The thing I remember most about this movie is Roger Ebert giving it thumbs up. That led to one of his better ongoing arguments with the appalled Siskel.
They each liked the other's Worst of '93 😁
Those two had some of the funniest debates when they disagreed on certain movies. NC included the Ebert-Siskel debate on this movie on his “Funniest Siskel and Ebert Insults”
Roger Ebert gave thumbs up to a lot of really bad movies, including several NC has roasted: Cop and a Half, Congo, The Haunting (1999), Home Alone 3, and Van Helsing. He also gave "The Cell" **** and said it was one of the year's best movies. I don't think the movie is as bad as NC makes it seem, but it's definitely not a **** movie.

By far the new was better, unfortunately though Dredd was a tough sell, partly due to the R rating and that Dredd is a facist hero so it wasn't going to appeal to markets it depended on.

But seriously, I missed this review until now and had to check the date when NC delivered that joke. Figures that it's a re-upload. I can't imagine the NC of today making this same joke, at least not without 5 minutes of apologizing before and after it. Current events make this joke a bit more cruel than it was originally. But also, the NC-From-The-Past was a bunch edgier than he is today. I miss that, but I understand why he'd just want to avoid the shitshow that would ensue if he tried going back to that style of humor. People are more easily offended now, some of them because they're just insecure, but others because real life events just have everyone on edge. It's a shame :(

Hell I think the sequel/spin-off makes more sense than this. Because the kid in that movie actually has a connection with why the kid wants to be a cop. Plus the Cop and a half: New Recruit movie combines well with todays generation

Funny seeing Ray Sharkey who played Sonny Steelgrave in Wiseguy essentially playing a parody of Steelgrave in this movie. Burt Reynolds was not the only one to hit a low point in this movie
Actually, my school is pre k through 12th grade, so it's not totally unbelievable that the older kids are in the same school as the younger kids. Also, this was made a while ago, so it was a lot more common for schools to be of a very large age range compared to today.
