2023: The regulatory body further calls BetterHelp to pay $7.8 million to consumers as a part of a settlement over allegations it shared sensitive health information with third parties such as social media platforms and digital advertisers.
The FTC says the company doubled down on deception by falsely denying it had shared consumers' personal information - including their health information - with third parties. The eight-count complaint details how the FTC says BetterHelp's allegedly deceptive and unfair practices harmed consumers.
The professional TH-camrs, who shared personal mental health struggles as part of their ads, faced backlash when it came out that they were paid for each customer who signed up for BetterHelp through their unique links-sometimes up to $200 per person.
Do not trust the BetterHelp therapists. They are so sketch," said O'Hara. "My one session with a BetterHelp therapist retraumatized me to the point where I don't know if I'll ever go back to therapy again."
O'Hara alleged the therapist was confused by her diagnosis of CPTSD (complex post-traumatic stress disorder), seemingly not understanding what the term meant, and expected the patient to describe the differences between CPTSD and PTSD.

This reminds me of a reddit story that I think r/slash has done before:
The wife of the story was abused by her narcissistic husband and one of the ways that he would get under her skin would be to take a bunch of pills and have her find him with enough time for her to call an ambulance in order to save his life he would gaslight the wife for driving him to take all those meds.
When the wife recognized that was what her husband was doing the overdose thing again she just sat down on the couch and waited until it was far too long before calling the paramedics, since the guy had a known history of abusing medication they ruled it a suicide and wife lived free from then on.

Dammit R/slash, I love the video but stop it already with the Better Help promos. It's well known how scummy they are, their therapists are not licensed and only out for their own gain. They're a huge danger to people who are ALREADY in an extremely vulnerable mental state. I don't know how much they're paying you, but it can't be enough to put people in danger over it. This is more than just a bad product, it's actively dangerous. Please stop promoting them.
EDIT: I honestly don't care much about the "contract" excuse, even if it's true. First of, it's up to the creator to inform themselves about a sponsor, and to have a contract lawyer read them over before signing anything so as to not get screwed. Secondly, they should always make sure they have an out to end the sponsorship if they feel the sponsor is being shitty.

The last story... I was mollested from the age of 12 to 16 years old by my grandfather my dad's dad. You're probably thinking why I grew up to be a teenager until he stopped... he was the leader of the family and everyone feared him. I strongly believe my aunts knew and let me be the scapecoat while my dad was overseas so their daughters wouldn't be tainted...I tried telling people but didn't fully know how to talk about it and people told me to shut up. I was a sheltered Arab girl. When I was 16 I finally managed to squirm and act like I was going to help my grandmother in the kitchen. I think he sensed I didn't want to be around him. I started telling dad when he was around if I could skip going to my grandparents. One time I was going to skip but my little sister and brother, my sister being 6 and brother being 3 wanted to go. I suddenly realized I HAD to go to protect them. My grandfather kept trying to have them sit on his lap, to have my sister go to his room, etc. It was heart breaking watching all this unfold to my little sister so I would walk with them and not let them out of my sight. I told my sister my grandfather's knees hurt so don't sit on his lap, but after a quick bathroom break she was on his lap and I felt so sickened. Anyways... fast forward to being 19 years old, and I told my dad after we went back to live in the states. My dad wasn't a good guy either and said "so you'd put your old man grandfather in jail?" And after years of boiling pain I responded "Baba if you ever touch my kids like that I will kill you." I said it with such poison in my voice. He knew I was serious. He made me go to my room. My grandmother fell ill. He went back to our country to see her and told her before she died. She cried on her deathbed... she wasn't the best person in the world but she wasn't evil so I hold no mallice to her. She managed to find peace with it and died with a smile on her face. My sister who still lived with my mom in our country came to see my dad and grandmother , and my grandfather tried to get her in his room (they had separate bedrooms) and my dad pulled her away and said "NEVER go in his room alone." My dad acted like he didn't believe me before but suddenly I think it clicked and made sense for him. He didn't let my kid cousins sit on his lap. He watched alot. He never faced him though. My grandfather remarried within TWO MONTHS of my grandmother's passing. My dad didn't go to his wedding. He also didn't go see him. He stayed in the states, even after recieving news that my grandfather fell ill. He waited till he died. My stepmom texted me while I was at work that he died. I was living with my mom and sister who came to live in the states. I felt numb for a while. I felt like justice was not served, that he simply escaped any repercussions. That wasn't the case. He died of testicular cancer that went untested for years until it spread into his bones and blood. His leg literally shattered one day. He went to the hospital and died there alone. His new wife had went home, my dad's cousin had come to visit but left the room to grab a drink and he died there, alone. The doctors told my dad's family that he developed testicular cancer 9 years before. I was 21 then. And did the math. I was 12 when he developed the cancer and when he first began doing these things to me. He developed cancer possibly the moment he touched me!
It was God's punishment or Karma. Whatever y'all believe in. My dad never faced him tho, and the day we found out we were all called to my dad's house where he asked if I could find peace in my heart and forgive my grandfather. I said no. I cried as I told him how alone I felt for years. He started crying and said "why are you telling me this? Now I don't want to forgive him!"
My dad flew back for the funeral and ofc for the will reading. He got mostly everything as the oldest son. I went into therapy, and was also in college for Psychology. I'm a vocational specialist for people with severe mental illness now and am aiming to get my Masters and become a therapist to go help the people in Gaza when there's passage.
I would've loved to witness his death, but maybe I can simply live a life well lived. I had nightmares, and my mental health was so bad. I finally found peace tho. I'm engaged to be married, despite people saying I'm used goods, 26 years old, a great job doing what I love and yeah... that's my revenge. Thanks for reading.

