It almost turned out similar to Roku and Sozin though, In the comics when trying to bring peace to the nations Aang almost considered killing Zuko cause Zuko made him promise to do so cause Zuko was thinking more about his nation above all others and nearly went to war again.

There were families in the earth nation colonies that mixed firebenders and earthbenders, and firebenders that considered themselves earth kingdom didn't want their families split apart. He wanted to keep families together and protect those bonds, Aang eventually understood this and sided with him because if he didn't then he would be hypocritical for loving Katara, he also had to talk to the earth king about this but the king was being more stubborn about it which made it a bigger problem for a potential war..
Can we just talk about how Ozai basically abused his children only to end up being BEATEAN and defeated by children?

Katara can always "normal" heal, but the spirit water let her straight up bring someone back from the dead.

And that’s the only reason Aang was able to take away Ozai’s bending, it’s because he refused to kill him under any circumstances. He refused to let go of his spirit which was unbendable. Any other Avatar wouldn’t have been able to do what Aang did.

Indeed, and that's what makes the show so amazing. Any other writers, any other show, and either Aang would have given in and killed him, or he would have killed himself, or an accident, or someone else would have interviened. SOMETHING would have happened, where Ozi would have died.
But no, this show stuck to it's gun, to it's message, to the spirit of this world and character. Aang, went against all odds, all doubts, against friends, enemies, and the greatest wises more ancient of spirits and said "No, I will NOT take a life!" and followed through with that conviction.
Truly one of the best TV shows to ever created, in any form of media, and something we should be showing to all children as they grow up to be inspired by the morals and messages from this show.
Avatar the last airbender is, and will always be, one of the best television shows ever put to screen, saludos :D

Katara and Zuko were able to overcome her because of her mental state. That's the whole point of Azula's character. She was her own downfall.

Aang grew up and matured and became responsible, reliable, secure, and stable. that's why Katara stopped seeing him as younger brother and started seeing him as a man and fell for him
aang is still kinda childish, but he DEFINITELY matured a whole lot from the beginning of the show.
Katara unfreezing herself is actually a waterbending version of Zuko's Breath of Fire, which he used in the season 1 finale.

@@missmars6390 yeah! throughout the series we’ve seen multiple instances of benders from one element using movements from another element, the most obvious being Iroh’s lightning redirection. zuko has used waterbending-like movements when firebending, katara has used a few that resembles the way airbending and earthbending work. it’s so cool, man.
Zuko didn't need the spirit Water because he redirected most of the lightning Azula shot at him. He was badly hurt but still hanging on. Aang was dead dead which is why he needed the water.
Also Azula shot aang while he was in the avatar state (while he was most vulnerable). And he didn’t know how to redirect lightning yet. Zuko was still able to somewhat redirect it
Fun fact: You can also see Iroh's growth in every time he goes to Basing Se. The first time he went he tried to take over Basing Se for the fire nation, the he second time he went as a refugee and the third time he took it back from the fire nation to set it free.
And the fourth time he was there he built his successful teashop,living his best life,with his nephew-the new fire lord,the avatar and the gaang by his side...everyone finally at peace

Aang was able to remove ozais bending because Aangs spirit was unbendable as the lion turtle said and thats because Aang did not listen to everyone who wanted him to kill ozai and instead came up with his own path and therefore his soul was pure, good and unbendable.

So, that one scene was their souls turning inside out. Ozai’s spirit is so evil it almost destroyed Aang, but his determination to stick to his moral code was stronger. That’s why energybending is so dangerous, and he uses it only on rare occasions.
Aang used the avatar state to override ozais spirit, you can even see his eyes and tattoos glow right before ozai falls back.

Plus we see he did it when he took yakones bending as well, can’t get your spirit/bended when 100s of your past lives are backing you up
read the books! in “The Search” it dives a little deeper into Azula’s whereabouts after the show and also Zuko’s mother’s whereabouts
What I love about the comics is that it's so true to the canon that you can hear the actors voices as you read it. It was awesome.
I hope they animate it now that they have that blank check from Viacom/Nickelodeon.

