I can't believe I just noticed this, but Huey, Dewey, and Louie are wearing the same colors as Alvin and the Chipmunks.
neffyboy These episodes are from a time when there were less colors, just after the grayscale period.
The red, green, blue color combo for sets of three is actually super common! After all, they're the three colors of light that combine to make other colors (e.g. the three colors used in your TV/computer to bring you all these wacky toons). You can see the red/green/blue combo in a LOT of visual entertainment, especially for kids. (The red/green/blue/yellow combo is also fairly common; they're very kid-oriented for some reason, not sure why.)

Alvin and the Chipmunks, Huey, Dewey, and Louie, The Powerpuff Girls, Numbuhs 1, 2, and 3 of Codename: Kids Next Door (mildly cherry picking, but I think it's significant that those are the first three), the goddesses in Zelda are represented by red, green, and blue. LCD and CRT screens do use red, green, and blue pixels to blend and create colors, as Arizona pointed out.

...it actually had a coherent story line? I always assumed it was just a new adventure each week, that didn't tie into the story.
and you are correct, the episodes in this review however, are the 5 episode arc pilot story, which back then also aired as Super DuckTales
There was a few part episodes here and there, but yeah mostly one offs each time. The one they time travel and the other with Klang (voiced by Tim Curry) were more than one episode.
it's actually how the mickey mouse and donald duck comics are structured! in europe, before amd even after the show aired, disney pubblished them but the stories are written by italian writers read up the rest of the story is actually really interesting. .. And its still going!
Actually, in seasons 1, the 5 first episodes, Temple of the Golden Suns, is the first story arc of the show, then in season 2 they had two other arcs: Super DuckTales, which introduced Fenton/Gizmo Duck, and the other was Time is Money, introducing Bubba the Cave Duck.
Bubba and Fenton were both featured as reccurent characters in Season 3 and 4 after they're arcs. The rest of the show was just a new adventure without ties, like you said

The theme song for Ducktales is oddly similar to the Footloose song. I thought I was going crazy so I googled it and I'm apparently not the only one who thinks so

A magical part of my childhood. Scrooge always has been and always will be my favorite Disney character. Alan Young was born to play that character. The first two seasons were classics with beautiful animation.
They're rebooting the series. From what it looks like it's kind of a Gravity falls esque show but with a comic book art style. Webby will be there but her voice isn't annoying.
well the producer worked on gravity falls previously and has a good track record so far so it's promising.
I saw the trailer and I really liked it. I laughed at a lot of the jokes.

Great thing about there not being pop culture and references to popular things at the time, makes shows like these all the more timeless. I could watch ducktales today and find it just as enjoyable as I did back in the 80s

The reboot has me sold when they cast david tennant as scrooge McDuck.
The change I liked from from the original to to remake is the remake explains what happened to the triplets parents. It even had the mother in a few episodes.
At 12:45; was that a picture of Scrooge McDuck next to the father of Donald's nephews?
Barks' and Rosa's comics already did that and much better. I really dislike any other (modern) version of these characters. Duckverse is set in the `50's, FFS.

This shows brings back so many good childhood memories. Me and brothers used to always watch it. And I can say with 100% certainty that this version is a million times better than the reboot that is out!!!!

@@skydawn4103 its your opinion and you have every right to have them, but i disagree on her being a "mary sue", she is capable of fighting and has alot of knowledge when it comes to duck lore, but she still has flaws like all the other characters, she wasnt perfect, she didnt know much about the world outside the manor, she had terrible social skills and for all her knowledge she was still naive, but she grew and developed like the other characters, and again the vast majority are still the vast majority, you dont need to be a part of them or agree with them but they are still the vast majority and if the show hadnt focused on what people liked, it whouldnt be as loved by many

Tokkafan4life :: Channel Awesome isn't owned by Disney; Maker Studios (and its subsidiaries, which included the now-deceased Blip) was bought out by Disney a few years back. Until recently CA, and moreover Doug Walker, had a contract in place where Nostalgia Critic content would be hosted on Maker.tv earlier than on TH-cam or even CA's own website. When that contract expired, they stopped posting there early and eventually stopped posting there altogether before Disney shut Maker.TV down and moved Maker Studios into their newly developed Digital Network. That's why there were a number of episodes hosted on Maker's sites for a while.
No you shouldn't count on nostalgia because then people will say the new Ducktales is worse even if it's better.
One of the best things they did in season 2 of the reboot was to completely lampoon gold fever as a scheme made up by the insanely inept insane flintheart glomgold, which couldnt possibly be real

One change made from the original '87 cartoon to the 2017 reboot that I really liked was how they managed to give Huey, Dewey, Louie and even Webby their own unique personalities. Louie doesn't want to do anything unless it involves him making a lot of money out of it, Webby is bit of a thrill seeker, Dewey is a goofball, and Huey is the responsible one. I also liked how Mrs. Beakley's backstory in which she and Scrooge were actually undercover agents at some point in their lives. It's really cool.
I love how Scrooge says ggggglllllrounded! (Grounded)! 😂😂and also gold! Gold! GOLD!!! 😂😂😂

I have fond memories of this series and always used to love Launchpad. I was disappointed as a kid when they eventually phased him out when they introduced Bubba and Fenton Crackshell/Gizmoduck. I did hear though that they had his character crossover to Darkwing Duck where he became the title characters sidekick.
At least Launchpad appeared in the series 2 part finale ‘The Golden Goose’ and the Lost Lamp movie.
You need to do more stuff on the reboot as it is fantastic
As a big Donald Duck fan and read all of the Donald Duck comics I really loved this one.
This is one of my favorite classic NC reviews as most of the jokes and references hit bulls eyes for me. My two favorites are "I also embezzled Mickey Mouse out of a house and home but that's another story", and the other moment is El Capitan ordering a pizza with a gold card.

I think the origin is their dad got hurt in an accident and their mom Della sent the kids to Donald while she takes care of her husband. I accept this as a canon 'cause Carl Barks and Don Rosa adapted the story too and never told the name of the dad character. Even in the family tree it only says "Duck" as the name and there's a pigeon in front of him.

talk about a meta event for sure! although some jokes have aged a lot, the good ones still shine through and are very well done and clever! definitely a good classic video. Ducktales is special to many many fans myself included and I can tell you worked hard to capture and celebrate that magic!

I just realized that when critic was doing drinking game, he's drinking coconut rum. Which has little alcohol in it.
This actually just made me a little emotional, because I loved this show when I was a kid and I haven't seen it like since then. It's as nostalgic for me as it is ultimately catchy. You're right, I probably won't get this out of my head anytime soon! ;D Anyway, this isn't going away like Rebecca Black's Friday; one it's awesome, and two it's already like over twenty years old or something.