Wow. That's some clear victim blaming. If I've ever seen any. I'm going to let you in on a little surprise victims don't have to be the Virgin Mary in order to be a victim. As someone who works with victims of sexual assault and domestic violence you're wording is very familiar to me. It sounds like somebody who's an enabler. Write down to nitpicking little phrases she used. Honestly, you would make a sleazy defense attorney that defends a rapist and goes on to a woman's social media page and picks a part an outfit or pics apart how much she had to drink that night. Very proud.
Just so you understand, a victim doesn't have to be a Virgin Mary in order to be a victim. Also, to be clear, this woman is a victim of gaslighting, manipulation, emotional and mental abuse. And she owes her abuser nothing. The fact that you think she needs to behave like the virgin Mary in her life towards her abuser is what's really disgusting.
Don't come back and say that's not what I meant. And for the love of God, don't come back saying putting words in your mouth. That's exactly what you meant. You just don't like that. I called you out on it. Because me is somebody who works in a victim advocacy group that works with victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse, can't tell the difference between what you said and the people in the life of an abuser or rapist who makes excuses for their behavior say. It may be something you want to take a look at.

The last story: For anyone hatching similar revenge, strokes can be time sensitive, but they aren't always fatal if you delay getting medical attention by hours. Our father had a stroke in 2015 bc of stress over a broken water heater during winter, he was afraid his pipes will freeze over and ruin the whole plumbing for the house.
This man got up in the morning, took a bus two cities over to mandatory work training, attended the training, then came back late in the afternoon. I was there supervising the emergency plumber he had called. He walked in a drunk stuper kind of way, then started chatting, slurring, making jokes he had a stroke during the night. At that point it was 17 hours since he had the stroke, and it took coaxing by several family members to get him into a car to get driven to the hospital.
I'm glad to report he passed the 5 year mark with no repeat strokes and is still going strong in 2024.

(And, no, I don't pursue them. That's bad juju.) It's social conservatism, the fear of ostracism, and the fear of physical violence that forces these men into the closet. Everyone has seen way too many conservative senators and TV Evangelists getting caught with men to deny that this is true. I don't condone their actions of cheating. Some men don't have the psychological character and fortitude to be who they really are; self-hatred is a real issue. If people want this to stop, then knock off the homophobia. Okay story 1. Op seems like a horrible person. As someone who’s I now how hard it must be to come out. And I live in the north. Still it’s a terrifying thing. Op seemed like she understood how he was feeling since they lived in the south, but instead of just confronting him about the cheating, and showing compassion to a man who clearly already felt he was alone and wouldn’t be accepted, since he didn’t tell her, She bullied money and gifts out of him. And then COMPLETELY DESTROYED his life once he was reaching a point to FINALLY feel comfortable enough with himself to come out and properly break things off.
She literally made his worst nightmares as a gay person come true. What she did is literally the reason people are so afraid to come out, but she somehow the hero??? That’s just terrible.