If Katara didnt end up beating Azula and Zuko did it instead, she kinda wouldn't have had a role in the finale which would be quite sad and uncharacteristic.
Yep that's what I think.
I also think that it fits Zuko’s arc as well, learning to trust, to ask for help, to lean on others when you can’t go on. They saved each other because they trusted in themselves and each other, which is huge for Zuko
I always felt some sympathy for Azula because she was just as young as the others too, she was 14 when she was first introduced and I think she only got to 15. It's like she never had a chance to grow outside of the influence of Ozai, he fostered all his horrible ideals in her so young, she really knew nothing else :/
She's a great villain but sometimes I wonder what it would have been like if she had gotten the guidance and chance to change that Zuko was given
Also I totally forgot but y'all seemed really hyped about Avatar Kyoshi when she was on screen, and they actually did a comic book for her!! I've heard it's noticeably more brutal with a bit more violence/action in a real good way and the writing is amazing!!
Tbh, I think Azula's biggest abuser was her own mind. She had multiple psychological issues that were just further exacerbated by Ozai's teachings. Ever since she was a child Azula was selfish, disturbed, and insane. Even if Iroh had been raised, I honestly don't think her character as a human being would've been different.

Interesting fact: Ozai’s voice actor is Mark Hamill, the actor for Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars movies. He also did an amazing job as the Joker in the Batman Arkham games

I commented this on the last video, but I'm still liking and commenting on this to bring it to their attention!
since aang refused to take a life and stuck to his beliefs and way of life and didn’t give into the pressure of everyone telling him to kill the firelord, his energy and spirit was ultimately unbendable because he stayed true to himself. in a time where everyone believed there was only one thing to do (kill ozai) aang found another way to bring peace and end the war.
the continuation of ATLA is written as comics! the first part is called „The Promise“, (I think) it begins with Aang's and Katara's kiss
Ozai will have to face the worst punishment possible. He's a man who valued strength and power above all else. Now he's been robbed of his power, imprisoned, and is forced to watch as all his hard work and the work of his family is undone by his own son. He had the whole world in the palm of his hand. Now he has nothing.

There are only two rightful punishments for Ozai: Kill him, or take his power away. The second, in some ways, is worse than death to him, a man who worships only force and power. So anyone thinking that Ozai got off lightly, he'd disagree with you. Yes, this does give him a slight chance at gaining wisdom or becoming a better man (or appreciating his children though he damaged them both)in his prison cell, but honestly given the type of person he is, such a happier ending for him is unlikely.
Such an amazing show. The worst part of watching it is getting to the end with no more episodes to watch.

