ATLA is my favorite show, but the ending certainly has quite a few flaws, if anything it has the most contrived moments in the entire show to make everything work
While the last four episodes wrap the series up better than most shows produced today or the last 15 years for that matter, it's not much of a comparison when those shows endings activity disrespect the entire show that built up to it
ALTAs ending suffers a bit much from "somehow syndrome" that takes away from the consistent message of "earning your outcomes" that the show has always built itself on

@@Cloudaddy220so you’re only problems with it is that they threw in a deus ex machina and the prison interaction between zuko and Ozai post comet? I would say that’s really good for a series finale.

    • @Cloudaddy220
      @Cloudaddy220 ปีที่แล้ว

@@kirklanyoshinaga8953 I don't know why you bring up the prison interaction at the end, but yes now that I've seen the ending prolly 2 dozen times I've now made it my head cannon that Zuko called put Ozai about his mother, she's actually been dead the entire time and Ozai just lied during the Day of Black Sun to manipulate Zuko one last time til the eclipse ended. That should have been Zukos moment to finally take control over himself from his father and show that his deception doesn't work on him anymore. Instead of that God awful comic explaining how Ursa was alive the whole time, lame
There is still more to be said, the fact that Katara ran down out of her safe place while watching Zuko and Azula were fighting to just needlessly put herself in harms way for no reason other than to distract Zuko, the fact that Suki should have straight up died when she fell off that war zeppelin, and how did she know to turn the fin of the ship/how did she physically do that/she actually managed to hit another ship with it/didn't harm Sokka or Toph at all when she did. Everything that happened with Space Sword before its demise. The rock that happens to be in the perfect spot to get shoved into his back, and also the fact that cannonically there's actually no way Zuko held onto Irohs sandal that whole time
Again, this has been my favorite show for more than 10 years, but in my head I still play around with ways to wrap the show up in a better way like my Zukos mom head cannon suggest. For a show like Avatar, the ending serves it's purpose, but it can also be argued its one of the weakest parts of the show when it comes to the story

Looking back. Zuko's method of fire bending was fueled by rage and aggression. He would often grunt when he used his bending. Now, look just how calm, collected, and focused he was facing Azula. The Dragon's message of energy and life along with Iroh's teaching really has turned him into a true fire bending master 🔥🔥🔥

He has control the whole fight. He learned to control by the end of season 2 but his chi paths were blocked. When the spike hits, all that happens is the block goes away and he regains the ability to use the avatar state at will since he went through the process of the 7 paths. That's why they repeat the animation. As he was fighting, he was angry about Ozai's comment on his people and had decided to end him and then changes his mind right at the end "No I'm not gonna end it this way" and goes for the Lionturtle method. Basically, he let his feelings get the better of him during the whole fight in Avatar state until he held himself, just like Katara did some episodes prior.

I love how much trust Toph has in Sokka during the airship fight... She freely accepts his help, not even being mad that he shielded her from the debris (also props to Sokka... A great leader protects those who follow them... And this, among all the other great moments of Sokka being a leader prove why he's earned that position.)
Also... My god I love how the Zuko/Azula Agni Kai has muted firebending sound effects, and a more sad musical theme... It's not triumphant because this isn't a proud moment... This is two siblings fighting to the death because of a war they were born into, and who they were moulded into being. While Azula is undeniably evil, it's important to remember she's only 14... Much of who she's become is as a result of being a victim of her father's narcissism and cruelty... Hell look at the beach episode... She has no social skills, can't relate emotionally to her peers... She thinks each of Mai,Tai Li, and Zuko's outbursts by the fire are performances... Not real emotions, but we alsi see she does want to be emotionally vulnerable... She talks about her mom thinking she's a monster with a very somber tone before her hackles get raised back immediately and she deflects with a mix of macabre humor and condescension. And then back to the finale, we see her realize after Katara chains her up, and saves Zuko... She's lost everything... And everything she's ever wanted, now Zuko has it all, her friends, her throne, the love and adoration of others... Yet she was taught he was the weaker and leas deserving... But in the end he, through trusting others and being kind (things she believes are weaknesses) he has support to cover for him when he falters, she's alone.

There are a lot of comics, some are fun one-offs while some are 3 parters which continue the main story.
They are not up to par with the show in terms of quality, but at this point, you are so invested in the characters that you wouldn't mind some slightly worse writing.
The stories themselves are especially interesting, and since it's in a completely different form (comics intead of an animated series), the change in quality isn't that obvious/jarring.

The first time I ever actually sat and watched Avatar was actually during the premier of the finale.
Specifically it was the second episode.
More specifically it was the scene with Zuko and Iroh.
That scene convinced me on the spot I had to watch the rest of the show.
Just… everything about that moment is astounding. The music is amazing, the actors are speaking with utter conviction, the entirety of their relationship caries though in their words, the way it even ends on just a little bit of a joke, proving Zuko’s affection still has that slightly sarcastic edge… I can think of very, VERY few shows that end as strongly as Avatar and none of the other contenders have a scene this powerful.

