This method also works with cardboard for even more accesable and budget option. Thanks for bringing my idea together. Your rock method is definitly better. It probably works better for a fjord crossing as well
Some 3mm cube magnets glued in a 3mm square notch in the bottom layer, cut so they will be hidden (and reinforced) under the raised bank sections could work. 2 magnets per end, one under each bank, with opposite polarities pointing out away from the the river, this way any river piece will connect to the next. Just a thought. Keep at it mate!
Like the good old days of rubbishinrubbishout. My vote would be for a floating dowel connector that could be hidden below the extra layer used for the banks. Consider trying some without the extra piece for the bank and making the bank using just the ground cover? If you are only using glue for the water effect you don't need that much thickness.
The only issue with not including the banks is that the MDF will warp MUCH easier. The banks help provide a support for the base layer, helping to reduce any potential warping
Perhaps both options. :) magnets and or slot together. I'm wanting to try magnets one day, but for now will use the eba foam tiles. I also have that same painting problem. XD i hope you succeed at whatever you're trying to do!
Great idea for rivers I wonder if a locking tab like the Gym shop EVA foam tiles have. Maybe a tab at the edge of the river sections and using the banks to hide the tabs might work lol
Looks cool, I am interested in seeing the final result. I think some tabs might be more interesting in terms of cost for the future consummers. And the ones taht want to can still add magnets later.
It would be neat to have a "best of both worlds" scenario but I just haven't found something that works ... a little more design time though and I'm sure I'll figure something out
@@KnightsOfDice Maybe have the banks big enough to be able to drill a hole for a 3mm magnet at each end? Clips sound good, but they'd have to allow for a resin pour over the pieces.
Good job l think theses will be a great for your product line. Can you include a pond say six or seven inches in diameter that could possibly connect to the rivers?
What about adding a drop or two of the alchohal dyes used for resin pours to the PVA mix? Also if you want a greater sense of depth what about printing out color image on gloss paper fixing that down with spray adhesive then doing the banks and glue over the top of that?
Awesome. I am looking forward to seeing how you do the resin pour when the time comes. I have had difficulty with this sort of modular river in the past. First is the issue of blocking off the ends to keep the resin in, and then the issue of the surface tension lip that causes little peaks where the pieces join. Fingers crossed you come up with some great solutions.
I have been following the progress, and last week dug out the recently delivered Upzone Kickstarter, which includes a river, it didn't work great, so I'm still very interested in this.
It was a KickStarter for terrain made of cardboard, that pops out like a classic children's story book, and the terrain is great, but the river was just very thin card, and while it doesn't look terrible, I might pick up one of yours when they hit the web-store. I have been a supporter of yours for a few years, including the rubbishinrubbishout stuff.
Good stuff! Is blue really that bad a choice? It may technically not be the most realistic, but it’s the most evocative. But I’m a noob. Also, I lean toward magnets for ease of setup and takedown.
I added the blue because you will always get a slight blue reflection (from the sky), but as Luke from Geek Gaming Scenics will say, "Water isnt blue" :)
Bloody water ... grrrr. :) There is plenty I've recorded at the studio so far, I'll see what I use but it nice to do some actual terrain work ... plenty more to come as I get back into things properly!

Hehe, this is the exact plan! I've been waiting on the magnets to arrive which came in on Thursday
@@KnightsOfDice Looking forward to seeing the outcome!!
Your daughter should get the worker of the month award :D
She gets that award every day! Love her to bits.
Brave person painting in a fluffy bed robe.
It's the only way to hobby, we recently passed a new law here that requires to wearing of nightware whilst painting. I dont want to be a criminal
@@KnightsOfDice I ruined a perfectly good black jacket with PVA splatter. Only noticed at when I wore it for the dawn service the other day.

As far as rivers go and you making this on the fast and cheap . I’ll be honest , that ain’t bad looking . Good job Viv !
It looks pretty good eh. I swear painting and making the rivers took less time than editing the video, hehe
@@KnightsOfDice lol 😂
I don't mind the blue, I think it just needs a tiny bit of black in the very centre.

Wyloch used a tab system that may work well to keep your pieces together.
Love how this is shaping up, and can't wait to order the product when the time comes.
Coming along nicely, Viv. I'm sure you'll come up with a good connector solution
Much appreciate, it was a fun little project to break up all the work cleaning up and sorting out the studio.

Really nice work

I had thought about a butterfly clip, it's certainly a good method
Those came out pretty good and definitely show the potential. I like the idea of magnets - or at least being setup to add them. Cheers!
Yeah ... the magnets sit under the bank, so you don't need to use them if you don't want too.

Looking good. Wide rivers for my battletech alpha strike games I see alot of use for them in my games.. can not wait for the final product looks like
These would be a great wide river for Battletech, for other games this would be a narrow creek, hehe :)

You will always get the little lip (it's called a meniscus) when pouring resin, the only way to deal with that is to sand and polish the lip away.
Cool.
Whatever happened to your plastic strip sheet river tests? Did you try thicker plastic??
Don't see a follow up vid.
Cheers!

Not familiar with the KS, but that sucks the river doesn't work well for you :(