Zuko learned from Iroh. Katara watched Zuko train Aang. Katara knew about this. She deliberately made Azula unable to breathe. That was some really good thinking!!
Being frozen shouldn't have prevented Azula from just exhaling fire and radiating heat around her body. It was established in Season 1 that master firebenders can radiate heat. Especially considering that Azula was super-charged by the comet. IMO the writers did Zuko dirty there, he should've been the one to defeat Azula with Katara's help. Instead Katara single handedly defeats a comet-powered Azula on her own.
@@xuvial1391 Debatable, because Iroh taught Zuko specific firebending techniques he invented himself - by studying the waterbenders, no less. Zuko can do that thing with his breath to keep himself warm, and since the cooler was a thing in the Boiling Rock, I doubt it's a common teqnique.
Azula simply wasn't trained in firebending without free access to air, because she did not go through the same training as Zuko. Perhaps she could have figured it out, but - for one, she didn't get a warning, and probably didn't get to take a deep breath. Not to mention Katara acted fast, withing a couple of seconds.
Overall, I think Azula was simply too stunned and out of her mind to figure out how to counter-attack such a thing as being completely incased in ice.
The lights at the end are for the viewer to visualize the inner struggle between aang and ozai. Only the blue beam that pierced the clouds was visible to other characters.
zuko taking the lightening to protect katara shows his growth and development a lot, so i dont mind he doesnt finish the fight with azula
your names are so fitting for your personalities, giving a name is both a blessing and a mission to someone; i'm glad for the opportunity of seeing you here.
I love how many levels of meaning the final battle between ozai and aang carries. Aang needed an unbendable spirit and he HAS that! His commitment to the ways of his people, to peace, to justice, to caring are what allowed him to pull off the energy bending move! If he had compromised on that, if he had really considered killing as an option, I don't think he could have done it. Also, the fact that he represents the Air Nomads way of life, not just literally as the last one, but visually, the red consumes him down to one last pinprick of himself, and that's enough to come.back and overwhelm the firelord. It's such a parallel to the overarching story.
To me, this scene felt like the thematic final victory for not just Aang, but for ALL the airbenders.
I also think there's something so sweet about that last water bending move he does to put out the fires, being the very first move Katara taught him back in season one :')
Your answers are in the comic series!! Hopefully the new Avatar Studios will animate the comics as well. They'd make some very great episodes, albeit the seasons might be on the shorter side.
Azula was my favorite character. Mainly because she was the first villain that scared me, and I felt fear for the protagonists when she was around.
When she shot Aang with lighting when he was powering up it blew my effing mind, it was such a cliche killer that at the time I couldn't even comprehend that it was even a possibility to interrupt character power ups. I just knew when ever she appeared, I was engaged and praying for team Avatar as if I were their with them. A character that can make you feel like that is just amazing. Plus her blue fire and cunning mind was dope. She was all around dangerous.
Azul had so much potential if her father didn’t use her as his own personal weapon. Imagine if she was good and learned to firebrand from the dragons like Iroh and zuko. She could’ve been great!

I’m just saying that if Azula was sane, she would have beaten them both and it would have ended up like the of the black sun. In the finale, she was literally hallucinating, was sleep deprived and paranoid. She is also the one to took down ba sing se, so she is also smart enough.

@@usmanqureshi8941 he was still in the defense most of the time even sokka. She wasn’t really fazed at all. And the comics just proofs my point that she is still levels above him. He just gained a deeper understanding of his element but Azula still has technique. It’s like Iroh and Ozai. Ozai is confirmed to be the most powerful even tho Iroh has a deeper connection than Ozai. So I think it’s very possible for her to win if she was sane. She never had a problem fighting multiple people at once (chase, boiling rock, even in the comics).

@@uselessundead9118 katara had the environmental advantage, so that fight wasn’t even fair to begin with. Also Katara still needed Aang’s support at the beginning cuz she was evaporating all of her attacks. She only got the upper-hand afterwards, which doesn’t mean she won. Even if zuko didn’t interfere, katara would just smash her to the ground but she was only hardly a foot in the air and that doesn’t take her out cuz she survived the drill without a scratch. Not to mention she underestimated her, which u can tell by the way she fought Katara and how she fought Aang. So she wouldn’t do the same mistake twice. At the end she still got defeated despite having the environmental advantage. I mean Azula could handle them in the chase pretty well and left unharmed. Also she out maneuvered Aang and Toph at the day of the black sun. Azula got jumped many times but still can hold her own or defeat them. If she was sane at the finale, she would able to beat them.
True, Katara was an odd choice, because without that much convinient water and Azula losing her mind, would she have been possible even getting in Zuko's way during Sozin's comet.
The avatar comic books delve into a lot of the questions you have. They’re free online and quite short and enjoyable reads. “The Search” gives answers on Azula’s whereabouts and finally answers the question of what happened to Zuko’s mother. The rest are all 100% worth checking out as well. The characters start to look slightly older and the art style matches the show impeccably.