I'm glad you didn't think Aang was foolish for holding to his beliefs.
Sure it all worked out in the end but he would have been in the right even if it resulted in losing the war.
Good isn't about winning. Sometimes its about losing for the right reason.
One of my favorite parts is when Aang saw the fear in Ozai's eyes as he was about to redirect the lightning.
"I wouldn't kill him because he looked as frightened as I was.... I looked at him... and I saw myself."
If the best of us can fall then the worst of us can surely rise above.
Everyone has a dark side. Everyone is capable of great good and great evil. There is ALWAYS a choice.
The struggle against darkness is a never-ending battle and is often subtle but that's the test of who we are. Everyday we choose to either feed it or fight it.

I disagree, not everyone can change and definitely not everyone should be saved. There are people who are beyond saving. You say that good is not about winning, but good is a lot more complex than that. What you are describing is nice, but the world does not work like that. And it never will. Being good is a lot more complex than always doing the supposed right thing. Sometimes, you will have to do things that are considered morally questionable by some, if you want to protect the people around you. Like one of my favorite book characters says "You have to be realistic about these things"

    • @FireLordIroh
      @FireLordIroh 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@WaltDevil060 For the sake of the convo let's just say I agree that not everyone can change.
What people can, will or are going to do is irrelevant. Only our choices.
By your admission you claim that doing something wrong is still wrong but basically can be worth it.
To me that's a selfish point of view. The nature of evil is to do things we should not. They can make the most ultimate unwinnable scenarios.
It's not something people like to hear but the ends never justify the means. Evil or circumstances can force us into picking between 2 evils. In that situation we should abstain regardless of the consequences.
The reason I say selfish is because the selfless path requires the individual to have the strength to let go.
This is the classic clash between utilitarianism and deontological ethics.
If you think all that matters is the outcome then you can justify any number of atrocities.
I should probably add that I believe in the classic responsibility line that Spidey preaches. Which is also more clearly laid out in the Civil War film.
Peter Parker: "When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen. They happen because of you."
The thing is our responsibility in that sense never usurps our responsibility to not commit evil ourselves.
Doing the wrong thing can be effective. There's no denying that. That's why I said heroism isn't about winning.
Killing people doesn't change them but it changes us.
About your talk of the world not working like that. Even if you're right....
"Heroes don't accept the world the way it is... they fight it."

Yup Zuko's arc is amazing and I think he's the best character ever, especially regarding redemption. He starts as sort of a villain with a very understandable background and just keeps moving towards his redemption but never in a straight line. He struggles, he takes steps backwards and when it looks like he's getting there, he disappoints his beloved ones and you again. Then when he finally makes up his mind, he gets there on his own, not because he doesn't get what he wants and the plot pushes him in a different direction but opposite to that, because he gets it and realizes he never really wanted it in the first place. And then even when he does the right thing, people naturally still don't trust him but he understands it and humbles himself even more and keeps walking the right path until he earns his own honor. And even already as part of team Avatar he keeps growing until the banished prince who demanded to be treated like a king becomes the true king that serves tea with a smile. Simply perfect, no character is topping this for me.

Aang was being true to who he is by abhorring the mere thought of killing the Fire Lord. Despite numerous trusted friends and mentors telling him otherwise he would not bend. This is what called the lion-turtle to him. He was given the ability to bend a person’s energy because Aang is the only person/Avatar that could be trusted with it.
Many think Aang blocked his own chakra, and that was why he couldn’t enter the Avatar state. But at the end of season two he unlocked it just moments before Azula hit him with a lightning strike to his back. This killed Aang as well as physically blocked his chakra. Katara brought him back with the spirit water but he was still blocked from accessing the previous Avatars and the Avatar state. Colliding with the rocky protuberance realigned his chakra, enabling him access to the Avatar state.

There are so so many things I love about this episode, but one thing that I don't think I ever heard mentioned is when Sokka and Toph are about to fall. And Sokka's identity (according to him and others) has been the boomerang. We see him get it, we see him loose it, we saw it always come back. It was the one thing he was truly good at from the beginning, but in the key moment he looses it, and what saves him is a person who is most explicity there only because of Sokka. Because Sokka might have been only playing at being a leader and only good at the boomerang in the beginning, but his greatest contribution in the end is his planning and people skills

I believe it's canon tho, just not included in the show, written up at a later date to finish that cliffhanger. I don't think it was meant to be a cliffhanger, as she was banished and not executed as fire lord he obviously has the ability and resources to track her down. I always took it as "zuko went off to find his mother" and since everything in the ending was happy, that had happened.