As a bi woman - not exactly the same as a gay man but still have lived in fear with being queer.
I fully side with the wife. She was understanding of his fear and essentially turned a blind eye since the marriage was mutually beneficial. But she was still betrayed, she was cheated on. He chose to stay and repeatedly lie to her.
There are people saying "oh well she shouldn't have outed him", and the thing is, she didn't... for 10 whole years. He had a decade to decide to leave. He had a decade to get stuff sorted. It was only when he literally was trying to commit his life to a new partner and drown himself in booze did she step in. She was kinder than I would have been.
Of course there is nothing wrong with being gay/queer, but it doesn't matter who the partner is, cheating is selfish and the highest form of disrespect.
Edit: Multiple people are saying "she stayed for the money!". Yeah. And he stayed for her body, technically, for appearances. He wasn't in love with her either. Why does the woman have to do perfect things to accommodate the man who is cheating? They both stayed for non-love related benefits. They both could have left whenever -- except she wouldn't have been able to support her kids at the time. She guilt tripped him, giving him time and time again to just be goddamn honest. It really feels like you guys are victim blaming. No she didn't act like an angel, but she doesn't owe him that 🤷‍♀️

    • @ostlandr
      @ostlandr ปีที่แล้ว +8

It's the lying and sneaking around and gaslighting that would bother me, not the s*x. Be open and honest. Even if I weren't in an open marriage, I'd much rather get a call from my partner/spouse saying "Hey, I'm at the convention hotel, and Bill from Marketing and I hare hanging out, and things are getting a little hot. Can I have a hall pass?" I'd be like "LOL have fun, just don't bring anything home."
I have a long-running joke with my Lady Wife about my "approved list." That's a list of some of the most attractive (to me) women on the planet where, if the opportunity ever arose, I have a pre-approved hall pass.

@ostlandr Agreed! Well, not for me, in that I don't think I'd be able to give someone a pass personally. But if both parties are chill with it -- that's cool!
It very much seems like the wife in this story would have had no problem been a beard for the guy (I mean, she kinda already was), and they maybe could have continued their marriage as friends if he was upfront about his feelings. It was truly his disregard of her that made him a mega- a-hole.

He didn't want to leave the marriage for personal reasons, she didn't want to leave the marriage for personal reasons. She didn't have a hatred for gay people, she hated the increasing amount of bullshit he was putting her through.
Was she the kindest, most generous, most considerate angel of a soul? No. But neither would any of us if we were cheated on, lied to, and played like a fool. For a decade. And then pushed to the side as he tried to subtly replace you with another person. Frankly, he was not owed the decency of kindness after taking TEN YEARS to never change the direction of his life and how he treats the people around him. Imho.

Ruined his relationships. She did everything, methodically, patiently over all these years. She is a clear cut psychopath and her punishment does not match the crime at all. What she did was W A Y worse, given the fact she enjoyed torturing him, raping him, using his money and even went as far as to admit to being very open to non monogamy. She could, if she wanted, to solve this day one and keep an open relationship, so to her it shouldn't be a big deal at all! But she wanted to ruin him completely. She is pure scum.

The first story was wild 💀
From the pov of op I can see that she stayed with him because he provided for they’re family, was a good father and was good at doing the deed. What the husband did was terrible, wasting someone’s life to cover your own ass is a cowardly thing to do when the solution he could have took was to leave the town with the love of his life but he didn’t. She tormented him by guilt tripping him in a secretive way as her revenge for 9 years which I think it’s reasonable since the husband was still cheating but she didn’t go to far so his mental health didn’t decline. She then later says she doesn’t talk bad about h to the kids because she still wanted them to have some sort of relationship with him.
From the husbands pov he is afraid of coming out of the closet because of his homophobic home town (which I can understand since I’m bi and haven’t come out to my parents or family members) so he then married a women while cheating on her through the marriage and before. He then finds the “love of his life” who encourages him to leave op as op also hinted at but the husband refused…in the end the husband made his bed and he had to lay in it, I don’t blame op for what she did but I feel like this wouldn’t have happened if the husband just ran for the hills the moment he knew of his sexuality so he could live his happily ever after but he didn’t so…sucks to suck I guess and I’m not saying op is a saint because let’s be honest nobody in this world is but I still think she is way less of an A hole than the husband.
