In 1967/68, I served with 3rd Squadron 11th Cavalry. Your presentation is superbly well done and representative of Cav operations I am familiar with, especially regarding the 25th Infantry Division with whom the Cav operated with on numerous occasions. Well done, gentlemen..
Great to see you fellas back! Loved the report. Excellent graphics, lovely table, and very well produced. Wish there was more historical gaming content out there made at this level!
Thank you for posting this. My father was actually an M113 tank commander in the Black Horse during Vietnam. It was odd seeing the video - as I've never seen most of that before. I wont lie, I was watching pretty carefully to see if he was in any of the content. He passed away several years ago, but there has never been a YT video that I wanted to share more
Thanks for watching. One thing I've found interesting after posting this video is the number of people that have commented that were either in the regiment or connected to it in some way. It is a fascinating topic.

Thanks for a informative video. One of my first Tank Commanders served with Black Horse in Vietnam. Best Tank Commander I ever had the pleasure to serve on his crew, and wingman when I got my own turn in the commanders seat. Great men fighting in hard operational conditions for armor but they made it work. One thing he talked about was the use of "beehive" to clear jungle around them quickly. We only had a setting for the round when I was in, but never saw or even trained to use it in my time in.
I really enjoyed the video. Here's some more recent 11th ACR history for you. I served in HHT Regiment (Hellraisers) in Fulda Germany as a Bradley mechanic from 88 to 92 and got sent to Ft. Polk right before the draw down. We went to Kuwait as an occupation force right after Desert Storm. One of the M1 tanks caught on fire and cooked off the rounds onboard spreading to other vehicles and creating carnage throughout the vehicle lines. I remember the SGT Major crawling under a M35 Deuce-and-a-half next to me to avoid flying rounds and debris. We lost some folks during and after as we had to walk around picking up unexploded ordnance and drop it into sand-bag lined trailers pulled by Humvees. What a waist.
Thanks for the watch and for your service with Black Horse. Its been awesome reading all the comments from former member of the regiment. Very storied history.
My grandfather served in Black Horse during Vietnam (years unknown to me) he operated in 5 different M551 Sheridans. said the only thing on the tank that ever worked right was the M2 up top
Our homebrew rules are a beer stained pile of notebook paper haha, Im not sure ours will be available. But this should be a big "wink wink" to the Battlegroup team haha.
We work on something similar in Austria (in German). We look forward to seeing more of your interpretation. By the way, great table! So you use Discord?
First...wow! Great looking table. Great presentation of a gripping narrative. Second...Allons! Served with the 11 ACR in the early '90s until the V Corps draw down. Fond memories.
Thank you! This was absolutely riveting to watch. I love the narration and the background sound effects. The sound effects really make the battle very immersive! Well done!
I just found you channel yesterday and have been binge-watching ever since! I love the way you guys make these reports! It makes me want to start gaming!
Yet another immaculate Bat rep from Long Shot Wargaming! It's very clear, the amount of hard work that goes into these productions. Many Thanks Gents👍👍🥃
Loved the video @LongShotWargaming! Can't wait for the next video Guys! First video of yours that I'm watching and absolutely loving the content! Hello from Prince George's County, Maryland! 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment is still around, being based at Fort Irwin in California, however it's now working in the OPFOR (Opposition Forces) Role of the United States Army with M1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks and M2/M3 Bradley Infantry/Cavalry Fighting Vehicles modified to look like Soviet-Era Equipment. Only 2 Parts of the 11th ACR's Organization are part of the National Guard. 1st Squadron, 221st Cavalry Regiment is part of the Nevada Army National Guard and 1st Battalion, 144th Field Artillery Regiment is part of the California Army National Guard. I am Checking things out on Wikipedia about the Blackhorse Regiment though, so take that with a Grain of Salt even if it's the Best I can do as I'm typing this up. What a beautiful game: a documented introduction, wonderful diorama landscape and figures (the latter may be too clean in comparison to the actual vehicles as seen in the intro). A real pleasure to see such a good display.
Really nice work! Your ability to combine sound effects and good photography kept the story interesting throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed this video and admire how you used the game to explore and better understand armor during the Vietnam Conflict - so I got to learn something too! Again - excellent work!
Glad to see your return to posting videos, I hope you’re able to continue. Really enjoy your videos. Excellent work. I would echo Little wars Tv sentiments.
Not too badly. VC always got the drop and made their first shots count. But outnumbered & gunned, couldn't go up against the Regiment. I find it very interesting how the Order of Battle is quite similar to what I am aiming for with my force. I'll need to do some double checking. But it's relatively close.
The possibilities are endless. That's something i both love and hate about this hobby. I have an idea list five pages long, ill need three lifetimes to accomplish them all. Bush Wars would make a great skirmish scenario. Force on Force has a campaign supplement for it.

