He devastated me by calling me a 'losing orphan' during an argument. I left without saying a word and canceled the contract. Three months later, everything took a radical turn.

Op needs to divorce this woman. She's always going to put her family first. Notice that she didn't contact him until hearing about the house. Run dude.

OP isn't done with her family's drama yet, a lifetime of "family first" isn't going to change . An update with his bitter divorce will follow.

It’s very selfish for the family to expect to get free food and lodging for several months.

OP just needs to file for divorce. When someone shows you their true colors, believe them. She's shown that her family and her ego rank higher than OP, and there are no depths she won't go to for them.

5:05 And that would be the end of this story....His wife is out of order, and so is he for allowing it! That's their HOME and their responsibilities are to each other....Two become one, understand this and you might stay married, smh.

If the Wife ever used those words to him again; OP should leave and be done.... that was her ONE

Nope. She should've communicated as soon as possible. After the filth she said, OP has no obligation to tell her he wants to leave. She's lucky OP is forgiving. If he wasn't, then OP has the right to do so.
The in-laws have a toxic idea of family.

What does OP have to apologize for?
She burned the bridge, she fixes the bridge.
And this isn’t about the lease, this is her weaponizing OP’s biggest trauma.
And keeping the house isn’t a big deal if they reconcile - OP can still contribute. But, it does mean if she pulls that BS again, he can leave free and clear. She may not think that’s fair, but she’s the cause of all the problems.
And she really regretted what she said…just not enough to apologize.
And the parents clearly want the opportunity to nag them about babies that moving in would provide.
and OP knows that kind of person she is? Yeah, one who will weaponized trauma when she gets mad.

Unfortunately there are Asian cultures that have this family dynamic. It is a very deeply ingrained life style and she will always choose them over you.
Can you really believe her when she says that she told them only the parents could stay before the change in the lease?

Sounds like an after the fact excuse to me.
Along the same lines as “I didn’t forget our anniversary, I was planning a surprise for you.”
