Dionne Warwick ("Heartbreaker") Diana Ross ("Chain Reaction") Olivia Newton-John ("Carried Away", "Come On Over", "The Heart Knows") among many others. They were born on The Isle of Man England but emigrated to Redcliffe Queensland Australia. Barry is the only surviving brother, Maurice died 2003 and Robin died 2012.

“How Deep Is Your Love” is Saturday Night Bee Gees…when Robin (the one in the white shirt) says their earlier stuff he’s referring to their 60’s music (before Barry had discovered his falsetto) like “To Love Somebody”. You should really listen to their earlier stuff, it also showcases Robins voice which is just beautiful (“I Started A Joke” “Massachusetts”). I’m sure Amber would love early Bee Gees. This is why we keep suggesting you watch the HBO Max Documentary, it’s brilliant and it’ll give you more of an appreciation for this brilliant group. The Bee Gees are first and foremost songwriters, and damn good ones at that.

The Way we were is my favourite movie. That title song is one of my favourite songs as well. The closing scene of that movie breaks me every single time. Robert Redford is not so bad, either...
You both need to watch the biography of their lives. This covers them from little kids to adulthood. It is so very personal you would love it.
Guys, this is a treat!! The interview choice a great one, and I'm happy you both got so much out of it. They are all such charming gents! Barry is 3 years older than the fraternal twins Robin (in white) and "Mo" Maurice (the laid-back one). Andy was less than 9 years younger than the twins.

It's a weird feeling and it still freaks me out sometimes, when you forget, cos you're listening to adults,how much younger they are and they say things like"oh, I've heard of Diana Ross" and"..Barbra Streisand-I thought she was more an actress"-!-not just you,of course,others of your generation have said similar -then you think, that's how my parents/grandparents must have felt when I'd said same about the stars of their youth-and your turn is yet to come!

When I recommended "Heartbreaker" by Dionne Warwick I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag but yes the Bee Gees wrote it and Barry sings back-up and plays guitar.
Barbara Streisand is one of the great female singers of our generation. She has an album with Barry called Guilty Pleasures. But the first song you want to play by her is "The Way We Were"
Just to add some; 2005's "Guilty Pleasures" is Barb & Barry's 2nd album. It was "only" certified Gold & "only" hit #5. Their album 25 years earlier, "Guilty", 1980, was huge. #1 in the US, the UK & 10 other countries, certified multi-Platinum, AMA & Grammy award winner.
And the beegees actually do a fantastic job of singing "heartbreaker" in their stage shows.
The guy in the white shirt is Robin. He sang lead on many of their early songs. The guy in the hat is Maurice. He's the multi instrumentalist of the group. I always wondered if he was going to be on keyboards, bass guitar or electric guitar. He did production work for others as well as their group. He produced a song for Ringo Starr on his Sentimental Journey album. But he rarely sang lead. He wasn't interested in doing that, but he could have easily done so.
There is so much from these guys you need to hear. They continued to create hits in the 80s, 90s, and 2001. Barry doesn’t only sing high or falsetto. He had an album in 2016 called In The Now. The title song is so good. He collaborated with his older sons, and has more of a rock influence. Please listen to more from them.

ROB, there are so many interviews out there that you need to see! Have you seen Barry's 80's movie "Voyager Now"?? A lot of great songs in it! I know they didn't like doing Sgt Pepper movie but I loved it because they weren't afraid to do something different. The same with "Cucumber Castle". It was a bit ridiculous but again , some great songs! I am happy to see you are enjoying the Bee Gees! They wrote for a lot of different artists. But they also did duets with stars. You should see Barry Gibb sing with Barbara Streisand singing "Guilty" It is a really great song and duet. Also, The Bee Gees always had a really great sense of humor. Every interview I ever saw, they would crack jokes about themselves and they were so funny! Islands in the Stream (I think you reacted to it) with Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, that was a Bee Gees song. Just so you know, Robin is the one in the white shirt and Maurice is the one in the hat, they are twins. And of course, you know Barry!

They had amazing songs during the 60's~you should investigate. They are amazing tunes. They were an unbelievable force in the music world.
The Bee Gees catalog of music stretches all the way back to 1958 when the entire family emigrated to Australia from England that same year. They created music spanning 6 decades, so you have really only uncovered the tip of the iceberg with what you have listened/reacted to thus far.
There are quite a few videos of them performing on Australian television when they were just kids which I would highly recommend you guys watching. And then move to their late 60s music starting with New York Mining Disaster, To Love Somebody, Massachusetts (their first UK #1), I Started a Joke (Robin’s signature song), Lonely Days and How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (the final 2 were written when they reunited after a nearly two year split). This brings you up to 1970-71 and you will still have 40 more years of great music to cover.
