Grew up in a body shop. My dad was an old school body man. Did it with a torch and a wet rag. Didn't have shrinking discs. I'd run the torch and he would tell me where and how much. He also did the finishing with lead. Bondo was not available at the time. It's great to see someone use a lot of the old school techniques. You're not a hack, just some one that learns by experience. Thanks for the great video.
How lucky are we? We get to kick back listen to music, watch a master body tech and artist all at the same time!!! You sir are an asset to you tube!!! Not many channels can do what you do. And with that said, I thank you for sharing and teaching people!!! Be safe Kyle!!
Retired Ontario shop teacher here. I admire your patience and competency in the "black art" of metalwork, but when you started running around imitating metal molecules, you earned my Sub. I always found physical comedy to be a terrific supplement to the concept or technique being taught, and the kids never forget it. Well done! Looking forward to more good training videos so I can muster up the courage to tackle a similar project.
Well I did enjoy that.! The scientific explanation of "quenching v non quenching" left me thirsty, so I discovered, quenching my thirst with beer works really well. Thanks again Kyle
I tell ya this show has everything. Body work, a science lesson better than any classroom, a floor show, and a bit of stand up, and special effects. Doesn't get any better.
You, sir, have the patience of Job, and have convinced me to slow down and avoid the cost of bondo. Also, I seem to agree with you how appealing it is that one not throw up after looking at your work.
"I could spend the rest of my life chasing highs and lows on this roof and still not be happy with it..." You said a mouthful there, brother. Words to live by.
yea Kyle is amazing at this stuff. I would work on it for about an hour and be like OK.....FILLER TIME.....But I love his theory filler is expensive in Canada.
I have to say that explanation of heating and quenching on a molecular level really got my interest! I never really understood molecules until you explained it that way. In fact, I have to admit I had a lot of trouble believing in molecules at all. After actually seeing it for the first time, I feel like some kind of thermonuclear engineer on steroids. I'm ready to tackle a project in the near future! During your explanation of panel tasting, I came to think that there should be some way to get your cats involved. Like maybe a cat scan or something. If you had one of them Labrador Retriever dogs, you could have it do some lab work along with the cat scans and really analyze the metallurgical tendencies of the finished or refinished product. Anyways, thanks again for a wonderful video full of inspirational advice and demonstrations.
GGOD TO SEE A VIDEO PUT ON THE INTERNET WITH ALL ITS FAULTS AND FIXES AND NOT FULL OF CRAP KEEP IT UP GOOD WORK NOT ONLY ON THE TRUCK BUT ON THE VIDEO ASWELL 👍👍
Now, if we could find a sweet old, say, Pontiac. You could like, slice it up and do that voodoo that you doooo and with your magically skills like, it'll be epic!!! Hahaha! Safety first and this build just gets better and better. Seriously though, the explanation of shrinking and stretching using the Disc of Algernon was excellent. Stellar video and Kyle, you're a rock star! Peace out!
I have never seen such a demonstration of the kinetic theory of matter like yours. I think Daniel Bernouli, John Herapath and John James Waterston would all be impressed. Cheers! 😎👍🐔🐓🛻🏁🏁
I was a bit concerned when you showed the valleys in the roof, but you pulled it off. I was disappointed that there wasn't an update on the battle for the blue chair. It seemed rather intense last week.
You certainly showed the molecules who the boss was and made the valley of shame disappear. Good that it passed the oil can test in case the cats decide to walk across the roof for final inspection.