In answer to your question. Armour played a crucial part at the battle of Long Tan for us Australians, so I would say if used correctly, it had an important part to play in Vietnam.
Great battle report, great looking models, great table! Very nice work, I like how the vehicles were not side by side, like Napoleon's guys. Too much of that nonsense is going around!
Hi guys, I am new to military war gaming and I love the look and feel of the Vietnam war game you showed. I have bought some 28mm Rubicon figures and vehicles but I don't know where to look for rules etc, could you suggest some online forums as well which might be able help me? I'm used to rolling dice with Star Wars Legion so being pinned down is kinda like suppression in that game.
Thanks for the view! If you are interested in Vietnam wargaming it sounds like you're off to a great start. The Rubicon Stuff in 28mm is fantastic. Another great manufacturer of Vietnam stuff in that scale is Empress Miniatures. As far as rules are concerned, there are several great options. I would check out "Nam 68" by Warwick Kinrade. It is recently released skirmish rules. But to list a couple other options to research: "Force of Force" (out of print sadly), "Charlie Don't Surf", "BOHICA", " Charle Company" and "FNG Tour of Duty". One of these will certainly satisfy your interests. In 15mm scale, Battlefront is a great source of miniatures and they have a ruleset for that scale called, "NAM". Happy gaming, I'm glad to hear from a new historical gamer!
Great video. I am on the look out for a set of Vietnam rules - so far everything I have tried has in some way fallen short. Are your mods for Battlefront available anywhere?
Our mods for Battlegroup are a beer stained pile of notebook paper haha, but if you have the core BG rulebook and a couple buddies to discuss Vietnam with its pretty easy and fun to come up with some Vietnam rules. For example MEDEVACs, theater appropriate vehicle and gun data, boobytraps, all kinds of stuff.
Awesome batrep! We've been planning to homebrew some Vietnam games ourselves too. I wonder how you handled the automatic rifles, 2-3 shots per figure or to keep it sane just 1 per model?
Yes, this created quite a conversation when we were brainstorming. We did give AK-47 and M16 type rifles a RoF of 2. This gave American squads a tremendous amount of firepower. But, another modification we made was adding 1 to the cover save of any VC unit. The result was the American squads expending an unbelievable amount of ammunition to score just a couple hits. Which in our opinions proves quite historically accurate.
@@LongShotWargaming ah that is a brilliant idea. Combined with the blind deployments it gives a period accurate result! Thanks for the tip will bring that to my group for discussion.
Most of the game there weren't any VC models on the table. the VC player moved small chips around on a separate map of the table until the VC units fired or were spotted. It worked pretty well.
Great video, and amazing table. Thanks for posting. Small thing - 'cache' is pronounced 'cash'. For it to be 'cashay' it'd need to be written 'caché' or 'cachet'. Both are words, but they're not applicable here. ('How close can we get to 'All Along the Watchtower' without it being 'All Along the Watchtower'?') Best regards from the UK
Hello Piers, thanks for watching! Admittedly, what we portrayed here as a comprehensive and well put together supplement is actually a barley coherent pile of scribbled notes at this point haha. But i will say the Vietnam flavored additions we did come up with blended with the existing BG mechanism quite well. Battlegroup is a great game and there's loads of potential in our opinions for expansion into other areas.
Well done video. I must say, the Sheridans got smoked pretty quickly. While tough to knock out with shoulder-fired weapons... the Russians are facing similar struggles in Ukraine.
Do you know where I might be able to find 11 ACR decals for the flash in this scale? I want to use the patch as a unit marking for a Battletech company but I'm having trouble finding something.
@@LongShotWargaming thanks, I took a look but it doesn't appear that the sheet has what I need, which is the rearing horse on the red and white background.
Unfortunately our rule "modifications" are not available. But, there are a lot of Vietnam related rules available. Charlie Company, BOHICA, Force on Force, and Charlie Don't Surf are all popular.

Looks like 15mm since they look like flames of war models.
They are (I think they actually mention it in the vid) battlefronts 15mm line for their Nam ruleset.

Do you know where I might be able to find 11 ACR decals for the flash in this scale? I want to use the patch as a unit marking for a Battletech company but I'm having trouble finding something.
Not sure, the decals used on these minis came with the "Black Horse" box set. They might be available from Battlefront Miniatures individually.
@@LongShotWargaming thanks, I took a look but it doesn't appear that the sheet has what I need, which is the rearing horse on the red and white background.
Loved this. Would you be willing to share you Battle group house rules to make them Vietnam esque?
well done!
Thanks for the watch and comment!
any chance of a tour of your games room it looks amazing
well job!! is it possible to find homebrew vietnam somewhere?
Unfortunately our rule "modifications" are not available. But, there are a lot of Vietnam related rules available. Charlie Company, BOHICA, Force on Force, and Charlie Don't Surf are all popular.