The arms outstetched and his face up as he shoots fire from his mouth and hands is what he does when Roku says Ozai will use the comment to finish the war and when Aang goes into the avatar state he jets out five 5 jets, hands, feet and mouth, which if you remember its said the door to Roku's sanctum can only be opened by 5 fire blasts into the mechanism at once with all the sages or an avatar alone.

One thing I like about the finale: Aang wins the fight three times. First himself with the lightning redirect that he sends off at the last minute, which was a very dangerous think to attempt considering how difficult it is to properly redirect lighting (look what happened to Zuko when he tried to quickly adjust while redirecting Azula's lightning, and he'd done it multiple times before and that was Aang's first try with real lightning). Then in the Avatar State, he utterly dominates Ozai in pure strength and not only does Aang win decisively, but he's able to pull the punch once again at the last minute (again, not something easily done and something even Aang himself hadn't done yet as he had to have either someone else (Katara usually) pull him out of the Avatar state or he would calm down once the immediate threat was neutralized). Finally, he manages to defeat Ozai one more time by trapping him in stone and then spiritbending him to take away his bending.
Ozai had no chance in this fight and the only reason he's alive is that Aang is the Avatar and not anyone else. But the writing and choreography is so good that you never once feel like the fight is that one-sided.

Wow, a perfect reaction to a practically perfect finale! The animation, voice acting, writing, and music were all tremendous in this finale. The somber music especially for the Zuko/Azula fight is fantastic.
The story does continue in comics. I've read a couple of the comics: The Promise tells the tale of how Zuko & Aang address the fire nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom and, probably more interesting to you, The Search tells the tale of what happened to Zuko's mother. Both are definitely worth a read.

You hit it right in the head with your analysis on the previous Avatars' advice. None of them, except Yangchen the air nomad, ironically, explicitely told Aang to kill the fire lord, not because of a Nick restriction (Aang says kill right at the end of those conversations) but because their advice CAN be interpreted either way, later the Lion Turtle just confirms their advice and, in the fight, we see Aang taking all of their advice, being decisive (Roku) in sticking to his principles, bringing justice (Kyoshi) by taking the Fire Lord's bending and actively shaping his destiny (Kuruk) by not doing the one thing everyone told him he had to do. By being that unflinching and weathering all the "lies" about what he had to do (Lion Turtle) he was able to bend Ozai's energy.

It's also why each Avatar is distinctly different. Once a soul has learned what it can from an incarnation, it wants to learn new things so it picks a very different personality for its next life.

this entire finale is perfection and i love it so much. watching it when it originally aired was so hype. The last Agni Kai is hands down one of my favorite moments, the tragedy behind those 2 fighting, the music, its top tier. I love Sokka & Toph on the airships too. Most of all tho I will always love that Aang got to stick to who he was and find another way without having to sacrifice his personal beliefs. Azula's mental decline after The Boiling Rock is interesting as hell to watch too, seeing the mommy issues come forward full force, along with getting to see just how easily Ozai was able to manipulate her just as well as anyone else.
Comics wise, I think you want to go in order, The Promise > The Search > The Rift > Smoke & Shadow > North and South > Imbalance. There's a lot of one off comics in between, both taking place during the series and a few in between comics as well. The most recent one is Azula centric and continues her comics arc and it's genuinely a great read.

Yoooo, I just noticed Zuko had a similar scar burn on his chest after Azulas lightning, like Aangs on his back

Was just going to sit down and eat dinner, and this is the perfect thing to watch. 😆 Also I'm glad you didn't drag this out and have three or four reaction videos.

That was an amazing reaction. Thank you Bunny. I enjoyed seeing you feel so much. It hits really deep and I love to see your appreciate the show that much more. It's difficult to explain this level of writing and...everything. That's why we must never stfu about this show and make everyone watch it all the way through. I Highly recommend the comics where they talk about Zuko's mom and other things.
Korra is not my favorite, is not the same, but, honestly what COULD be? I'm down to see you reactions if you want to!
Thank you again. For letting you feel the emotions and show it to us. You're the best.
Also, you were dressed for the ocation at the end of the book of fire with the red shirt! You look beautiful

It was so much fun watching your reviews, you seem like such a lovely genuine person! Don't be sad; this show is infinitely rewatchable, so much detail and depth; they planned everything ahead. Like the lion turtle? It is depicted somewhere in the background many times. Up next, well there is the movie that can't be named, painful ( I have tried to sit trough it but rage quit every time) but amusing to see the reactions on, and it kind of reflects on how good the source material really is. Legend of Korra is not bad, and then there are the comics. And the upcoming Netflix series...Fingers crossed, it will be a tough act to pull off, but the cast actually looks very good.