You make it look easy, love the content and humour, I did laugh out loud during the welding as I have had this happen to.me, but the way you got it back into shape shows you are a master craftsman 👍
Hey Kyle you must be pretty good at this bodywork thing cause you did a good job of messing that roof up. I had a good friend who was a body man instructor that would say a good body tech can make a job look good, but an exceptional body tech can make a mistake and be able to fix it and nobody else would never know. You are that body tech. Love your videos and the human acting of what the reaction is that is classic comedy gold and give the cats extra head rubs for their contribution in the videos. Later
I do take inspiration from you and your channel ! During the welding and the “pop” while welding OMG the outcome would have completely discouraged me ! It’s totally awesome to have you go through the “rough in” and see there’s a way to proceed. You get ALL the thumbs up 👍 👍👍👍
I came for the valleys of shame and stayed for the safety moment and molecular physics. Great work as always Kyle. I appreciate you going above and beyond to show your process and the results always speak for themselves.
your metallurgy demonstration was priceless... if only your bondo sponsorship was as successful as those other channels you could spend more time with your cats
So I've spent that last few days binge watching most of your videos again, really enjoying it, I'm a little surprised that you start off this video saying destroyed, and telling me if I'm watching it then you fixed it.. lol.. makes me wonder what you would have done if you couldn't fix it? Thanks again Kyle for such entertaining content, and an awesome scientific explanation of metal molecules in action.
Ya, I can now look at it and not throw up too.... all kidding aside, that was amazing. I thought I was a hack before I watched this now I feel like I do sheet metal work with a chainsaw and a sledgehammer.... just plain amazing, keep up the good work and honing your skills!
Best show on TH-cam… (tip to get your camera to pick up the sunk areas better: light from the side, not from the top. This way dents show as shadow and high points are lit.)
First, thank you for the demo/explanation of molecules reacting to heat. It really was instructive. I'm enjoying wathcing the chicken truck come together. I appreciate your artisan approach to the problems. Cheers!
Well Kyle I have been working on a 22 gauge Rabbit Pickup Tailgate. OMG with the lettering on it and thin metal. It was really challenging . Uploading it probably tomorrow.
@@CarterAutoRestyling just filling it now I think I am going to take it to paint before I release it. Less than 1/8 filler. I think I mentioned your channel in the video. I dont remember until I edit it .
Well, that was entertaining to watch and listen to. Nice taste in music. I could see the roof moving in to shape during the high speed banging and pleneshing. That roof came out fantastic. It looks great. Thanks for the tips and lesson on metal shaping. I'm looking forward to seeing the next video. Cheers!
I gotta hand it to you Kyle: metal bumping with Professor Julian Sumner-Miller's science and physics thrown in. Love your explanation on shrinking and even 75 yr old me, could grasp the concept. Happy hammering, cobber!
Just like sewing clothing, sewing up the seams wrinkles the garment and steam ironing is required to straighten everything out in the end. A very nice job.
This old metal is crazy to weld. I have never seen new metal move as much. Mother tucker! Have one myself. Karl is an excellent instructor. Good job, that work isnt easy. Im planning to stretch a cab, should look a lot worse than this. Hope i csn get it remotely close.

Hi Kyle. Outstanding work. Thank you for all the great tips and the Laugh's. Much needed in this day and age. As always I liked and shared and hope other will do the same. All my very best ,give the Cats a pat for me.
The color differentiation is very consistent along that welld, which means you’re doing an excellent job! But don’t get a big head, lol, mine would be really sporadic!
You missed your calling as a grade school science teacher.🤣 Sadly, there are many out there that still won't get it. I imagine the ancient people who discovered metal. Metal is an interesting thing. I have every faith in your ability. Cheers!

Looks great! I am enjoying watching someone do something I could never do myself. Still enjoying the sarcasm. Best safety segment on the internet to date.
Nice stuff Kyle! I wish I had your patience. I get frustrated to the point I don't want to finish what I've started. Videos like this give me confidence to get back at my mess, thanks buddy!
It would have been nice to have your expertise available 3 years ago. When I cut out the rear quarter panel of my Van that was crunched in and repaired it with another quarter panel. Weld it in with the tack and let it cool method. No Oil Canning, but shrunken weld was hard to work by myself. No help & couldn' treach back side of weld. Used very little plastic filler (your fav). It's been prim & painted 2 years ago & looks great.
I hope that oversized chicken appreciates all of this work you are doing on this truck. Those welds did look like a warp disaster. Learned a bit about the shrinking disc this time. I like the music overlay to sped-up bodywork!
