At the VERY least it's what called a "furtive gesture". However, second: Are you implying that the cop should've waited until the gun was *actually* pointed and aimed at the cop? Because, if so...     1) The woman is "saved" at 1:40 in the video;
    2) The homeowner is shot at 1:44 in the video.
    Question:
The officer presumably knew going in that this was a highly volatile situation. Why couldn't he have just stopped for a moment at the door or (probably better) have gotten behind cover next to the door to issue his commands rather than advancing inside? That might have given both participants time to consider their next move. I'm not looking for a "Because it's police policy" kind of answer, but rather a more "tactical" answer. It seems to me that reacting in that way might have saved a life.

the cop dodged the peephole, exacerbating the airman's suspicion, because he believed he might be randomly shot through the door.
the landlady called the cops because "it's gotten worse" despite the fact that she told the cop that she heard a "slap" last time she heard arguing and, for some reason, did not call cops at that point.

I have 1 question that I'm not hearing any discussion about. Where was the immediate threat once the female was outside? I know it was a juvenile that made the call, but were there any juveniles inside at the time of the shooting? The officers did not gather information from the female to assess the situation before entering the domicile. Just going by the discussion and what's on video, I'm really questioning whether the officer made the best choice entering the home at that moment. Was stepping back and attempting de-escalation at a distance viable?

    • @bradowens4592

Since the 911 call was made by someone other than the female who stepped outside, the officer had reasonable cause to enter, to protect the third person.

People think I am strange because I am a very loud advocate of the 2nd A yet I own no firearms. The reason I fight so hard for these rights is the FREEDOM to each make our own personal choices.
Dude absolutely had a right to own firearms (assuming he was not a convicted felon) and absolutely has the right to protect himself with them...from CRIMINALS.
One person nobody really speaks about here is the teenager who felt so threatened (or feared for his mom's safety) so deeply he had to call 911.
For all we know, when dude grabs the shotgun, he is wanting to get the kid for calling the cops on him. He and his wife have been nonstop so he knows she had no chance to call...and this may not be the `1st time Junior had to call.
No matter his intentions, NO WAY he mistook the uniformed cop under perfect lighting conditions, for a criminal coming at him.
The right to own firearms comes with the responsibility to be sane and prudent. I will not say the kid is better off with a parent removed from this obviously often violent aqtmosphere but.....he is.
I just hope the teen gets the therapy he now needs to deal with his inevitable guilt as well as the trauma of your parent being killed...no matter what kind of parent, we all love our parents. Zero respect for the mother allowing her child to be raised in this situation..yes I will judge her on that, been a victim of it myself.

I’m off topic on this one, and it’s a long one. John, thank you to you and all your staff for the hard work, and education. I have an interesting story for everyone. Yesterday, 5/13/24, my wife and I drove from Central Colorado to meet with a friend of hers in Kansas. It was a late afternoon trip, so we were driving back home late night into early morning on the 14th. We stopped at a truck stop in Kansas for some crappy gas station food around 11:00 pm because all the nearby restaurants were closed. While paying for our food and drinks, another couple had arrived and were in line behind us. I live by the American Express motto: Don’t leave home without it!, so my hand gun is clearly visible in its holster on my hip. I also am a firm believer in educating myself at my expense, and minding my own damn business. The other gentleman clearly doesn’t believe in any of those three things, and proceeds with, “Excuse me, I have a question.” The clerk stopped ringing up our things to listen to his question, but the guy said nothing till I turned to look at why he wasn’t continuing to talk now that he had interrupted our transaction. The guy proceeded asking his question directed at me: “Are you from here (Kansas)?” I said, “No.”, and waited for a follow up question. This nosey guy’s wife quietly asked him why he was talking to me, and his response to her was that he wanted to find out why I was Open Carrying, because he doesn’t think it’s legal in Kansas, so now I’m in a situation where I’m not sure what Karen’s next move is going to be. He’s made this a lesson on the “Rules of Stupid”, and I can’t take my attention off of him, I have to know where my wife is and that she’s able to get out safely if needed, and I’m preparing myself mentally to drop my food and drink from my hands if he decides to escalate matters. The “font of knowledge” continues spewing about it being illegal for me to open carry because I’m not a resident, and it’s not legal at all in Kansas.
As I said, I educate myself, and want/need to know the laws of states we travel through because I don’t want a roommate named Bubba.
For those who don’t know about Kansas open carry:
    1. The minimum age requirement to open carry is eighteen years old.
    2. Non-residents can open carry in the state because the state has a permitless policy.
    3. Right To Carry Reciprocity and Recognition is Outright Recognition

A good attorney will prove that the cop has been waiting for a chance to murder someone. There is no way that SOP is to charge into a private residence without backup when there is no immediate threat. The woman left the house and was not in danger. That shotgun never was pointed in the direction of the officer. The cop also had no reason to enter the home, especially without announcing.
I’m not anti-cop by any means, but this isn’t a clean shoot. He put 8 on that guy, after the guy told him to not enter the house, and again, that muzzle never left vertical.
