    I have a theory on how the next Avatar could reconnect to the Past Avatars. Here is how my theory goes: In theory certain personal items (Aang's Staff, Roku's Crown, Kyoshi's Fans, etc.) could hold fragments of a person spirit or essence. If the next Avatar meditates with these items and detects the fragments; he/she could re-absorb the fragments which could begin the reconnection process. However, this would mean the Avatar would need to find the item first and go one by one. Likely in reverse Avatar Cycle order (Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, Yangchen, Kuruk, etc.). The Avatar after that would have to reconnect to the following Avatars; rinse and repeat.

    • @goosetoes98
      @goosetoes98 ปีที่แล้ว +108

      I've had a similar theory for a while. Ravva may have held a connection to the past Avatars but I don't think the past Avatars are reliant on Ravva to hang around. In the comic suki alone, kyoshi appears to suki to tell her that she would be rescued soon while she's imprisoned at the boiling rock. To me this proves that the spirits of the past Avatars are independent from the spirit of Ravva and the current avatar, and can act independently, as Aang/Ravva had no clue where suki was or that sokka was coming to rescue her. I feel that Aang appearing to tenzin in the fog of lost souls and Roku appearing to Aang before he mastered the avatar state supports this also. My theory was that they would have to go to very specific holy sites where the past Avatar liked to hang around(places like roku's temple). It was said at some point that kuruk roamed the spirit realm to hunt down koh the face stealer, so maybe he'd be the easiest to find? But I think i like the idea of personal items or relics better

    I know that some people don't like sci-fi or advanced technology in a fantasy setting. But I find sci-fi fantasies to be fascinating, specially when they manage to organically merge advanced technology with magic. There are so many exciting possibilities for me, I was always hoping that the Avatar franchise would someday tackle a future Avatar (hell, I would love to see Avatar in space too, I'm curious to imagine if there is alien life in the Avatarverse, and how bending behaves outside on Earth, and on different planets). Also, I'm always happy for artists doing what they want and are passionate about. If Mike and Bryan are excited about exploring advanced technology with bending, I'm happy they will do it, and I also find it such a cool scenario.
    But if your taste is definitely not interested in a sci-fi fantasy, you guys need to keep in mind that past Avatars won't be ignored in the future of the franchise. We already have two Kyoshi novels, one Yangchen novel, and another one focusing on Yangchen is also schedule to come out.
    Another thing: when Avatar Studios was announced, Mike and Bryan told us they planned to tell stories in many different eras. Why would the future not be an acceptable option for one of these eras?
    Last, but not least, I don’t mind the mechas in LOK much. And to be honest, I really have my doubts if they really are more "over-the-top" than the drill from ATLA. Both are insane and unrealistic for our real world. But Avatar is a fantasy.

    • @BabyLionTurtle
      @BabyLionTurtle  ปีที่แล้ว +59

      Great points! Avatar actually started as a sci-fi concept (the first version of Momo was a cute robot) so it's obvious that Bryke has always been inspired by those ideas.
      As for the mechas, I think what actually bothered me more than the final boss were the smaller suits used throughout the series. Not because of the tech but because of the _rough_ CGI implementation. But that will hopefully be fixed now with better software and higher budgets!

    I’m hoping the worlds look different, it was cool to see the evolution of bending in a more modern society in TLOK, I’m curious how bending will change as society and technology does as well. For instance, Mako’s style of fire bending is almost like boxing, and he’s able to produce lighting without “winding up” like Azula. I’m guessing Pro Bending molded his style. I like the idea as time passes different styles of bending begin to emerge. I like Kuviras method of bending her metal armor as projectiles. Stuff like that.
    Who knows with the level of technological expansion, bending may not share the same place in society and it used to.

    I really wonder what they would do to incorporate modern day technology with not only bending powers but also the introduction to a more spiritually open world that Korra had opened up. It might not even be necessarily sci-fi but more like a fantasy alternate reality. Who knew the mere introduction of the fire nation being in the industrial revolution during ATLA would make the next few avatar series be so different from each other.
    But one thing I do want to happen for the next series is to do away with the america-centric representation of Korra and for the series to reflect back on its Asian/Indigenous roots. Imagine if the fire nation echoed modern day Japan with being the electronic media center of the world, or the Earth Kingdom to reflect on modern day Saudi Arabia as a pioneer in metallic and earth architecture. What if they made it so that the four nations were more like continents but countries started to form to split up as their own government? We kinda see this already in Korra and so why not other economically stable areas try to do the same... So many directions they can possibly take the other nations in.