There are planets with such a strong g force that have compressed water to solid.
When Aang got into Avatar state, it wasnt Aang controlling his body anymore, it was all previous Avatars combined. Thats why he was about to kill Ozai (similar to Aang at the north pole when the water spirit took over his Avatar state).
Btw Ozai's voice actor is Mark Hamill, mostly known as Luke Skywalker from Star Wars.
Another funny fact, when Katara frooze Azula...if it was Zuko instead of Azula, he probably could have unfreeze himself with his fire breath technique.
The story about Azula and the mother of her and Zuko is written in comics, you should read them. After Atla the authors thought it would be "easier" to make comics instead of a new serie. Mostly because they thought it would get more recognized than a new serie in the shadows of Atla
The reason why Azula couldn't unfreeze herself was explicitly that she couldn't breath, no firebender would get out of that.

My top 3 characters are Sokka, Zuko and Azula. Zuko has a great redemption arc, is a multilayered character with interesting character traits and is the greatest addition to the show. Sokka has an incredible development during the show's timespan as well, improving mentally and combatively. He also is the funniest character. Azula simply because she is the most beautiful, smartest, perfect girl in the world. Seriously, her character starts flawless and she proves her greatness with the infiltration of Ba Sing Se and her successful coup d'état of the Earth Kingdom throne. After that she stays at this level until the invasion, but we slowly learn more about her emotions and actual feelings (caring for Zuko during S3E2 and S3E5). Her downfall and complex psychic problems are fascinating to observe and obviously her fights against Zuko belong to the best of the entire show, thereby caring huge emotional weight.
Also the voice actor of Ozai is Mark Hamill (alias Luke Skywalker).

i don’t know if you guys caught it but the music in zuko & azula’s fight scene is actually really somber & sad.
the creators didn’t want two siblings trying to killing each other to be celebrated; the same way it wasn’t right for iroh to be the one to defeat firelord ozai.
so they made it a tragic moment, and katara, the last southern waterbender, defeating azula, the fire princess named after azulon, who killed all the southern waterbenders, was a moment of triumph, not just for her but for her tribe.
You guys kept talking about how good Ozai’s voice actor is, it’s Mark Hamill. Aang had to defeat Luke Skywalker!
So the thing with this episode was the way that it ended, they actually did want to do a 4th season centered around finding Zuko’s mom as well as another arc with Azula. Unfortunately, (as things go) they ran out of funding before they could get produced. Hence the “Where is my mother?” segue from Zuko. Definitely check out the comics as they kinda cover what the future was going to be

Katara was able to heal Zuko because he was able to partially redirect the lightning so it didn’t all hit him. If you look back to the previous episode you can see it
I think it's important to note, It is said so nonchalantly but when Aang is facing Ozai his Will has to be stronger than Ozai's Will to dominate the planet, he cannot waver one bit & there can't be any doubt in his mind or he will be corrupted that proves how strong Aang is in his principles and morals

The ending was a little cliche but I think the biggest reason is becase Avatar is still a children's cartoon in essence. Probably the most cliched genre of television but Avatar still keeps you guessing until the end
I rather cliche handled well rather than new handled poorly. Things become cliche cause they tend to work, I think the ending was a good go between Breaking the mold and ultimately ending Aang's arc by killing Ozai which would betray his character and keeping it safe by defeating Ozai and locking him up which would have be unsatifactory for viewers. Lastly the whole children's cartoon line doesn't do the story that covers genocide, war mongering states, shadow governements, orphans, PTSD, corruption, slave labor, and a slew of other adult themes over the course of 60 episodes.
It wasnt that cliche. We all knew aang would win the battle since season 1. No way there were 3 seasons building up to a fight that the protagonist doesnt even win. And it had somewone who thought he had one destiny changed his way and shaped his own destiny where his future and dream came treu but just way different. It also had a cute ending where the gang is together at irohs teashop and then aang kisses with katara, a kiss that was building up since season 1
It is not quiet right! Killing Ozai would have been an act of grace towards him and would have completely destroyed Aang's character, it was not for nothing that we got to know Aang and his worldview for 3 seasons. Taking everything from Ozai was the best way to show him how wrong he is with everything he has done so far. It is meant to show us that there are more options than killing, because killing is easy, hard is not to be done.
As for the unanswered questions like what happened to Zukos mom and Azula their are multiple comics showing the gangs adventures after the end of the show so you guys might have to read those.

Ozai only further exacerbated her sickness, but he didn't create or instill it. Honestly, even if Iroh had raised her, I don't think she would've turned out any different, she would've still been a psychopathic sadist.

This scene with azula crying fucking broke my heart likes she’s just a child she just needed the right guidance and she never got that plus the voice actor apparently was actually crying and has rough time watching that scene cause she was thinking of everything that’s happened to her and just let it all out

I agree fully. Azula literally needed to lose no matter what so katara had plot armor cuz she suddenly trips and a chain is conveniently placed there. If she was sane, she would have beaten them and it would have ended up like the day of the black sun.
Yes, the VA said she had to reach into a dark place to get the acting she got in these last two eps, apparently (idk if its still true) but she couldnt watch the episodes or hear her voice like that.

If Toph had joined Aang to fight the firelord, I don't think she would've been able to keep up. Most of their fight was done in the air and they were constantly moving.
Ozai had never gone through anything that made him consider other people or consider other nations but himself. Ozai’s crossroads was one of darkness as he exploited Iroh’s sorrow and later reaped the price, he lost the power and his firebending he so cherished, and his precious kingdom. Having his bending taken away is a fate worse than death for him. His perfect Azula crumbles under the expectations. His son Zuko who had never been good enough is triumphant.
*I can feel a lot of energy twisted up around there.* The twisted up energy around the scar is preventing the complete flow of energy through his body: and probably because he was about to master the Avatar state. Chi-blocking is a way to block the flow of chi, so the idea of something physical having an impact on the flow of energy is probable.
Zuko said that Ozai considered Azula was born lucky, while Zuko was lucky to be born. While Ozai meant it as a put down for Zuko; the reality is that is Zuko’s greatest strength and Azula’s greatest weakness. As a result of Zuko’s suffering, he had learned how to deal with failure: he picks himself up and keeps on going, no matter how many times he has to do so. Azula’s a prodigy, she was consistently outperforming Zuko, and earning the praise of Ozai. But as soon as things went wrong for her, she has no idea how to deal with it emotionally, and she completely falls apart. In the end, it is Zuko’s fortitude and Azula’s lack thereof are what put Zuko on the throne and left Azula a sobbing wreck. I have never felt really bad for Azula or even cried for her.
Zuko’s own journey started with a lost Agni Kai, and ended up with him questioning everything he’s been taught and finding his own path after fighting with his own instincts. Azula had to learn the same hard lessons, confront her own demons, but there is a chance she’d come out of it better, like Zuko did. Is Azula willing enough to put in the time and effort though? I just love the fact that Fire Lord Zuko is still humble to serve tea all of his family and friends. I just love that little moment with him serving tea to Iroh.
Once Ty Lee takes the makeup and armor off, she’s going to look different from the Kyoshi Warriors. Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors know chi-blocking now and they are better fighters against benders. Ty Lee has access to their weapons and one thing against Ty Lee as a fighter is, she’s more effective with fighters that doesn’t know that she is a chi-blocker, like Sokka and Suki for example.