    I have to admit I'm pretty anxious about the whole modern-era theme. I liked Legend of Korra, but the mech stuff did feel slightly off, so imagine what even more advanced technology would feel like. Given that LoK was mostly based on the 1920's, they could at least have this series take place around the 90's - early 2000s. I definitely will like to see the problem of evolution vs tradition - Legend of Korra already gave us a glimpse of how an advancing modern world cares about the Avatar and traditions less and less, which does reflect on our real world's evolution and how it has affected religion and spirituality as a whole. So basically, I wouldn't mind a more modern avatar. An early 2000s one would definitely feel nostalgic, for me at least. Just don't go full on sci-fi like some people are suggesting.

They could only bend one or two elements and will be looking for the Lionturtles, because Unalaq was a water bender when he murged with Vaatu. But that will make the "dark' avatar an air bender master; totally in contrast with the young native earth bending avatar. Maybe reconnecting with past lives like Aang will give him/her the egde/ skills they need to defeat the bbg. Sandbending like Genji would be really awesome, unique and the way they should do it. If Legend of Genji won’t be canon there are three things I hope Avatar Studios takes from it:
    1. The next Avatar should be a Sandbender. It fits thematically and judging from Genji’s popularity among fans it’s what they want.
    2. The setting should be in based on the 60s/70s era, mostly because I don’t think people are ready for a fully modern Avatar world yet and the Cold War era seems just right for now. Unfortunately this also means that Korra will have died relatively young.
    3. What really drew me to the story of Genji was the conspiracy involving a false Avatar. Typically the thought of this young man who is adored by the entire Earth Kingdom as the Avatar being an unknowing imposter, while another young man who is seen as an outcast by those around him and lives in poverty suddenly discovering he is in fact the true Avatar. So yeah I think that would be a good starting point with mystery, some political intrigue, and an eventual redemption arc for the fake Avatar.
    4. Another reason a Sandbender Avatar would be interesting, that I just realized, would be the mastering of the elements. I mean it’s been confirmed that Sandbending is more similar to Airbending and Waterbending, so it stands to reason that he would be natural good at both. But what if the element he struggles with is in fact normal Earthbending, as it’s fundamentally different from the Sandbending he has used his whole life. Which would very possibly make a Sandbending Avatar the first Avatar to struggle with what is technically his native element.

    for an earth bender, i would hope for a form of stubbornness from staying away from the avatar name after learning how much effect the title brings, but korra was a rather stubborn character on her own. maybe this time around its instead that this earth avatar doesnt know he is the avatar and piecing it together himself while on the run from what he supposes to be a threat but is actually just what vague connections to the shattered avatar state he has, or what few people may know. he could be crafting his own views and maybe acting on his own justice system outside the avatar name, giving some merit to the later korra villians after such a shakey reception from the avatar herself on if nobels and royalty have the right to abuse power.
    a vigilantly avatar who didnt know his value would be quite a stir up for the world, his own upbringing facing him to the horrors of the world pushing him out leading to plenty of self reflecting and brewing on ideals. an avatar with a villians upbringing and a heros heart. thats what i want after seeing korra being treated as a political chairman of the world, i want someone who was shunned before their name was changed to avatar, but the name is inseparable, the one who was shunned can never be pushed any further now, and all must hear what the avatar has faced as a common person before their title.

    I agree with you on needing to re-establish the connection with the past lives. I think there's also possibly going to be more strife between Korra's mentorship of an Earthbender both because she doesn't have much experience of being mentored by herself inside of her own head, because earth is the most stable element, whereas Korra stripped the stability out of things most often. I would expect an avatar to reflect that stability, at least a little, in the same way Aang expressed the mutability of air. But anyway, I don't think the new avatar will succeed in reconnecting with the past in the first season. I would love to see more of a 13 ghosts of Scooby Doo or something similar as he has to go reconnect with avatars of each element, and by reattaching key avatars, he pulls more of the others back into existance. This would give the team the ability to introduce new past avatars aside from the four they showed in Aang's story, and in this way see what new avatars fans are interested in. That could then lead to books and spin offs for past avatars since they may be hesitant to surpass our timeline, without having to go into every avatar ever since there are hundreds. And it could also include a little more time with Avatar Won.
    I do also question if the time is going to be "now" I think if they debuted an '80s/'90s style avatar, that would still mean Korra had lived for about 100 years, and would still give them room to grow in the future so that they could eventually unveil a Firebender in a close future of where we are now, and complete the cycle.
    As far as Aang's grandkids as mentors, I would hope that in the 60 to 100 years that pass between avatars, someone else could be a master. It seems to me that it would be more a tale of the great-grandkids, and great-great grandkids, and people who just became airbenders. The airbending community isn't so tiny any more that it has to be them. Though I think the issue of training the avatar would cause some disagreements because they've lost their traditions. It's also possible that an airbending mentor could be dispatched to travel with the avatar to recover lost knowledge, since that seems like the thing the avatar is doing.