My top 3 are Uncle - because he is the goat come on cuh, Zuko - because of his redemption arc and Azula because she was a very interesting villain to me with how she was so perfect and then after getting betrayed by people she trusted she started breaking down mentally which made Zuko be able to beat her even though she was a prodigy!

i think the ending really showed tophs subtle arc, she starts out as a tough girl who doesn’t take orders and says she doesn’t need help from anyone, but at the end she’s someone who will allow herself to work as a team and trust people enough to ask help for them(sokka holding on to her). and the fight between azula and zuko w katara shows the fight between two different ways of people being raised nature vs nurture. a fight against a character who’s whole life is defined by her success against her brother and praise from her father and zuko has been figuring out his own life and the healthier way of taking care of yourself and others
Its been one hell of a ride guys! I watched every single episode. Glad y'all enjoyed the show. I will be here for Korra even though it doesn't hit the same. But yeah my favorite 3 characters are Zuko, Iroh, and Azula. Love y'all and I know this channel will experience many successes!

i feel like its totally toph's role and personality to be the backseat muscle of the group. She's so badass that she doesn't even need any attention, she knows she could clap anyone, and thats good enough for her. Its actually a huge part of tophs character that she is insanely good at earthbending, but always practices restraint, because earthbending is an extension of her life, and not just a fighting style. shes the type of character who ensures that the group never loses a fight, but never needs to take credit, because her real job is to teach aang, not to win fights. even in the final moments fighting ozai, you can see aang use tophs earhtbending sense technique to pin ozai down so he could energybend him

His mom helped kill the previous fire lord to save zuko. She was banished, she went back to her home village and married the man she actually liked and they have a daughter (yes zuko n azula have another sibling)
Also to make sure the fire lord didnt come for her and kill her (and also to forget the pain of leaving her kids) she spoke to a spirit n changed her face n sealed her memories away.
Azula was brought on that mission and later escaped.
After mom got her face n memories back, Zuko brought his mom, sister n father in law to live in the palace with him.

If you think about it, Azula's defeat was perfect. Tbh, I'm not sure zuko could've even beat her, she's just too physically skilled.
Azula, from when she was a child, controlled everything and everyone around. She was obsessed with control and manipulation. Katara found a way to finally take that power away from her and made her completely helpless. So it's kind of fitting and tragic in a way that she broke down; she lost all the control she ever had. And by a measly person from the water tribe at that.
So yeah, Zuko beating Azula would've been cool, it just was never in the cards, and honestly, they needed to give Katara something to do 😂.

I think that's what caused her breakdown. It wasn't just Zuko beating her - she could've handled losing to Zuko in the way _she_ wins things. Hell, she _already_ lost to Zuko at the air temple, didn't feel any type of way about it. But here Zuko beat her in a battle that she's learning she can't even fight. She couldn't handle that.

Azula, though she couldn't successfully kill Zuko and the Gaang and had seen firsthand that Zuko had improved to the point where he could be a match for her, still didn't take a convincing loss. She was always able to bounce back and keep strategizing. At this point, she has nothing left, no allies, no master plans to set in motion, and Zuko is taking everything she has and putting her on the ropes almost with ease. When even a Water Tribe "peasant" managed to take her down even when she tried the last resort of outright treachery, it
was the final straw for her already fragile mental state.

@@chrisk.6684 I feel that Zuko, even then, lost because he was holding back and trying to restrain her. The only time she actually won was by learning his lightning redirection and surprising him. If I were to rank them in terms of general fire bending ability, I'd actually place Zuko slightly higher. When Azula uses fire jets, the most she can do is change the direction in which she falls or give herself a smaller boost. At the Boiling Rock, for instance, she couldn't just fly straight to Zuko, Sokka, and their crew. She had to jump to the wires, attach herself, then use her jets to slide forward. Zuko can actually fly out of a deep canyon, not just get himself closer to a ledge, and do so while carrying a grown man in his arms. Azula bends blue flames, but Zuko easily cools them down to nothing when he touches them, and later bends several colors simultaneously. Azula bends off rage and is helpless without it, but he bends off determination to do the right thing and it's more effortless for him. Azula is the only one who generates lightning, but she's probably the only one out of the two of them who would be willing to strike first with such a lethal move. The only thing preventing Zuko was his mental turmoil and unsureness in what he was doing. Since that issue is resolved, there's nothing preventing him from doing it other than his own self-restraint when he already mastered the form in "Bitter Work."