      @@rantzntirades1104 Perhaps they'll go that route. But I think an additional issue with modern storytelling is that cellphones ruin a lot of things. They cut down on miscommunications and lack of contact, and distance, and reflection, which are keys to a lot of really good storytelling by restricting access to information. I really wouldn't recommend pushing the Avatar-verse in that direction quickly because I think you'd hit a storytelling wall more quickly as a lot of stories have to then come up with convenient reasons why people didn't just take out their cellphones and call someone. Consider Aang and the Gaang in the desert with Apa. If they had cellphones, Toph could have told them the tower was sinking and that Apa was kidnapped. Zuko could have called Aang when he switched sides, instead of having to go see him face to face. Zuko could have called Iroh when they were separated. Etc. I feel like technology can be limited in universe by simply looking back at what it’s done and how it’s been used in wars, and the avatar would then act as an authority figure to keep it in check. I’m picturing a Ghibli-esque universe. Still modern technology but the evolved cultures of the Avatar universe and spirits roaming around. Humans with technology that benefits and harmonizes with nature. Technology if it were made by people with access to seemingly unlimited clean energy and magic powers. There is so much here to think about other than the fact that it’ll be tiktok and iphones in Avatar. They have teams of people researching and brainstorming and I’m sure after Korra they don’t want to disappoint people with poor writing. Just give them the time and I’m sure it’ll be great. I’m not a fan of the avatar series going into a modern world but I am curious and a bit hopeful that it will do fine. What I really want from avatar studios is for them to rewrite Korra, make an actual series for the new avatar, and possibly tell the tale of previous avatars.
    Atla was magical and although it touched very lightly on political issues, it still was a good show that everyone loves. Korra tried to be too political although during her time it makes sense that it would turn out that way, but everything was a bit more Americanized (most obviously seen with Raava vs Vaatu.) Tlok was still an ok show but I feel the direct politics and this obsession with balance ruined the show.
    Korra never really learned what balance meant. Everything she did to further bring the world to balance was because she thought but didn’t have much education to think. Like all this unbalance that the show was saying, it was never presented. Amon “wanted” benders and nonbenders to be equal however there wasn’t any oppression shown that nonbenders faced. Korra called him out on that and even the homeless guy who saved team avatar was saying that nonbenders and benders who were like him were all equal down in the sewers. Her uncle “wanted” spirits and humans to be so called united and for people to respect humans but then all he truly wanted was to become just like the avatar. Zaheer was maybe the closest enemy to want equality but then he wanted to kill Korra (understandably why) but it just felt like he didn’t really care for what he wanted anymore once he was only aiming for her. Then Kuvira was like Ozai, it’s true she did want to unite everybody and she did grow power hungry but her entire idea from the start screamed that it wasn’t all about balance. Still Korra didn’t really learn anything because yes a nonbender was elected as president but it wasn’t even her own decision that led up to that. She opened the portals but she didn’t even know it what she was doing was right and I felt that led to unbalance when she was telling the ppl to deal with the spirits but it was affecting both the sports and ppl negatively. Then with Kuvira all she did was stop her, she didn’t learn much from her. It was progress that she did see herself in Kuvira but that’s about it. I just felt the show was done dirty and it deserves to be rewritten to make up for all of that.
    Like why couldn’t Amon have been a nonbender who’s parents were killed by a bender so he sought out the lion turtles to teach him energybending. Why couldn’t her uncle and all of season 2 be centered in the spirit world when she would really have to consider if humans and spirits should live together. Why didn’t Zaheer and the red lotus have been very distant throughout season 3 and it was Korra pursuing them instead as they went to each nation killing every person in power and not aiming for the avatar because the avatar represents equality and killing her would only be because she tried stopping them. Why couldn’t Kuvira have been someone random, maybe someone who didn’t necessarily come from the earth kingdom and was bent on finding the avatar but became upset once seeing Korra wasn’t in a good state to save the world from chaos and so she rose up to power with all good intentions until she find out that the ppl wanted Korra to be doing her job and felt as if she shouldn’t be the one to unite everyone.

      Great comments! Totally agree with how tlok could be rewritten, especially the whole unavaatu debacle. The show creators made it a point to create a dark avatar and I feel like they completely ignore the fact that just like raava is now reincarnated, vaatu is now reincarnated in the human world and a dark avatar is now possible.

      @@rightdubz That would have also been a nice thing to add in the avatarverse because imagine there being two avatars that represented light and dark. I can't wait to see what they do with the past avatear search. The new avatar will ofcourse have Korra to ask questions, but surely it would also make sense to have Korra already re connect to some old avatars in some (maybe convoluted) way. It would be weird that Korra hadn't tried to reconnect, right?
    Since the OG creators are working on the new series I'm only excited, not afraid, to see how they shape this new world. They clearly know what they're doing. 2025 is is a long way off though, in that time management can change, people can die...I think I'm better off forgetting about this for the next like 2 years and then being happily supprised.
